  • How do I identify Blackberry / OWA users in my IIS logs?

    We just rolled out a Blackberry Express Server, and would like to make sure that all Blackberry devices that our users own are connecting SOLELY through the BES server. We are running Exchange 2010 SP1. I've read some links that discuss blocking BIS at the firewall level. Before doing that, however, I'd like to individually contact all users with Blackberries and make sure that they have a chance to switch to the BES server. I've sent a company-wide email, but unsurprisingly folks tend to tune these out until they are forced into action. Is there an easy way to identify the users with Blackberries by searching IIS logs, or perhaps using the Exchange Management Shell? Especially some automated way? I've tried searching for the Blackberry identifier, but it does not appear next to any user name, so it's not as helpful as it could be. Edit: to clarify, what I'm talking about is the fact that Blackberries can use OWA to download mail to the phone. We do not allow IMAP or POP access through our firewall so that's not a concern--just folks with Blackberries using Blackberry's hack to allow it to connect to Exchange without a BES server. As far as I know, Blackberries are the only popular phones that use this method to download mail.

    In times immemorial, back in the day when men were men and blackberries still took AA batteries, we rolled them out to our users for our 100 person operation. At that time, there was no such thing as address list lookups, so we were forced to hack a bit. The ingenious hack we came up with was to mirror the GAL as a public folder and then synch up blackberries to that. While there have been a few downsides here and there, they have been mere annoyances. And our users, having grown fat and prosperous in the intervening years, have been used to seeing every single employee and department here listed on their hand-held automatically. Alas, it appears that Outlook 2010 breaks this functionality as Blackberry desktop manager is completely incompatible with it. Moreover, this presents us with an opportunity to change things for the better given that public folders are going away next time we upgrade exchange. So, we are in search of a tool or technique that will allow us to mimic current functionality--that is to: Push an essentially arbitrary list of ~100 contacts to blackberry address books Said list shall be centrally updated Without requiring desktop manager or exchange public folders.     Although there are Office 2013 settings to change how encryption is performed, when you encrypt Open XML Format files (.docx, .xslx, .pptx, and so on) the default values — AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), 128-bit key length, SHA1, and CBC (cipher block chaining) — provide strong encryption and should be fine for most organizations.   • Best Practices for adding Exchange Archive to current 3 server setup

    I'm looking to add an Archive Database (which I know is just a Mailbox Database) to our current Exchange 2010 environment. I have done this in the past at a previous job, but we had a simpler setup than at this current job. I've been trying to find some best practices to make sure it's setup in an ideal way, but so far not finding the details I would prefer. Hoping someone on here can give me a few pointers. Currently we have a 3 server setup, Server1, Server2 and Server3. Three databases of course, DB1, DB2 and DB3. We have a DAG setup between them. Server1 has DB1 and DB3 on it, DB1 is not active, DB3 is active. Server2 has DB1 and DB2 on it, both are active. Server3 has DB2 and DB3 on it, both are not active. All three servers are virtual (VMware). Each one is setup identical to the other as follows: C:\ 60GB - OS E:\ 600GB - DB (currently only 90GB used, pointing to Datastore just for Server2) F:\ 200GB - Log (2GB used, pointing to same Datastore as above) G:\ 200GB - Restore (0 used, pointing to same Datastore as above) The drives are all set to Thin Provisioning, and it looks as though I have 600GB of available space. They have not been on Exchange that long and only have about 70GB worth of PSTs to import back in that will be going to the Archive Database, plus anything older than 2 years from their current inbox that will be moved into there. I was considering placing the Archive DB on the E:\ drive of Server3 (only) like the current DB, but wasn't sure if that was acceptable. I don't plan on setting the Archive DB up with the DAG, just plan on having it as a single repository for older emails and manually back it up every now and then. If anyone has any suggestions on this I would appreciate it the input. I've done it on a slightly smaller scale before and it worked well, but like to think it through before pulling the trigger, especially at a new job. :) Thanks again!

  • MS Excel 2010 - Using DSN + 32 bit drivers

    I need some advice as im running into a problem and so far i have been unable to find a solution. We have a set of reports developed in MS Excel that use DSN file to connect to data sources to retrieve data, these work fine on 32 / 64bit systems, however we are moving to a terminal server environment using windows 2008 R2 64Bit. The reports fail to run using the DSN's within this environment if we only have the 32bit drivers installed and configured in the ODBC settings, the minute we install the 64Bit drivers the software works. Is there a way / Method of getting Excel or the DSN file to NOT use the 64Bit driver, but force it to use the 32bit driver. ANSWERED - But due to low user score i cannot "answer" my own question... Sadly there is no way to-do what i want to-do, without a lot of very nasty and not 100% perfect reg hacks.   • MySQL ADO.NET Connector & MSSQL Integration Services

