  • Install of mod_proxy to get ProxyPass to work

    - by Lance Roberts
I've been trying to follow these instructions, so that I could get the Citadel mail server to work alongside Apache, but I get an error when I try to restart Apache: Invalid command 'ProxyPass', ... I was told in the Apache docs that this is from the mod_proxy module, but apt-get install mod_proxy gives E: Couldn't find package mod_proxy, and I was unable to find it on the big list on the Apache site. What do I need to do to get the ProxyPass working in Ubuntu 10.04 TLS?

  • How do I set up hosting a domain name at home with Apache?

    - by Andrew McIntyre
I am relatively new to Ubuntu Linux and I am struggling to figure out the basic set-up of hosting a domain name at home with Apache2. I understand that you have to change your IP from dynamic to a static IP Address but I am not sure how you achieve that step. I am looking for some assistance on this on how to enable self signing certificates, make the domain name resolve on the Internet from hosting the website on the web server, enabling protected directories and the basic commands of accessing the directory where the website files can be uploaded and available on the World Wide Web.

  • Oracle has some very helpful and free code...I think

    - by Casey
I found that some of the code that Oracle uses is very useful so I don't have to re-invent the wheel. • How do I trust an off site application

    - by Pieter
I need to implement something similar to a license server. This will have to be installed off site at the customers' location and needs to communicate with other applications at the customers' site (the applications that use the licenses) and an application running in our hosting center (for reporting and getting license information). My question is how to set this up in a way I can trust that: The license server is really our application and not something that just simulates it; and There is no "man in the middle" (i.e. a proxy or something that alters the traffic). The first thing I thought of was to use with client certificates and that would solve at least 2. However, what I'm worried about is that someone just decompiles (this is build in .NET) the license server, alters some logic and recompiles it. This would be hard to detect from both connecting applications. This doesn't have to be absolutely secure since we have a limited number of customers whom we have a trust relationship with. However, I do want to make it more difficult than a simple decompile/recompile of the license server. I primarily want to protect against an employee or nephew of the boss trying to be smart.

  • "Pointers" with $ Syntax in /etc/environment

    - by Tyson Trautmann
    Is it valid to have "pointers" in /etc/environment using $FOO syntax? Right now my /etc/environment looks like this: JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk MAVEN_HOME=/usr/bin/apache-maven/apache-maven-3.0.4 M2_HOME=$MAVEN_HOME M2=$MAVEN_HOME/bin PATH=/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:$JAVA_HOME/bin:$MAVEN_HOME/bin I'm not getting the results that I'm expecting though: ~$ echo $JAVA_HOME /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk ~$ echo $MAVEN_HOME /usr/bin/apache-maven/apache-maven-3.0.4 ~$ echo $PATH /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin/bin:/usr/games:$JAVA_HOME/bin:$MAVEN_HOME/bin

  • Rewriting URL for tomcat through an apache AJP connector.

    - by StudentKen
I've tried several attempts to resolve this, but all have come up naught. Currently I have apache setup to forward all urls at and past the /portal/ tag to tomcat. Unfortunately, tomcat receives these requests through /portal/appName, a subdirectory in webapps rather than the webapps root directory where my wars are deployed. Is there a simple solution to this that I'm not seeing? I've been trying to use mod_rewrite to ^/portal/ $ / but that doesn't yield the expected results (perhaps I'm doing this wrong?).

  • Software licensing template that gives room for restricting usage to certain industries/uses of software/source

    - by BSara
*Why this question is not a duplicate of the questions specified as such: I did not ask if there was a license that restricted specific uses and I did not ask if I could rewrite every line of any open source project. I asked very specifically: "Does there exist X? If not, can I Y with Z?". As far as I can tell, the two questions that were specified as duplicates do not answer my specific question. Please remove the duplicate status placed on the question. I'm developing some software that I would like to be "semi" open source. I would like to allow for anyone to use my software/source unless they are using the software/source for certain purposes. For example, I don't want to allow usage of the software/source if it is being used to create, distribute, view or otherwise support pornography, illegal purposes, etc. I'm no lawyer and couldn't ever hope to write a license myself nor do I have to time to figure how to best do this. My question is this: Does there exist a freely available license or a template for a license that I can use to license my software under they conditions explained above just like one can use the Creative Commons licenses? If not, am I allowed to just alter one of Creative Commons licenses to meet my needs?

