• Capturing time intervals when somebody was online? How would you impement this feature?

  Hello, Our aim is to build timelines saying about periods of time when user was online. (It really doesn't matter what user we are talking about and where he was online) To get information about onliners we can call API method, someservice.com/api/?call=whoIsOnline whoIsOnline method will give us a list of users currently online. But there is no API method to get information about who IS NOT online. So, we should build our timelines using information we got from whoIsOnline. Of course there will be a measurement error (we can't track information in realtime). Let's suppose that we will call whoIsOnline method every 2 minutes (yes, we will run our script by cron every 2 minutes). For example, calling whoIsOnline at 08:00 will return Peter_id Michal_id Andy_id calling whoIsOnline at 08:02 will return Michael_id Andy_id George_id As you can see, Peter has gone offline, but we have new onliner - George. Available instruments are Db(MySQL) / text files / key-value storage (Redis/memcache); feel free to choose any of them (or even all of them). So, we have to get information like this George_id was online... 12 May: 08:02-08:30, 12:40-12:46, 20:14-22:36 11 May: 09:10-12:30, 21:45-23:00 10 May: was not online And now question... How would you store information to implement such timelines? How would you query/calculate information about periods of time when user was online? Additional information.. You cannot update information about offline users, only users who are "currently" online. Solution should be flexible: timeline information could be represented relating to any timezone. We should keep information only for last 7 days. Every user seen online is automatically getting his own identifier in our database. Uff.. it was really hard for me to write it because my English is pretty bad, but I hope my question will be clear for you. Thank you.

• Fast sign in C++ float...are there any platform dependencies in this code?

  Searching online, I have found the following routine for calculating the sign of a float in IEEE format. • How to make a small flash swf with ComboBox in Actionscript 3?

  I have a pure Actionscript 3 project, using flash.* libraries, compiles down to about 6k (using mxmlc). Program handles about 1k shapes, a few sprites, a sockets connection, works great (tastes less filling). Now, how would I add a ComboBox control without incurring excessive bloat? More specificially, I would like to keep the size under 100k. So far I have tried: Adobe mx.controls ComboBoxexample - simple mxml example compiles to 200+k both on my main Linux Box using mxmlc and in Windows using Flash Builder 4 Yahoo Astra - uses mx libraries underneath(so as bloated as Adobe?), plus does not contain exact ComboBox Keith Peter's MinimalComps - seems small, but far from providing ComboBox functionality SPAS (Swing Package for Actionscript) - compiles to 130k, but alpha version of ComboBox does not let me adjust height... asuilib - compiles to 40k, unfortunately this ComboBox does not provide for scrolling items...if it does not fit on screen no way to scroll to it Now my questions: Is there a way to lower size for projects importing mx.controls ? Maybe there is a way to fix SPAS or asuilib ComboBoxes? Perhaps, there are some other libraries which provide a ComboBox(or DropList)?

  I have some bulk data in a text file that I need to import into a MySQL table. The table consists of two fields .. ID (integer with auto-increment) Name (varchar) The text file is a large collection of names with one name per line ... (example) John Doe Alex Smith Bob Denver I know how to import a text file via phpMyAdmin however, as far as I understand, I need to import data that has the same number of fields as the target table. Is there a way to import the data from my text file into one field and have the ID field auto-increment automatically? Thank you in advance for any help.

• Lazy non-modifiable list

  I was looking for a decent implementation of a generic lazy non-modifiable list implementation to wrap my search result entries. The unmodifiable part of the task is easy as it can be achieved by Collections.unmodifiableList() so I only need to sort out the the lazy part. Surprisingly, google-collections doesn't have anything to offer; while LazyList from Apache Commons Collections does not support generics. I have found an attempt to build something on top of google-collections but it seems to be incomplete (e.g. does not support size()), outdated (does not compile with 1.0 final) and requiring some external classes, but could be used as a good starting point to build my own class. Is anybody aware of any good implementation of a LazyList? If not, which option do you think is better: write my own implementation, based on google-collections ForwardingList, similar to what Peter Maas did; write my own wrapper around Commons Collections LazyList (the wrapper would only add generics so I don't have to cast everywhere but only in the wrapper itself); just write something on top of java.util.AbstractList; Any other suggestions are welcome.

