DNS issue for internal website routing internet connection from remote location

I have an issue that I could use some help with. Our company has a main location and a remote location. Previously, the remote location was connected to the main location through an internet connection VPN tunnel. The connection was pitifully slow at 1.5Mbps, so we upgraded it with a 75Mbps direct link. That meant the remote location lost it's internet access, so we routed their access through the main office internet connection. Everything works perfect except for one thing. The website we host is not accessible from the remote location unless the IP address is used. If I do NSLOOKUP on our website address from a machine connected to the main location network, it resolves correctly to the inside IP address. However, if I do the same from a remote location machine, it resolves to the website's outside IP address. Our internal DNS server(s) have a pointer and CNAME records set up, and everything was working perfectly before the connection was upgraded. In addition, the remote location has a domain controller, DNS server and DHCP server to service these requests at the remote location and prevent these requests from getting routed back and forth over the link. So I think was it happening is that for some reason the DNS server at the remote location is not resolving our website name correctly and passing the requests on to the routers, which then push the request out to the internet DNS system. That resolves the name to our external IP. This is purely a DNS issue, everything else works just fine. I am just stumped on this one. Any ideas on how to fix this? Edit: I forgot to mention that at the remote side of the link is a Cisco ASA-5505 and at the main office there is a Cisco ASA-5510. The link is connected between these 2 devices and the routing is handled in the 5510. Thanks, Michael

Option1 would make the constructor of ConsumerB really long. Also UsingOption1 would get long too. Option2 would have way more if statements than I feel comfortable with. Is there a viable Option3? If it helps, ClassA and ClassB have all the same methods, they're just implemented differently. Thanks for slogging through my code!

Why does the same Getopt::Long code work differently in different programs?

The following code works in one script yet in another only works if a specify the -- end of options flag before specifying an option: my $opt; GetOptions( 'help|h' => sub { usage("you want help?? hahaha, hopefully you're not serious!!"); }, 'file|f=s' => \$opt->{FILE}, 'report|r' => \$opt->{REPORT}, ) or usage("Bad Options"); In other words, the same code words in good.pl and bad.pl like so: good.pl -f bad.pl -- -f If I try bad.pl -f I get unknown option:f. Anyone have any clue as to what can cause this behavior? Thanks in advance! I've solved this..... and btw it's a VERY clear question (so why the downvotes)? I'll state it again: What would cause the identical GetOptions block to work in these 2 ways: "good.pl -f" "bad.pl -- -f" see how clear? Maybe you guys should think about it as if it were a TEST!

Why Ubuntu could treat hosts file so strange?

I have almost fresh Ubuntu desktop box. OS was installed two weeks ago and updated from karmic repositories. Last week I had no problems with DNS. But this week something had changed. I'm not sure what and when, and not sure whether I changed any configs. So now I have some really weird situation. According to logs name resolving should work normally. /etc/hosts 127.0.0.1 localhost test 127.0.1.1 desktop /etc/host.conf order hosts,bind multi on /etc/resolv.conf # Generated by NetworkManager search search servers obtained via DHCP nameserver 192.168.0.3 /etc/nsswitch.conf passwd: compat group: compat shadow: compat hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 networks: files protocols: db files services: db files ethers: db files rpc: db files netgroup: nis But if fact it is not. user@test ~ping test PING localhost (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data. [skip] Pinging is ok. user@test ~host test test.myviacube.com has address xx.xxx.161.201 But pure I suspect that NetworkManager might cause this misbehavior, but don't know where to start to check it. Any thoughts, suggestions?

Cacti is ignoring hash marks in interface aliases

I'm attempting to set up Cacti to monitor a router's interfaces, and I'm having trouble getting the graph templates to show the information that I'd like. Our interface configuration looks like this: interface GigabitEthernet3/6 description WalljackNumber # Server info no ip address no shutdown switchport switchport access vlan 116 switchport mode access ip dhcp snooping trust spanning-tree portfast The "Server Info" string is really just the machine name, and a short relevant description, such as "PolarSprings vmnic2". The important part appears to be that it follows the hashmark. When I run snmpwalk, I get the proper output: IF-MIB::ifAlias.230 = STRING: WalljackNumber # Server info But in Cacti, when I go into the graph templates and set the title to this: |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifName| (|query_ifAlias|) All that shows up in the graph is: switchname - Traffic - Gi3/6 (WalljackNumber #) Which strikes me as a little weird. What I suppose MAY be happening is that somewhere in the cacti stream, it's interpreting # as being a comment and stripping everything after, but I'm not sure. I was hoping someone could tell me that this was a known documented behavior, or that I could change it in a setting that I wasn't aware of. The alternative answer is to change the delimiter from # to something else, but I've got over a thousand lit switchports on an old college infrastructure, and I'm not sure what else might be relying on them.

