• Strange problem with Google App Engine Java Mail

  Hi, I'm using the MailService feature of Google App Engine in my application. It works fine in one application without any issues. But the same code doesn't work in another app. I'm not able to figure it out. Please help. The mail is not sent. At times I get the following error after the above statement is printed (and the mail is not sent). com.google.appengine.repackaged.com.google.common.base.internal.Finalizer getInheritableThreadLocalsField: Couldn't access Thread.inheritableThreadLocals. Reference finalizer threads will inherit thread local values. But the mail quota usage keeps increasing. Remember, this works fine in one application, but not in other. I'm using the same set of email addresses in both the apps (for from and to). I'm really stuck with this. Appreciate any help. Thank you. Velu

• Doing XML extracts with XSLT without having to read the whole DOM tree into memory?

  I have a situation where I want to extract some information from some very large but regular XML files (just had to do it with a 500 Mb file), and where XSLT would be perfect. Unfortunately those XSLT implementations I am aware of (except the most expensive version of Saxon) does not support only having the necessary part of the DOM read in but reads in the whole tree. This cause the computer to swap to death. The XPath in question is //m/e[contains(.,'foobar') so it is essentially just a grep. Is there an XSLT implementation which can do this? Or an XSLT implementation which given suitable "advice" can do this trick of pruning away the parts in memory which will not be needed again? I'd prefer a Java implementation but both Windows and Linux are viable native platforms. EDIT: It appears that STX may be what I am looking for (I can live with another transformation language), and that Joost is an implementation hereof. Any experiences? EDIT: I found that Saxon 6.5.4 with -Xmx1500m could load my XML, so this allowed me to use my XPaths right now. This is just a lucky stroke so I'd still like to solve this generically - this means scriptable which in turn means no handcrafted Java filtering first. EDIT: Oh, by the way. This is a log file very similar to what is generated by the log4j XMLLayout. The reason for XML is to be able to do exactly this, namely do queries on the log. This is the initial try, hence the simple question. Later I'd like to be able to ask more complex questions - therefore I'd like the query language to be able to handle the input file.

  Hi I'm new to all this. I have been trying to display fetched emails in a JTable using the JavaMail add-on. However when I ask the program to set the value it never does. I have been working in NetBeans if that is any help? the fetchMail class finds all may on a server. The gui class is used to display all emails in a table as well as creating mail. You will probably think that I have tried it like a bull in a china shop, I am new to Java and trying to give myself a challenge. • Accidentally deleted symlink libc.so.6 in CentOS 6.4. How to get sudo privilege to re-create it?

  I accidentally deleted the symbol link /lib64/libc.so.6 - /lib64/libc-2.12.so with $ sudo rm libc.so.6 Then I can not use anything including ls command. The error appears for any command I type ls: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I've tried $ export LD_PRELOAD=/lib64/libc-2.12.so After this I can use ls and ln ..., but still can not use sudo ln ..., sudo -E ln ..., sudo su or even su. I always get this err sudo: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory or su: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory It seems LD_PRELOAD works only for the current shell session of my account, but not for a new account like root or a new session. It's a remote server so I can not use a live CD. I now have a ssh bash session alive but can not establish new ones. I have sudo privilege, but don't have root password. So currently my problem is I need to run sudo sln -s libc-2.12.so libc.so.6 to re-create the symlink libc.so.6, but I can not run sudo without libc.so.6. How can I fix it? Thanks~

• ASP.NET AJAX, WebSeal Junctions, and Sessions

  I've run up across a problem with ASP.NET AJAX (hooked up to WebServices directly) and accessing our site through a WebSeal junction. Listing 11. On this page; http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/tivoli/library/t-ajaxtam/index.html explains that requests to pages which do not result in a content type of text/html are not sent with cookie data. Hence, no session. ASP.NET AJAX requests are returned with a content type of "application/json; charset=utf-8". As such, the WebSeal junction is not appending the Session Cookie to the request. This results in our WebService seeing the user as invalid, due to no session information. The Junction has been setup properly with the -J parameter (thats an uppercase J, which appends the required script for WebSeal to the bottom of the page - this prevents forcing IE into quirks mode.) and we've confirmed that the necessary script exists in the output source. I'm up for any suggestions at this point, as I'm out of ideas. FWIW, the site runs perfectly when not accessed through the WebSeal Junction.

