  • samba 3.5 "force user" doesn't seem to be sticking

    - by myCubeIsMyCell
After installing a new OS with newer version of samba, I'm having trouble accessing my shares. I can browse to the specific share, but only to the top level. As best I can tell from the logs, it seems the "force user" in the samba config isn't sticking beyond the initial connection. Details below. I installed a new version of CentOS on my storage server. My old CentOS (4?)install had samba version 3.0.33, new CentOS is using 3.5.10. No domain/AD involved ... just home workgroup. no real security... just some shares hidden & some defined as read-only. here's my config: [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP server string = Samba Server Version %v netbios name = luna security = share # logs split per machine log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m log level = 2 # max 50KB per log file, then rotate max log size = 50 winbind use default domain = Yes [strge] comment = please path = /storage browseable = yes read only = no force user = windowsguest force group = users guest ok = yes So... the problem I'm running into is that the 'force user' only seems to hold for the initial connection & I see all the top level folders fine. When I drill into a folder I get access denied - which appears to be due to my windows user info being sent (trys to authenticate xuser - a non-existant user to samba, so maps to nobody & fails). Here's the smb error msg: [2012/11/29 14:30:27.326195, 2] auth/auth.c:314(check_ntlm_password) check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [xuser] -> [xuser] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER [2012/11/29 14:30:27.326251, 2] auth/auth.c:314(check_ntlm_password) check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [nobody] -> [nobody] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER Most of the top level directories are 755, some 777. Either way, can not access them. If I do a chown -R windowsguest.users ... no change... but if I do a chmod -R to 777 or 755 they become browsable... but still can't create files (even for 777 ones). Not sure what role it plays if any... but had to recreate the user windowsguest under the new os install, uid & gid match old user. Seems the main issue as far as I can tell is that samba isn't maintaining the 'force user' - but I could be wildly off base. Client OS is win7 pro x64. Thanks for any suggestions or advice!

  • Millions of SYN_RECV connections, no DDoS

    - by ThomK
We have such server structure: reverse proxy (nginx) - worker (uwsgi) - postgresql / memcached. All servers are in local network behind router, with NATed external ip:ports (http/s 80/443 to proxy, and ssh 22 to all servers). Problem is, that sometimes proxy server netstat reports MILLIONS of SYN_RECV connections. From same IP / same ports. Like that: nginx ~ # netstat -n | grep 83.238.153.195 tcp 0 0 192.168.1.1:80 83.238.153.195:3107 SYN_RECV tcp 0 0 192.168.1.1:80 83.238.153.195:3107 SYN_RECV tcp 0 0 192.168.1.1:80 83.238.153.195:3107 SYN_RECV tcp 0 0 192.168.1.1:80 83.238.153.195:3107 SYN_RECV tcp 0 0 192.168.1.1:80 83.238.153.195:3107 SYN_RECV tcp 0 0 192.168.1.1:80 83.238.153.195:3107 SYN_RECV tcp 0 0 192.168.1.1:80 83.238.153.195:3107 SYN_RECV tcp 0 0 192.168.1.1:80 83.238.153.195:3107 SYN_RECV tcp 0 0 192.168.1.1:80 83.238.153.195:3107 SYN_RECV tcp 0 0 192.168.1.1:80 83.238.153.195:3107 SYN_RECV [...] And this is not DDoS, because all IPs affected belongs to our website users. On side note, users says that it's not affecting them. Website is online and working, but... that particular one (from example above) told me that website is down and Firefox can't connect. I've done tcpdump. 19:42:14.826011 IP 83.238.153.195.zephyr-srv > 192.168.1.1.http: Flags [S], seq 1845850583, win 65535, options [mss 1412,nop,wscale 0,nop,nop,sackOK], length 0 19:42:14.826042 IP • Where is the plugins directory for Turnkey Trac?

    - by Tomek
Hello, I setup a Turnkey Trac virtual machine and am trying to set up the LdapPlugin to use use authentication through a local Active Directory. I tried using easy_install http://trac-hacks.org/svn/ldapplugin/ to install it and it claimed to have completed, however when I go to the Admin page and go to plugins, it is not listed. I have never setup a Turnkey server like this before and was wondering in which directory the Trac plugins are located on the Turnkey-linux machine? Thanks, Tomek

  • OpenSSH does not accept public key?

