• Unit testing methods decorated with custom attributes

  I am trying to retrofit unit tests on to some existing code base. Both the class and method I want to unit test is decorated with custom attributes. These attributes are fairly sophisticated and I dont want them to run as part of the unit test. The only solution I have come up with is to compile the attribute out when I want to unit test. I dont really like this solution and would prefer to either replace it with a mocked attribute at runtime or prevent the attribute from running in a more elegant way. How do you unit test code that has class and method attributes that you dont want to run as part of a unit test? Thanks in advance.

• DataAnnotations Automatic Handling of int is Causing a Roadblock

  Summary: DataAnnotation's automatic handling of an "int?" is making me rethink using them at all. Maybe I'm missing something and an easy fix but I can't get DataAnnotations to cooperate. I have a public property with my own custom validation attribute: [MustBeNumeric(ErrorMessage = "Must be a number")] public int? Weight { get; set; } The point of the custom validation attribute is do a quick check to see if the input is numeric and display an appropriate error message. The problem is that when DataAnnotations tries to bind a string to the int? is automatically doesn't validate and displays a "The value 'asdf' is not valid for Weight." For the life of me I can't get DataAnnotations to stop handling that so I can take care of it in my custom attribute. This seems like it would be a popular scenario (to validate that the input in numeric) and I'm guessing there's an easy solution but I didn't find it anywhere.

• Problem with Richfaces running with NGinx proxy

  Hi, I got a problem with my Richfaces application. I am using it with JSF and GlassFish v.2 on my localhost and combination od dataTable and dataScroller works fine. While moving the app to the VPS running Tomcat but proxied by Nginx server, everything crashes. Exactly the scroller is working, but the dataTable view is not refreshed! I looked at responses with Firebug and figured out, that even on VPS the response contains 2nd page of the dataTable, but it is not shown on the screen. I tried everything - changing page attribute of dataScroller (it was taken from session bean, I changed that to request bean). I also removed page attribute from dataScroller - did not help either. Finally I added my table to reRender attribute of dataScroller - still whichever page I choose I am seeing only the first one. Does anyone even heard about such problem? I am going crazy with this. I want to combine both of these in the FileHelpers record class, and know there is a custom FieldConverter attribute. With this attribute, you provide a custom function to handle your field data and implement StringToField and FieldToString. My question is: can I pass other fields (already read) to this customer FieldConverter too, so I can combine Date and Time together. FieldConverter has an implementation that allows you to refer to both a custom processing class AND 'other strings' or even an array of object.   I have a list of Filemaker database names Each DB name has a list of field/attribute pairs associated with it I have a windows form application in C# 4.0 (vs2010) that wants to use the above data I would like to maintain the list either in the Visual Studio settings page, or in one of the standard visual studio settings files using the standard .NET settings calls I would like to avoid writing my own custom settings, xml, xds (to avoid the "Could not find schema information for the element/attribute " errors) I just have a slightly complicated INI file! I don't want to complicate my life! Do any easy solutions exist? Unless someone has a brighter idea, I am simply going to write string settings with names that indicate it's a FM DB (e.g. "fmdbAddresses"), and values that concat my field/attribute pairs (e.g. "gUserResult=skipField|gAddressID=convertToInt|gAddressID=uniqueIx")
