  • Issues with Rails, Amazon S3, and protected URLs

    So I followed this little tutorial about protecting downloads of files that are uploaded to Amazon S3 with Paperclip. When I've developed locally, it's worked fine, but since pushing the exact same code to a production server...I now get this error from Amazon when I try to access the files: <Error> <Code>InvalidArgument</Code> <Message>Either the Signature query string parameter or the Authorization header should be specified, not both</Message> <ArgumentValue>Basic dGVjaHVrdWxlbGU6ZWxlbHVrdWhjZXQ=</ArgumentValue> <ArgumentName>Authorization</ArgumentName> <RequestId>F6E455857C54F95A</RequestId> <HostId>X4QA2pw9wpHtJtJ2T8qxCyINjq4PLHQVF4VrlYjpX7Ayh694BgQprh5p8H7NRCAt</HostId> </Error> Example URL: http://s3.amazonaws.com/media.example.com/assets/videos/1/original.mov?AWSAccessKeyId=MY_ACCESS_KEY&Expires=1271972624&Signature=7wWH2WYHPO0o9szwPJbimUMqAig%3D That URL is generated using AWS::S3::S3Object.url_for using the aws-s3 gem. So...not even sure where to start. The fact that it works fine when the app is running locally but not when in production really doesn't make sense.   • XML Schema (XSD) to Rails ActiveRecord Mapping?

    I'm looking for a way to convert an XML Schema definition file into an ActiveRecord modeled database. Does anyone know of a tool that happens to do this? So far the best way I've found is to first load the XSD into an RDBMS like postgres or mysql and then have rails connect to do a rake db:schema:dump. This however, only leaves me with a database without rails Models. What would be the best way to import/load this xsd based database into rails?

  • Rails: Multiple "has_many through" for the two same models?

    Can't wrap my head around this... class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :fantasies, :through => :fantasizings has_many :fantasizings, :dependent => :destroy end class Fantasy < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :users, :through => :fantasizings has_many :fantasizings, :dependent => :destroy end class Fantasizing < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :fantasy end ... which works fine for my primary relationship, in that a User can have many Fantasies, and that a Fantasy can belong to many Users. However, I need to add another relationship for liking (as in, a User "likes" a Fantasy rather than "has" it... think of Facebook and how you can "like" a wall-post, even though it doesn't "belong" to you... in fact, the Facebook example is almost exactly what I'm aiming for). I gathered that I should make another association, but I'm kinda confused as to how I might use it, or if this is even the right approach. I started by adding the following: class Fantasy < ActiveRecord::Base ... has_many :users, :through => :approvals has_many :approvals, :dependent => :destroy end class User < ActiveRecord::Base ... has_many :fantasies, :through => :approvals has_many :approvals, :dependent => :destroy end class Approval < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :fantasy end ... but how do I create the association through Approval rather than through Fantasizing? If someone could set me straight on this, I'd be much obliged!

  • wxruby - Set max length of ComboBox

    Is is possible to set the Max length of a ComboBox in wxruby? I have looked in the documentation but find nothing http://wxruby.rubyforge.org/doc/combobox.html But if i do my_combobox.methods.sort I get set_max_size and set_min_size in the list. But When I call it my_combobox.set_max_length(100) I only get undefined method 'set_max_length' for #<Wx::ComboBox:0x4d4a914> I've also tried to call it as a private method def my_combobox.max(i) set_max_length(i) end my_combobox.max(100) But with the same result. The issue I want to avoid is that if somebody pastes 6000+ characters in my Combobox the text becomes white.

  • Connect rails application to MsSQL 2005 from Windows

    Hi guys. I (sadly) have to deploy a rails application on Windows XP which has to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Surfing in the web there are a lot of hits for connect from Linux to MsSQL, but cannot find out how to do it from Windows. Basically I followed these steps: Install dbi gem Install activerecord-sql-server-adapter gem My database.yml now looks like this: development: adapter: sqlserver mode: odbc dsn: test_dj host: HOSTNAME\SQLEXPRESS database: test_dj username: guest password: guest But I'm unable to connect it. When I run rake db:migrate I get IM002 (0) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified I'm not a Windows user, so cannot understand really well the meaning of dsn element or so. Does someone have an idea how to solve this? Thanks in advance

My server is warning me that line 37 will be deprecated, specifically: #Server error: views/projects/index.html.erb:37: warning: Object#id will be deprecated; use Object#object_id #Views/projects/index.html.erb: 6: <% for project in @projects do %> 36: <%= project.id %> 37: <%= Matching.find_all_by_customer_id_and_project_id( @customer.id, project.id).id %> 38: <%= @customer.id %> Here's my confusion. Line 36 project.id isn't raising a warning, so I assume the issue is that I'm calling ID on the Matching model. Why is it the case that only Matching raising an error and not customer or project? How can I rectify this in my code? Thanks very much.

