• Best Linux Distro for web services (Nginx & node.js) on laptop: Compaq 6710b?

  I haven't used Linux in 5+ years, aside from d/l occasional system recovery CDs off DistroWatch, so I don't know the current landscape. Related postings on this forum are several years old & may not relate to my hardware (Compaq 6710b laptop, Core2Duo Centrino). Requirements: Use the Compaq 6710b laptop's WiFi out of the box enough frequently updated pre-made packages for web hosting & development (Nginx & node.js are biggest concerns, everyone has Apache & PHP, & I'm not crazy about building from source) prefer be easy enough to use, but outside help available (so a small user-base distro is only OK if the community is active & a major disto's packages are compatable) configuration easy to transfer to outside web hosts. You have actually installed/used recommended disto (don't have to be expert) TIA!

• Error with my JQuery code in IE but not Firefox

• Jquery can't get form data in opera

  I can't understand why in Opera and IE the following code does not work... $("#form_" + $(this).attr('id')).serialize(); I checked it by only getting the attribute; worked I checked if I could get the form data without serialize; worked How should I code this? Tried a lot of combinations and stuff but nothing works.. why does this isn't working in opera? In chrome I have no problems... To answer some of the questions below I have multiple forms on my page, each with an unique id (from_1, form_5 etc.) I checked this and is correct. The form data needs to be fetched when a select changes, so data call is fired by an change event.

• Better alternatives to know whether a control is valid in javascript?

  I want to know whether a control is valid or not in javascript. Is there a direct client side API available in Asp.Net which can tell me whether a control is valid or not? Eg. If I have 2 validators attached to a textbox, I need a function that can tell me whether the textbox is valid or not. If even 1 validator is not valid then it should return false. I can't seem to find a function that can give me this.   I'm using ~/.ssh/config for logging to the internal.local corporate server: Host internal.local ProxyCommand ssh -e none corporate.proxy nc %h %p But after closing session (typing exit), my sshd session on server stays still active (I see it through different connection). Hot do I close session or change my config in the appropriate way, to eleminate hang sessions? First check from the second, root session: ps -fu user_name user_name 861 855 0 16:58:16 pts/3 0:00 -bash user_name 855 854 0 16:58:13 ? 0:00 /usr/lib/ssh/sshd After logging out: user_name 855 854 0 16:58:13 ? 0:00 /usr/lib/ssh/sshd Just after scp files to/from the internal.local a new scp sessions still hangs on the server.

• How can I speed up a MySQL retore from a dump file?

  I am restoring a 30GB database from a mysqldump file to an empty database on a new server. When running the SQL from the dump file, the restore starts very quickly and then starts to get slower and slower. Individual inserts are now taking 15+ seconds. The tables are MyISAM. The server has no other active connections. SHOW PROCESSLIST; only shows the insert from the restore (and the show processlist itself). Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing the dramatic slowdown? Are there any MySQL variables that I can change to speed the restore while it is progressing?

  I am using active directory in windows server 2008 R2 having IP address is 10.10.10.10 and my DSL modem Ip is 10.10.10.101. All clients are using 10.10.10.101 default gw to access the Internet. I don't know who is using Torrent in network or downloading something via IDM or something else. I just want to Monitor my clients for who are download via torrent or whatever. Is there anything in Windows Server 2008r2 that would allow me to do this monitoring, or do I need something else?

• Why can't I set attribute "TYPE" of LI element in IE?

  Hello, I've just come to an unusual beghavior of Internet Explorer IE (v8.0.6001.18904). When I try to set "type" attribute of any <LI> element, it will result into error. I used jQuery (v1.32): $("<li>").attr("type", "test"); The same thing works for DIV. LI element does not seem to have "type" attribute reserved by HTML or XHTML definitions. It also might be jQuery issue. Solution is simple - just use another attribute name :-) But is there someone out there who knows WHY does this error occur? Could it happen with another attribute names? Why the error comes with LI element only?

  Got myself in a funny situation: page has three tables. Using sortEnd, any time you sort one table, it sorts the other three. However, since I bound sortEnd to the function that does the sorting, you get a infinite loop of sorting/resorting. • Windows 7 Desktop background picture in Group Policy displaying black - XP working correctly

  We want everyone on the Windows Domain to have the same desktop background. This is set up in a Group Policy. This works great in Windows XP but the Windows 7 machines display a black background. I have re-created the Group Policy, done various tests with different types and sizes of files Enabling and Disabling Active Desktop. I have researched and tried some options and patches from Microsoft as well. Any idea what I can try or even how to determine the problem?

• How to get a windows domain server to recognize a linux machine by its name?

  In my company I ran into an issue where we have a linux machine that serves up a Subversion repository. Its hooked up via LDAP to the Active Directory. We got an account setup for an application and they set the Limited Workstations up so it didn't have full access to the network. The problem is that even though the hostname for our machine resolves correctly for me, the credentials for the application account seem to come back as not being allowed based on the name (the error was related to authorized workstations). I don't have access to any of the domain servers but it might be helpful to come at the management or high-level techs with some ideas, they don't seem to have a solution besides allowing all workstations for the user. Does anyone have any idea on how to get my linux machine to properly identify itself with the Domain machine by name?

• Image Replacement (JS/JQuery) working in IE but not FF

  I have tried multiple solutions for replacing broken images (both JS & jQuery) and all work perfectly with IE but not in FF, is there a reason for this? Are images handled differently in FF that may cause this? • Cisco 5505 VPN RDP not working

  I am in dire straights over here. We just changed our LAN from a 192.168.1.0 to a 172.16.4.0. We run Active Directory in our environment and our gateway is a Cisco 5505 ASA. Since the change, our clients can VPN in and make a connection but cannot RDP to any machines that they need to get to on the LAN that they VPN into. I updated the VPN address pool and DNS servers but I'm not sure what else I need to configure. I can send anything you need as I am not an expert and I really, really appreciate the help!

  Hello everybody, I just have a quick question about how to generate id's on-the-fly for HTML elements. So far I've tried a few things, I started with a "for" loop, I already know how many elements I have to generate Id's for, in this case I have an "ul" with 6 "li". My "for" loop is as follows: var items = $("ul li").length; for(var i = 0; i <= items; i++){ $("ul li").attr("id", "number" + i); } "number" would be the new id concatenated with "i", so I get a different Id for each "li". As you can probably tell, this does not work, because I end up with the same Id for each "li": in this case I get <li id="number6">... </li> for all the "li" elments in the "ul". I tried a "while" loop and ".each()" with jQuery but I get the exact same thing. Any help would be appreciated.
