  Back in Windows 95 OSR2 (I believe), there was a conversion tool that would take your extant FAT16 partition and change it to FAT32 non-destructively (most of the time). Are there any tools like that now for going from one file system type to another in situ without destroying the data? For example, from etx3 to ext4? Or NTFS to XFS?

  Is there a tool that can automatically remove the music sections of a given mp3 file so only the talking part is left? This would create a better listening experience when listening to the file on my portable mp3 player. Currently I'm doing the task manually by looking for 'dense' regions using Audacity, but this is very cumbersome for large files. Any help would be appreciated.

• Detecting hardware and installing drivers in Windows XP

  I have on my desk a computer that I am reinstalling. I have just completed the Windows XP install , which is professional service pack 3. I have also installed an AV package. Now it is time to install the audio and display drivers. Windows Update does not detect the Display card, and neither the audio device. I really have no idea what devices are present in this system, and I am thinking of opening the case, and reading some IDs from the cards themselves. Before I do this, is there not some kind of tool that can automatically detect hardware and install drivers automatically. If not then at least tell me what devices are present, with some real descriptions, so I can search for drivers.

• Laptop Toshiba Satelite M300 screen is completely blank.

  Hi, My laptop Toshiba satelite M300 Laptop screen is completely blacked out. It powers up and appears to be running but the screen is blank. I've taken battery pack off and back on again. Before the screen was blacked out, it used to flicker a bit. Also before it blacked out i was having problems with the internet and I was on phone to Internet provider who took me through steps to take my laptop back to a future date where it was operational. It then worked properly for a few days but then switched it on and screen was blank. It's more then a year old so out of warranty. Any suggestions on whether I should pay the $300 bucks to see if they can fix it?

• Uninstalling PowerShell 1.0

  I am attempting to standardize our PowerShell deployment and usage across all servers, which involves uninstalling PS1.0/installing PS2.0 on Server 2003 machines. In searching for KB926139 through CMD and Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, it is nowhere to be found. We have KB926141 installed on these servers as the Language Pack update, but no initial Install Update. PowerShell 1.0 is installed on the server and can be found at the default locations (%windir%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\V1.0, %windir%\Syswow64\WindowsPowerShell\V1.0). I would like to avoid deleting the Registry Entry in this situation since it should be pretty simple, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  Is there a possibility to store nginx locations in DB instead of the config to serve them dynamically? The task is to create dynamic URLs for video files based on user's IP and video ID. The idea is when the user visits my website such an dynamic URL is created and added to the db as a new nginx location that exists just for this user and not for others. Or nginx doesn't fit my task and I need to use another tool? Thanks.

• Sagem Router Wifi Key Issue

  Hi I have a multiservices sagem router which supports wifi as well, the pack came up with a default wifi configuration key and a WEP Key in the label of the package like this: WIFI Configuration key: abcd1234 WEP Key: C4H2F167C10263AEB98V52920E Now, when i execute the wifi usb wizard in the official cd, it asks me for the WIFI key, i put the abcd1234 & it says it's incorrect, i try the long WEP key and it says that the key should only have 8 characters. When i go to the control panel of the router in the wifi config, i see that: Open Authentification System WEP 128 Bit Passphrase: C4H2F167C10263AEB98V52920E Now since the wizard only accepts 8 characters, i try to change the 128bit to 64bit and put some 8 characters and it ends up saying that the new key should be 5 or 13, or 10-26 hex numbers. What to do? Thanks

• Battery notification always showing 'xx% remaining' with Windows 7 on an acer Aspire 5590

  My battery level always shows up as something like 55% remaining or 63% remaining ...etc despite that it is in fact charging. Additionally it doesn't go any further than 80% remaining even if I keep it in charge forever. This leads me to a side annoying effect which is that I cannot proceed to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 as its installer requires the laptop to be plugged with a power cord. My laptop is plugged with the power cord but because of the above issue (it doesn't display anything else than the xx% remaining) Windows thinks that the laptop is using its battery and that the power cord is disconnected. I have installed the original acer ePower Management tool that let you configure the power scheme... etc, I was hoping that this would help me circumvent the 80% issue but it doesn't.

• Windows 8 blue screen error watchdog violation

  My system is windows 8 pro rtm x64. Recently my system started hanging frequently. Nothing but the restart button works. But now just after hanging it showed me a BSOD error saying watchdog violation. I used bluscreen viewer to see the error in the memory dump and it showed me something about hal.dll, ntoskrnl.exe. This is what windows showed me.   Hi, I've used TorrentSpy since 2004 and it does a pretty good job but it is very slow with torrent files that have hundreds or thousands of files. Does anyboy knows a better tool for the same job in XP? If you didn't know it, TorrentSpy show the data contained in a torrent file in a readable way: URL's tracker, number of files, its size, number of complete and incomplete downloaders, etc. Edit: What I want is something that can be used from explorer right-clicking in the torrent file, like MediaInfo does with media files.

  I have a file which includes new icons for my system. Anyway, How can I change my old icons down with new ones? The name of the new icon pack is "myFAV-TUX" and it's sitting on my desktop. The problem is, I can't copy them into the usr/share/icons/ folder. It says, permission denied. I also tried ls -l .... But i couldn't do it. How can I change the icon theme? Please help.

  Hello , I need to know if there is anyway utility bult-in windows 2003 that I can use from the command line to download a file using only one command. Basically I know that I can download from ftp using the "ftp" utility but in order to do that I need to do first "ftp open" and then pass the other commands so it doesn't help me because I need to do perform the download only from one command. The download may be performed through http, ftp or any other protocol.   I often leave the PC running into the night to process video files, so it shouldn't sleep while it's working but it would be nice if it went into sleep when it's done. During the export the CPU is always above a set %, and when idle it's typically in the single digits. Is there some tool or setting that would prevent the PC from going to sleep as long as the CPU usage (let's say averaged over one minute) stays above a specified limit?

  I know with readline you can use emacs or vi commands to edit the input of several interactive text programs. I wonder if there exists such a similar facility to control the whole desktop in Gnome or in any other desktop environment. Maybe it could be a program that intercepts keystrokes and process them in the way vi does, translating sequences of characters to desktop commands and delivering to the active window only the text that is writen in insert mode. Do you know some tool like that?