• How can I install Satchmo?

  I am trying to install Satchmo 0.9 on an Ubuntu 9.10 guest off of the instructions at http://bitbucket.org/chris1610/satchmo/downloads/Satchmo.pdf. I run into difficulties at 2.1.2: pip install -r http://bitbucket.org/chris1610/satchmo/raw/tip/scripts/requirements.txt pip install -e hg+http://bitbucket.org/chris1610/satchmo/@v0.9#egg=satchmo The first command fails because a compile error for how it's trying to build PIL. So I ran an "aptitude install python-imaging", locally copy the first line's requirements.text, and remove the line that's unsuccessfully trying to build PIL. The first line completes without error, as does the second. The next step tells me to change directory to the /path/to/new/store, and run: python clonesatchmo.py A little bit of trouble here; I am told that clonesatchmo.py will be in /bin by now, and it isn't there, but I put some Satchmo stuff under /usr/local, create a symlink in /bin, and run: python /bin/clonesatchmo.py This gives: jonathan@ubuntu:~/store$ python /bin/clonesatchmo.py Creating the Satchmo Application Traceback (most recent call last): File "/bin/clonesatchmo.py", line 108, in <module> create_satchmo_site(opts.site_name) File "/bin/clonesatchmo.py", line 47, in create_satchmo_site import satchmo_skeleton ImportError: No module named satchmo_skeleton A find after apparently checking out the repository reveals that there is no file with a name like satchmo*skeleton* on my system. How can I get a Satchmo installation under Ubuntu, or at least enough of a Satchmo installation that I am able to start with a skeleton of a store and then flesh it out the way I want? • iTunes' clandestine proxy settings

  Problem: One user's iTunes consults a defunct HTTP proxy, but only for iTunes Store HTTP requests -- other iTunes web requests are unproxied. How do I dismiss this spurious proxy setting? Background: It's not as easy as Internet Options. Years ago my network had a mandatory HTTP proxy at 172.31.1.1:8080. When we switched to the 192.168.1/24 space and eliminated the proxy, this user's iTunes -- the only iTunes user at the time -- could no longer contact the iTunes Store, an operation which fails with "unknown error -9808". This has been the case through several iTunes.exe upgrades over the years and prevents, among other things, activation of a new or newly upgraded iPhone. wireshark and TCPView confirm that this user's iTunes.exe is attempting to contact the long-defunct http proxy when attempting to reach the iTunes Store, but is otherwise unproxied. Curious details: No other iTunes.exe HTTP traffic for this user is affected -- iTunes can successfully make HTTP chatter at Apple's servers. No other web traffic at all is proxied, whether this user or others, iTunes or browser, etc. I cannot find the spurious proxy setting anywhere in the registry nor on disk, though perhaps I haven't thought of every place to look and every format to look for. Other users who have experienced the same error code all seem to have unrelated web configuration problems (certificate validation, for example). UPDATE in response to Phoshi's excellent suggestion, reinstallation hasn't done the trick.

  i have a 2200+ page text file. It is delivered from a customer through a data exchange to us with astericks to separate values and tildes (~) to denote the end of a row. The file is sent to me as a text file in Word. Most rows are split in two (1 row covers a full line and part of a second line). i transfer segments (10 page chunks) of it at a time into Excel where, unfortunately, any zeroes that occur at the end of a row get discarded in the "text to columns" procedure. So, i eyeball every "long" row to insure that zeroes were not lost and manually re-enter any that were. Here is a small bit of sample data: SDQ EA 92 1551 378 1601 151 1603 157 1604 83 The "SDQ, EA, and 92" are irrelevant (artifacts of data transmission). i want to use Excel VBA to select 1551, 1601, 1603, and 1604 (these are store numbers) so that i can copy those values and transpose paste them vertically. i will then go back and copy 378, 151, 157, and 83 (sales values) so that i can transpose paste them next to the store numbers. The next two rows of data contain the same store numbers but give the corresponding dollar values. i will only need to copy the dollar values so they can be transpose pasted vertically next to unit values (e.g. 378, 151, 157, and 83). Just being able to put my cursor on the first cell of interest in the row and run a macro to copy every other cell would speed up my work tremendously. i have tried using activecell and offset references to select a range to copy but have not been successful. • Remote Scripted Installation of Sun/Oracle JRE

