• Multimedia files written over WAN are getting truncated

  I use the windows Multimedia API to create .wav files. 1. Open file with mmsioOpen 2. Creates WAVE,frm and data chunks using mmioCreateChunk 3. Write audio data using mmioWrite 4. Ascend out of the chunks using mmioAscend 5. Close file using mmioClose The file is being written into a temporary location, so after it has been closed it gets copied to another location using the CopyFile. This program is written in C++ and works great until the file it is writing resides over a WAN in a different city or country. The end result is a wav file that should be 20-30 seconds long ends up being 4 secodns long. It is always the last bit that is missing, so when you play it back it just stops before then of the recording. I initially thought that maybe I was copying the file too soon so as a test I put in a pause of 30 seconds after closing the file using Sleep(30000), but this made no difference to either it being truncated or by how much. I have modified the program to write to a file in parrallel using CreateFile and WriteFile, and the result is the same, so it is not an issue specifically with the mmio API's. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and if there is a work-around to it? I suspect that I may end up having the temporary location on the local drive, but this is quite a big change to the application as well as existing deployments. thanks for everyones time Dean

• How do I make Home / End keys behave Windows/Linux like in Terminal.app on Mac OS on Mac Pro laptop?

  Hello. I was wondering if somebody knows how to use home/end keys behave in a Windows/ Linux fashion. What I mean is that when I press Apple + Left (Home combo on a mac book pro laptop) it should go to the beginning of the line, and Apple + Right to the end of the line. Right now they change focus to the top of the scroll history. Drives me crazy. Home / End keys behave as expected in TextMate and such but not in terminal, which makes me think it's that app specific. I found some page saying that I need to remap key bindings but I can't do that on every mac i touch. So is there another shorcut in Mac I can use or how do I make Home/End keys behave as expected?   i have this function that gives me an output of a number. • Debian modem problem

  I'm a new Debian user, it looks like a very good choice 4 me, every thing is stable, free and easy to use. The problem is, I'm using my modem to establish a dial up connection to the internet (ppp) (a very old stupid way I'm forced to use for now), and using the KPPP application to do that, and nothing is working properly for me. it seems like it didn't recognize my modem or something. I already tried to make a few stuff, and now i know my modem is on /dev/tty0, so i made a link for that on /dev/modem, and query the modem using KPPP and it responded with something like: Ati : Ati0: Ati1: ... ... Ati7: with a textBox to fill up in front of each one of thees Atis, and now, when i press connect on kppp, it says modem ready, and that's it. BTW, my modem is MDC AC'97

• Medion Akoya E5211 won't boot up or go into BIOS

  My Medion Akoya kept getting a blue screen and shutting down. Now when I try and restart the laptop, I just get a blank screen with a flashing _ in the top left corner. It doesnt beep when turned on – only if I press buttons. It doesn't give me the option to start BIOS or set up. I have tried pressing F8, F12, F2 and F3 but still nothing happens. It just goes to the the black screen with the flashing _ It is running Windows Visa Home Basic.

• Add Hexidecimal Header Info to JPEG File Using Java

  I need to add header info to a JPEG file in order to get it to work properly when shared on some websites, I've tracked down the correct info through a lot of Hex digging, but now I'm kind of stuck trying to get it into the file. I know where in the file it needs to go, and I know how long it is, my problem is that RandomAccessFile just overwrites existing data in the file and FileOutputStream appends the data to the end. I don't want either, I want to INSERT data starting at the third byte. • I can't uncheck the "read-only" attribute from a folder on a Windows Server 2008 machine.

  Hello everybody. I have a folder (C:\temp) on a windows server 2008 R2 installation. Initially it has the Read Only attribute checked, but I want to uncheck it. I am able to uncheck it and it even shows me the loading process (it is showing me that it is going through all the subfolders), but after I press OK and I go back to properties, it still remains checked as Read Only. • How to delete a large cookie that causes Apache to 400

  I've come across an issue where a web application has managed to create a cookie on the client, which, when submitted by the client to Apache, causes Apache to return the following: HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request Date: Mon, 08 Mar 2010 21:21:21 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) Content-Length: 7274 Connection: close Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> <html><head> <title>400 Bad Request</title> </head><body> <h1>Bad Request</h1> <p>Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.<br /> Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.<br /> <pre> Cookie: ::: A REALLY LONG COOKIE ::: </pre> </p> <hr> <address>Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) Server at www.foobar.com Port 80</address> </body></html> After looking into the issue, it would appear that the web application has managed to create a really long cookie, over 7000 characters. Now, don't ask me how the web application was able to do this, I was under the impression browsers were supposed to prevent this from happening. I've managed to come up with a solution to prevent the cookies from growing out of control again. The issue I'm trying to tackle is how do I reset the large cookie on the client if every time the client tries to submit a request to Apache, Apache returns a 400 client error? I've tried using the ErrorDocument directive, but it appears that Apache bails on the request before reaching any custom error handling.

