  • Blackberry Development, communicating two Blackberry device in a multiplayer game programatically

    - by Nikesh Yadav
Hi Forum, We are developing a game application for Blackberry, which will have multi player option to let two or more player compete against each other. We have implemented the logic for that and already two or more player are able to play the game simultaneously on single device. Now we want to upgrade our application so that two or more user can compete each other playing from different device and different locations. Can anyone please help me by providing me the way (or code) to achieve this (communicating two blackberry devices over the air to access single session programmaticaly)? I found the code to connect two device using Bluetooth but as the player may situated in different geographic regions we need to achieve this using over the air connection. Thanks in advance. Thanks, Nikesh

  • How to invite users to connect to your application using Facebook Application Development interfaces

    - by rabashani
I think that this question already questioned, and probably the answer is here: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Notifications.send but the real problem is that facebook says: Facebook discontinued support for this method March 1, 2010. Calling this method returns error code 3 -- Unknown method. while, I couldn't find any other JS-api for the invitation, anyone know how we can invite users, using the JS api or the .net api? thanks.

  • iPhone Development - CLLocationManager vs. MapKit

    - by Mustafa
If i want to show userLocation on the map, and at the same time record the user's location, is it a good idea to add an observer to userLocation.location and record the locations, OR should i still use CLLocationManager for recording user location and use mapView.showUserLocation to show the user's current location (blue indicator)? I want to show the default blue indicator supported by the MapKit API. Also, here's a rough sample code: - (void)viewDidLoad { ... locationManager = [[CLLocationManager alloc] init]; locationManager.desiredAccuracy = kCLLocationAccuracyBest; locationManager.distanceFilter = DISTANCE_FILTER_VALUE; locationManager.delegate = self; [locationManager startUpdatingLocation]; myMapView.showUserLocation = YES; [myMapView addObserver:self forKeyPath:@"userLocation.location" options:0 context:nil]; ... } - (void)observeValueForKeyPath:(NSString *)keyPath ofObject:(id)object change:(NSDictionary *)change context:(void *)context { // Record the location information // ... } - (void)locationManager:(CLLocationManager *)manager didUpdateToLocation:(CLLocation *)newLocation fromLocation:(CLLocation *)oldLocation { NSLog(@"%s begins.", __FUNCTION__); // Make sure that the location returned has the desired accuracy if (newLocation.horizontalAccuracy <= manager.desiredAccuracy) return; // Record the location information // ... } Under the hood, i think MKMapView also uses CLLocationManager to get user's current location? So, will this create any problems because i believe both CLLocationManager and MapView will try to use same location services? Will there be any conflicts and lack of accurate/required or current data?

  • Entity Data Model & DataGridView - Creating new objects

    - by AcousticBoom
I'm pretty new to the EDM, so bear with me. I have a windows form that has a DataGridView on it that's bound from the EDM I created. I figured out how to update my changes fine, but it's when the user creates a new row that I'm having a problem. I tried numerous ways and many google searches, but came up with nothing so far. Here's how the data is loaded: Dim boilerID As Integer = DirectCast(ddlBoiler.SelectedValue, Integer) Dim countryID As Integer = DirectCast(ddlCountry.SelectedValue, Integer) Dim ratings = From r In _Context.Rating _ Where r.Boiler.Boiler_ID = boilerID _ And r.Country.Country_ID = countryID _ Order By r.Sequence _ Select r RatingBindingSource.DataSource = ratings.ToList() Also, all I'm doing to save the information right now is the following: Private Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSave.Click _Context.SaveChanges() End Sub I want the user to be able to use the grid's "new row" feature to add new items to the database instead of having to click a button and open a new dialog. How would this be accomplished? I can include some of the methods i tried for adding new items if anyone needs to see. Thanks!

