• mdadm - Recovering a 'split' RAID1 array

  I have two drives that used to be part of a single RAID1 volume but it appears that one of them went offline for some time, something I've noticed just now when I rebooted my system. I now seem to have two RAID volumes, as reported by: # cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [raid10] md126 : active raid1 sdc[1] 2096116 blocks super 1.2 [2/1] [_U] md127 : active (auto-read-only) raid1 sdb[0] 2096116 blocks super 1.2 [2/1] [U_] unused devices: <none> Not exactly sure where to go from here. How can I merge and re-sync these volumes without data loss? Thanks.

• awk / sed script to remove text

  Hi, I am currently needed of way to programmatically remove some text from Makefiles that I am dealing with. Now the problem is that (for whatever reason) the makefiles are being generated with link commands of -l<full_path_to_library>/<library_name> when they should be generated with -l<library_name>. So what I need is a script to find all occurrences of -l/ and then remove up to and including the next /. Example of what I'm dealing with -l/home/user/path/to/boost/lib/boost_filesystem I need it to be -lboost_filesystem As could be imagined this is a stop gap measure until I fix the real problem (on the generation side) but in the meantime it would be a great help to me if this could work and I am not too good with my awk and sed. • Second monitor not detected

  Hi I have two VGA monitors, my GPU is ATI PowerColor 6850 which has two DVI slots, I use adapters for both VGA monitors. If I connect any the two monitors in the first slot it will work right away (along the plugin confirmation sound). And if I connect any of both monitors to the second slot I won't get anything, nor a signal or confirmation sound. I also tried auto detecting via Catalyst Control Center and Windows Desktop Resolution. I have the latest drivers installed. EDIT: I found this on the Spec Description: Display Connectors DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D And in NewEgg: 2 x DVI (1 Single Link, 1 Dual Link) Could this have anything to do with my issue?

• Transfer some information from 1 workbook to another plus 1

  I have 1 workbook with 4 sheets. Some of the information is auto entered from 1 sheet to another. I do not save when closing out. It is entered, printed and deleted. I need to get some of the information off those sheets to a seperate workbook that I save. Example: worksheet 1 info Name dob reason etc I am wondering if I can transfer that information to another sheet to be entered on row one and then the next one on row 2 and so on. Since I do not save the first workbook, will this work?

I can code in PHP (for example, write a module for Drupal) but never used any PHP framework for any project. • Windows 8 install shows NTFS partition but asks for driver

  I have an Asus Eee PC 900HA, and I tried to install Windows 8 on it, so I created a 56GB NTFS partition and booted install from USB When I get to install it, says "some drivers are missing", but when I click Explore button, I can see the NTFS partition. I have updated the BIOS to its lastest version in Asus Support, loaded setup defaults, downloaded all the drivers I saw there and put them into the USB, but keeps asking for drivers. The BIOS has no option for the HDD to be IDE or AHCI, only Auto, ARMD and CDROM are available. Thank you very much.

• Extracting RTD (Real Time Data) from Excel file

  Hi everyone. I have an Excel 2010 file containing auto-updating cells with RTD. Example of cell: =RTD("xxx";"yyy") I need to extract (in a .txt file) those cells' values, every X minutes. My .txt file MUST contain the updated value. I tried with a macro. That macro exports every X minutes a txt file of the Excel file. The problem is that when macro is running, cells doesn't update: the values remain the same of those before the macro was launched. It looks like macro forbids the updating. How can I do? Thank you.

