  • profiling WCF services with visual studio profiler

    I am trying to profile a WCF service using visual studio profiler. So i created a profile by choosing asp.net application, and gave it the url of the web service. When i launch the session, it launches a web page to the site. I then run my unit test using another visual studio client, but the test always fails with with communication exception, and the process that performance analyze is attached to exits out. if i run the test again, it attached the process again, but the tests still fails with communication exception. This is throwing my report off since its only accounting for the startup work that the application is supposed to do. can someone point out what i am doing wrong ?

    After learning the basic syntax, reading some non-trivial code is a fast way to learn a language. We can also learn how to design a library/software during reading others' code. I have following lists. A Chess program in OCaml by Tomek Czajka. Hal Daumé has written several machine learning libraries in Ocaml. Including decision trees, logistic regression and SVM. All of them are near-production-quality code. A Chess Game Analysis program in F# in Microsoft Research. The above three are my favorites. Will you suggest some other sources? General purpose open source software are good, specialized open source like the three I list here are even more welcome.

  • Integrating FedEx Web Services into .Net, stuck at step 1

    I'm signed up, I've downloaded sample code, I've got a WSDL...and yet I have no idea how to get this stuff into my existing .Net application. The WSDL was in a zip file, not a URL so I can't just "Add Web Reference." I've run the wsdl tool from the .Net command prompt, and it made a nice class for me...yet dropping that into my web_reference folder doesn't give me any kind of instantiatable class. I know I'm missing something stupid. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

  • Using Audio Queue Services to play PCM data over a socket connection

    I'm writing a remote desktop client for the iPhone and I'm trying to implement audio redirection. The client is connected to the server over a socket connection, and the server sends 32K chunks of PCM data at a time. I'm trying to use AQS to play the data and it plays the first two seconds (1 buffer worth). However, since the next chunk of data hasn't come in over the socket yet, the next AudioQueueBuffer is empty. When the data comes in, I fill the next available buffer with the data and enqueue it with AudioQueueEnqueueBuffer. However, it never plays these buffers. Does the queue stop playing if there are no buffers in the queue, even if you later add a buffer?   • Port scientific software to GPU and publish it

    Hi, let's say that I am a physicist and that I am the master of the universe when it comes to port salready existing oftware to GPU's with 100x or more speedups. Let's say that I find that some other scientist, which does not know how to program GPU, publishes the Open Source code in his/her website of a physical simulation program, in the field I am expert on. Let's say that I realize "I can port that code to GPU", and I suggest him, but he shows no interest. My interest here is, 1) to port it to GPU, 2) to publish this result in a scientific journal related with physics and/or computer science My question for you is 1- would you proceed here to port the code to GPU (or other new arch) and publish it? 2- how would you do it and which journal do you suggest?   • How do you guys handle custom yum repository?

    I have a bunch of tools (nagios, munin, puppet, etc...) that gets installed on all my servers. I'm in the process of building a local yum repository. I know most folks just dump all the rpms into a single folder (broken down into the correct path) and then run createrepo inside the directory. However, what would happen if you had to update the rpms? I ask because I was going to throw each software into its own folder.     Given the following: I have an application that allows people to login through twitter, myspace, yahoo, and google User creates initial account by logging in through Google User logs out User logs back in using Yahoo. ...is there a recommended way for the application to associate those two accounts together? Stack Overflow has this functionality but it seems like they need the user to manually say "this account google account is associated with that yahoo one". Is there no way to do this automatically?

    I was following http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ee336022.aspx but there were js errors. for example Sys is undefined So I added http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/act/40412/start.js. Then Sys.Data is undefined So I added http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/act/40412/MicrosoftAjaxDataContext.debug.js. But then TypeError: Sys.Data.OpenDataContext is not a constructor What shall I do to be able to call the service the way they do it on the first link? What are the scripts and resources needed?   • Data refresh and drill down problem with SSAS cube and excel services

    I have a SSAS cube which I am using in an excel document, prepare a report which has drill-down etc and i am publishing it to a sharepoint site. It gets published alright but when I try to drill down it throws an error "Data Refresh failed" etc.The data source and the sharpoint site are on the same machine(running windows server 2008) and we have windows authentication running. From what I have been able to find on the internet there is a problem with passing the windows authentication credentials to the database etc.But I have not been able to find the exact way to sort out these problem. What is the solution for this????