    - by Bob
I've been trying to solve this for a while, but I'm admittedly quite stumped. I just started up a new server and was setting up OpenSSH to use key-based SSH logins, but I've run into quite a dilemma. All the guides are relatively similar, and I was following them closely (despite having done this once before). I triple checked my work to see if I would notice some obvious screw up - but nothing is apparent. As far as I can tell, I haven't done anything wrong (and I've checked very closely). If it's any help, on my end I'm using Cygwin and the server is running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. Anyways, here is the output (I've removed/censored some parts for privacy (primarily anything with my name, website, or its IP address), but I can assure you that nothing is wrong there): $ ssh user@host -v OpenSSH_5.9p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8r 8 Feb 2011 debug1: Connecting to host [ipaddress] port 22. debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /home/user/.ssh/id_rsa type 1 debug1: identity file /home/user/.ssh/id_rsa-cert type -1 debug1: identity file /home/user/.ssh/id_dsa type -1 debug1: identity file /home/user/.ssh/id_dsa-cert type -1 debug1: identity file /home/user/.ssh/id_ecdsa type -1 debug1: identity file /home/user/.ssh/id_ecdsa-cert type -1 debug1: Remote protocol version 2.0, remote software version OpenSSH_5.9p1 Debian-5ubuntu1 debug1: match: OpenSSH_5.9p1 Debian-5ubuntu1 pat OpenSSH* debug1: Enabling compatibility mode for protocol 2.0 debug1: Local version string SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.9 debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT received debug1: kex: server->client aes128-ctr hmac-md5 none debug1: kex: client->server aes128-ctr hmac-md5 none debug1: sending SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_INIT debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_REPLY debug1: Server host key: ECDSA 24:68:c3:d8:13:f8:61:94:f2:95:34:d1:e2:6d:e7:d7 debug1: Host 'host' is known and matches the ECDSA host key. debug1: Found key in /home/user/.ssh/known_hosts:2 debug1: ssh_ecdsa_verify: signature correct debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS received debug1: Roaming not allowed by server debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Offering RSA public key: /home/user/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /home/user/.ssh/id_dsa debug1: Trying private key: /home/user/.ssh/id_ecdsa debug1: No more authentication methods to try. • Networked filesystem with user level security for linux

    - by Konrads
Hi, I want to enable file sharing between servers and clients, both linux. I don't want to rely on machine trust like in NFSv4 because client users will have root privileges. What are my options besides SMB (SAMBA)? Does OpenAFS support user level authentication & access? Using mounted WebDAV/ftp/sshfs seems silly for LAN.

  • SQL Server Moved Active Directory Domain

    - by Ollie
I have changed the AD domain on a SQL Server 2008 box which was setup only for Windows Authentication. Now the domain has changed, I can't log into the SQL Server instance even as the domain's Administrator account. Is there a way of updating the server security settings without logging into the SQL instance first through a command switch / registry setting / etc..

  • Authenticate by libpam-mysql and libnss-mysql (CentOS)

    - by Chris
I'm trying to get MySQL to function as a backend for authenticating users on CentOS 6.3. So far I have successfully installed and configured libnss-mysql. I can test this by doing: # groups testuser testuser : sftp Testuser is a member of the sftp group in fact, all MySQL based useraccounts will be hardcoded to it. The sftp group is chrooted and forced to use internal-sftp so they cannot do anything but access their home directory. Then I configured pam-mysql and PAM to allow mysql logins. This also works.. When SELinux is not enforcing. When I do setenforce 1 users can no longer login. Error: Permission denied, please try again. This is my pam_mysql.conf file: users.host=localhost users.db_user=nss-pam-user users.db_passwd=*********** users.database=sftpusers users.table=users users.user_column=username users.password_column=password users.password_crypt=6 verbose=1 My /etc/pam.d/sshd: #%PAM-1.0 auth sufficient pam_sepermit.so auth include password-auth auth required pam_mysql.so config_file=/etc/pam_mysql.conf account sufficient pam_nologin.so account include password-auth account required pam_mysql.so config_file=/etc/pam_mysql.conf password include password-auth # pam_selinux.so close should be the first session rule session required pam_selinux.so close session required pam_loginuid.so # pam_selinux.so open should only be followed by sessions to be executed in the user context session required pam_selinux.so open env_params session optional pam_keyinit.so force revoke session include password-auth And to be complete the contents of some log files.. /var/logs/secure Nov 20 14:52:20 hostname unix_chkpwd[4891]: check pass; user unknown Nov 20 14:52:20 hostname unix_chkpwd[4891]: password check failed for user (testuser) Nov 20 14:52:20 hostname sshd[4880]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=192.168.10.107 user=testuser Nov 20 14:52:22 sftpusers sshd[4880]: Failed password for testuser from 192.168.10.107 port 51849 ssh2 /var/logs/audit/audit.log type=USER_AUTH msg=audit(1353420107.070:812): user pid=5285 uid=0 auid=500 ses=24 subj=unconfined_u:system_r:sshd_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 msg='op=pubkey acct="testuser" exe="/usr/sbin/sshd" hostname=? addr=192.168.10.107 terminal=ssh res=failed' type=USER_AUTH msg=audit(1353420112.312:813): user pid=5285 uid=0 auid=500 ses=24 subj=unconfined_u:system_r:sshd_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 msg='op=PAM:authentication acct="testuser" exe="/usr/sbin/sshd" hostname=192.168.10.107 addr=192.168.10.107 terminal=ssh res=failed' type=USER_AUTH msg=audit(1353420112.456:814): user pid=5285 uid=0 auid=500 ses=24 subj=unconfined_u:system_r:sshd_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 msg='op=password acct="testuser" exe="/usr/sbin/sshd" hostname=? addr=192.168.10.107 terminal=ssh res=failed' I tried to let audit2why explain the problem but it remains silent even though there are some errors. Does anyone see the problem? Thanks! EDIT: Turns out it's almost working with setenforce 0 I can mkdir foobar but if I do a single ls I get an error: Received message too long 16777216

  • Make Apache Ignore Domains on the Same Server (Ubuntu 9.10). How?