  I'm attempting to automate the installation of a Debian server (debian 6.0 squeeze 64bit). Part of the installation requires the Sun JRE package to be installed. This package has a licence agreement, which has to be accepted. I have a script which uses the following lines to accept and install the JRE: echo "sun-java6-bin shared/accepted-sun-dlj-v1-1 boolean true" | debconf-set-selections apt-get install -y sun-java6-jre This works fine when executing the script locally. However, I need to execute the script remotely using the ssh command, e.g.: ssh -i keyFile root@hostname './myScript' This doesn't work. In particular, it fails on apt-get install -y sun-java6-jre. It would seem that in spite of me setting the licence agreement to accepted, when run remotely in this manner it is ignored. Despite setting the value to true, I still get prompted to manually accept the agreement when I run this command: ssh -i keyFile root@hostname 'apt-get install -y sun-java6-jre' I suspect it is something to do with environment that is taken care of when running a proper terminal session, but have no idea what to try next to fix it. So, what do I have to do to get this command (and hence my deployment script) to run correctly when executing it remotely? Or is there an alternative way that allows me to install the JRE remotely by another means? Edit 0: I have compared the output of env when executed remotely via ssh and when executed via a local terminal session. The only difference between the outputs is that the local terminal session has the additional value TERM=xterm.

• Sshfs is not working..

  Hi, When I run sshpass -p 'mypass' sshfs 'root'@'68.19.40.16':/ '/dir' -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no,debug It successfully mounts but it runs on foreground. When I run without 'debug' parameter, it doesn't mount at all. Server is ubuntu 8.04 Any ideas why? UPDATE: When I run the command as ROOT it does mount. • How can I install Satchmo?

  I am trying to install Satchmo 0.9 on an Ubuntu 9.10 32-bit guest off of the instructions at http://bitbucket.org/chris1610/satchmo/downloads/Satchmo.pdf. I run into difficulties at 2.1.2: pip install -r http://bitbucket.org/chris1610/satchmo/raw/tip/scripts/requirements.txt pip install -e hg+http://bitbucket.org/chris1610/satchmo/@v0.9#egg=satchmo The first command fails because a compile error for how it's trying to build PIL. So I ran an "aptitude install python-imaging", locally copy the first line's requirements.text, and remove the line that's unsuccessfully trying to build PIL. The first line completes without reported error, as does the second. • Backing up VMs to a tape drive

  I've got myself one of these fancy tape drives, HP LTO2 with 200/400 GB cartridges. The st driver reports it like this: scsi 1:0:0:0: Sequential-Access HP Ultrium 2-SCSI T65D I can store and retrieve files like a charm using tar, both tar cf /dev/st0 somedirectory and tar xf /dev/st0 work flawless. However, what I really would like to backup are LVM LVs. They contain entire virtual machines with varying partition layouts, so using mount and tar is not an option. I've tried using something like dd if=/dev/VG/LV bs=64k of=/dev/st0 to achieve this, but there seem to be various problems associated with this approach. Firstly, I would like to be able to store more than 1 LV on a single tape. Now I guess I could seek to concatenate the data on the tape, but I think this would not work very well in an automated scenario with many different LVs of various sizes. Secondly, I would like to store a small XML file along with the raw data that contains some information about the VM contained in the LV. I could dump everything to a directory and tar it up - not very desirable, I would have to set aside huge amounts of scratch space. Is there an easier way to achieve this? Thirdly, from googling around it seems like it would be wise to use something like mbuffer when writing to the tape, to prevent what wikipedia calls "shoe-shining" the tape. However, I can't get anything useful done with mbuffer. The mbuffer man page suggests this for writing to a tape device: mbuffer -t -m 10M -p 80 -f -o $TAPE So I've tried this: dd if=/dev/VG/LV | mbuffer -t -m 10M -p 80 -f -d 64k -o /dev/st0 Note the added "-d 64k" to account for the 64k block size of the tape. However, reading data back from a tape written in this way never seems to yield any useful results - dd has been running for ages now, and managed to transfer only 361M of data from the tape. What's wrong here?