  • Proxy Error 502 "Reason: Error reading from remote server" with Apache 2.2.3 (Debian) mod_proxy and Jetty 6.1.18

    - by Martin
Apache is receiving requests at port :80 and proxying them to Jetty at port :8080 The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server The proxy server could not handle the request GET /. My dilemma: Everything works fine normally (fast requests, few seconds or few tens of seconds long requests are processed ok). Problems occur when request processing takes long (few minutes?). If I issue request instead directly to Jetty at port :8080 the request is processed OK. So problem is likely to sit somewhere between Apache and Jetty where I am using mod_proxy. How to solve this? I have already tried some "tricks" related to KeepAlive settings, without luck. Here is my current configuration, any suggestions? #keepalive Off ## I have tried this, does not help #SetEnv force-proxy-request-1.0 1 ## I have tried this, does not help #SetEnv proxy-nokeepalive 1 ## I have tried this, does not help #SetEnv proxy-initial-not-pooled 1 ## I have tried this, does not help KeepAlive 20 ## I have tried this, does not help KeepAliveTimeout 600 ## I have tried this, does not help ProxyTimeout 600 ## I have tried this, does not help NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost _default_:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName www.mydomain.fi ServerAlias mydomain.fi mydomain.com mydomain www.mydomain.com ProxyRequests On ProxyVia On <Proxy *> Order deny, allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyRequests Off ProxyPass / http://www.mydomain.fi:8080/ retry=1 acquire=3000 timeout=600 ProxyPassReverse / http://www.mydomain.fi:8080/ RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{SERVER_NAME} !^www\.mydomain\.fi RewriteRule /(.*) http://www.mydomain.fi/$1 [redirect=301L] ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error.log # Possible values include: debug, info, notice, warn, error, crit, # alert, emerg. • CPU cores and workers / maxservers

    - by user80666
I'm trying to optimize my apache and nginx installations and have been looking for information on how to setup correct number or min/max servers and connections in Apache and worker processes in Nginx. I was wondering whether or not Apache and Nginx take advantage of multy core processors and how to set configuration in Apache and Nginx? For example, lets say I have a 4 core processor, should I set workers to 4 in nginx? what should I set spare server in apache to?

  • Correct way to sell commercial product with GPL small scripts in it

    - by Victor
I'm developing a commercial cms. I'm going to sell this cms. I use jQuery, also I use date and time picker jQuery plugin in my cms, I can say this is just a 1% of my big script, I don't want sell my whole program as GPL because of these two small integrations (jQuery and DateTime picker). Please ask on these questions: I'm worry about license issue. What is the best way to sell my product(licensing type)? Is there any way to provide some partial licenses? I mean just add small notification in my license that the jQuery and The DateTime picker is still in GPL, but other part of this CMS has commercial license? If there isn't any way to sell commercial product as close source with GPL small parts, what is the most strong license for selling my product to keep it safe? Please sorry for my English

  • A lot of 408 errors in apache logs - how to prevent them?

    - by Robert Grezan
I see a lot of 408 errors in my apache2 logs. I increased RequestReadTimeout and KeepAliveTimout but errors are still there. The errors look like this: xx.xx.xx.xx - - [05/Dec/2012:19:33:56 +0100] "-" 408 4561 "-" "-" xx.xx.xx.xx - - [05/Dec/2012:19:33:56 +0100] "-" 408 4561 "-" "-" I heard that these errors are related to Chrome optimization and some users did reported our site returning 408 internal error. It is interesting that we get two 408 error from same IP in sequence then it that IP start working.

  • Is an average RAM usage per Apache process of 43 MB "normal" for a Social Networking site? [closed]

    - by Programmer
I have a Social Networking site that runs on a single LAMP Server that handles everything. The average RAM usage per Apache process is 43 MB. Is that amount roughly within the expected range for a Social Networking site, or is it too high? If it's too high, where and how can I look to bring that average number down? (If you need more details to determine whether it's within the expected range or not, just let me know and I'll edit my question to provide them as best I can.)

