• How to setup email server in ubuntu 12.04LTS(debian 7 wheezy/sid) running on linode vps

  I am working on email server, since i tried several times to create email server on ubuntu12.04LTS with postfix + dovecote + postfixadmin + courier + clamav + spamassassin. But everytime i install these packages i face new problems, like mails send to localhost users and found in users maildir. But I can't determine how to configure/setup for send an email to external smtp like gmail, yahoo. The most worst thing i can't determine how to use sasl, because i am not using SSL so it is not worthy for my domain.   Do you know a Windows 7 software (not an online service) than can create an RSS feed for any webpage ? Here is what I am looking for : I manually select what is a title, what is a link and if needed what is the content that I would like to keep (article content + their related images if they exist). The software create a RSS feed from that. Then it monitors the feed every x hours (or x days at a specified time). If updates are found then send the results to my email address. (It is a little like a combination of the Firefox addon: Autopager (WYSIWYG selection which use xpath) and WebSite-Watcher (RSS software monitoring).

  Hello, I'm a windows developer(Win32api) moving from Windows to Linux. While installing linux there are lot of things to know about X11, X Window System, X Server, Xorg, Xfree86 and what not. How come we aren't aware of such things in windows? Wiki article on these scares me. Can any one explain these things? How they work? Why is it so complicated in linux & not in windows? Any good references are also appreciated. PS: I love to know internals, don't hesitate to go into depth.

  According to this article http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/puppet_internals.html There are four phases when puppet agent got a catalog from master. resource generation = relationships = evaluation = reporting Reporting As the transaction progresses, it collects logs and metrics on what it does. At the end of evaluation, it turns this information into a report, which it sends to the server (if requested). And at the end of evaluation puppet agent would generate a report and sent the report to the master. Is there a way to get real-time status of evaluation phase and post them to a remote logcollector? Glad for any suggestions.

• Gnome+NX clipboard behavior; auto-copy on select?

  I am having issues with the Gnome(/Linux/Debian+Ubuntu) clipboard when connected remotely; it's default behavior appears to be to automatically add text to a clipboard buffer when that text is selected. This is not usually a problem, until I need to log into one of these systems remotely (w/ GUI), and attempt to use a shared clipboard. If I 'copy' text on the local machine (destined to replace some text on the remote machine), that copy buffer is overwritten as soon as I select the text on the remote machine to be replaced. Is there some way around this? It sort of drives me nuts. Thanks! UPDATE: This is really an NX server issue; X11 supports multiple clipboards ("selections": clipboard, primary. secondary; see this excellent article) that behave differently, and it appears that my problem is related to how NX server translates this over to the host machine.

  I am trying to use SQL Server Management Studio 2008's Activity Monitor with an SQL Server 2000 instance to diagnose some query performance issues. I can connect SMSS 2008 to the db fine, and use it to browse objects and run queries. But when I press the Activity Monitor button, it pops up an error message saying: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio This operation does not support connections to Microsoft SQL Server Personal Edition version 8.00.818. This MSDN article implies that Activity Monitor works with SQL Server 2000. Is it the fact that it's Personal Edition that's preventing it from working? The error message isn't clear whether it's the edition or version that's the problem.

  I've found a few posts on this site, however my situation is different. I have a new Dell server with no OS installed. I would like to install Windows 2008 Web Edition. I have a few USB ports and Ethernet. No CD or DVD drives. Is this article the best & only way to proceed? Installing Windows 2008 via USB thumbdrive or should I just get a external hardrive and hook it up to a usb. Once the OS is installed I'll never need a DVD drive again - so that's idea is a waste of money.

• Method to control multiple sites using same cookie?

  Is it possible for two different web pages to use the same cookie? For example, some news sites now have buttons on the bottom, where if you are logged into facebook, you can just click the button to "like" the article. Is this a case of a 3rd party website using facebook's cookie to know which account you are, and if so, is there a way I can control it? I'm not sure how the new "like" system works, so maybe the button part isn't actually on the news site, but hosted on facebooks servers or something, so it's really facebook itself accessing its own cookie. If that's the case, is there a way I can choose when a site accesses its own cookie? Thanks for any help!

• How does Windows 7 determine that a system was not shut doen correctly (Kernel-Pwer Event ID 41)

  I have a strange situation that Windows 7 thinks it was not shut down correctly, and gives me a warning in the system event log like this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504/de What the KB-article does not tell is how Windows actually determines that situation. Does it parse its own system event log after reboot? Or where does it get that information from? I am currently investigating an issue where I believe the system fails to write the system event log correctly (it stops having entries, although other logs like the application event log still have entries), and after a reboot, Windows thinks it has not been shut doen correctly. Does anybody have any experience with this? ANd can you confrim that Windows determines the previous correct system shutdown by parsing its own system event log on startup?

I want to do backups through EBS Snapshots as explained in the article above Question: Mongodb says - that I need to mongo shelldb.runCommand({fsync:1,lock:1}); -- this will lock the db for writing ....run snapshot creation... mongo shell db.$cmd.sys.unlock.findOne(); -- this will unlock the db for writing so do I need to unlock the DB for writing after I issued the comand ec2-create-snapshot or after it's finished and the actual snapshot is created thanks, Dmitry

• Hyperlinks in Windows Update window not working?!

  The actual links in the Windows Update window to open the relevant knowledge base article have stopped working. They still look like links, but they just don't do anything anymore?! This started happening (or not happening!) during the last Windows Update (around 2010-10-23). At the time I believe the first link worked OK and all subsequent links did not!? In the recent Windows Update (today) no links work. I can copy and paste the text of the link into the browser and OK. Web-like links from all other applications work OK. Dec 2010 - Windows Update links still do not work. I guess this must be something specific to my machine as I've not seen it reported anywhere else?!

