• How to forward external port to internal port using plink

  For a penetration test where I have shell access to a computer running an old Windows, I'd like to forward port 4450 to 127.0.0.1:445 because the firewall is blocking 445 externally. I'm stuck on the following: plink -L 4450:127.0.0.1:445 SSH-Server According to the documentation I've found, I'd have to specify a SSH-Server. But all documentation I've found just uses an SSH-Server in the same network. To forward it to a localhost port, that wouldn't help. Do I have to install an SSH-Server on that machine or are there other ways?

• Cannot find log navigator buttons in Xcode version 3.2.6

  I'm completely new to the world of Xcode. Since my MacBook is too old for installing the newest Xcode version, I'm trying to learn with Xcode 3.2.6. Now I go through a book for learning Objective C with Xcode and I have problems to find several buttons. I already needed to let the green "Run"-button view manually via "customize toolbar", but the buttons to have access to the log navigator still do not appear and I don't know how to do it. That's how my Xcode looks like right now: That's what I'm searching: How can I view those buttons? Is there another way to access to the log navigator?

• What to look for in a good cheap color laser printer?

  My old color inkjet is giving up, and I'm considering laser to replace it. There are several good questions about color laser printers, but none of them summarize the pro's and con's. So here goes: I am looking to buy a color printer for home use, mostly for photos (at least medium-quality) and also for low-volume b/w text. Duplex would be neat but not a must. One aspect per answer, please: What aspects should I consider, what should I look for, what should I avoid in a home color laser printer? • b Is it bad to have the Reverse DNS for two IPs point to the same domain name?

  I am in the process of setting up a new server for my web application (the site will be moved, it is not for load balancing or the like), which has a different IP address from my existing server. My current server has a reverse DNS PTR record set up pointing its IP to mydomain.com. Is it bad to set up a reverse DNS PTR record for the new IP pointing to mydomain.com as well? Or should I wait until I do my migration to set up the record? Update: I forgot to mention, the A record for the mydomain.com points to the old server's IP address, not the new one, if it matters.

• Can I "reprogram" an American Express USB drive?

  I recently received a USB drive that looks like a credit card as a promotion. The drive portion flips out to plug it in. When you plug it in, it opens the run dialog, and opens a URL to an American Express web page. I was able to find it in the Device Manager: But I don't know what else to do? Is there a way I can convert this into a plain old USB drive? Or better yet, can I modify the command that it runs when inserted into a computer?

  I have a following version of CentOS: $ cat /etc/issue CentOS release 5.5 (Final) Kernel \r on an \m and following version of libxml: $ php -i | grep libxml libxml Version => 2.6.26 libxml libxml2 Version => 2.6.26 libxslt compiled against libxml Version => 2.6.26 and need to have newer version of libxml (primarly for usage in PHP, but obviously, it doesn't matter). If I even install the newer version of libxml somehow: wget ftp://xmlsoft.org/libxml2/libxml2-2.7.2.tar.gz tar -xvf libxml2-2.7.2.tar.gz cd libxml2-2.7.2 ./configure make sudo make install then I am unable to get it to work in PHP - there is still old version: libxml Version => 2.6.26 libxml libxml2 Version => 2.6.26 libxslt compiled against libxml Version => 2.6.26 What else do I need to do to make the new version to work with PHP?

• Windows Server 2008 R2 and Keyboards

  Hello, I have a machine with WIN server 2008 R2 installed, when the machine boots up, it says keyboard failure. The keyboard I had was from an older machine and was PS/2, I got a PS/2 to USB converter in order for it to work, but it says keyboard failure and doesn't work. Is it because it's pretty old and that's it, or does it have to be USB? I'm going to look into a new one, but want to make sure I don't get this issue again... Thanks.

• Should I replace libapache2-mod-php5-filter with libapache2-mod-php5 on Debian 6 Apache 2.2.16?

  Upgrading various virtual machines we are having an issue with the Debian package upgrade to version 2.2.16 The upgrade (surprisingly) seems to remove libapache2-mod-php5 replacing it with libapache2-mod-php5-filter. This gave us some headache as the php.ini was pointing to the "old" one and some of the apache.conf conditional module rules stopped working. We can fix all those but we can't figure out if there would be any issues if we just "reversed" this and simply install libapache2-mod-php5 again and load that module instead of the "filter" one or in there is anyway to "alias" a module. I tend to think that the change "has a reason" but after reading apache2 and php5: module or filter I understand the module differences are to do with post delivery security issues.