  • wpf toolkit (Feb 2010) datagrid with MVVM - style reveals name of view model on 'spare column'

    - by Andy Clarke
Hi, I've just updated my app with the latest WPF toolkit and I've now got an issue with my styling. When I bind some data with, for example, two columns to the grid, the spare area at the right shows the name of the ViewModel in the header. I can understand why, because the data grids data context is the ViewModel and I'm defining my header style as follows ... <WpfToolkit:DataGridHeaderBorder <Border BorderBrush="Blue" BorderThickness="0,1,0,0"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding}" Margin="4,0,4,0" /> </Border> </WpfToolkit:DataGridHeaderBorder> Do I now need a separate style for the 'spare column' or something? Can anyone assist please? Cheers, Andy

  • Where can I find Object Model Documentation for Microsoft Expression Web Add-ins

    - by JonStonecash
I am working on an add-in for Microsoft Expression Web. I have gotten enough information on the web to know that I have to add references to Microsoft.Expression.Interop.WebDesigner, Microsoft.Expression.Interop.WebDesignerPage, and Microsoft.Expression.Interop.WebDesigner. The problem is that there does not seem to be any official documentation on the classes within these dll-s. There is even a Microsoft Connect issue about the lack of documentation. I have been using the object browser in Visual Studio 2008 and Reflector but that is pretty thin soup. Does anyone know where there is some reasonable documentation. I am not looking for a sample "hello world" implementation. I want some more substance and depth.

  • Using fields from an association (has_one) model with formtastic in rails

    - by subprime
I searched and tried a lot, but I can't accomplish it as I want.. so here's my problem. My models are: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :profile accepts_nested_attributes_for :profile end class Profile < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :user_id, :form, :title, :name, :surname, :street, :housenumber, :zipcode, :place, :phone, :mobile, :fax, :url belongs_to :user end In my view: <% semantic_form_for @user do |form| %> <%= form.inputs :login, :email, :password%> <% form.semantic_fields_for :profile do |profile| %> <%= profile.inputs %> <% end %> <%= form.buttons %> <% end %> My problem is that when I edit a person then it shows me the data on the profile. I would, that the fields from the profile even when creating a user are displayed. Thanks a lot!

  • Formtastic nested model form fields (Rails 3)

    - by elsurudo
    So here's the scenario: User: has_one :company accepts_nested_attributes_for :company Controller: @user = User.new @user.build_company View: <% semantic_form_for @user, :url => register_path do |form| %> <h2>User Information</h2> <%= form.inputs %> <h2>Company Information</h2> <% form.semantic_fields_for :company do |company| %> <%= company.inputs %> <% end %> <%= form.buttons %> <% end %> After scouring the web, this SEEMS like it should work. However, all I get are the user inputs. The "semantic_fields_for :company" block outputs nothing at all... Am I missing something here, or is this perhaps a Rails 3 bug to do with Formtastic?

  • Desktop Application Development with Javascript, Python / Ruby

    - by Chris
Hello, Besides using Appcelerator's Titanium Desktop, are there other approaches to integrating Javascript and Ruby/Python into cross-platform desktop applications? Just trying to get a sense of the landscape here. From searching the web, it seems Titanium may be leading the charge in terms of this type of integration. I wasn't able to find references that suggest you can do something similar in Adobe AIR. I am interested in building desktop applications that exploit Protovis and possibly other Javascript interactive vis packages for the UI. At the end of the day, I can go the web app route if need be, but being able to develop desktop apps is helpful. Would appreciate your perspective on this... Chris

  • Application development using google applications?

    - by Ali
Hi guys I'm developing a collaboration system and our team has been at it for the past couple of years. However the boss suggested that we try and redevelop it using something robust. Basically our collaboration system incorporates a webmail client and a custom built contacts management system plus project management system. My boss likes the robustness of GMAIL and Google docs and really would like a solution that if possible could incorporate these two and other google applications - I'm not so sure how to get started on developing a custom application using google applications - especially consider the fact that in the long run we wish to host our collaboration system as a paid service - just like the services that 37signals basecamp and highrise have been.

