• Run shell script using fabric and piping script text to shell's stdin

  Is there a way to execute a multi-line shell script by piping it to the remote shell's standard input in fabric? Or must I always write it to the remote filesystem, then run it, then delete it? I like sending to stdin as it avoids the temporary file. If there's no fabric API (and it seems like there is not based on my research), presumably I can just use the ssh module directly. Basically I wish fabric.api.run was not limited to a 1-line command that gets passed to the shell as a command line argument, but instead would take a full multi-line script and write it to the remote shell's standard input.

• What's the easiest way to use OAuth with ActiveResource?

  I'm working with some old code and using ActiveResource for a very basic Twitter integration. I'd like to touch the app code as little as possible and just bring OAuth in while still using ActiveResource. Unfortunately I'm finding no easy way to do this. I did run into the oauth-active-resource gem, but it's not exactly documented and it appears to be designed for creating full-on API wrapper libraries. As you can imagine, I'd like to avoid creating a whole Twitter ActiveResource API wrapper for this one legacy change. Any success stories out there? In my instance, it might be quicker to just leave ActiveResource rather than get this working. I'm happy to be proven wrong!

• SMO some times doesn't display the instances in sql2008 cluster

  Hi I have used SMO API.in that i have used SmoApplication.EnumAvailableServers(FALSE) and from that i have filtered local instances i have used this approch insted of true to make this as convinent for remote sqldiscovery also.using that api created a dll and use that dll in c++. Now this is working in all combinations but some times it is failed to retrieve the instannces in win2008 sql2008 cluster combination. if i run the exe for 5 times it got succeed for 3 times and failed for two times... What is wromg with win-sql2008 cluster .is there any additional changes needed to make it work properrly.My firewall is off and also added exception for tcp port 1433. Anyy help is greately Appreciated... Thanks in Advance.

• OpenAL - determine maximum sources

  Is there an API that allows you to define the maximum number of OpenAL "sources" allowed by the underlying sound hardware? Searching the internet, I found 2 recommendations : keep generating OpenAL sources till you get an error. However, there is a note in FreeSL (OpenAL wrapper) stating that this is "very bad and may even crash the library" assume you only have 16; why would anyone ever require more? (!) The second recommendation is even adopted by FreeSL. So, is there a common API to define the number of simultaneous "voices" supported? Thank you for your time, Bill

• What would you recommend for a large-scale Java data grid technology: Terracotta, GigaSpaces, Cohere

  I've been reading up on so-called "data grid" solutions for the Java platform including Terracotta, GigaSpaces and Coherence. I was wondering if anyone has real-world experience working any of these tools and could share their experience. I'm also really curious to know what scale of deployment people have worked with: are we talking 2-4 node clusters or have you worked with anything significantly larger than that? I'm attracted to Terracotta because of its "drop in" support for Hibernate and Spring, both of which we use heavily. I also like the idea of how it decorates bytecode based on configuration and doesn't require you to program against a "grid API." I'm not aware of any advantages to tools which use the approach of an explicit API but would love to hear about them if they do in fact exist. :) I've also spent time reading about memcached but am more interested in hearing feedback on these three specific solutions. I would be curious to hear how they measure up against memcached in the event someone has used both.

• Ruby ways to authenticate using headers?

  I am designing an API system in Ruby-on-Rails, and I want to be able to log queries and authenticate users. However, I do not have a traditional login system, I want to use an APIkey and a signature that users can submit in the HTTP headers in the request. (Similar to how Amazon's services work) Instead of requesting /users/12345/photos/create I want to be able to request /photos/create and submit a header that says X-APIKey: 12345 and then validate the request with a signature. Are there any gems that can be adapted to do that? Or better yet, any gems that do this without adaptation? Or do you feel that it would be wiser to just have them send the API key in each request using the POST/GET vars?

  I'm developing blog speaker app. I wanna pause the audio when bluetooth is disabled like iPod app. I thought it's not possible without using private api after reading this. Check if Bluetooth is Enabled? But, my customer told me that Rhapsody and DI Radio apps both support it. Then I found iOS5 has Core Bluetooth framework. https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/CoreBluetooth/Reference/CoreBluetooth_Framework/CoreBluetooth_Framework.pdf CBCentralManagerStatePoweredOff status seems like the one. But, the description says this api only supports Bluetooth 4.0 low energy devices. Did anyone try doing the same thing? I want to support current popular bluetooth headsets, or bluetooth enabled steering wheel on the car. I don't know if it's worth trying when it only supports some brand new bluetooth.

  I am trying to write a jQuery plugin, that can be applied to a selector. Within this plugin, there are multiple calls to webservices, where callback methods are required. The problem I am having is maintaining the current context item in the each loop of the selector.   We use Tomcat to host our WAR based applications. We are servlet container compliant J2EE applications with the exception of org.apache.catalina.authenticator.SingleSignOn. We are being asked to move to a commercial J2EE application server. The first downside to changing that I see is the cost. No matter what the charges for the application server, Tomcat is free. Second is the complexity. We don't use either EJB nor EAR features (of course not, we can't), and have not missed them. What then are the benefits I'm not seeing? What are the drawbacks that I haven't mentioned? Mentioned were... JTA - Java Transaction API - We control transaction via database stored procedures. JPA - Java Persistence API - We use JDBC and again stored procedures to persist. JMS - Java Message Service - We use XML over HTTP for messaging. This is good, please more!