  • Software tools to automatically decrypt a file, whose encryption algorithm (and/or encryption keys)

    I have an idea for encryption that I could program fairly easily to encrypt some local text file. Given that my approach is novel, and does not use any of the industry standard encryption techniques, would I be able to test the strength of my encryption using 'cracker' apps or suchlike? Or do all those tools rely on advanced knowledge of the encryption process (or intercepted 'keys'), meaning I'd have to build my own cracker for testing?

  • ASMX Web Services with SOAP Extension

    I am in the process of setting up a web service for an external client to connect to my client's application and update some information. I went the ASMX route (the rest of the application runs on WCF) because I knew the external client could be very difficult to deal with and I was trying to keep everything as simple as possible. They also aren't a .Net shop which makes things worse. After getting the service setup for them I provided the ASMX URL for them to see how to format the SOAP headers/message content. They have since come back and told me their tool is unable to send them in the format required by .Net and I can either come up with a different way to accept messages or we have to go with FTP. Based on this I have been researching how to intercept their message, reformat it the way my service requires it (which means adding two lines), and then let it process. This path led me to SOAP Extensions which I have been trying to work with but can't seem to figure out. When I have my sample application call the web service from the generated code Add Web Reference provides everything works great until I add in my extension. All it currently does is override ChainStream setting an internal stream equal to the one being passed in and returning a new stream, like this: private Stream newStream = null; private Stream oldStream = null; public override Stream ChainStream(Stream stream) { this.oldStream = stream; this.newStream = new MemoryStream(); return newStream; } I also override ProcessMessage and in it take the contents of oldStream and set newStream equal to that and then write to a different stream with an XmlWriter. I take that new stream and using a StreamReader read it into a string, with the end goal being manipulating it here and setting newStream (which is being used by ChainStream) equal to the contents of this. Here is that piece: public override void ProcessMessage(SoapMessage message) { switch (message.Stage) { case SoapMessageStage.BeforeDeserialize: this.Process(); break; default: break; } } private void Process() { this.newStream.Position = 0L; XmlTextReader reader = new XmlTextReader(this.oldStream); MemoryStream outStream = new MemoryStream(); using (XmlWriter writer = XmlWriter.Create(outStream)) { do { writer.WriteNode(reader, true); } while (reader.Read()); writer.Flush(); } outStream.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin); StreamReader streamReader = new StreamReader(outStream); string message = streamReader.ReadToEnd(); newStream = outStream; newStream.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin); streamReader.Close(); } By running this, which seems to me like it would be fine, my test application gets a 400 Bad Request back from the service. If I either don't use the extension or I don't do anything in ProcessMessage everything seems fine. Any suggestions to this? As a side note, once I get this working with the generated code from the WSDL I will be moving to a WebRequest to try sending the message to the service. Currently that bombs out with a 415 Unsupported Media Type response. I'm trying to keep this post to one question but if anyone has any tips with using a WebRequest to connect to an ASMX service it would be much appreciated!

    I am using WCF REST service (GET method) to retrieve my EF4 POCOs. The service seem to work just fine. When I query the uri in my browser I get the results as expected. In my client application I am trying to use WCF REST Starter Kit's HTTPExtension method - ReadAsDataContract() to convert the result back into my POCO. This works fine when the POCO's navigation property is a single object of related POCO. The problem is when the navigation property is a collection of related POCOs. The ReadAsDataContract() method throws an exception with message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Below are my POCOs.     I have a very large photo gallery with thousands of similar people, objects, locations, things. The majority of the people in the photos have their own user accounts and avatar photos to match. There are also logical short lists of people potentially in the photo based on additional data available for each photo. I allow users to tag photos with their friends and people they know but an automated process would be better. I've used photo tagger/finder from face.com integrating with Facebook photos and the Google Picasa photo tagger for personal albums also does the same thing and is exactly what I'm looking to do. Is there a PHP script, API for Google Picasa, face.com or other recognition service or any other open source project that provides server-side facial recognition and/or grouping photos by similarity?     Hi, I am trying to extend Visual Studio 2010 RC to be able to use a custom programming language. The first two things I've tried to do is a syntax highlight/Intellisense feature (easily done, thanks to "Ook!" sample from PDC09) and a possibility to create new project templates (i.e. be able to open *.myproj files). For this second task, I can't find any easy tutorials or samples. Most samples are for Visual Studio 2008 (as for IronPython integration) or even VS2003. The few samples available for VS2010 do not work (including MPFProj) or do not compile, and are too hard to understand. Is there any easy-to-understand sample, either using MPFProj or a standalone solution, showing how to integrate templates for a custom language inside Visual Studio 2010?