  Hi! Yesterday we had a power failure and the UPS did not work (it has worked perfect before). Everything seem to be ok when I started all the servers again except of the mail, when I try to mount the store I get the following message: “The database files in this store are corrupted” Server: Exchange 2003 running on a Small Business Server Latest full backup: one week old Backup program: Backup Exec 9.0 This is what I have done: 1. Copy every file in the MDBDATA folder (edb, stm, log) 2. Run Eseutil /d for priv1.edb 3. Run Eseutil /p for priv1.edb (took seven hours) 4. Run Isintig –fix –test alltests, now it breaks down. Isintig fails with the following error: Isinteg cannot initiate verification process. Please review the log file for more information. The problem is that there is no log file created. 5. Giving up on this route I decide to do a restore from the backup, it fails with the following error: Unable to read the header of logfile E00.log. Error -501, and the error: Information Store (5976) Callback function call ErrESECBRestoreComplete ended with error 0xC80001F5 The log file is damaged. My conclusion is that E00.log is damage, so how can I repair it so that I can restore the database? Or should I give up and try some other route?

  I have a Windows Server 2012 VM running on Windows Azure. I want to enable the ability for 2 simultaneous administrative sessions over Remote Desktop. This is permitted under the EULA for Windows Server 2012. This is NOT the same thing as the fully-blown Terminal Services / RDS feature. In Windows Server 2000 and 2003, multiple concurrent sessions (up to a limit of 2, plus the root /console session) were enabled by default (such that logging-in via RDP without logging-out first would create a new session rather than reconnecting to the old session). In Server 2008 and later it uses single-sessions by default, as this simplifies administration (as most people want to connect to old sessions). In Windows Server 2008 R2, you can add the MMC snap-ins for Remote Desktop Host Configuration which allows you to re-enable concurrent sessions. However, in Server 2012, after adding the Remote Administration snap-ins from Server Manager it seems the Remote Desktop Host Configuration snap-in has been removed. How can I re-enable the multiple concurrent sessions for Remote Desktop for Administration in Windows Server 2012?

• FreeNAS AFP Doesn't Authenticate

  I just set up a FreeNAS 8.0.3 server and am trying to use its AFP (Netatalk) service to access it via a Mac OS X Lion system. I created the ZFS volume, set its permissions to include my user in its owner group (and set group write permissions), created an AFP share with AFP3 and told that share to "allow" @uninet (my group). I have a user on the server named tbutler, matching the user on my Mac. I can see the server, "Beatrice," in Finder. When I try to login in Finder using "Connect As...," the user "tbutler" and the proper password, I am returned to the main Finder window with the black bar now saying "Connection Failed." • Load Sharing Regarding Large Websites

  Hello, I have a question regarding Load Sharing for large websites. My Understanding: So if you have a website that has millions of fits a day you will need to have an architecture that can support this sort of pressure. You can either do one or two things: Invest in a single large server that has huge amounts of processing power, memory and storage (such as Microsoft's TerraServer). Spread the load of your website across a number of machines. Let me tackle the second approach, so you have a collection of machines all running Web Server Software and all having access to identical copies of the websites pages. You can either spread the load across these machines using a cyclic pattern in a DNS or you can use a Load Ballancing Switch. The advantages of this approach is: - Redundancy - servers can fail and the others would "pick up the slack" - Incremental - the ability to easily add new machines to this set-up. My Question's Is there a Virtual approach to this issue of load balancing now? If the website runs from a database - is there still only a single copy of the database? If a user had a session running on one Server (e.g. they had gone to www.example.org and had been assigned to Server 2 - were they had created a session) if they refreshed the website (and were allocated Server 3) would they still have their session? What are the other disadvantages associated with Load Balancing? Many Thanks, J