    Here I am, day three... attempting to sync a data view on a Windows Vista box (64 bit) running MSSQL 2012 and Visual Studio 2010. Sanity is slipping and hunger for progress fills my attention. I went through hell trying to get the MySQL ODBC drivers to get the job but to no avail...everyone seems to be lost and all the threads I can find are solutions that do not work for me. The problem: System DSN's not being seen by SSIS. SSIS DSN Not Showing as ODBC Data Source I make the decision to try out the ADO.NET connector...and to my surprise it is actually in the selection list in data sources in SSIS. So I take off running to create a Data Flow Task, create an ADO.NET Source (a local MSSQL DB)...all is good as usual. Then I move swiftly to creating a ADO.NET Destination, enter my credentials...wow, I am selecting a database finally on my linux server! Happy thinking that I finally have figured a way to get the job done. Then I move to mappings...nope, something is wrong...I am getting an error that hurts my eyes: Pipeline component has returned HRESULT error code 0xC0208457 from a a method call. Error at Data Flow Task [ADO NET Destination [81]]: Failed to get properties of external columns. The table name you entered may not exist or you do not have SELECT permission on the table object and an alternative attempt to get column properties through connection has failed. Detailed error messages are" You have an error in your SQL syntax check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near "database".tablename" at line 1. The descriptor files on path C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DTS\ProviderDescriptors\ does not contain schema information for connection of type MySQL.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnection. So it looks like it can't the information and therefore I cannot map the tables properly. Any ideas on this would be ultra helpful...thanks in advance to All!

    When SQL Server builds a fulltext index computer resources are consumed (IO/Memory/CPU) Similarly when you perform full text searches, resources are consumed. How can I get a gauge over a 24 hour period of the exact amount of CPU and IO(reads/writes) that fulltext is responsible for, in relation to global SQL Server resource usage. Are there any perfmon counters, DMVs or profiler traces I can use to help answer this question?

  • Users getting 'flooded' with not read notifications (NRNs) for old emails and meeting requests

    I'm being placed under quite a lot of pressure from senior management over a relatively trivial issue. Basically the vast majority of users are complaining that they receive not read notifications (NRNs) for old emails and meeting requests in large numbers multiple times a day. I know something strange is happening because some are delivered at silly times in the morning (i.e 3AM or 4AM). The problem I have is that these some of these NRNs are from meeting requests and messages that are 120 days old, so some users have deleted the original message so I don’t actually know if the NRN is from an email or meeting request.   • Change Outlook's default calendar to iCloud (meeting requests end up in wrong calendar)

    Following scenario: I've got a main computer (Windows 7, Office 2010) which is being used to manage contacts, meetings, etc. using Outlook. Now I've added an iPad and an iPhone to sync using iCloud. I moved all appointments and contacts from the old PST file to the iCloud file. All the data syncs nicely. The email account I'm using in Outlook is an IMAP account which opens up another data file which brings us to a total of three data files in Outlook's side bar. The problem: When one of our clients sends us meeting requests via email they show up in the IMAP's inbox. When we open them up they automatically get added to Outlook's default calendar (the one in the original PST). Is there any chance not to add them to that calendar but the iCloud one? Basically we could completely get rid of the original PST since we don't use it at all anymore but the settings do not allow me to remove this PST file and set the iCloud one as default. Thanks!

  • VBA Solution to VLOOKUP with Hyperlinks

    I am looking for some help with a VBA solution for preserving hyperlinks when using VLOOKUP on Excel (2010). I have a load of data on Sheet 1 for internal use only, and a cut-down version of this on Sheet 2. Instead of recreating Sheet 2 everytime, I am looking to have a working version which updates everytime Sheet1 is updated. Thus, I have used VLOOKUP on Sheet 2 so that only the desired info is returned on sheet 2. However, the problem was that sheet 1 contained in many cells Hyperlinks to external websites, and this would not pull through to Sheet2 using VLOOKUP. With some help, however, using the following VBA solution the hyperlinks now pull through: Function GetHyperLink(r As Range) As String If r.Hyperlinks.Count Then GetHyperLink = r.Hyperlinks(1).Address End If End Function And I am using the following formula in the relevant cell(s) in Sheet2: =HYPERLINK(GetHyperLink(INDEX('Sheet 1'!$B$1:$B$10001,MATCH(A4,'Sheet 1'!$A$1:$A$10001,0))),(VLOOKUP(A4,'Sheet 1'!$A$1:$B$10001,2,FALSE))) However, the problem is with formatting: every cell on Sheet2 is formatted blue and underlined, even although some of them do not contain a hyperlink! So, I thought a simple regular expression replace in NotePad++ should be like {span style="display:none"}[(.)]{/span} but, this is not working. Thank for your help!