BITS, TakeOwnership, and Kerberos / Windows Integrated Authentication

We're using BITS to upload files from machines in our retail locations to our servers. BITS will stop transferring a file if the user who owns the BITS job logs off. Therefore, we're using a Windows Service running as LocalSystem to submit the jobs to BITS and be the job owner. This allows transfers to continue 24/7. However, it raises a question about authentication. We want the BITS server extensions in IIS to use Kerberos to authenticate the client machine. As far as I can tell, that leaves us with only 2 options, both of which are not ideal: Either we create an "ImageUploader" account and store its username/password in a config file that the Windows Service uses as credentials for the BITS job, or we ask the logged on user who creates the BITS job for his password, and then use his credentials for the BITS job. I guess the third option is not to use Kerberos, and maybe go with Basic Auth plus SSL. I'm sure I'm wrong and there's a better option. Is there? Thanks in advance.

Which is better Java programming practice for looping up to an int value: a converted for-each loop

Hi folks, Given the need to loop up to an arbitrary int value, is it better programming practice to convert the value into an array and for-each the array, or just use a traditional for loop? FYI, I am calculating the number of 5 and 6 results ("hits") in multiple throws of 6-sided dice. My arbitrary int value is the dicePool which represents the number of multiple throws. As I understand it, there are two options: Convert the dicePool into an array and for-each the array: public int calcHits(int dicePool) { int[] dp = new int[dicePool]; for (Integer a : dp) { // call throwDice method } } Use a traditional for loop. public int calcHits(int dicePool) { for (int i = 0; i < dicePool; i++) { // call throwDice method } } I apologise for the poor presentation of the code above (for some reason the code button on the Ask Question page is not doing what it should). My view is that option 1 is clumsy code and involves unnecessary creation of an array, even though the for-each loop is more efficient than the traditional for loop in Option 2. How to give the menus associated with dojo's dijit.ComboBox different css from those of dijit.Menu

When you use a dijit.ComboBox, the type ahead suggestions get implemented as a dijit.Menu. I've got a design which calls for the matched portion of the suggestion rows to be normal, and the unmatched portion to be bold. The structure that dojo creates is like this: <ul class="dijitReset dijitMenu"> <li role="option" class="dijitReset dijitMenuItem"> <span class="dijitComboBoxHighlightMatch">Ch</span>oice One </li> <li role="option" class="dijitReset dijitMenuItem"> <span class="dijitComboBoxHighlightMatch">Ch</span>oice Two </li> </ul> So I can target the matched part, but not the unmatched part. So my css needs to be something like: .dijitMenuItem { font-weight: bold; } .dijitMenuItem .dijitComboBoxHighlightMatch { font-weight: normal; } The problem is, if I do that, all menus will be bolded, and I don't want that. Just doing something like this: <select dojoType="dijit.form.ComboBox" class="foobar">[options]</select> puts the foobar class in the ComboBox, but the menu is an independent node not under that hierarchy. What's the easiest way to add a css class around the popup menu that the ComboBox generates?