  • Rspec-rails doesn't seem to find my models

    Hi - I'm trying out rspec, and immediately hit a wall when it doesn't seem to load db records I know exist. Here's my fairly simple spec (no tests yet). require File.expand_path(File.dirname(__FILE__) + '../spec_helper') describe SomeModel do before :each do @user1 = User.find(1) @user2 = User.find(2) end it "should do something fancy" end I get an ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound exception, saying it couldn't find User w/ ID=1 or ID=2, which I know for a fact exist. I set both test and development databases to point to the same schema in database.yml, so this shouldn't be database mixup. I also ran script/generate rspec after installing the gems (rspec, rspec-rails), and gem.config both environment.rb and test.rb. Any idea what I'm missing? thanks. EDIT Seems I was running the tests with rake spec:models, which emptied the db and thus no records were found. When I used % spec spec/models/some_model_spec.rb, everything worked as expected.

  • problems with build params for accepts_nested_attributes_for

    I'm trying to add the user_id to a nested attribute that gets built by a parent controller but it doesn't seem to have the desired effect? Ie. I have a model called Place.rb which accepts_nested_attributes_for :reviews The nested attribute works fine and I build it inside the Places controller like so... @review = @place.reviews.build(:user_id => current_user.id) I was previously adding the user thru the form, but would like to do it thru the controller so that it only adds the user_id on creation, as it might get updated by someone else and i don't want the update changing the user_id... old way which works: <%= e.label :content, "Review" %><br /> <%= e.text_area :content, :rows => 20, :class => 'jquery_ckeditor' %><br /> <%= e.hidden_field :user_id, :value => current_user.id %> but thru the controller the build method with options has no effect? Any ideas? Can I not do this thru the build?

But when I click, the vote number can not be updated immediately.     HI, I have a Test model, which has_many questions, and Question, which has_many answers... When I make a query for a Test with :include = [:questions, {:questions = :answers}] ActiveRecord makes two more queries to fetch the questions and then to fetch the answers - it doesn`t join them!!! When I do the query with :joins ActiveRecord makes the query, but later when I need the Test.questions or Test.questions.answers ActiveRecord makes again those 2 extra queries!!! And later when I enumerate the questions or answers in the log I see other queries for each object, but it has Cache tag... Is this normal?

    I'm using will_paginate for pagination, which has been working well so far, except for this one thing. If I try to paginate a scope, for instance class User < ActiveRecord::Base named_scope :scope, lambda { etc } end User.scope.paginate({:page => params[:page], :per_page => 10}) That will tell me paginate is an undefined method. I'd rather not have to use a second solution for only this scope, is there something I can do here?

  • Authlogic OpenID: Fetching E-Mail from Provider.

    This is a really weird problem: I have set up the authlogic_openid_selector_example app. When i register, the email id is not returned by the openid provider the first time. But if i delete the account and register again, the email id is returned. But this doesn't seem to be happening in the example hosted here: http://big-glow-mama.heroku.com/. How do i fix this problem? Has this got to do with caching? I have hosted my version of the app here: http://pingauthtest.heroku.com/ I guess the author of authlogic_openid_selector_example app (@holden) has forgotten to commit new changes. :) I looked at my development log and the first time the provider doesn't return the openid.ext1.value.ext0 which contains the email id. This is returned the second time only after having deleted the account first.   • Simulating MySQL's ORDER BY FIELD() in Postgresql

    Hello all, Just trying out Postgresql for the first time, coming from MySQL. In our Rails application we have a couple of locations with SQL like so: SELECT * FROM `currency_codes` ORDER BY FIELD(code, 'GBP', 'EUR', 'BBD', 'AUD', 'CAD', 'USD') DESC, name ASC It didn't take long to discover that this is not supported/allowed in Postgresql. Does anyone know how to simulate this behaviour in Postgres or do we have to pull to sorting out into the code? Thanks Peer