• Very large log files in IIS 7.x

  Hello, I had a site stop working today and when I RDP'd into the server I saw a warning about low disk space. The first thing I checked was the inetpub folder where the log files are stored and sure enough it was huge, 40 GB huge. I do clean the files monthly but what is causing a day's worth of logging on a medium activity site (www.vbdotnetforums.com) to create 300-500 MB log files? I do have everything being logged so my SmarterStats software gives me the most info, but are there specific things I should/can turn off that is causing the most growth in these log files? Also, sure would be nice if Microsoft someday had some sort of log file management such as deleting log files after they exceed a certain size (total), X days, etc. We all have to come up with some solution to delete the old ones manually. • SQL Server iSCSI session issue with a NetApp SAN

  We had an issue early this morning when iSCSI issues broke connectivity with a few of our databases (resulting in a SQL Server Error 21). Attempts to DBCC CheckDB did not work, and the only solution was to restart the SQL Service. Is there a known reason why an iSCSI initiator session would reset itself out of the blue? Example below from the NetApp syslog. This set of errors was replicated 4 times (once for each SQL server in production). Only one SQL server was noticeably impacted, however. I have Googled, and am a member of the Ubuntu Forums, but just figure it can't hurt to ask the Stack Overflow community for help as well. I plan on installing on an old laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad R61i or Toshiba Satellite A105). I have downloaded the latest Ubuntu (9.10) but don't know how to do any of the configurations. • Bash Script to Compress / Transfer / Remove Log Files

  I am currently using chronolog to set log file names for Apache with date. They are in the following format: /WEB/LOGS/APACHE_ACCESS_YYYY-MM-DD.log /WEB/LOGS/APACHE_ERROR_YYYY-MM-DD.log I would like to have a script that runs on the first of every month and compresses the log files from the previous month, transfers them to another host (via SCP) and then deletes the compressed file. find . -name '*.log' -mtime +1 -type f I've found several examples like the one above that allow you to select files x days old, but I need all files from the previous month. I am the first to admit my bash scripting skills are weak so would really appreciate any help and guidance.

  I'm looking for a new WiFi router, and one key feature for me is WOL. Seems like many routers won't do this w/ factory firmware. Given my last router (Asus WL-520g) turned into a disco-brick couple hours after flashed to dd-wrt I'd prefer if the new one supported WOL out-of-the-box. other required features would be: dyndns service support port forwarding sometimes it is called "virtual server" I guess NAT loopback so I can access services running in my own network using dyndns hostname or public IP w/o getting too old (for example DIR-615 with factory firmware lets you wait literally minutes) did I mention WiFi? preferably w/ some range extending technology, if such stuff works at all

  How to you move a part of an SVN repository into a new repository? To move the contents of a complete SVN repository into a new repository, one has to dump the old repository first: svnadmin dump /path/to/repository > repository-name.dmp and then load it into the new one using svnadmin load. But I'm not sure how to just move a part. Do I still have to dump the whole thing? Do I grep for the part that I want? To just dump myproject, I tried this, but it didn't work: svnadmin dump /path/to/repository/myproject

• Ideas for home media server with Dell laptop?

  Hi guys, We have an old Dell Inspiron laptop we don't use anymore and would look to turn it onto a media/backup server for music/pictures - and maybe documents/code. The laptop only has 40Gb of HD space but we can hook to it a USB external HD with an additional 80Gb. This is a very general question: - What OS should I put on it (more like, what flavor of Linux)? - What media/backup server software should I install on top of that? - How would you go about backing up to it? I need to back up computers on the same LAN, some have Windows, some OS X, some Linux. If you could point me to an all-in-one solution with a nice tutorial for non-sysadmin folks it would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!!

• Windows Server 2008 R2 and OSX 10.5/.6/.7, Search, Spotlight

  I'm handling a migration from a on old mac server to a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine running a 12TB(10 usable) RAID5 server. It's using an SMB share and now the OSX 10.5/.6 users can search sometimes it works but takes up to 10 minutes. The OSX 10.7 machine seems to be fine. I've looked in the root of the shared drive for a .Spotlight-V100 file (ls -a) but it doesn't seem to be there. mdutil says indexing is on for that volume and I have cleared the index using mdutil -E /Volumes/MeSharedVolume numerous times. Any ideas?