  • Exchange emails not delivering for one user

    We have an Exchange infrastructure going through a migration from 2003 SP2 (call it ExOld) to 2010 (ExNew). All users are now on the new server, but mail is still being directed to ExOld until testing is complete. ExNew sends emails directly to the internet. For one particular user, emails don't seem to be being reliably delivered, but the odd thing is that it's not all emails. I can see external emails in his inbox. If I send an internal email it works fine. If I send an email from Gmail to him it doesn't get through. If I telnet from outside to ExOld I can send an email to him. If I telnet from outside to ExNew I can send an email to him.   • Could 0x800CCC0E in Outlook be caused by bad wireless connection?

    I have a computer connected to a WiFi access point/router/modem. Sometimes, I get page not found errors and similar when opening a browser window, sometimes pings fail and it looks like the router's signal isn't very good. On the other hand, I get around 4 bars of signal strength in windows and graph looks good in Inssider. I also never get dropped connection to the router. My main problem is that I often get errors (such as 0x800CCC0E) in Outlook 2010 that after some searching appear to be connected to bad server connection. I'm using GMail over IMAP and all settings are correct. I didn't have similar errors on my previous router, but I'm not 100% sure that they appeared after switching to current one. It may have worked for some time without errors. There are also around 3000 messages on the server and the size of mailbox is around 12 GiB, which may contribute to the problems. On the other hand, there are at least 24 other networks in the 2.4 GHz range which I'm using and the number may have increased since I switched routers. Should I try solving this by getting a router with stronger signal?

I have read that this is possible through indexing, but to get through the indexing steps I need to make files available offline. This network drive I speak of has about 2tb of files on it. How in the heck can I keep all this straight. I imagine there would be syncing errors everywhere if I were to make all of these files available offline. Not to mention not all files being current due to the large amounts of files. Anyone have suggestions?

  • Exchange migration: ExchangeTransport warnings after uninstalling source server

    After disabling/uninstalling Exchange from our source SBS2003 server, I'm getting these warnings: Event 5020 "The topology doesn't contain a route to Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003 sourceserver.domain.local in Routing Group [...]" Event 5006 "Cannot find route to Mailbox Server CN=SOURCESERVER [...] for store CN=[...]", for Public folder, First storage group and Recovery storage group. I followed the technet article here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb288905.aspx (linked from the SBS 2003 - 2011 migration guide). When uninstalling Exchange, I got a warning about NNTP not being found in the registry, but that didn't seem relevant, and the uninstall continued. The server was subsequently removed from the domain and shut down, as per the instructions. If I open the Public Folder Management console on the Exchange 2010 server, the public folders \NON_IPM_SUBTREE\EFORMS_REGISTRY and \Archived mails gives an error on "Update content". I haven't found anything else which indicates something is wrong. We never really used the public folders on the old server, so there isn't really anything lost. Can I just remove these folders and let them be created anew?

  • troubleshooting postifx -> exchange connection issues

    I have three linux-based mail routers that run postfix and relay mail to our on-premise exchange server as well as to outlook.com, splitting the mail based on ldap atttributes. What I've observed sporadically since upgrading this spring from Exchange 2007 to 2010 is that all three of the mail relays will, for about 20 minutes, fail to connect to exchange. Postfix logs it as "lost connection with exchange.contosso.edu" ; this problem almost always occurs to all three mail relays at the same time, and lasts for slightly under 20 minutes. If I can catch it while it's occuring, and I manually do "telnet exchange.contosso.edu 25" from one mail relay and force a message through (helo, mail from, rcpt to, data, etc), then it clears that relay up. The exchange "server" is actually two machines with the HT role on them, load balanced via windows NLB. I've worked pretty hard to figure out what's happening from the postfix side and I can't see any evidence of any misbehavior. My question is, how do I attack the problem from the exchange side? Is there a connection log, or a debug setting, or something I can do to log all of the inbound connections and tell me what's causing exchange to drop them?

    Hello, I was searching for a long time a Linux Live USB that I can boot my macbook pro from. Is there such distro so I can install it on Snow Leopard or Windows 7? UPDATE I've found this: "isohybrid" CD images (..) are special in that as well as the normal CD-based ISO9660 filesystem they also contain a valid-looking DOS-style partition table. Thus, if you simply copy one of these images raw to a USB stick a normal PC BIOS will boot the image directly. (...) Finally: I'd like to add support into xorriso for creating the nasty HFS hybrid images that are needed for booting Macs. The code that does this in cdrkit is probably some of the worst that I've ever worked with, and I'd like to get away from it.