    - by vladikoff
Hello, I'm running Apache on Ubuntu 9.10. I want Apache to ignore certain domains on my server, and let other HTTP servers make full use of them. I've used mod_proxy and other Apache modules to configure the proxy/redirect to certain ports but sometimes that's too much work or doesn't work properly. Example: Server 00.00.000.000 domain1.com:80 - Apache domain2.com:80 - Apache domain3.com:80 - Webrick domain4.com:80 - Jetty Is this possible?

  • Installing OpenLDAP: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49)

    - by Arcturus
Hello. I've been trying to set up the OpenLDAP installed by default on Fedora 12, very unsuccessfully. My ultimate goal is to use LDAP authentication for user login and Apache, using the OpenLDAP server running on the same machine. The server is running, but the error I always get when I try to use ldapsearch or ldapadd is: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49) I've been following these tutorials, but none of them helped me: http://www.howtoforge.com/openldap_fedora7 http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/ref-guide/s1-ldap-quickstart.html http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_ldap_authentication http://docs.fedoraproject.org/deployment-guide/f12/en-US/html/s1-ldap-pam.html http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin24/quickstart.html First, some components were already installed, and I installed these with yum: yum install openldap-servers openldap-devel Then, I created a basic slapd.conf file in /etc/openldap: database bdb suffix "dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com" rootdn "cn=root,dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com" rootpw {SSHA}cxdz55ygPu4T3ykg7dgu+L0VRvsFSeom directory /var/lib/ldap/sniejana-sandbox.com I obtained the rootpw with this command: slappasswd -s changeme I also created the /var/lib/ldap/sniejana-sandbox.com directory and made sure the entire contents of /var/lib/ldap were owned by the ldap user. I found two ldap.conf files, one in /etc and one in /etc/openldap. I don't know which is the right one. If I understood correctly, this file is to configure the client. I put this in both: HOST localhost BASE dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com I then ran the server with: service slapd start It said OK. Most of the tutorials above say to use the command ldapsearch -D "cn=Manager,dc=my-domain,dc=com" -W to ensure that everything's working. When I execute this command, a password prompt appears, and after entering the password, I get the error. ldapsearch -D "cn=root,dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com" -W Enter LDAP password: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49) The same thing happens when trying to use ldapadd. I tried with an encrypted and unencrypted password in slapd.conf, it doesn't change anything. Adding a -x for simple authentication doesn't change anything either. netstat -ap confirms the server is listening: tcp 0 0 *:ldap *:* LISTEN 4148/slapd tcp 0 0 *:ldap *:* LISTEN 4148/slapd ps -ef|grep slapd confirms the process is running: ldap 4148 1 0 15:22 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/slapd -h ldap:/// -u ldap Running slaptest procudes config file testing succeeded. I read somewhere that the command ldapsearch -x -b '' -s base '(objectclass=*)' namingContext can confirm the server is running. It appears to work: # extended LDIF # # LDAPv3 # base <> with scope baseObject # filter: (objectclass=*) # requesting: namingContext # # dn: # search result search: 2 result: 0 Success # numResponses: 2 # numEntries: 1 I'm running out of ideas. Am I missing something obvious?

  • How do you set up SSL and Nginx Proxying?

    - by Jason Christa
I have Nginx listening to traffic on port 80 and proxying certain request to Apache over port 8080. I am going to set up Nginx to listen to port 443 for https traffic, but my question is how should the proxying be done now? Does the proxy to Apache need to be https or has Nginx already decoded it so I can keep sending it to Apache over port 8080. BTW, Apache is running with the least amount of modules installed possible and has currently has no SSL related modules, would I need to install any?

Can anybody please guide me how to download the sun studio from CLI. I was using wget and lynx programs but not worked. As I have only SSH access to my server and I cant not download it on local machine and upload it on server, will be bad option for me as it will take hours to upload. Sun Studio download requires registration + authentication. I have both but not sure how to include those options while downloading via CLI.

  • Using Google Analytics to track Usernames

    - by DrStalker
We have a SharePoint Installation (MOSS, IIS 7.0, Windows Authentication, Windows 2008) and Google Analytics has been installed to track site usage. The site is an intranet site, and all users are authenticated before gaining access. Is there any way in Google Analytics to track user information so we can see details of the login names of who is accessing content?
