    What I'm trying to do is this: XXX Some text here YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ZZZZZZZZZ Body body body Sidebar! Body body body Sidebar! Body body body Sidebar! X, Y, and Z are images (3 images total). Y can stretch along the X axis, and does so above, to fill the available space. (But doesn't cause "Some text here" to get squished and start breaking into multiple lines) I'd like to keep the "Some text here" part in one line. A line breaking here will not end happily. Is this possible, or should I simplify the layout around HTML?

  • Div's visibility with javascript - problem

    I am trying to use div's to display content on my page. This is controlled with an onchange element in a select menu. It works perfectly but the problem is I want one div to close when another one is opened. The div's open fine but it does not close the others. An example code is below. What am I doing wrong?     What is Logically correct and W3C valid way to clear float? zoom:1 is not valid by W3C and IE8 don't have hash layout problem overflow:hidden and overflow:hidden were not made to do this,as the spec intended overflow to be used <div class="clear"/> is not semantically correct and i don't want to add extra markup. clearfix hack generates content that really hasn’t any semantic value. I've asked many questions and read many articles on this issue but haven't find best way.

  • Span with white-space style in IE (7) applied _past_ end of span

    We've got an application where users can enter "notes" into a rich edit control (Telerik's RedEditor, but that doesn't matter here). We had a user enter notes from w/in Safari that had a <span></span> in the middle of the note, and that span had a style on it specifying white-space:pre The HTML of the note was in the form of: <div> This is a note <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre; "> </span> and here's more of the note. </div> Simple enough, the style should apply to the span, and the span had 4 spaces in it. There should have been 4 spaces in the resulting output. Here's the problem. IE seems to apply that white-space: pre; style not only to the span, but to the enclosing div! Therefore, this long line that should have wrapped since it's not in the span, now pushed the document out until the line fits on the page. What am I missing. I know IE has problems, but this doesn't seem right, even for IE. So, the question(s): 1) Am I correct that the white-space attribute should only have applied to the span? 2) Can this be resolved somehow? Remember, I'm not in control of the content being entered. And it's entered from a mac w/Safari and being viewed in IE. Edit: The doctype on the page in question is: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

  • Can I set a style for the content of an iframe from the main page?

    We have a page the embeds a Google Calendar in an iframe. Recently, a warning box div began appearing on the calendar that looks like this: <div id="warningBox" style="color:#aa0000;">Events from one or more calendars could not be shown here because you do not have the permission to view them.</div> Obviously the best solution here is to find the private events and remove them, but so far the search for those events has proved fruitless. This calendar is an aggregate of several calendars, including a few we don't control (ie weather). We're still looking, but in the meantime, I would like to try to hide that div. I know that iframes enforce the separation between the pages, such that the child page is pretty much a law unto itself. But surely there must be some way to set a style on an element inside the frame?

    I'm working on a website layout you can find at dev.movingcost.com In most browsers, everything seems fine... but I'm getting a horizontal scroll bar on the window when viewing the page in IE. I'm using a fixed width of 960px with auto margins to center the content. I've even tried using "overflow-x:hidden" on the html and body tags to no avail... any clue where the problem is?

  • Why is my web page left-aligned on iPad?

    I recently built a site and centered it using margin: 0 auto. I also wrapped elements in a .wrapper class with a width set to 960px and then had the parent element extend across the whole browser. When I view the Brands screen on an iPad though, the site is left-aligned and does not extend across the whole window. Any thoughts to why this might be happening, and how to correct it?   • Rendering inconsistencies in Internet Explorer

    Hello, I have some weird problem in rendering some xhtml in IE 8 http://img709.imageshack.us/i/scrj.png/. Here is the screenshot. As shown the greet me submit button is higher than the text field. Which is kind of odd. I checked with some other browsers and it works fine, it also works fine on Windows 7 with IE 8. I have a tooltip that shows the picture of the product when you hover the product name, for some reason it shows above the name, but under other elements, like lines and other product names. JSFiddle of the tooltip code here. And also how can I get the tooltip to appear in the middle? I tried right:50%; but guess that's not right. Thanks.
