• WHM local/external mail server confusion

  We host several websites on the same server using WHM but this seems to confuse the mail routing when someone has their own external mail servers - it looks locally. We have our own email accounts hosted on the server. When creating an account for a client on the same server WHM adds the default entries to the DNS for that account. However this client has their own mail servers elsewhere. But when sending them an email it never reaches that external server - it just sees the local, incorrect one. I realise I can update my DNS to point to the external server, but this means I am copying their settings and if they are changed, then I will also need to update mine. Are there some settings I can use to force it to use the external servers without having to copy the settings.

• Lubuntu: How do I autostart xfce4 power manager?

  I just upgraded my 64 bit Lubuntu to 13.10 on my netbook today. After the upgrade, I simply can't autostart the xfce4 power manager. I tried to add from the desktop session settings, I tried to copy the power manager.desktop file to ~/.config/autostart folder. Everything looks fine. Then I logout, log back in and the darn power manager just won't start automatically. It only starts when I double click the icon, or if I start it from the terminal.

• Is it possible to use Back in Time with Ubuntu One without storing the back up files locally?

  I use Deja Dup as my back up tool. Love its simplicity and the fact that I can store my back up directly on my Ubuntu One account. Now I really like the flexibility of Back in Time, but I can not find a clean way to store my back up in Ubuntu One. Some threads suggest to use the Ubuntu One folder in your system, and that works, but it also keeps a local copy of the back up in my system, and I do not want that. Any work around for this?   I've got a bit of a strange problem.. Basically, I'm building a fairly complex (un-compiled, interpreted) program in Python. I've been working on most of this code for other purposes for a few months, and therefore don't want my client to be able to simple copy and paste it and then try and sell it (it's worth a fair amount). The other problem is that I need the script to run on a server that my client is paying for. Is there any way I can secure a particular folder on the machine from root access, make it so only one particular can access the directory? The OS is Ubuntu.

• How to make read-only file system writable?

  I am not sure since when the filesystem on my digital audio player has been changed to be read-only. I cannot copy files into it or remove files on it. Are there some possible reasons for the player's file system to change the permission of its file system? I tried chmod: $ sudo chmod a+rw SGTL\ MSCN/ chomd: changing permissions of `SGTL MSCN/': Read-only file system where "SGTL MSCN" is the mounted point of the digital audio player. • Assemble static site from templates? (don't want to reinvent the wheel)

  I have a site that is 100% static content (no php, just some javascript). There's several "blocks" like the header, menu, footer, etc. that are the same on each page. Rather than do a lot of copy/pasting, I was thinking of some kind of template system where I could run a CLI command (in php, perl, python, shell, whatever) and have it replace all the block tags with the actual block text. I did see some answers in this question, but those seem oriented towards "we provide the style and layout, you provide the text". In my case, I have everything as far as layout, css, etc. - just want to do a glorified sed. Before I invent the wheel, I was wondering if there was a tool out there already.

  I've been writing a small C application that operates on files, and I've found that I have been copy+pasting this code around my functions: char fullpath[PATH_MAX]; fullpath[0] = '\0'; strcat(fullpath, BASE_PATH); strcat(fullpath, subdir); strcat(fullpath, "/"); strcat(fullpath, filename); // do something with fullpath... Is there a better way? The first thought that comes to mind is to create a macro but I'm sure this is a common problem in C, and I'm wondering how others have solve it.

• Can we 301 redirect to a new page, but still publish the old content somewhere else?

  We have a page on the site which ranks well for an SEO term (top 5) but contains old information. We have added a new page but Google doesn't rank it that well. Information on these pages is time sensitive. Old: example.com/2013-related-information.html New: example.com/2014-related-information.html Obvious solution is to delete old page and do a 301 redirect to the new page. Now, can we still keep the old page by giving it a new URL. example.com/2013-related-information.html is redirected to example.com/2014-related-information.html example.com/2014-related-information.html is recreated with a new address such as example.com/new-2013-related-information.html What we are trying to do is to send the user to the fresh page but still not destroying the record copy if someone wants to go and dig up the old information.

  I have a software product. it will probably run on VMs that have no network connection at all. I want the user to pay for each VM the user runs. I thought to ask the user for some kind of hardware ID and provide him with serial that is unique for his machine. But user can just copy the VM image and than have two machines running? So I thought of having a security dongle. But how can I prevent user from running two VM's on the same machine both connected to the same dongle? This should be only basic defense so that actual hacking will be required to breach the license and not only spinning one more VM.