• Winamp jump dialog

  In the most recent build of Winamp, either the Jump dialog has been ruined or there's some hidden "advanced" setting that i'm missing. The Jump dialog used to have a few options, like "Jump to file and play" "Jump to file without playing" "Queue file to start playing next, after this song finishes" But now it only shows (CANCEL) as the only button, and you can press enter on a file to start play. What happened to the JUMP & QUEUE feature? I want to jump to a file, but QUEUE it to be played next, not play it immediately.

• HDD is not readable - can I fix this

  I have two HDD in my system, but today morning the additional hard disk is not readable. My all data are kept inside the additional HDD. When I disconnect the additional HDD from my system then system boot as usual, but when I connect HDD my system hangs Up in windows boot logo. Please note this problem is not related to HDD order. When I connect only the additional HDD then system shows this error: disk not readable press ctrl+alt+del to restart I can see the name of additional HDD in BIOS. When I connect both HDD i get a continues beep... beeep .. beep sound. Please tell me is my HDD gone dead ? How do I get the data back ? is there any kit for recovering HDD data ?

• How do I detect whether the sample supplied by VideoSink.OnSample() is right-side up?

  We're currently using the Silverlight VideoSink to capture video from users' local webcams, kinda like so: protected override void OnSample(long sampleTime, long frameDuration, byte[] sampleData) { if (FrameShouldBeSubmitted()) { byte[] resampledData = ResizeFrame(sampleData); mediaController.SetVideoFrame(resampledData); } } Now, on most of the machines that we've tested, the video sample provided in the byte[] sampleData parameter is upside-down, i.e., if you try to take the RGBA data and turn it into, say, a WriteableBitmap, the bitmap will be upside-down. That's odd, but fairly easy to correct, of course -- you just have to reverse the array as you encode it. The problem is that at least on some machines (e.g., the single Macintosh in our test environment), the video sample provided is no longer upside-down, but right-side up, and hence, flipping the image actually results in an image that's received upside-down on the far side. I reported this to MS as a bug, but their (terse) response was that it was "As Designed". Further attempts at clarification have so far been ignored. Now, I'll grant that it's kinda entertaining to imagine the discussions behind this design decision: "OK, just to make it interesting, let's play the video rightside up on a Mac, but let's turn it upside down for Windows!" "Great idea!" "Yeah, that'll keep those developers guessing!" But beyond that, I can't find this, umm, "feature" documented anywhere, nor can I find any documentation on how one is supposed to be able to tell that a given video sample is upside down or rightside up. Any thoughts on how to tell this?

• Getting back the old alt-tab windows switching behavior in Windows 7?

  When you run more than 6 applications on Windows 7 and you press alt-TAB, icons representing the first 6 applications and the desktop appear on the first row of the grid and you can cycle with alt-TAB-TAB... through the 6 most recently used windows the usual way, but the 7th and other less recently used windows don't follow the same rules. Instead they get grouped together according to their application but disregarding whether they were recently used or not. This new behavior is mentioned here. I am very used to the old way of cycling and the new system is driving me crazy. I tend to have 20 or so windows open at one time and I frequently need to alt-tab to the 7th or 8th window on the stack but it doesn't work the same anymore. Does anyone know how to put back the old behavior, so that alt-tab-tab-tab... goes through the whole list in most-recent to least-recent order?

• Timing issue with autohotscript, fails to dump or open destination file

  I've created a autohotscript to quickly dump selected text into my jot file on the Desktop and I think I'm facing a timing error. The script works like thus: Select text when reading a text file, browsing internet, reading PDF, etc. Hit Ctrl + J Contents of selected text is dumped into my jot file. When I press Ctrl + J very quickly, it sometimes doesn't come up in my jot file and sometimes when I keep pressing Ctrl + J for a long time, many instances of the text appear. • Network keeps disconnecting - Repairing solves it. Router configuration

  My network connection keeps going insane, it will keep normal applications connected, like TeamViewer and MSN, but webpages will stop loading (Problem loading page). Everything looks connected and works like a charm, but webpages and new connections wont work. If I press "Repair" in the network connections to restart the adapter, it will work. This happens on WIRED and WIRELESS connections, both on Windows and on MacOSx. I have had this for years (different computers, routers, cities), but I never figured it out. I learn to live with it, but, I think theres probably a solution. What must I be doing wrong if this keeps happening? You guys have same thing?

• Unpredictable MBP wake from sleep in Windows 7 Boot Camp

  I have a Macbook Pro with Windows 7 installed in Boot Camp. I have serious problems with waking from sleep and not sure why. I have the default Balanced power plan selected. Many times when I close the laptop and leave it for more than just a few minutes, when I open it back up, it does not awake immediately. I often end up having to press the power button just to get it to wake up. Sometimes this causes it to wake up in Windows mode, sometimes it reboots completely, sometimes the battery has been drained and Windows has to restart (and gives me the Windows did not shut down properly message). Is this a common problem with Boot Camp? Can I fix it?

