• How can I push a new view controller onto a different nav controllers stack and switch to it?

  I have a Tab Bar Controller created in Interface Builder Within the Tab Bar are 4 Navigation Controllers. Each controller functions separately and perfectly (yay!) What I need to be able to do is a push a view controller onto a different nav controllers stack and switch the focus onto the appropriate tab bar item (so that the user moves sideways (to a different tab) and up (to a new view) at the same time). This is my first time working with a tab bar controller, and while it's been simple to this point, figuring this out is giving me fits. Any tips you can toss my way would be much appreciated.

  I'm getting the following errors from MSBuild while trying to build a solution: C:\dev\MySln.sln : warning MSB3422: Failed to retrieve VC project information through the VC project engine object model. Unable to determine default tool for the specified file configuration. C:\dev\MySln.sln : warning MSB3425: Could not resolve VC project reference "C:\dev\MyProj.vcproj". Have you got any ideas on what's causing this? I've seen other postings about similar, but different errors such as when the MSB3422 error has a different message and shows "Illegal characters in path.", but I haven't seen any useful information about how to solve the error I'm getting where it says "Unable to determine default tool for the specified file configuration.". • How to HIDE the iPad keyboard from a MODAL view controller?

  I'm trying to hide the iPad keyboard from a modal view controller but it doesn't work. I have tried resignFirstResponder but that doesn't have any affect if we are in a modal view controller. I tried resignFirstResponder in a non-modal UINavigationController with the very same UIViewController and the keyboard hides correctly. Does anyone know how solve this problem? Thanks. [Update] it looks like there's something wrong with my code because the resignFirstResponder does work (I made a simple test case instead of using my code). But I still don't know what the problem is.

I am storing text and images in a tableview and would like the user to be able to tap on a cell to hide the navigation controller and the tabbar for full screen viewing of the content. I found this code for hiding the top bars, but it does not seem as easy to hide the tabbar. [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarHidden:YES animated:YES]; [self.navigationController setNavigationBarHidden:YES animated:YES]; Does anyone know how to do this?   Looking for clues about orienting an OpenGL ES app in landscape, most information I found dates back from 2008, most of it refering to the early versions of the SDK. Apparently, back in the days, in the case of GL it was recommended to not rotate the view, but instead to apply the rotation as a GL transformation. Is it still the case with the current SDKs? It would be so much simpler to simply rotate the window: all the touch events would be in sync with the rotation. In other words: how to set up an OpenGL view in landscape mode?

  To extend the User object with custom fields, the Django docs recommend using UserProfiles. However, according to this answer to a question about this from a year or so back: extending django.contrib.auth.models.User also works better now -- ever since the refactoring of Django's inheritance code in the models API. And articles such as this lay out how to extend the User model with custom fields, together with the advantages (retrieving properties directly from the user object, rather than through the .get_profile()). So I was wondering whether there is any consensus on this issue, or reasons to use one or the other. Or even what the Django team currently think?

  I need to create a tree menu of "nth" subcategories. I settled on using the adjacency list model for my table structure, because I won't be updating this table very much and this seemed the easiest to implement for my use. I want to style the output using "ul" and "li" tags...I already have a css and jquery solution to do the styling. My problem comes from pulling the data out of the database and using a recursive function via PHP to build the list ... the list is a concatenated string that gets parsed to build the tree. I'm really having a hard time getting the closing "ul" and "li" tags to line up just where they need to be. Is this the best way to do this? Are there other better ways using arrays or something like that to do this? Any examples you can point me to of "best practices" for building a list like this will be appreciated. Thanks.

  I need to build some sort of a custom CMS for a client of ours. These are some of the functional requirements: Must be able to manage the list of Pages in the site Each Page can contain a number of ColumnGroups A ColumnGroup is nothing more than a list of Columns in a certain ColumnGroupLayout. For example: "one column taking up the entire width of the page", "two columns each taking up half of the width", ... Each Column can contain a number ContentBlocks Examples of a ContentBlock are: TextBlock, NewsBlock, PictureBlock, ... ContentBlocks can be given a certain sorting within a Column A ContentBlock can be put in different Columns so that content can be reused without having to be duplicated. My first quick draft of how this could look like in C# code (we're using ASP.NET 4.0 to develop the CMS) can be found at the bottom of my question. One of the technical requirements is that it must be as easy as possible to add new types of ContentBlocks to the CMS. So I would like model everything as flexible as possible. Unfortunately, I'm already stuck at trying to figure out how the database should look like. One of the problems I'm having has to do with sorting different types of ContentBlocks in a Column. I guess each type of ContentBlock (like TextBlock, NewsBlock, PictureBlock, ...) should have it's own table in the database because each has it's own different fields. A TextBlock might only have a field called Text whereas a NewsBlock might have fields for the Text, the Summary, the PublicationDate, ... Since one Column can have ContentBlocks located in different tables, I guess I'll have to create a many-to-many association for each type of ContentBlock. For example: ColumnTextBlocks, ColumnNewsBlocks and ColumnPictureBlocks. The problem I have with this setup is the sorting of the different ContentBlocks in a column. This could be something like this: TextBlock NewsBlock TextBlock TextBlock PictureBlock Where do I store the sorting number? If I store them in the associaton tables, I'll have to update a lot of tables when changing the sorting order of ContentBlocks in a Column. Is this a good approach to the problem? Basically, my question is: What is the best way to model this keeping in mind that it should be easy to add new types of ContentBlocks? My next question is: What ORM can deal with that kind of modeling? To be honest, we are ORM-virgins at work. I have been reading a bit about Linq-to-SQL and NHibernate, but we have no experience with them. Because of the IList in the Column class (see code below) I think we can rule out Linq-to-SQL, right? Can NHibernate handle the mapping of data from many different tables to one IList? Also keep in mind that this is just a very small portion of the domain. Other parts are Users belonging to a certain UserGroup having certain Permissions on Pages, ColumnGroups, Columns and ContentBlocks.   Hello, Full disclosure, I'm new to Visual Studio Web Tests and coding for them. I've written a webtest; coded in VB; it runs great. Our QA engineer wants to use this script for performance testing; but he wants the nice GUI that comes when you build a WebTest with the VS WebTest Editor and run it. Is there a way to run a coded webtest through this view? He wants to be able to view each test as it runs to see which pages are having issues, but within the GUI he's used to. Alternatively, I know I could just code something that writes out to a log file; but before I go with that solution; I just wanted to see if this is possible. Any constructive input is greatly appreciated.

• How to refresh an activity? Map View refresh fails

  Hi Guys, after implementing some Android Apps, including several Map activities, I try to refresh the activity when the GPS listener's onLocationChanged() mehtod is called. I have no idea how to tell the map activity to refresh on its own and display the new coords... the coords to store will have to be in global values, so that the location listener will have access to it. • iPhone SDK:How do you play video inside a view? Rather than fullscreen.

  Hi, I am trying to play video inside a UIView, so my first step was to add a class for that view and start playing a movie in it using this code: - (IBAction)movie:(id)sender{ NSBundle *bundle = [NSBundle mainBundle]; NSString *moviePath = [bundle pathForResource:@"Movie" ofType:@"m4v"]; NSURL *movieURL = [[NSURL fileURLWithPath:moviePath] retain]; MPMoviePlayerController *theMovie = [[MPMoviePlayerController alloc] initWithContentURL:movieURL]; theMovie.scalingMode = MPMovieScalingModeAspectFill; [theMovie play]; } But this just crashes the app when using this method inside it's own class, but is fine elsewhere. Does anyone know how to play video inside a view? and avoid it being full screen?
