• ResultSet and aggregation

  Ok, I admit my situation is special There is a data system that supports SQL-92 and JDBC interface However the SQL requets are pretty expensive, and in my application I need to retreive the same data multiple times and aggregate it ("group by") on different fields to show different dimensions of the same data. For example on one screen I have three tables that show the same set or records but aggregated by City (1st grid), by Population (2nd grid), by number of babies (3rd grid) This amounts to 3 SQL queries (which is very slow), UNLESS anyone of you can suggest any idea any library from apache commons or from google code, so that I can select all records into ResultSet and get 3 arrays of data group by different fields from this single ResultSet. Am I'm missing some obvious and unexpected solution to this problem?

  I'm using rails 3.0 and MySql 5.1 I have these three models: Question, Tag and QuestionTag. Tag has a column called name. Question has many Tags through QuestionTags and vice versa. Suppose I have n tag names. How do I find only the questions that have all n tags, identified by tag name. And how do I do it in a single query. (If you can convince me that doing it in more than one query is optimal, I'll be open to that) A pure rails 3 solution would be preferred, but I am not adverse to a pure SQL solution either.

  Hi, I'm trying to remove duplicates from a Dojo FilteringSelect without changing the contents of the attached itemFileReadStore data store. I can't seem to find any information on how this is done, if it is indeed possible. I'm thinking I may have to extend the FilteringSelect Dijit and provide the functionality myself but I'm hoping to not have to. The reason I'm trying to remove duplicates with the FilteringSelect and not the data store is because I'm using the same data store with three instances of the FitleringSelect, each displaying different values from each row of the store.

• Problem with keyboard language

  Hello you all! I just made an application which purpose is to find an x result using the rule of three. It runs fine and everything but there is a small problem. I am using WinXP Europpean Spanish version. As we all know, in many europpean countries the decimal dot is changed by a " , " comma. When I use my application, it turns out that when I press the dot key on my keyboard´s number pad, my application doesnt take it as a normal decimal dot and it ignores it... so I need to manually press the comma key so it can give me the right answer. How can I solve this problem?

• Constructing colours for maximum contrast

  I want to draw some items on screen, each item is in one of N sets. The number of sets changes all the time, so I need to calculate N different colours which are as different as possible (to make it easy to identify what is in which set). So, for example with N = 2 my results would be black and white. With three I guess I would get all red, all green, all blue. For all four, it's less obvious what the correct answer is, and this is where I'm having trouble.

  I just wrote some markdown and it doesn't seem to render correctly. Is it legal syntax to have an ordered list, followed by newlines, then followed by an unordered list? Or is this a bug in bluecloth? For example: 1. One 2. Two 3. Three * Apple * Banana * Carrot Bluecloth creates a single <ul> and nests apple, banana and carrot as <li>'s under it. Stackoverflow's post editor (wmd?) does this too. Am I just doing it wrong? Surely this is a common usage case...

  I am using coredata framework. In my NSManagedObjectModel i am using three entities that are Class, Student and Score where class and student have one-to-many & inverse relationship and Student and Score have also inverse but one-one relationship. Score entity has all optional attributes and having default '0' decimalVaue, which is not assigned at the time new Student is added. But later i want to assign them score individually and also to particular attribute not all of score attributes in a go. I am able to create and add Students to particular Class but dont have any idea how to call particular student and assign them score. For example I want to assign Score'attribute "dribbling" [there are many attributes like "tackling"] a decimal value to Student "David" of Class "Soccer" ,how i can do that? • Can't get ScrollTo to work with keyboard arrows

I'm calling these three JS files: serialScroll.js scrollTo.js keyboard.js (the keyboard control snippet) Html I'm trying to manipulate. Want it to jump from ind-photo to ind-photo on arrow left and right. <div id="photos"> <div class="ind-photo"><img src="2.jpg" /></div> <div class="ind-photo"><img src="3.jpg" /></div> </div> I can't get it to work at all.   Just curious, I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to get an array of all the records in a nested model. I just want to make sure there is not a better way. Here is the setup: I have three models that are nested under each other (Facilities Tags Inspections), producing code like this for routes.rb: map.resources :facilities do |facilities| facilities.resources :tags, :has_many => :inspections end I wanted to get all of the inspections for a facility and here is what my code ended up being: def facility_inspections @facility = Facility.find(params[:facility_id]) @inspections = [] @facility.tags.each do |tag| tag.inspections.each do |inspection| @inspections << inspection end end end It works but is this the best way to do this - I think it's cumbersome. • TFS: Managing assembly version number?