• How do I know if my disks are being hit with too much IO reads or writes or both?

  Hi All, So I know a bit about disk I/O and bottlenecks relating to this especially when relating to databases. But how do I really know what the max IO numbers will be for my disks? What metric might be available to me for working out roughly (but needs to be a good approximation) of how much capacity (if you will) have I got left available in I/O. I've seen it before where things are bubbling along nicely and then all of a sudden, everything screams to a halt, and it ends up being an IO bound problem. Is there a better way to predict when IO is reaching its limits? This article was interesting but not giving the answer I desire. • Unable to SSH into ESXi 4.1 host - "Access Denied"

  I am unable to SSH into an existing ESXi server. I have a user which is in the "root" and "users" group and is able to connect via vSphere. However after enabling "Remote support (SSH)", attempting to connect by putty and entering my username/password when prompted I am presented with an "Access Denied" message. I have run through the options presented at this KB article to no avail. I have taken down the firewall on the machine (it is remote) temporarily to check if this helped - no change. The username/password are definitely correct and I can obviously get connectivity if I am presented with the username/password prompt. I am at a bit of a loss what else I can try. Thanks all

  In Facebook, some links to articles or videos appear to be genuine links, but in fact there are leading to some "content viewing" Facebook apps, like "Dailymotion", "The Guardian", or "Yahoo!". Those apps usually require access to my email address, basic info, birthday, location, plus right to post on my behalf. Some even say in small letters "To use this app, you will be upgraded to Facebook Timeline": Workaround: Copy the name of the article/video Paste it into Google within quotes First result is the original unencumbered content. I don't want to install Facebook spyapps that provide zero value, so I do this every time. QUESTION:Is there a Greasemonkey script or similar, that would perform these 3 steps for me? I am using Chrome on Linux. I hesitated to post this question on WebApps, but over there they are clear that such questions should be posted on SuperUser.

Since Hyper-V is a Type-0 hipervisor, may I know does this bring the same benefit if I have Ubuntu Linux install as a virtual guess OS? Meaning, if I turning the Ubuntu on (the guess OS), does the Ubuntu still able to access the hardware information like nVidia display card or processor information? I'm just curious to know can this be done?

The latest php version is indeed installed in /usr/local/bin The problem is that my $PATH variable is the following (doing an echo $PATH reveals it) : /usr/local/mysql/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/X11/bin ...so the old version of php (that comes with mountain lion) always run first Any ideas on how to solve this?   I have WXP-64 running on a VM and, for testing and performance reasons, I would like to occasionally change the allocations for it. Changes might include: Number of CPU cores, Amount of RAM Add/remove network adapters. But I'm concerned that XP will demand re-activation and that I might eventually have licensing issues if I do this. So, can anyone tell me: What kind of changes trigger re-activation in XP? Is there limits or caveat with regard to re-activation? I've perused this question and the article it references, but wanted more recent and verified info. (FWIW, I'm not trying to cheat: the OS copy was purchased explicitly for the VM.)

I expected to be able to UNC into my shares; I also expected to be able to go to "Start Computer" and Click "Network" on the left side, and then see all of the devices on my home network (while the VPN was connected). Am I missing something obvious? How do I make this happen?

• Code-First Database Creation During TFS 2010 CI Build

  I would like to automate code-first database generation during the automated CI build of a web project in Team Foundation Server 2010. When run locally the tests create a code-first database specified by the connection string in the app.config of the tests project. How do I configure the TFS Build Configuration to mimic this behaviour on the TFS build server? Edit The problem, it turns out, was that the TFS build server was successfully running the test which was using the default connection string in the app.config which pointed to the local SQL Server, not where I expected it. The solution was to use SlowCheetah on the TFS server as a means to transform the App.config file using the QA transform as per this blog article.

• Remote Assist Windows 2008 R2 Session

  As mentioned in this kb article, it is not possible to shadow a session with multiple monitors enabled. It does mention that "Remote Assistance supports multiple monitors, and is the presently recommended solution if you need this functionality." My question is, is it possible (and if so, how) to remote assist a terminal services session. We have a few Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Servers running with about 10 or so users that use 2 monitors. It would be ideal to be able to remote into their session but have yet to find a viable solution. Thank you.

• an issue with VMWare Workstation 10 and three monitors

  I'm having a bit of a problem with using three monitors with VMWare Workstation 10. When only two monitors are enabled in the system I have an option to "Cycle Multiple Monitors", available from the View menu (in full screen). When I enable the third monitor that option is no longer in the menu and I can only use one monitor at a time. I've found this article and a "Choose a Monitor Layout" button is mentioned there but I'm unable to see it anywhere. I'm using Windows 8.1 as the host and Ubuntu 14.04 as the guest. The graphics card is AMD Radeon R9 290x with latest beta drivers

• setreg.exe for Windows 7

  I want to use setreg.exe (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa387700(VS.85).aspx) to disable the certificate revocation check. However, it's based on an older version of .NET than what I have. Microsoft says it's shipped with the older .net SDK, and when I download that, try to install, it says something like 'can't install SDK without .net 1.1'. In the article linked it says for newer versions I should use SignTool, but SignTool does not appear to have the function I need . Is it possible to either - a) find a tool that can perform the function I need that doesn't need me to install the older .NET b) get setreg.exe without downloading the SDK or do I need to install the older .NET on my machine? And if the latter is the case, what do I need to do to install an older .NET? Will it overwrite my current .NET? Thanks,

Also, most address bars or search fields feature this (like the tag input below the posting form). I would like the same for a few, often-occuring words in business correspondance.