• SSH traffic over openvpn connection freezes when I cat a file

  I have an openvpn (version 2.1_rc15 at both ends) connection setup between two gentoo boxes using shared keys. it works fine for the most part. I use mysql, http, ftp, scp over the vpn with no problems. But when I ssh from the client to the server over the vpn, weird things happen. I can login, i can execute some commands. But if i try to run an ncurses application like top, or i try to cat a file, the connection will stall and I'll have to sever the ssh session. I can, for example, execute "echo blah; echo .; echo blah" and it will output the three lines of text over the ssh session fine. But if i execute "cat /etc/motd" the session will freeze the moment I press enter. I compiled openvpn 2.1.1 on my mac and copied over my config directory from my gentoo client. The mac connected and ssh sessions worked fine without freezing. I then compiled it on my older gentoo box (2.6.26 kernel) which I am retiring due to a dying hard drive, and ssh over it also works perfectly. Why does it fail on my brand new gentoo box ? I've tried compiling three different kernels in case it was that, but other than that there should be no difference between my older and my newer gentoo boxes that I can think of. Any suggestions on what's wrong ?

• Millions of files in php's tmp error - how to delete?

  Hey. I've got a tmp-folder with 14 million php session files in my home directory. At least that's what I think it is, it's not like I could ls it or anything. How can I empty this folder? I've tried using find with the -exec rm {} \; commands but that didn't work. ls 'sess_0*' | xargs rm did neither. I'm currently running rm -rf tmp but after two hours the folder appears to be the same size. • Specify default group and permissions for new files in a certain directory

  I have a certain directory in which there is a project shared by multiple users. These users use SSH to gain access to this directory and modify/create files. This project should only be writeable to a certain group of users: lets call it "mygroup". During an SSH session, all files/directories created by the current user should by default be owned by group "mygroup" and have group-writeable permissions. I can solve the permissions problem with umask: $ cd project $ umask 002 $ touch test.txt File "test.txt" is now group-writeable, but still belongs to my default group ("mislav", same as my username) and not to "mygroup". I can chgrp recursively to set the desired group, but I wanted to know is there a way to set some group implicitly like umask changes default permissions during a session. This specific directory is a shared git repo with a working copy and I want git checkout and git reset operations to set the correct mask and group for new files created in the working copy. The OS is Ubuntu Linux. Update: a colleague suggests I should look into getfacl/setfacl of POSIX ACL but the solution below combined with umask 002 in the current session is good enough for me and is much more simple.

• Mac OS X Disk Encryption - Automation

  I want to setup a Mac Mini server with an external drive that is encrypted. In Finder, I can use the full-disk encryption option. However, for multiple users, this could become tricky. What I want to do is encrypt the external volume, then set things up so that when the machine boots, the disk is unlocked so that all users can access it. Of course permissions need to be maintained, but that goes without saying. What I'm thinking of doing is setting up a root-level launchd script that runs once on boot and unlocks the disk. The encryption keys would probably be stored in root's keychain. So here's my list of concerns: If I store the encryption keys in the system keychain, then the file in /private/var/db/SystemKey could be used to unlock the keychain if an attacker ever gained physical access to the server. this is bad. If I store the encryption keys in my user keychain, I have to manually run the command with my password. This is undesirable. If I run a launchd script with my user credentials, it will run under my user account but won't have access to the keychain, defeating the purpose. If root has a keychain (does it?) then how would it be decrypted? Would it remain locked until the password was entered (like the user keychain) or would it have the same problem as the system keychain, with keys stored on the drive and accessible with physical access? Assuming all of the above works, I've found diskutil coreStorage unlockVolume which seems to be the appropriate command, but the details of where to store the encryption key is the biggest problem. If the system keychain is not secure enough, and user keychains require a password, what's the best option?