• Corrupt mysql system tables

  I am having issues with the columns_priv table in the mysql system database. I cannot add new users currently. I have tried repairing it using mysqlcheck --auto-repair --all-databases --password but I get the following output: mysql.columns_priv Error : Incorrect file format 'columns_priv' error : Corrupt Is there any other way to repair this table, or how do I go about replacing it with a blank table? What would I lose by doing that? Thank you Edit (Additional Info) mysqld is currently using 100% cpu constantly. • boot failure trying to install linux distro from a cd

  Hoping someone can help me get this installation from a cd going. I'm using an older pc: hp pavillion 2.66Ghz, 512RAM with a BIOS revision of 6/30/2003. I reclaimed some an older drive (Seagate ST340810A) that seems to be working as its recognized in the bios (auto-detected) I downloaded a mini.iso of ubuntu 10.10 that I want to install and burned the image to a CD for install. My boot sequence is: First Boot Device [CDROM] and I disabled devices 2-4 so I can just force it to read first from the CDROM. This old pc also has a separate CD writer which is a Sec.Slave, so the Sec.Master is the Toshiba DVD/ROM DSM-171 drive where I placed the burned cd with the linux distro. So, with these settings I cannot get it to boot. I get the "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". Where do I go from here? Thanks.

• How to create a new public AMI for windows?

  I am trying to make a windows 2008 AMI that is a nice clean 64bit starter pack (IIS, SQL express, ASP.NET MVC, etc...) I would like to make it a public AMI when its done. There in lies the problem. I can make an AMI from my image no problem. But I can't seen to get new instances to generate their own passwords.. The results are that I have a new instance that works great with my password. So what is the process of making my EBS backed Instances convert into an AMI that will auto-generate its password and do all the other setup steps that amazon wants to go thru when a new instance starts up? • Why does my Mac address reset after reconnecting?

  I have ubuntu 12. I'm changing my mac address with ifconfig wlan0 hw ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx which works. However when I restart my connection my computer resets my mac to my original mac address. I'm guessing that this happens because something calls... ifconfig wlan0 down ... do something before connecting ifconfig wlan0 up ... connect to designated access point I want my mac address to however be the same no matter how many times I disconnect and reconnect, whether to another network or the same one. Also it would be nice to turn off the auto-connect feature for my network-manager with out having to edit each individual connection. Lastly I would like to know how to connect to a wifi network through the terminal and not via gui network manager ubuntu provides.

  An Ubuntu 9.04 box running Apache on 8080 and Varnish on 80. Recently set up Munin and was wondering why Apache graphs are empty. Saw from the logs that Munin is accessing /server-status?auto and getting 403 Forbidden back. So I edited /etc/apache2/monds-enabled/status.conf to allow access from 127.0.0.1. But doing this actually made /server-status public, since requests coming through Varnish appear to come from 127.0.0.1 too. So the question is, how do I configure mod_status to be accessible only by munin-node and not by Varnish?

• Why does OS X automatically logout my user?

  I have a new MacBook Air set up with filevault. In the Security preference pane I have "Require password 1 hour after sleep or screen saver begins" enabled, but the "Logout after 60 minutes of inactivity" is disabled. When I leave the computer on overnight I manually lock the screen (from the Keychain status menu bar, which I enabled via the Keychain Access preferences). Alas, in the morning I find that instead of a locked screen I see the login window, after my user was logged out with all applications terminated... (e.g. Firefox thinks it previously crashed when I launch it). This type of behavior only started after I enabled Filevault. Why is this happening? How do I prevent such auto-logout?

  Hi there. I've created a couple of shared templates (.xdp) which will be shared among several clients. Obviously, each client has their own logo and I'd like to set the logo upon form generation. I've managed to change the logo dynamically although I'm not sure if my approach is good. In the xml datasource I've got this element: <ClientID>SomeNumber</ClientId> In the form itself I set the image href with this javascript code: SomeHiddenTextField::calculate HeaderLogo.value.image.href = $record.ClientID + "_logo.jpg"; I've got the logos stored on the server in the same folder as the shared templates. Is this an alright approach to load logos dynamically? I've been trying to achieve the same dynamic behaviour with each client's footer fragment, but I have been unable to figure out how to load these on demand. I could make each footer fragment in to an image but I'd like to avoid it if possible.