Rate limiting a ruby file stream

I am working on a project which involves uploading flash video files to a S3 bucket from a number of geographically distributed nodes. The video files are about 2-3mb each, and we are only sending one file (per node) every ten minutes, however the bandwidth we consume needs to be rate limited to ~20k/s, as these nodes are delivering streaming media to a CDN, and due to the locations we are only able to get 512k max upload. I have been looking into the ASW-S3 gem and while it doesn't offer any kind of rate limiting I am aware that you can pass in a IO Stream. Given this I am wondering if it might be possible to create a rate-limited stream which overrides the read method, adds in the rate limiting logic (e.g. in its simplest form a call to sleep between reads) and then call out to the super of the overridden method. Another option I considered is hacking the code for Net::HTTP and putting the rate limiting into the send_request_with_body_stream method which is using a while loop, but I'm not entirely sure which would be the best option. I have attempted at extending the IO class, however that didn't work at all, simply inheriting from the class with class ThrottledIO < IO didn't do anything. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Updating Multiple Drop-Down Lists in AjaxTags

I'm using AjaxTags as a defined set of JSP tags to facilitate AJAX programming, saving me from some heavy lifting. The project is in trial mode, so I may not adopt the technology and write my own solution. Here's what I'm running into (code abbreviated) I have a drop-down list that defines an item that populates numerous other drop-down lists. <form> ... <select id="item1" name="item1"> <c:forEach items="${list1}" var="item"> <option value="${item}">${item}</option> </c:forEach> </select> <select id="item2" name="items2"></select> <select id="item3" name="items3"></select> ... </form> <ajax:select source="item1" target="item2" baseUrl="${pageContext.request.contextPath}/doAction.view" parameters="action1 = {item}" /> <ajax:select source="item1" target="item3" baseUrl="${pageContext.request.contextPath}/doAction.view" parameters="action2 = {item}" /> The code above works with my back-end, initiating a call to a servlet class that is listening for calls, parses the parameter and takes action based upon the name of the parameter passed. The problem comes from adding the second ajax:select tag above. An action in drop-down "item 1" only causes "item 3" to be populated with new values. What I want is for an action in "item 1" to populate "item 2" and "item 3" (and 4, 5, 6...). Has anyone else used AjaxTags (ajaxtags.sourceforge.net) and solved a similar solution? Network problems with Ubuntu on VMware

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 inside VMware Player running under Windows Vista and I can't connect to the internet or the host computer from the Ubuntu. I have set all the VMware services to “manual” (like VMware DHCP Service), but starting them manually doesn't help. In VMware, the network seems to work (there is a green dot beside the network icon) and I have tried both Bridged and NAT settings. ifconfig doesn't show the eth1 interface, unless I give it as a parameter (or use -a). I think this means that Ubuntu thinks that the network isn't connected at all. Intel NIC X540-T1 non-functional in Ubuntu Server 12.04

I have installed three Intel X540-T1's in servers running Ubuntu Server 12.04, but all are non-functional, no link lights, no packets sent or received, and no connection on ip4 or ip6 whether set up as dhcp or static. Also, dmesg doesn't detect cable connection or disconnection. I updated the default ixgbe driver to Intel's latest version (3.11.33) with no change. The ethernet controller is being reported as X540-AT2 (which might be a problem that I can't figure out how to fix), but the subsystem is X540-T1 so I believe that might be intended. Picture on the above demonstrates one of my possible composite item. If you look on the code above you will see that I print "Test" when context menu event occurs. When I right click on the line symbol I see that "Test" message is printed. But when I right click on the signal symbol "Test" is not printed and I want it to be printed. My second question what cause this behaviour. How do I overcome this.

Perf4J Graph Output from Log File

I currently have a long running process that I am trying to analyze with Perf4J. I currently have it writing results in CSV format to its own log file using the AsyncCoalescingStatisticsAppender and a StatisticsCsvLayout on the file appender. My question is; when I try and use the --graph option from the command line (using the perf4j jar) it isn't populating the data points- it isn't populating anything. Are my appenders set incorrectly? Office 2003 interop problems, interface, method not found.

This problem is making me crazy. Actually I have multiple problems. First one: Why on earth are is there a _Worksheet and a Worksheetinterface in the Excel interop. They both look the same, except for some attributes on the methods. It's confusing! Second of all: my job today is making a VB.NET file more strict, by settings Option Strict On and Option Explicit On While it works for most files, I'm bumping into a problem. Here's a little code piece: Private _pivotTable As Excel.PivotTable With _pivotTable pvf = .AddDataField(pvc) End With PivotTable.AddDataField is defined on the MSDN page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.office.interop.excel.pivottable.adddatafield(office.11).aspx When I check my local Interop dll w/ Reflector that method is NOT there. When I run the application, and step through it, the method just works. When I try to step INTO the method, I get an LateBound Exception. WTF? So the question is: why are the interfaces defined more than once (twice sometimes?). 2nd question. AddDataField trouble

