    Rabid Gremlin has a blog post up entitled: Did Microsoft just kill Flash? IE 10 won’t run Flash unless your site is on a Microsoft whitelist! Apparently this is true…kind of. There are 2 versions of IE 10 that ship with WIndows 8. One is the Windows UI version (in this article, I’m going to reference this as IE10Metro) and one is the desktop version. These are entirely different apps, different codebases. IE10Metro will *not* serve up Flash content unless the website hosting the content has been whitelisted with Microsoft, as per this Microsoft document. IE10 for the desktop will serve Flash content without any issues. In a broader view, what this means is that web developers now need to consider another browser for testing their sites in – IE 10 Metro, in addition to IE 10 Desktop. D

  • NEC uPD720200 USB 3.0 not working on Ubuntu 12.04

    I've recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit on a HP Envy 15 1104tx. Most stuff appears to be working fine with the exception of the two USB3 ports (USB2 port works fine). I've read a lot of articles but so far have not been able to find a solution. I've tried adding 'pci=nomsi' to '/etc/default/grub' but this made no difference. Some articles suggest booting into Windows and upgrading the firmware on the uPD720200. Any body had any experience of this? Is there a way I can checked the firmware version of the NEC uPD720200 in Linux to see if there is an update available? I have changed some files, such as wireless.22.h, ifrename.c and iwlib.h, in wireless_tools.29/ which is located in Android4.0 root directory. Then I followed these steps: $ cd ~/Android4.0 $ su $[key](change to root) root# source build/envsetup.sh root# cd ~/Android4.0/wireless_tools.2.9/ root# mm Then I got a message telling me that: Your version is: java version "1.7.0_21". The correct version is: Java SE 1.6. Then I did as How can I uninstall my current java and install sun java 1.6 The java was installed successfully, but when i tried mm again: Your version is: java version "1.6.0_27". The correct version is: Java SE 1.6. Then I tried https://source.android.com/source/initializing.html , but it didn't work. How can I install "java SE 1.6." correctly?

  • Add the 2D Version of the New Unity Interface to Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04

    Is your computer or virtualization software unable to display the new 3D version of the Unity Interface in Ubuntu? Now you can access and enjoy the 2D version with just a little PPA magic added to your system! To add the new PPA open the Ubuntu Software Center, go to the Edit Menu, and select Software Sources. Access the Other Software Tab in the Software Sources Window and add the first of the PPAs shown below (outlined in red). The second PPA will be automatically added to your system. Once you have the new PPAs set up, go back to the Ubuntu Software Center and click on the PPA listing for Unity 2D on the left (highlighted with red in the image). Scroll down until you find the listing for “Unity interface for non-accelerated graphics cards – unity-2d” and click Install. Once that is done you are ready to go to System, Administration, and then select Login Screen in your Ubuntu Menu. Unlock the screen and select Unity 2D as the default session from the drop-down list as shown here. Log out and then back in to start enjoying that Unity 2D goodness! Here is how things will look when you click on the Ubuntu Menu Icon. Select the category that you would like to start with (such as Web) and get ready to have fun.   • iOS Game Center - Quit turn-based games for previous version of app

    I have a game on the iOS App Store that uses Game Center for turn-based multiplayer (GKTurnBasedMatch). I recently updated the app with a new game mode and I had to change the network protocol for that to happen. As a result I marked my new version as incompatible with the old one. That is, you cannot see the old games within the new app and you cannot initiate a game with someone with the old version of the app. This works as expected. However: The old games remain active after updating. There seems to be no way to quit them. What is worse is that they still count to the maximum number of games you can start. I have been contacted by players that can only start 1-3 games without hitting the roof. Have anyone experienced this before? Is there any way to quit the games? Thanks in advance

    Picked this up from a recent Dublin Google Technology User Group meeting: Android App Mistakes: Avoiding the Anti-Patterns by Mark Murphy, CommonsWare Interesting approach of "anti-patterns" aimed at mobile developers (in this case Android), looking at the best way to use code and what's in the SDK while combining it with UX guidance (the premise being the developer does the lot). Interestingly, the idea came through that developers need to stop trying to make one O/S behave like another--on UX grounds. Also, pretty clear that a web-based paradigm is being promoting for Android (translators tell me that translating an Android app reminded them of translating web pages too). Haven't see the "anti"-approach before, developer cookbooks and design patterns sure. Check out the slideshare presentation.

    My friend has a Sony Ericsson Xperia (most probably X8) handset which is an Android based smartphone. He is not able to send files through bluetooth but able to receive. I don't exactly remember the version of Android which he is currently having. He has tried to download and install the required update using the same phone (he has internet connected) from http://www.sonyericsson.com but not able to install it. So, he asked me to help him. Which version of Android do you think he has? Does it seem like he does not have Android 2.1 installed. It is written here (click on Xperia X8) that If your phone already has Android 2.1, you can use your mobile network* or a WiFi connection to download the software. Is it possible that he does not have updated Android and so not able to download? If so, does he need to upgrade to Android 2.1 first? Should it be done by connecting it to a PC?

    Apt is seemingly unable to do anything useful for me, repeatedly giving messages of this form: dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of linux-server: linux-server depends on linux-image-server (= 3.2.0.37.44); however: Version of linux-image-server on system is 3.2.0.37.45. linux-server depends on linux-headers-server (= 3.2.0.37.44); however: Version of linux-headers-server on system is 3.2.0.37.45. dpkg: error processing linux-server (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured This is basically the same problem as I cannot install any package (linux-image-server, linux-server dependencies errors) which got closed Duplicate to an answer that is totally useless for this situation. None of the advice in that very generic answer about dependencies helps. Explicitly: sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get autoclean sudo apt-get update all have no not effect. While sudo apt-get -f install sudo dpkg --configure -a sudo apt-get -u dist-upgrade sudo apt-get -o Debug::pkgProblemResolver=yes dist-upgrade all give some form of the error message above.

  • How to set default Java version?

    I have followed all the instructions stated at this question, but am encountering some problems with the last part of it. I actually have version 6.22 of java and would like to update to version 6.30. So after moving the extracted directory java-6-oracle into /usr/lib/jvm I do not know what to do, since the script that is pointed out in the answer above updates from java 5 to java 6.   • Tool to search for packages whose installed version does not match any version from a repository?

    I just upgraded from Lucid to Maverick, and as expected, all my PPAs were disabled. I have re-enabled most of the ones that I want, but I would like to get a list of all packages that I installed from PPAs that I no longer have enabled. I feel that the best way to do this would be to search for all packages where the currently installed version of that package does not match any version from a currently-enabled repository. Is there an easy way to search for such packages. Command-line solutions welcome.

    I am building up a rails application that I cloned from my friend. I am using Ubuntu 13.10, rails 3.2.14. I am using a postgresql database and when I try to run rake db:migrate it gives me some error like this: PG::UndefinedObject: ERROR: type "json" does not exist LINE 1: ALTER TABLE "filters" ADD COLUMN "search_string" json I installed pg version :- 9.3.1 but my friend is working on 9.2.4 I don't know why this error is occurring, I tried several times to downgrade using purge or remove commands to remove 9.3.1 all goes well but when I check psql --version it again shows me 9.3.1 . Any solution ???