• Ubuntu cannot access internet, LAN is fine

  I have an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server that is directly connected to our Comcast Business Gateway modem and I have configured it with 1 of our 5 allotted Static IPs. My other machines on our LAN can connect to this server (via ssh, web, ping, etc.) but I cannot access this server from outside our network, and this machine cannot get out to the internet either (ping google.com fails with unknown host). • AIDL based two way communication

  I have two apps between which I want some data exchanged. As they are running in different processes, so, I am using AIDL to communicate between them. Now, everything is happening really great in one direction (say my apps are A and B) i.e. data is being sent from A to B but, now I need to send some data from B to A. I noticed that we need to include the app with the AIDL in the build path of app where the AIDL method will be called. So in my case A includes B in its build path. For B to be able to send something to A, by that logic, B would need A in its build path. This would create a cycle. I am stuck at this point. And I cannot think of a work around this loop. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) . • dojo 1.4: difference in tree html rendering

  Hi, I have written an application using dojo 1.3 in which i have used the dijit tree. I am loading the tree with json data specified in the store which is in turn used by the tree model. In the 1.3 version the tree elements pick up the id directly from the json data.However in 1.4 the tree elements have their own id which is something like dijit__treenode_4. The id's that I have specified in json are unique and im not able to understand why these are not being used anymore. Please help me understand how this functionality has changed and how I can override the automatic id generation.. Thanks in advance, Fell

  I am working on an image generation script in PHP and have gotten it working two ways. One way is slow but uses a limited amount of memory, the second is much faster, but uses 6x the memory . There is no leakage in either script (as far as I can tell). In a limited benchmark, here is how they performed: -------------------------------------------- METHOD | TOTAL TIME | PEAK MEMORY | IMAGES -------------------------------------------- One | 65.626 | 540,036 | 200 Two | 20.207 | 3,269,600 | 200 -------------------------------------------- And here is the average of the previous numbers (if you don't want to do your own math): -------------------------------------------- METHOD | TOTAL TIME | PEAK MEMORY | IMAGES -------------------------------------------- One | 0.328 | 540,036 | 1 Two | 0.101 | 3,269,600 | 1 -------------------------------------------- Which method should I use and why? I anticipate this being used by a high volume of users, with each user making 10-20 requests to this script during a normal visit. I am leaning toward the faster method because though it uses more memory, it is for a 1/3 of the time and would reduce the number of concurrent requests.

  Is there an easier way to type apostrophes on the Droid X keyboard? I press and hold the period key, which brings up the little pallet of punctuation. But the apostrophe is inexplicably all the way over on the left. Can I move this closer to the right, where my thumb is while clicking and holding the period key? Alternately, can I somehow get an apostrophe on the overhead menu that appears when you type a space? This is the place where auto-correct goes, but when you type a space, it becomes a comma, exclamation point, question mark, etc. How can I get an apostrophe in this list?

  I know there are several similar questions on SO, I have used some of them to get this far. I am trying to list a set of urls that match my input values. I have a servlet which takes some input e.g. "aus" in the example below and returns some output using out.print() e.g. the two urls I have shown below. EXAMPLE Input: "aus" Output: [{"url":"http://dbpedia.org/resource/Stifel_Nicolaus"},{"url":"http://sempedia.org/ontology/object/Australia"}] Which is exactly what I want. I have seen that firebug doesn't seem to have anything in the response section despite having called out.print(jsonString); and it seems that out.print(jsonString); is working as expected which suggests that the variable 'jsonString' contains the expected values. • Verifying serialisation streams when used for messaging

  I want to add distributed messaging to some applications. One target would be embedded and the other applications would be running on Windows. I'm thinking of having a connection manager, to which all of the applications would connect and communicate. I only need some simple kind of RPC mechanism. I've looked at Google Protocol Buffers, but I don't really like the idea of code generation. I'd rather use serialisation and somehow verify the format of the serialised stream. I.e. Perhaps send metadata about what the stream would contain so that each endpoint can verify it is reading the correct version. Does anyone know of any examples of this? Perhaps the message format could be read from a file which all the applications read to verify the stream format?