Dropdown in PHP

Hi, I am using PHP 5.2 on SUN OS server. In IE the dropdown width is limited to the size i.e 100px. So only the first 15-16 characters of the account name are displayed all the time. However in chrome or firefox, even if only 15-16 characters are displayed initially, when the drop down arrow is clicked upon, it show the entire name (however long it may be). This does not happen with IE. So if the account name is, lets say, "1223456789abcdefghijkl" then: For IE: shows only "123456789" all the time Ffor chrome or firefox: shows "123456789" and when it is dropped down it show the full name as "123456789abcdefghijkl". stop propagarion from draggable div to selectable table

If I have a table which has selectable cells $("#selectTable").selectable({ filter: ">*>tr>td"}); and one of the cells contains a draggable div $(".dragMe").draggable({}); HTML like so: <table id="selectTable"> <tr> <td> 1 </td> <td> 2 </td> <td> 3 </td> <td> <div class="dragMe">drag me</div> </td> </tr> </table> How do I stop the cell containing the div from being selectable? I presume the div will intercept the click event before the table cell, but my attempts at using event.stopPropagation on the draggable element have led me nowhere so far... Any suggestions or tips for using draggable inside a selectable parent would be most appreciated! EDIT: It seems that adding the div element to the cancel option for the selectable almost works - $("#selectTable").selectable({ filter: ">*>tr>td", cancel: ':input,option,div'}); this prevents the div from being selected when you click on it, but not when you drag+select it along with surrounding elements. Dragging a copy of all selected elements from a select box--possible?

I have a picklist web interface: a pair of select elements with a pair of buttons (a left-pointing arrow and a right-pointing arrow) between them. Users can move items between the two columns by, eg, selecting one of options in the left column and clicking on the right-pointing arrow. Now I have an enhancement request: someone wants to be able to drag-and-drop items between the two columns instead of clicking a button. The problem with my initial two-select-box setup is that as soon as I click one of the highlighted options to initiate a drag, all of the other selected options are deselected. Using jQuery, I've attached mousedown event handlers to both the select boxes and each individual option that just call preventDefault() on the event object, but this isn't sufficient. On Firefox 3 the clicked-on option loses focus immediately, but all other options are still deseleted, and on IE6 (which I regrettably still have to support) it makes no difference at all. So I thought I could maybe create a reasonable facsimile of a select box using list elements or divs or something. I can create something reasonable-looking that works on Firefox, but on IE6, if I shift-click on an element of my pseudo-select object (in order to select a range of options), IE selects all of the text between where I click and the last place I clicked. Again, I've attached preventDefault-ing mousedown, mouseup, and click handlers to all of the elements involved, but it doesn't help. I've even tried overlaying transparent divs over both my original select boxes and my pseudo-select objects, thinking to intercept mouse clicks and manage the selections manually, but I can't make it work on IE. If I use a select box, I can't prevent clicks from changing the selection, and if I use text that just looks like a select element, I can't prevent it from selecting a range of text on a shift-click. Is there some general solution, or am I just out of luck?

filter / directing URLs coming onto a network

Hi all, I an not sure if this is possible or not but what i would like to do is as follows: I have one IP address (dynamic using zoneedit.com to keep it upto date). I have one webserver running my main site which is an Ubuntu machine running Apache. I also have a windows 2008 server running another site. Just to confuse things I also run part of my Apache site on the windows server, currently using proxypassreverse to get the information from it. So it looks something like this: IP 1.2.3.4 maps to mydomain.com as well as myotherdomain.com All requests that come into port 80 are forwarded to the Apache box and I use Virtualhost settings to proxy the windows sites where needed. so mydomain.com is an Apache site mydomain.com/mywindowssection is the Apache server using proxypassreverse to get part of the site from the Windows server myotherdomain.com uses Apache and proxypassreverse to get the whole site. What I would like to be able to do is forward all http requests that come into my network to one machine that figures out who should be serving that content. so: mydomain.com would go to the Apache machine myotherdomain.com would go the windows machine. I am just in the process of setting up an Astaro gateway (never done this before so taking a while to configure) as my firewall, dns, dhcp etc, don't know if this can handle it. I have the capacity to run a VM on the network if a seperate box would be needed for this process as well. Thanks for any and all feedback. Jon

How do I setup routing for 2 companies with different Internet connections on the same LAN?