  I would like to get the application icon for all foreground applications running on my Mac. I'm already iterating over all applications using the Process Manager API. I have determined that any process that does not have the modeBackgroundOnly flag set in the processMode (as retrieved from GetProcessInformation()) is a "foreground" application, and shows up in the task switcher window. All I need is an API that gives me a CImageRef (or similar) that contains the application icon for a process. I'm free to use either carbon or cocoa APIs.

• openCV usage cvFindDominantPoints

  Hi, Does anyone know how to use the cvFindDominantPoints API of openCV? I basically have a 1 channel, binary image from which I get a set of contours. Judging from the image, I seem to be getting the correct contours. Now, I am selecting one of these contours to get dominant points of. This contour has about 60 vertices. However, the API call to cvFindDominantPoints is giving me a sequence of points (about 15) that does not even lie on the contour. It is quite far from it. Any insight? my usage: CvSeq *dominantpoints = cvFindDominantPoints(targetSeq, tristorage, CV_DOMINANT_IPAN, 7, 9, 9, 150);

• Wunderground and UTC Offset

  I am consuming the international weather forecasts via Wunderground's XML API: http://wiki.wunderground.com/index.php/API_-_XML Looking at an output for Kabul, Afghanistan for instance: http://api.wunderground.com/auto/wui/geo/ForecastXML/index.xml?query=OAKB I notice that there is no UTC offset. The closest that I can see is this: <tz_short>AFT</tz_short> Which identifies the current TimeZone is AFT. The problem I see is that there is no universally accepted time zone abbreviations, so I cannot take these abbreviations and look up and offset from C#'s TimeZoneInfo objects. Is there a listing of Wunderground's Time Zones abbreviations/names/offsets so I can map their Time Zones to the TimeZoneInfo objects, or is there a better way to get this information? I will need to use the TimeZoneInfo so I can calculate daylight savings time for different locations internationally.

  I'm currently developing an app which will use a Linq to SQL (or possibly EF) data access layer. We already have a database which holds all our Contacts information, but there is currently no API around this. I need to interact with this DB from the new app to retrieve contact details. I can think of two ways I could do this - 1) Develop a suite of web services against the contacts database 2) Write a Linq to SQL (or EF) DAL and API against the contacts database I will probably be developing several further apps in the future which will also need access to the Contacts data. Which would generally be the prefered method? What are the points I need to consider? Am I even asking a sensible question, or am I missing something obvious?

  Are there any .NET APis that can read/update the system.webServer node in web.config? I know I can do it via reading/parsing the web.config file as xml but that's awkward. To read/update the system.web node in .NET 2 I can use: HttpModulesSection httpModulesSection = (HttpModulesSection)configuration.GetSection("system.web/httpModules"); But is there any API based way of accessing system.web/modules using .NET 2? I have to reference the .NET 2 version of system.web.configuration because I don't know in advance if my web app will be run on a server with .NET 2 or 3.5. So it is limited to .NET 2 API calls only. To properly do this I'll need to stub the Spotify API and get consistent return values (stuff like popularity of tracks changes very frequently). Does anybody know how to stub web calls in Scala, the JVM in general or by using some external tool I could hook up into my Maven setup? PS I'm basically looking for something like Ruby's FakeWeb...   Typically you can assign either Full and Sendas permissions to mailboxes using Powershell. In our organization we have a need to assign other fine grained permissions like editor, reader , author to the shared mailboxes. We are using a third party tool to achieve this. I am pretty happy with the tool except for that fact that it is a GUI only tool. I am trying to automate the entire process of shared mailbox creation by using a combination of embedded powershell in C# program. All other steps are easy to automate but because this tool is GUI only, I am really struck. Is there an API method available to to achieve this? I guess EWS API can provide some answer but I really do not know where to start.

  In the Facebook javascript api there is a login function in which you specify extended permissions: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/javascript/FB.login One of these permissions is offline access. So I can save the facebook user's session key and assume it will not expire for a long time. The question I have is simple - how do I use the session key? I understand that the session key will last longer, but I don't understand how to use it in the Facebook API. For one of my products, a user must restart his/her browser and I would like to recognize them when they restart. The problem is that they are logged out of facebook, so they must login on my site again where I would rather just use offline access. Sample code would be great! Thanks

  I'm writing an IO completion port based server (source code here) using the Windows DLL API in Python using the ctypes module. But this is a pretty direct usage of the API and this question is directed at those who have a knowledge of IOCP, not Python. As I understand the documentation for CreateIoCompletionPort, you specify your "user defined" completion key when you call this function with a file handle (in my case a socket) you are associating with the created IOCP. When you get around to calling GetQueuedCompletionStatus, you get a completion key value along with a pointer to an overlapped object. The completion key should identify what overlapped object and request has completed. However, let's say I pass in 100 as the completion key in my CreateIoCompletionPort call with an overlapped object. When the same overlapped object has its IO completed and it arrives back through GetQueuedCompletionStatus, the completion key that accompanies it is much larger and bares no resemblance to the original value of 100. Am I misunderstanding how the completion key works, or must I be doing it wrong in the source code I linked above?

• How to programmatically add mailbox alias on an Exchange 2007 server from C# web app?

  As the subject says, I have a C# web application (.NET 3.5) that's communicating with an Exchange 2007 server. What I need help with is to programmatically (preferably from the web app itself) add a new mailbox alias to a certain mailbox and then before sending out the mail set the new alias as the reply-to address. I'm fairly new to scripting, but from what I've read so far, most people seem to be suggesting the Exchange Powershell to accomplish this. Any hints towards a third-part API that would solve this would be appreciated. I've looked at the EWS API but from what I've seen so far it doesn't look like that's what I'm looking for.