• Update GRUB to reflect changed partition location

  I currently have 3 partitions: Windows, Ubuntu, and swap. I want to move my windows partition by about 20GB. When I try to do this in GParted, it tells me that this will mess up GRUB, and that there is a page that can resolve these issues. However, this page does not actually mention my issue. I am not moving my boot partition (Ubuntu). How can I force GRUB to look for operating systems that are on the drive? I know that this is possible, because when Ubuntu was installed it found Windows without any issues. Additionally, if I create a copy of a partition, how can I add that to GRUB (I assume it will be the same command as above, but if not, what would it be)? Note: OS prober is mentioned here but it doest not list how to use it, or where to find it.

• Upgrading a live 8.04 LTS server to More uptodate version

  Running Apache, MySQL, PHP with Moodle 1.9.9 running as a school based CMS. All possible updates for 8.04 have been applied. Moodle 2.x from Versions 2.1 onwards needs Php version 5.3.2 which is included in more recent distribution version. Would I be better (safer) upgrading php & mysql or upgrading Ubuntu to a more recent version? - if upgrading Ubuntu is better, are there any caveats i should know before attempting this. I will be taking a Copy of the entire server before doing any upgrading. Hoping to run on a test version also. Bit green on Linux hence lack of confidence.

I've learned that EOF is -1. i type -1 but it just reprints it. It's a never ending loop. Over time did the library get changed and differs from what the book intended it to be? when i say library i mean the putchar()/getchar() that's in the library... sorry.

• Move site to new domain divided by language across subdomains

  I managed to find a nice domain for a fairly fledgling site of mine that actually hasn't been parked by scumbag squatters. Given the upcoming move I'm thinking I'd take the opportunity to split the content across subdomains according to language, much like wikipedia for example: current: www.old-domain.com/en/subject # English www.old-domain.com/subjecto # Spanish (default so not locale in url) proposed en.new-domain.com/subject es.new-domain.com/subjecto The advantage of doing this is a fairly competitive keyword such that I may wish to put a copy of my application on a Spanish slice in order to gain a few serp's. Also pure vanity. Google's webmaster tools allows me to move to the new domain and I can add the root domain and the subdomains but forward to only one. I'll 301 from the old domain appropriately but is there anything I should know about webmaster tools in this respect where effectively I'm moving to two addresses? (Feel free to dissuade me from doing this if it's a bad idea in comments.) I've now asked this same question on google's forums.

• Can I use metro style interface in my own web application?

  I am wondering if I would need to license the Metro style or if I can just freely use it in my own applications. I mean, is it patented or protected in any way that would prevent me from building my own implementation? I effectively would like to copy the visible part of it. • Communication between Box2D and libGDX Stage (Scene2D) running in separate threads

  I'm making a physics based 2D game using libGDX and Box2D. I want to move the execution of the simulation out of render thread. I use immutable messages and the BlockingQueue to pass the information about player actions. The Box2D applies forces and runs a frame of simulation. In the next step I would like to sync back the changes and update Scene2D Actors accordingly. Making an immutable copy of the state of the game world and sending it back using Gdx.app.postRunnable() is one option but it seems inefficient. Is there any other option?

  When building a public facing website that allows visitors to post comments, link to media and/or upload media (e.g. audio, video, images) ... what should I do to protect myself legally in the case such visitors link to or upload content that they shouldn't (e.g. adult oriented media, copyrighted images and/or media owned by someone else, etc...)? Some questions that come to mind in particular: Should I allow folks to post anonymously? If I make visitors agree to some kind of statement whereby they take full responsibility for what they upload, what should the copy of such a statement be? • Resize a 2TB partition on a 3TB disk created with fdisk

  I recently added a new 3TB hard drive to a headless media server (HP proliant microserver) running Ubuntu server 12.04. I followed this tutorial, which uses fdisk to create a single partition of the maximum size reported by fdisk. I have choosen ext4 format. I then copied across all my media, which took some time. I am guessing that fidisk has a 2TB limit, because du is reporting this as the size. Is there any way to increase the size of the partition to 3TB without having to copy all my media over again?

Coming to news my site is kind of a mashup. It gathers data from various sites and presents them in more user friendly way for quick digestion and access. My problem here is that since the news part of the site can be found from other sites, my site could suffer in search rankings. Is there any solution to this. One thing I thought of is to put disallow on all the news ariticles pages, so google does not crawl them. Will this be helpful to me.