Here's the setup: 2 companies (A & B) share office space and a LAN. A 2nd ISP is brought in and company A wants it's own Internet connection (ISP A) and company B wants it's own Internet connection (ISP B). VLANs are deployed internally to separate the 2 company's networks (company A: VLAN 1, company B: VLAN 2, shared VOIP: VLAN 3). With separate VLANs it's simple enough to use separate DHCP servers (or separate scopes on the same server) to assign the default gateway to each company's gateway for their Internet connection. Static routes can be created on each gateway to point traffic destined for the other company's VLAN or the voice VLAN so that all nodes are reachable as expected. However, I think this is a form of asymmetrical routing, right? (The path from node A1 to node B1 is not the same as the path back from node B1 to node A1). Can I setup policy-based routing to correct this? In that case, can I assign the same default gateway to every device on all VLANs and create a routing policy on a L3 switch to look at the source address and forward traffic to the appropriate next hop? In that case, I want the routing logic to go like this: If the destination address is known, forward the traffic (traffic destined for a different VLAN). If the destination address is unknown, forward the traffic to ISP A's gateway if the source address is on VLAN A; or forward the traffic to ISP B's gateway if the source address is VLAN B. Am I thinking about this problem in the correct way? Is there another way to solve this problem that I am overlooking?

Setting up Windows network on Xen

I'm trying to install a Windows XP server in a Xen environment. The OS is booting fine. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to set up the network settings. Dom0 is a Debian Lenny currently hosting around 10 Linux virtual servers. Windows tells me I have a "limited connection". iPhone code to create new NSUserDefaults objects?

I have NSUserDefaults storing a number of string variables for things like name, date of birth, address, etc. What I would like to know is how to write a code that will create a new object for each new user. For example, I have a spinning wheel that shows up immediately after the first time the user runs the app. What I want, is for that wheel to have one single option - "New User". Once that New User fills out a bunch of text fields that I am using NSUserDefaults to save, I want that user to be saved on that spinning wheel so that the next time they open up the app they have the option of returning to all of the variables that they previously put in, or creating a new user so they can input all new variables. I know how to do everything except write the code to create new users automatically. Potentially, the program should allow for a limitless number of these user objects and then just use something arbitrary like their last name to input into the spinning wheel. I would assume that the code would need to be put somewhere in the following code used to save the NSUserDefaults: NSUserDefaults *userData = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [userData setObject:txtName.text forKey:@"name"];

Windows server 2008R2 routing with single NIC

I'm trying to duplicate a Linux server configuration to a windows server 2008R2 box. Basicaly this linux server acts as a router, but it is doing its job with only 1 interface (1 NIC). Here is the network configuration in place (I cannot change it) : INTERNET <== Router (local ip = 194.168.0.3) <== linux Server (ip : 194.168.0.2). The router is configured with a DMZ to 194.168.0.2, and only allow this IP to connect to internet (Cannot change this router configuration). The linux server is configured with a default gateway to 194.168.0.3, with the option : "Act as router". All other computer on the lan have this configuration (given by DHCP) : IP range : 194.168.0.X MASK : 255.255.255.0 Default gateway : 194.168.0.2 And everything is working perfectly. I'm trying to reproduce this way of routing with only one NIC from a windows server 2008R2, but it seems that you cannnot do it with only one NIC (all exemples I see are refering to 2 NIC with 2 different network). Does someone have an idea how to achieved this in Windows server 2008R2 ? Tx you for your help ! Fabian.

Setting minimum size limit for a window in java swing

I have a JFrame which has 3 JPanels in GridBagLayout.. Now, when I minimize a windows, after a certain limit, the third JPanel tends to disappear. I tried setting minimizing size of JFrame using setMinimumSize(new Dimension(int,int)) but no success. The windows can still be minimized. So, I actually want to make a threshhold, that my window cannot be minimized after a certain limit. How can I do so?