  • How do I sell Oracle? It all starts with the database

    - by swiesner
Partner sales reps often ask me how they start a conversation with their customers around Oracle. The first question should be, "are you running an Oracle database?" Much of what we do at Oracle is intended to optimize our customers' investments in the Oracle database. Many of our acquisitions, new features in existing products, new applications, are often designed to improve the experience of the 400,000 Oracle database customers worldwide. Once you find an Oracle database customer, the next set of questions are much easier, but depend on your expertise: License Management, Upsell, and Services. Let's start with License Management: Have there been any changes to your infrastructure since you purchased the database licenses? Have you upgraded the servers on which the Oracle database is running? Have the number of users or employees increased since the last license purchase? Yes to any of these questions will lead to investigating correct licensing. The goal is to provide a "soft" license review. Oracle generally does not require any license keys to install our software, so we need to help our customers with compliance. Correct licensing is essential to managing costs, and can provide a great way to efficiently manage IT spend. You might want to contact your local Oracle Channel Manager or VAD for licensing assistance. Or, review the Software Investment Guide. Naturally, these questions can lead to upsell opportunities. If your customer has invested in Oracle technology to manage their data, that data is essential to running their business. We'll take a look at those upsell questions in a later blog post.

  • How do I configure apache to accept a client ssl certificate (if present) or authenticate using ldap (if the cert is absent)?

    - by jmwood051
I have an Apache server that serves up mercurial repositories and it currently authenticates using ldap credentials. I want to permit a single user (to start with) to use a SSL client certificate, with all remaining users still able to use the ldap credentials authentication method. I have looked through Stack Overflow and other wider (google) searches but can not find information/guidance on how to set this up.

  • Spring transaction : Transaction not active

    - by Videanu Adrian
i develop a app using struts2, spring 3.1, Jpa2 and Hibernate. From Spring i use transactions and IoC. so, i have an ajax code block that calls for a struts2 action every second (this is happening for every user that is logged into application (simultaneous users are around 20-30 at a time)). this action name is PopupAction public class PopupAction extends VActionBase implements ServletRequestAware { private static final long serialVersionUID = -293004532677112584L; private iIntermedService intermedService; private HttpServletRequest servletRequest; @Override public String execute() { Integer agentId = (Integer) session.get("USER_AGENT_ID"); Intermed iObj; try { iObj = intermedService.getIntermed(agentId,locationsString); } catch (Exception e) { logger.error("Cannot get Intermed!!! "+e.getMessage()); return ERROR; } return SUCCESS; } } and then i have the service class : @Transactional(readOnly=true) public class IntermedServiceImpl extends GenericIService<Intermed, Integer> implements iIntermedService { @Override public Intermed getIntermed (int agentId,String queueIds) throws Exception { Intermed intermedObj = null; //TODO - find a better implementation for this queueIds parameter!!!! try{ String sql = "SELECT i FROM bla bla bla.....)"; Query q = this.em.createQuery(sql); List<Intermed> iList = q.getResultList(); if (iList.size() == 1){ intermedObj = (Intermed) iList.get(0); //get latest object from DB em.refresh(intermedObj); } }catch(Exception e){ e.printStackTrace(); logger.error(e.getCause()+e.getMessage()); throw e; } return intermedObj; } } here is the spring configuration : <bean id="emfI" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean"> <property name="dataSource" ref="inboundDS" /> <property name="persistenceUnitName" value="I2PU"/> <!-- GlassFish load-time weaving setup --> <property name="loadTimeWeaver"> <bean class="org.springframework.instrument.classloading.glassfish.GlassFishLoadTimeWeaver"/> </property> </bean> <tx:annotation-driven transaction-manager="txManagerI" /> <tx:advice id="txManagerInboundAdvice" transaction-manager="txManagerI"> <tx:attributes> <tx:method name="*" rollback-for="java.lang.Exception"/> </tx:attributes> </tx:advice> I have names for transactionManager because i have 3 datasources and 3 transaction managers. the problem is that my glassfish logs are full of messages like these: -- removed in order to be able to add more recent logs -- So the cause is : Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Transaction not active. But i have no idea what can cause this. Any help ? thanks Updates So i have added to @Transactional annotation the transaction manager name that he has to use, but this still does not solved my problem. I have captured a log from the time that the transaction is created until i got that exception: 2012-02-08T15:08:55.954+0200|INFO||_ThreadID=184;_ThreadName=Thread-5;|DEBUG [thread-pool-1-80(80)] (AbstractBeanFactory.java:245) -