  Hi, I often find myself in the position of having to sniff on a connection between for example an arm board I am developing on, and another computer on the network, or out of the network. The easy situation is when I can install a sniffer on the computer talking to the embedded device. When it is not possible, I currently install an old 10Mb/s HUB. However I am afraid my HUB might stop working, and I would like to know some alternative. Here are the alternatives I could think of : Buy another HUB. Is that still possible ? Have some sort of ethernet sniffing bridge, like what they do for USB. I am afraid this kind of device is expensive. use ARP poisoning.

• Can't delete a directory on external drive (OS X)

  I have a brand new Transcend StoreJet 25M3 (external HDD) mounted to MacBook (Leopard 10.5.8) at /Volumes/Transcend. I copied some data from my old Windows (XP) machine on it, and now, after cleaning some stuff up, I wanted to delete some directories, but this is what happened: $ rmdir My\ Pictures/ rmdir: My Pictures/: Operation not permitted Using Finder just asks for password, but does not delete the directory (sound of "moved to Trash" is played). I thought it's some permission "thing", but: $ ls -l drwxrwxrwx 1 martin staff 32768 5 jan 16:11 My Pictures/ $ sudo rm -rf My\ Pictures rm: My Pictures: Operation not permitted I re-mounted, rebooted (thinking that there's some file lock), but that did not help. What might have happened here? How to delete it?

• Server 2003 - Default installation of SharePoint throws javascript error 'undefined' is null or not an object

  I have been handed a server that has a fresh installation of small business server 2003. SharePoint has been installed, and it is a completely fresh copy (no changes made) I know for a fact that everything was paid for so this isn't some dodgy copy. When I try to click any option in any of the floating menu's in IE 8, the browser asks me if I want to debug .. Error: 'undefined' is null or not an object for example, I got to Projects - and click on the sample project, then click delete on the floating menu that pops up and the error appears. This is brand new, I cannot believe I am having this problem! Has anyone come across this, is it an old problem with easy fix? All windows updates installed - see no updates for sharepoint? • Cloning hard drive -- data, operating system settings, everything

  I am using Windows XP. My hard drive (Seagate 160gig Barracuda) is about to fail. Its already developed bad sectors and it seems to get worse everyday. Data transfer mode is down to PIO mode 2, chkdsk runs every now and then, registry and important windows files get corrupted and I spend 30-60 minutes running chkdsk /f /r from the recovery console. I've got a replacement (Seagate 5000gig Barracuda) and now i want to transfer each and every thing on to the new drive. I don't want to go through windows and software installation, I spent ages getting all those software installed and configured on that hard drive. Need advice: whats the best way to transfer everything onto the new drive so that it behaves just like the old one. And are there any "gotchas".

• Logrotate Successful, original file goes back to original size

  Has anyone had any issues with logrotate before that causes a log file to get rotated and then go back to the same size it originally was? Crucial.com scan reports: "Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 2GB per slot. Maximum Memory Capacity:  12288MB Currently Installed Memory:  2GB Available Memory Slots:  2 Total Memory Slots:  6 Dual Channel Support:   No CPU Manufacturer:  GenuineIntel CPU Family:  Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz Model 4, Stepping 1 CPU Speed:  2793 MHz Installed in pairs of modules." We will be completely replacing the old 512 MB modules. Will there be any performance difference between installing 4 modules @ 1GB vs. 2 modules @ 2GB?

• IIS6 Front Page Extension: Set Reply-To in Webbot mailers

  We are running some old legacy IIS6 websites with frontpage extensions. The contact forms (using webbot frontpage extension) use the administrators email address as from address which is pretty cumbersome as our customers tend to click just reply in the requests they receive and we always get these mails and have to bother about them. How do you set a reply-to per webbot form? Or how do you set a from or reply-to globally per IIS6 vhost? In the HTML code it looks like this: <!--webbot bot="SaveResults" S-Email-Format="TEXT/PRE" S-Email-Address="[email protected]" ... --> But this is the recipient address. Additional question: Will it be sufficient to just change this code? Or do I need to apply settings elsewhere?

• IIS6 Permissions

  We have a set of IIS6 Jakarta/ASP.NET applications (implemented as virtual directories) on a machine without a domain. The directories all exist under the default website. We need to setup the permissions so that certain users can access only specific applications yet others users can access several of the applications. The way it's been setup previously has been to explicitly deny access to the users for every application except the ones that they are allowed to see. The problem is that the list of applications changes fairly often (for demos etc) and it's been known for the developers to forget to deny the old users access to the new applications which leads to security problems. This is all quite unmaintainable. Does anybody have any advice on this? Surely I can't be the only person to find this all a bit of a mess? Thanks
