• Oracle Master Data Management at OOW 2012: A Look Back

Special thanks to our customers and partners for presenting with us, sharing their use cases and successes as well as co-sponsoring events.  Almost every session at the show featured a customer and the tremendous success or transformation Oracle MDM resulted in at their organization.  At the DemoGrounds, Oracle MDM saw tremendous interest with many individuals enquiring to see demos, and have their technical questions answered.  The demos provided a perfect opportunity to showcase technical enhancements as well as what features are on the horizon.The MDM customer appreciation dinner event was a smashing success as cusotmers and partners enjoyed a spectacular water view, fine dining and cocktails and one of San Francisco's finest restaurants - The Water Bar.  In a short while the planning for next year's OpenWorld will be under full swing and we can't wait to get started.  See you at OOW 2013!!

• How do I recover when Compiz crashes?

  Often compiz will crash and leave the keyboard useless. Normally I drop to the console and restart GDM. Is there a solution where I can start Compiz back up without losing everything in the current session? compiz --replace & That's how I usually restart Compiz when it crashes and I can still use the keyboard. • Is there an open source solution that I can host on a web server that will allow users to anonymously upload a file to me?

  I'm looking for some kind of web application I can host on my Linux web server that will allow users to upload files of arbitrary size to me from their browser without requiring them to log in. Ideally this application would allow me to generate a link to my website that allowed for a one-time use upload. It might contain a unique, random key that was only good for that session. I could email them the link, they click it and are taken to a page where they can upload their file to me. I'm mainly targeting friends and family that need to send me files that are too large for email. I don't want to require them to install anything (dropbox), sign up and log in, etc. I'm definitely not teaching them to use FTP. This wouldn't be a difficult project for me to roll on my own but I'd like to take something off the shelf if it is possible. Does anything like this exist that my google-foo isn't turning up?

• How to work around the home directory changing to /root when using sudo?

  Hello everybody! With Natty coming out soon, I've been at work updating my deployment and self-config script to make my desktop on 11.04 run and look the way I want it to. One bummer is that dbus seems to have changed and does not permit, in the same manner Lucid and Maverick did, the authentication of the current user by terminal call using grep and cat. Ideally, to run the script, I would sudo -s and then launch it as # chmod +x install && ./install Instead of returning my user name.. it now returns root and applies changes to the root profile and aborts whenever paths do not correspond. • GUI won't load, but the desktop background loads. Can't access the terminal

  Having trouble with the Ubuntu GUI. I can log in just fine (see this)... everything looks normal there. But as soon as I put in my password, I get this. I tried a few different troubleshooting keyboard commands (ctrl+alt+t, crtl+alt+delete), and only the latter worked. I can interact with that window just fine, except I am unable to resize or move it. The first time I logged in, I got a dialog box that said, "Ubuntu has experienced an internal error. Send error report?" Doesn't say anything now. Yes I tried restarting it. Thanks a bunch, Michael EDIT: Trying to start a guest session leads to the same problem.

  When I sent a proposal for session "Managing and Troubleshooting MySQL for Oracle DBAs" to MySQL Connect conference org committee it had not any mention of Oracle in its name, but later I was asked to provide more details for former Oracle DBAs who want to use MySQL. I was fast and I said "yes".So my original aim to teach people to troubleshoot MySQL changed to teaching of how different is MySQL from Oracle in troubleshooting aspects. Although both RDBMs have very much in common they are definitely very different. So what I am going to speak about this time is nuances of how MySQL stores data, how it manages locks, why its high availability solutions: MySQL Cluster and Replication have same names as Oracle's, but work differently and more. And, of course, I will tell how to troubleshoot it all.

  In this link Google defines a Visit. The key part that interests me now, is this: "If a user is inactive on your site for 30 minutes or more, any future activity will be attributed to a new session." Would an idle user (e.g. an employee whose PC is left on over the weekend) record "activity" as a result of the w3wp.exe process recycling? Our site caching model refreshes every 30 minutes. Could this trigger "activity" for an idle user? I've asked this on the Google Analytics forum a week ago and no response.

• Windows Embedded Compact 7 in Padua

  Yesterday I did a presentation about Windows CE at the University of Padua Even if the picture seems to suggest that I just showed and empty slide, I illustrated the new features of the OS and did a quick demo of Silverlight for Windows Embedded on Windows Embedded Compact 7 (I’ve to get used to this new name), showing the new tools that provide a better integration between Expression Blend and Visual Studio for the development of Silverlight applications (I hope to be able to write more on this topic soon!). The Operating System was running on some real hardware (TI OMAP3530 evaluation board) and many people had a chance to interact with the new customizable shell. Most of the 60 people attending were still awake at the end of the one hour and a half session, and some of them even asked questions! I would like to thank all the people attending and all the people of Arrow, Fortech Embedded Labs and the University of Padua that made this event possible and provide me the tool and the time to do this presentation. • What to do about this gnome-keyring message?

  I upgraded from ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04 and installed lxde. Since then whenever I try to print some file (or use command lpstat), I get this message on the terminal: "WARNING: gnome-keyring:: couldn't connect to: /tmp/keyring-SZ59jJ/pkcs11: No such file or directory". This is beyond my knowledge and from search I only realize that this mey be related to security (as learned from gnome-keyring on wikipedia). I have no idea what to about this warning. Can anybody please suggest? Evidently as stated, I am not using gnome desktop, I choose lxde session at the time of logging in.

• Four monitor setup with two Nvidia graphics cards

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and I have two nVidia quadro 2000 video cards, each with two monitors plugged in (all 4 monitors are identical). Now I have the latest nVidia drivers, and I'm trying to use the nVidia control panel to use all four monitors, and I can't get it to work. Currently, my configuration is using TwinView to have 2 monitors per X screen. This doesn't work well because either i turn xinerama on, and nothing appears on the screen when I start a X session with Compiz enabled. Things only work in Ubuntu 2D. i turn xinerama off, and compiz works, but now, I cant drag windows between the two screens and i have no idea how to start applications in the other screen. Is there a better way to configure my four monitor setup? Is there a way to get both GPUs onto a single X screen?

• Is it possible to use two different shells for different terminal windows?

  Is it possible to use another shell for scripts than for standard terminal use? The problem is, i use fish as shell at the moment and i find i very convenient. But i would like to learn a bit of shell programming in Ubuntu. Since there are differences between those two it would be nice, to work with fish and bash at the same time, perhaps in different terminal windows? i know i can write a shell script and have to put the interpreter in the beginning. But for testing developing at commandline i would find it useful to fast switch between shells or use two different terminal windows with different shells in one session at the same time?

• Acer sound card

  Hi I have an acer aspire on a recent upgrade somehow it loaded dummy output into upper memory so every time I boot up I have to manually load my sound card. using sudo /sbin/alsa reload then alsamixer and f6 to change to my proper sound card. How do I go about making that my default sound card loading on boot every time. sometimes the message comes up cannot find alsamixer, if that happens I have to run the following command sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload and then alsamixer. That works only on current session I would like to get that so it boots without coming up with dummy output. anyone out there know what the command is to make that load to boot section?