• best practice to obtain time zone for iPhone vs iPod Touch

  I am creating an app that requires the users current time zone. If the device being used is an iPhone and the user has their Time Zone set to automatically change, I think I can be fairly confident that localTimeZone or systemTimezone will give me the correct time zone for the user's location. If on the other hand the device is an iPod Touch, the time zone returned by localTimeZone and systemTimeZone appears to always be whatever time zone is set in the Date & Time settings, regardless of the user's actual location. I tried using location services but, while the lat/long is being provided properly, the time zone offset in the timesStamp I am getting is always the same as whatever the user has set for their time zone setting. Any suggestions? John

  hi, I am having an issue with parsing XML with JQuery when there is a node with an option node <preferences><dashboard> <report id="si_pg_vw" order="0"> <header> <data> <option type="reportname" value="Page View"/> </data> </header> </report> the following code in firebug returns no children $reportElement.find("data")[0] however if I change option to any other value ("option2", "test" etc) then the line above returns one child which is correct.   Hi, I have a table with 58 records in mysql database. I was able to connect to my database and retrive all records and made 5 pages with links to view each pages using php script. webpage will look like this: name number john 1232343456 tony 9878768544 jack 3454562345 joe 1232343456 jane 2343454567 andy 2344560987 marcy 9873459876 sean 8374623534 mark 9898787675 nancy 8374650493 1 2 3 4 5 that's the first page of 58 records and those 5 numbers at bottom are links to each page that will display next 10 records. I got all that. but what I want to do is display the links in this way: 1-10 11-20 21-30 31-40 41-50 51-58 note: since i have 58 records, last link will display upto 58, instead of 60. Since I used the loop to create this link, depending on how many records i have, the link will change according to the number of records in my table. How can i do this? Thanks.

• Where is the iPhone's Date & Time getting it's time zone list

  I can get a list of time zones with [NSTimeZone knownTimeZoneNames], but that only gives the time zone IDs which include one or 2 cities in each time zone. The Date & Time settings has a great list of cities and I have seen a few other apps that have the same if not similar lookup lists. Where do these lists come from?? I do need to relate a picked city to it's time zone like Date & Time does. Thanks, John

Is there a way to also implicitly know which tuples have been used which satisfy the condition for sum ? I know you can separately write another query to just return the primary key ids which satisfy the condition. But, Is there any other way to do that in the same query ? probably rewrite the query in some way ? or... any suggestion ?

  I am using qunit and jquery. Latest version of both. In my code when I submit the form I have the event as e. I call e.serializeArray() Here is my test. equals(args.data, [ { "name": "user_name", "value": "john" } ], 'input data'); And this is the error message from qunit. expected: [ { "name": "user_name", "value": "david" } ] result: [ { "name": "user_name", "value": "david" } ] As you can see to the naked eye the expected and result value is same but qunit is not liking it. I guess I am missing something.

• How to Look Up Email by Full Name in Active Directory?

  I want to search for a user's email by using Active Directory. Available is the user's full name (ex. "John Doe" for the email with an email "[email protected]"). From what I've searched, this comes close to what I'm looking to do -- except that the Filter is set to "SAMAccountName", which is not what I have. Unless I'm misunderstanding, I just need to pick the right attribute and toss in the full name name in the same way. Unfortunately, I don't know what this attribute is, apparently no one has had to ask about searching for information in this manner, and that is a pretty big list (msdn * microsoft * com/en-us/library/ms675090(v=VS.85) * aspx, stackoverflow didn't let me link 2 hyperlinks because I don't have 10 rep) of attributes. Does anyone know how to obtain the user's email address through an Active Directory lookup by using the user's full name?