  Hello, any good approach for managing assembly version numbers in TFS, possibly together with using the same number for the build number? I would be most interested in an approach that: Maintains the first three elements of the version Counts the rest upward for every "official" build (i.e. a build originating from certain templates only - no need to count up for something like a gated checkin, but the following regular integration build SHOULD count up. Labels the builds, so that a manual "release" build can be triggered. Any solution? How are other people handling this? Right now the (new) TFS is happily building with the same assembly version all around ;) Something coding the complete assembly version with date etc. is not acceptable - I want that number to "follow rules", and having the date in there is not one of them ;)

• email tracking image duplicate requests

  I am embedding tracking images within emails that are being sent from a custom-built opt-in CRM system. The image src is an encoded .gif, such as src="12_34_675.gif". The image is served by an ASP.NET httphandler that decodes the src encoding and serves a transparent image. Everything works fine, but some email clients request the image multiple times, creating duplicate entries. Some clients make three calls all within one second, and some seem to make tens of calls over a day or so. Mostly email clients make single calls, but these few duplicates are very perplexing. I know I can code around them, but I'd really like to understand what's going on. I've checked the IIS log files, which show that the duplicate requests are coming from the client machines. I can't think what might be causing these duplicate http requests. Help!

• ASP.net Usercontrol caching viewstate across users?

  I have a usercontrol with asp:textbox controls on it that also performs postbacks. If two users, who are both identified by a different session variable, postback the page within the same second, one user will see the other user's viewstate values in the text boxes. I have validated that this happens by setting a textbox, a session variable, and a cookie to the same value (the same value that identifies the user) and writing to the log when all three don't match. The text box's value is the one that is logged as the other user's value. ASP.net 3.5, IIS 6 Has anyone experienced this issue.

• ModX: Selecting and outputting specific menu items using Wayfinder

  tI've been trying to output specific menu items, also wanting to change the names of some, without satisfying results. The problem is that I have three different menu setups throughout the site - the header split into two sections and the footer divided into a couple of columns. This is what I've tried so far - [[Wayfinder? &startId=0 &level=1 &limit=5 &excludeDocs=49,61,55]] While it works excluding all the other links isn's the most optimal solution as there are 11 in total plus I want to be able to 1. rearrange the order and 2. change the names of two of them.   I have a three models: listing, category, and site. There is a many to many relationship between listing and site and there is a many to many relationship between listing and category. A listing thus belongs to one or more sites and one or more categories (a listing can appear on multiple sites and multiple categories). Given a site id and a category id, I want a set of all the listings. I understand how to get the listings from a site id (listings = site.listings) and how to get the listings from a category id (listings = category.listings), but how do I get the triple join of the set of listings from both a site id and category id? The sql would look something like (sit_id and cat_id are input): select l.name from listings l, categories_listings cl, listings_sites, ls where cl.category_id = cat_id and ls.site_id = sit_id and cl.listing_id = l.id and ls.listing_id = l.id Thanks in advance

• Error using MVCContrib TestHelper

  While trying to implement the second answer to a previous question, I am receiving an error. I have implemented the methods just as the post shows, and the first three work properly. The fourth one (HomeController_Delete_Action_Handler_Should_Redirect_If_Model_Successfully_Delete) gives this error: Could not find a parameter named 'controller' in the result's Values collection. If I change the code to: actual .AssertActionRedirect() .ToAction("Index"); it works properly, but I don't like the "magic string" in there and prefer to use the lambda method that the other poster used. My controller method looks like this: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Delete(State model) { try { if( model == null ) { return View( model ); } _stateService.Delete( model ); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } catch { return View( model ); } } What am I doing wrong?

  Here's the code in question I'm trying to create a simple application - each of the three men has a rel="x" attribute attached them. I'm using var regionId = $('img.selected-region').attr('rel'); to make the rel of the currently selected item the value of reginId. I want to test this out by performing a simple document.write(regionId) command in a div under the pictures of the men. However, it's not working. Have I put the var regionId definition in the right place in the script window? I'm completely new to javascript so the syntax is confusing to me - and help would be greatly appreciated.

• Validation errors from Google App Engine Logout link

  I am making a web page using the Google App Engine. I am validating my pages, and found that the logout link that is generated by the call to the users api (in python) users.create_logout_url(request.uri) does not validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict. The href in the anchor tag looks like this: /_ah/login?continue=http%3A//localhost%3A8080/&action=Logout Including a link with this anchor text throws three different validation errors: *general entity "action" not defined and no default entity *reference to entity "action" for which no system identifier could be generated *EntityRef: expecting ';' Here is a dummy page with the anchor tag in it, if you want to try it on w3c validator.Dummy Page. The logout link wont work, but you can see how the page is valid without it, but the actual text inside the href tag breaks the validation. Any thoughts on whats going on? Thank you!

Say the inner list of three elements in size and looks like this: ['apple', 'fruit', 1.23] The outer list looks like this data = [['apple', 'fruit', 1.23], ['pear', 'fruit', 2.34], ['lettuce', 'vegetable', 3.45]] I want to iterate through the outer list and cull data for a temporary list only in the case that element 1 matches some keyword (aka: 'fruit'). So, if I'm matching fruit, I would end up with this: tempList = [('apple', 1.23), ('pear', 2.34)] This is one way to accomplish this: tempList = [] for i in data: if i[1] == 'fruit': tempList.append(i[0], i[2]) is there some 'Pythonic' way to do this in fewer lines?
