  • How to make a fun effective programming meetup that benefits both beginners and advanced coders.

    If you could organise your own programming meetup how would you organise the session so that people had fun learnt lots were able to participate despite their level. what kinds of topics, activities, challenges etc would you include (not all in one session but in general) how would you handle differing levels? what do you think are some important things to learn, to achieve?   • "Use windows xp style dpi scaling" disables automatic auto-hide of taskbar on W7. Workaround?

    We noticed that on W7 with DPI set to 125% or to 100% with ("Use windows xp style dpi scaling") turned off, our fullscreen mode (which sets the client rect of our window = desktop rect of the main monitor) no longer hides the task bar like it does for other settings. (The setting can be found in the Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display section after clicking on the "Set custom text size (DPI)" link) I found the following interesting article: http://www.mathies.com/weblog/?p=908 So I set out to try to work around the bug in other means than manually hiding/restoring the taskbar visibility but so far I've failed and currently believe it's a bug in W7 (and possibly vista). The following applications also fail to work properly in fullscreen mode (the taskbar is still visible): * Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 * Microsoft Word 2007 * Adobe Reader 9.1.3 These apps work (probably by hiding the task bar through the WIN32 API): * Powerpoint Slide Show I also tried creating a brand new MFC-based app and use its "SetFullScreenMode()" functionality but it fails in the same way as all other apps on the list.   • Automatic User Authentication Framework for Controllers in ASP.NET MVC?

    In rails I could do something like this to make sure a user is authenticated before accessing an action in the controller: before_filter :checked_logged_in, :only => [:edit, :update] I was wondering if ASP.NET MVC had something similar or if there was a framework out there that could essentially do something like the following: For certain methods with actions that take a certain parameter, I want to point the action to a method, check to see if the user owns that object, and if so, proceed to the controller action. If not, I want to redirect him to another action where I can show him he has invalid credentials. So basically I am looking for a sort of "before_filter." Anyone know of anything out there that can do this? Thanks!

  • Is it possible to disable the iPhone's automatic hyperlinks?

    We send out a notification email whenever we have "phishing" emails reported to us. In these emails, we include a copy-paste of the text inside the original phishing email as a sample of what is reported to us. Our code strips all hyperlinks out of the email via PHP, but still includes (in plain text) the link. When users receive this email in their client (Thunderbird, Outlook, Horde/IMP, etc), the hyperlink is removed. However, the iPhone likes to take web addresses in plain text and automatically turn them into hyperlinks. Is there any possible way to stop this action from happening via a HTML tag or by using PHP to replace certain parts of the hyperlink?

  • How can I create an automatic svn tagging script?

    I want to create a simple script that tags the latest revision to the tags folder, for example: for Trunk directory head revision 114, it will create a tag of this directory to the Tags directory which goes by the name "r114". I don't really care of what scripting language it'll use (as long as it runs on windows). I tried creating such script using SVN CLI tool, but it failed connecting to a SSL repository. How can I achieve that?

Take user data from my database and fill in and submit / post data to forms located on third part websites.: So I want to know if is it hard to create or do somebody knows if does exists some script for mass form submissions in PHP -Javascript-Ajax ? I run Dancers & Hostess & Model jobs website, I would like to find some script which allows the girls automaticly submit to hundreds websites forms (other 3rd part model agencies) with their similar model application form info on my website previously specified, 1).Firstly the girls will fill out my agency portfolio very detailed form , like this i will get all the model personal info from them , 2) Secondly i would like to allow for example models to submit to 100 and more other model agencies forms (I will find those websites before, and I will get their field names = values and thanks to some script would like to connect them with every girl data already created in my website to submit . I would like to implement it to my wordpress website where the girls has their portfolios instead of my pages . I would like to offer this service especially to models , it should work like some directory submitters , The script knows names - values and fill it out itself, but I want it online - browser side, where the girls should only fill out captcha if there is and click the button "submit".After succesful submit it should offer other form to submit. I would be very happy if you know the answer or if you can redirect me to some article

  • Stupid automatic assembly copy problem in Visual Studio 2008 - WTH am I doing wrong?

    My lazier side has apparently gotten the best of me. When I started to develop with .NET under VS2008 recently, I was very happy to see that all of the dependencies automagically got copied to my application's bin/debug folder upon compilation. This is fantastic. I never even bothered to look into how / why this is done. Yesterday, I decided to make another plugin very similar to an existing one, so I literally copied the folder and all of project files, then renamed the folder and manually edited the project files and file references. I also changed the assembly's GUID. Everything builds fine, but this particular assembly is never copied into my application's bin/debug folder. It is marked as a dependency of my app as well. What did I miss here?

    Can someone pls tell me do we have solic & unsolic message/events in MFC or window programming? In devices solic response and unsolic response is said as immediate response (like acknowledgement to commands) and late response (generated without any further commands being sent) respectively. Likewise can we say events as solic / unsolic based on immediate occurrence and late occurrence?

  • Are destructors of automatic objects invoked when terminate is called?

    I'm pondering a question on Brainbench. I actually realised that I could answer my question easily by compiling the code, but it's an interesting question nonetheless, so I'll ask the question anyway and answer it myself shortly. Take a look at this snippet: The question considers what happens when we throw from a destructor (which causes terminate() to be called). It's become clear to me by asking the question that the memory is indeed freed and the destructor is called, but, is this before or after throw is called from foo? Perhaps the issue here is that throw is used while the stack is unwinding that is the problem... Actually this is slightly confusing.