  Hi all.. I wrote this program, that is supposed to read about 5000 email address and send an pre-defined html mail. I am using the background worker component. The problem is this: I have wired up the method who is supposed to send the mail. But I am calling another method that is supposed to append the body html to the salutation, like public string GiveMeFullHtml(string personname) ... "Dear Mr. John Doe" + HTML ... It seems that when it hits this method call, operation completes. IUt only sends the first mail and completes. I think because the HTML string method is on another thread or sth like that. Can you give me a little insight. Do I have to get everything done in the very same method when using multi-threading? Thanks in advance

• Java problem with multiple threads when executing a runnable jar file

  I have developed a Java Swing application, which uses the SwingWorker class to perform some long running tasks. When the application is run from the IDE (Netbeans), I can start multiple long running tasks simultaneously without any problem. I created a runnable jar file for the application, in order to be able to run it from outside the IDE. The application when run from this jar file works well with the only exception that it doesn't allow me to start 2 long running tasks simultaneously. When I start the first task (assume it takes 2 minitues to complete), every thing works fine, the UI does not freeze (it never freezes). However, when I try to run another task (assume it takes just 10 seconds, therefore it should finish before the first task) while the first task has not yet completed, nothing seems to happen. In reality, the second task would have started, and also finished its processing, however its results are only displayed once the first task completes. I dunno why this is happening. Is there some restriction on the number of threads which could run simultaneously on the JVM? Are there any jvm arguments which i could try to solve this problem. I hope i explained my problem well.   I have three string objects: NSString *firstName; NSString *lastName; NSString *fullName; The values for firstName and lastName are received from NSTextFields. I then want to concatenate the two strings and place the result in fullname. This is the code that I'm using: fullName = [firstName stringByAppendingString:lastName]; However, the result does not put a space between the two names (e.g. JohnSmith). How do I add in the space? I'd like the result to look like (John Smith).

• Compare values for audit trail

  I'm attempting to develop an audit trail/tracking solution for an existing database written in PLSQL/PHP - however I'm still unsure as of yet on an easy (to implement and maintain) solution for tracking changes to fields/values. For instance, the project tracking portion of the DB APP tracks over 200 fields and ideally I'd like a nice way to show a history of changes, such as: 5/10/2010 - Project 435232 updated by John Doe Changed Project Name (Old: Test Project; New: Super Test Project) Changed Submission Date (Old: 5/10/2010; New: 5/11/2010) Changed Description (Old: This is an example!; New: This is a test example) Essentially for each field (db column) it would output a new line to show the old/new values. So far my current idea is saving the current version of the data to a temporary table, updating the primary table with the new data then loading each row into an array and doing an array compare to determine the differences. This seems a bit convoluted, and if there is an easier method I'd love to know it. Any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated!

FOR XML PATH('') but that was inlcuding weird encoded characters (eg. carriage return). ... so i'm not 100% happy with that. I also tried to see if there's a COALESCE solution, but all my attempts failed. So - any suggestions?

  I'm trying out the Highcharts jQuery plugin for creating charts of data in an MVC application. But I need to get the data for the function dynamically from an Action Method. How can I do that? • Intersection of two querysets in django

  Hello, I can't do an AND on two querysets. As in, q1 & q2. I get the empty set and I do not know why. I have tested this with the simplest cases. I am using django 1.1.1 I have basically objects like this: item1 name="Joe" color = "blue" item2 name="Jim" color = "blue" color = "white" item3 name="John" color = "red" color = "white" Is there something weird about having a many-to-many relationship or what am I missing? queryset1 = Item.objects.filter(color="blue") this gives (item1, item2) queryset2 = Item.objects.filter(color="white") this gives (item2, item3) queryset1 & queryset2 gives me the empty set [] The OR operator works fine (I'm using "|" ) Why is this so?

  I have a problem that seems similar to this fellow - I just want to display the data slightly differently. I'm pretty terrible with SQL so can't modify it to suit, but perhaps someone else can. My table looks similar to this (date format is dd/mm/yyyy): ID User Date_start Role 1 Andy 01/04/2010 A 2 Andy 10/04/2010 B 3 Andy 20/04/2010 A 4 John 02/05/2010 A I want to show the total number of days that anyone was in a certain role. Users stay in the role until there is another entry into the table. Users can only be in one role at a time. So the summary data would look like this (assuming that the date is 04/05/2010): A: 26 days B: 10 days Thanks for any help :)