  The title doesn't tell the complete story. Please read the message. I have two objects: Adult and Child. Child has a boolean field isMale, and a reference to Adult. Adult doesn't reference Child. public class Adult { long id; } public class Child { long id; boolean isMale; Adult parent; } I want to create a query to list the number of sons each adult has including adults who don't have any sons. I tried: Query 1 SELECT adult, COUNT(child) FROM Child child RIGHT OUTER JOIN child.parent as adult WHERE child.isMale='true' GROUP BY adult which translates to sql select adult.id as col_0_0_, count(child.id) as col_1_0_, ... {omit properties} from Child child right outer join Adult adult on child.parentId=adult.id where child.isMale = 'true' group by adult.id Query 1 doesn't pick up adults that don't have any sons. Query 2: SELECT adult, COUNT(child.isMale) FROM Child child RIGHT OUTER JOIN child.parent as adult GROUP BY adult translates to sql: select adult.id as col_0_0_, count(child.id) as col_1_0_, ... {omit properties} from Child child right outer join Adult adult on child.parentId=adult.id group by adult.id Query 2 doesn't have the right count of sons. • Computer bluescreen-ing with 0x7A and 0xF4 errors

  Hiya, This computer is locking up for around 5-30 seconds before throwing Blue Screen of Death's with 0x7A and occasionally 0xF4 errors. The log files don't really show anything informative, and Windows Update doesn't show any new drivers for the HDD. Upon restart, it shows a "A disk error has occurred /n Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to continue", and to fix this I go into WinRE via the pendrive and run "bootsect /nt60 C: /force /mbr" and that seems to fix it so it boots. • Keyboard Navigation of File Open Dialog in Windows 7

  In Windows XP standard File - Open dialog, the top has a "Look In" box. I can press Alt+I to drop down a tree of the disks folders and easily navigate to other folders or network shares. In Windows 7, I can't seem to navigate the File - Open dialog as easily. The best I've been able to muster is to tab 5 times (in Excel 2007, but I assume it's a windows standard), then use arrow keys or use Alt+arrow keys like a browser to get around. It's simply not as good because I can't see the whole tree at once. Is there a way to see the whole folder tree? If not, do you have any other tips for keyboard navigation of the file open dialog in Windows 7?

• CSS sliding-door buttons center alignment

  Hi guys, I need help to align CSS buttons. I tried many different variations and I just cannot center my button the way I want. Firstly, have a look at this url: http://www.front-end-developer.net/cssbuttons/example.htm I'm using 2 images to form a button (this could be done on 1 image, but in this case we've got two). Everything works as expected as long as we apply float:left or float:right to the parent div element, to 'limit' width of the div and close it as soon as the content of the div ends. You can remove float:left from the button to see what I mean. But what about center positioned buttons? I cannot add float:left/right because I want align it in the middle. In theory, I could set { width:XXpx; margin:0 auto; } And I will get what you can see on this picture: But I don't know the length of the text inside. Having different translations my button can be very short, or 5 times that long. I also tried to use <span> instead of <div>, but unfortunately nested inline elements don't respect their padding correctly... And yes, I must use <a> inside, so buttons can be accessed by web crawlers. I'm really stuck on this one.

• how can I add a custom non-DataTable column to my DataView, in a winforms ADO.net application?

  Hi, How could I (/is it possible) to add a custom column to my DataView, and in this column display the result of a specific calculation. That is, I currently have a dataGridView which has a binding to a DataView, based on the DataTable from my database. I'd like to add an additional column to the dataGridView to display a number which is calculated by looking at this current row plus it's children row. In other words the info for the column isn't just derivable from the row data itself. Specific questions might be: a) where to add the column itself? to the DataView I assume? b) which method / event to trigger the re-calculation of the value of this custom column from ( / how do I control this) Thanks PS.   Hello, I am using on the client C# where I am converting double values to byte array. I am using java on the server and I am using writeDouble and readDouble to convert double values to byte arrays. The problem is the double values from java at the end are not the double values at the begin giving to c# writeDouble in Java Converts the double argument to a long using the doubleToLongBits method , and then writes that long value to the underlying output stream as an 8-byte quantity, high byte first. DoubleToLongBits Returns a representation of the specified floating-point value according to the IEEE 754 floating-point "double format" bit layout. • Google App Engine: Unit testing concurrent access to memcache

  Would you guys show me a way to simulating concurrent access to memcache on Google App Engine? I'm trying with LocalServiceTestHelpers and threads but don't have any luck. Every time I try to access Memcache within a thread, then I get this error: ApiProxy$CallNotFoundException: The API package 'memcache' or call 'Increment()' was not found I guess that the testing library of GAE SDK tried to mimic the real environment and thus setup the environment for only one thread (the thread that running the test) which cannot be seen by other thread.