  • Replacing image in sprite - cocos2d game development of iphone

    - by sagar
I want to change the sprite image. Say for example. mainSprite=[Sprite spriteWithFile:@"redFile.png"]; [self addChild:mainSprite]; Here, Sprite is already added to a layer. I have mainSprite (pointer) which can access it. If I change [mainSprite setOpacity:150]; it works perfectly. But Here I want to change the sprite image instead of opacity. But Don't know how? Thanks in advance for helping me. Sagar

  • Agile Development - Developer Qualification required, and Disadvantages of

    - by Everyone
We have been using Agile on a project for 3 years now. Albeit I was new to scrum, it came to me easily enough. However we found it quite difficult to break any freshers into the scrumming process. One reason may have been that estimation for the future requires domain and technology depth that freshers lack. What, if any is the necessary qualification for a developer be part of an Agile team? What, in your experience, are drawbacks to Agile?

  • Tricky model inheritance - Django

    - by RadiantHex
Hi folks, I think this is a bit tricky, at least for me. :) So I have 4 models Person, Singer, Bassist and Ninja. Singer, Bassist and Ninja inherit from Person. The problem is that each Person can be any of its subclasses. e.g. A person can be a Singer and a Ninja. Another Person can be a Bassist and a Ninja. Another one can be all three. How should I organise my models? Help would be much appreciated!

  • generate only objectLayer of Entity Framework Model by edmgen tool

    - by loviji
How to generate only objectLayer by edmgen tool, without generating csdl, ssdl and views ? *"%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\edmgen.exe" /mode:fullgeneration /c:"Data Source=.\sqlexpress; Initial Catalog=uqs; Integrated Security=SSPI" /project:generateEntityModel /entitycontainer:uqsEntities /namespace:uqsModel /language:CSharp /outobjectlayer:"D:/uqsObjectLayer.cs" * in this script I don't write location to write csdl, ssdl and views , but they are generated in C:\Users\adminUser in windows Vista and objectLayer generated to D:/uqsObjectLayer.cs. If I use /mode:EntityClassGeneration, this option requires the /incsdl argument and either the /project argument or the /outobjectlayer argument. The /language argument is optional. But I don't want use csdl file. As I understand, edmgen.tool can not create objectlayer without csdl file. Now is there alternate way or tool for generating objectlayer from db?

  • Native Windows Application Development Options

    - by Michael Stum
Long winded title, short question: If one wants to develop for Windows but not have to rely on any external dependency (no runtime, thus ruling out .net), what supported, alive and fully functioning* alternatives are there? Visual Basic 6 is dead, Visual C++ is obvious and Delphi seems to be the prime choice for that, but I wonder if there are any other alternatives? *as in: Being able to use all the Windows Features like putting an icon in the Notification Area, making the Taskbar Icon flash etc.

  • Ruby on Rails has_one Model Not Supplying ID Column

    - by Metric Scantlings
    I have a legacy rails (version 1.2.3) app which runs without issue on a number of servers (not to mention my local environment). Deployed to its newest server, though, and I now get ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: Mysql::Error: #23000Column 'video_id' cannot be null errors. Below are the models/relationships, simplified: class Video < ActiveRecord::Base has_one(:user, :dependent => :destroy) end class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to(:video) end And below is a rails console transcript of the relationships failing: >> video = Video.create(:title => 'New Video') => #<Video:0xb6d5e31c>... >> video.id => 5 >> video.user = User.create(:name => 'Tester') ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: Mysql::Error: #23000Column 'video_id' cannot be null: INSERT INTO users (`name`, `video_id`) VALUES('Tester', NULL) from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/abstract_adapter.rb:128:in `log' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/mysql_adapter.rb:243:in `execute' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/mysql_adapter.rb:253:in `insert' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/base.rb:1811:in `create_without_callbacks' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/callbacks.rb:254:in `create_without_timestamps' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/timestamp.rb:39:in `create' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/base.rb:1789:in `create_or_update_without_callbacks' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/callbacks.rb:242:in `create_or_update' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/base.rb:1545:in `save_without_validation' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/validations.rb:752:in `save_without_transactions' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/transactions.rb:129:in `save' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/abstract/database_statements.rb:59:in `transaction' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/transactions.rb:95:in `transaction' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/transactions.rb:121:in `transaction' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/transactions.rb:129:in `save' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.15.3/lib/active_record/base.rb:451:in `create' from (irb):3 from :0 Has anyone else come across ActiveRecord not sending an ID when it clearly knows it?
