• HTML: adjusting the font size according to the screen size

  I am building an intranet website that is intended to be seen by mobile phones using one of the following resolutions: 240x320, 320x240, 360x640 and 800x352. All content is to be seen covering the full screen. No scroll should be necessary. I have developed, initially for 360x640. When this content is seen on 240x320 or 320x240 the letter is too big and the user has to scroll to see all content. Is there any way to scale the letters down or up automatically, so the content will fit on every screen size? I mean, adjusting the text font size according to the current screen resolution? thanks for any help.

  I found this question, but the question is about how to get an image from the clip board into a wyziwyg editor! My question is "How can I paste an image from the clipboard into a field (what field is not that big issue as long as it works)", and then sent to the server. Jira has this functionality, so it should be possible! Any ideas on how to do this? Just to explain the complete workflow; I would like to have a plave to multi upload images, where the paste from clipboard also is an option. The upload will be some ajax of some sort, bt is not important in this context! Thanks

• What's the best way to match a query to a set of keywords?

  Pretty much what you would assume Google does. Advertisers come in and big on keywords, lets say "ipod", "ipod nano", "ipod 60GB", "used ipod", etc. Then we have a query, "I want to buy an ipod nano" or "best place to buy used ipods" what kind of algorithms and systems are used to match those queries to the keyword set. I would imagine that some of those keyword sets are huge, 100k keywords made up of one or more actual words. on top of that queries can be 1-n words as well. Any thoughts, links to wikipedia I can start reading? From what I know already I would use some stemmed hash in disk(CDB?) and a bloom filter to check to see if I should even go to disk.

  There are two obvious ways in C to provide outside access to internal attribute values (A) provide a generic interface that accepts a list of attributes that changes over time (some added / some die) or (B) a specific interface for each and every attribute. Example A: int x_get_attribute_value(ATT att) { if (a) return a_val; if (b) return b_val; } Example B: A_Enum x_get_a_type_attribute() {} B_Enum x_get_b_type_attribute() {} I recall that Eclipse's API is very much like A (I could be wrong). What I can't do is come up with a compelling argument against either. A is clean - any user will no where to go to find out a property value. It can evolve cleanly without leaving dead interfaces around. B has type checking to a degree - this is C enums! Is there a big hitter argument that pushes the balance away from opinion?

• jQuery: Animated header plugin

  I'm looking for a jQuery plugin that can help me with the following: I have a list of images I want to use for my header but they are pretty big (height especially) and I don't want to resize them to fit my small header div. What I'd want is a plugin that allows the images to start at the bottom of the div (or rather the top of the image at the top of the div) and move upwards so the entire image can be seen, and once up they are shown entirely (bottom of image at bottom of div) they should "blend" (opacity toggle or something alike) with the next image and thus create a continuous loop with all the images. I've looked through several plugins but have never found one that can achieve what I'm looking for (maybe I'm asking for a tad too much) but my JS is not sufficient enough to build it myself.   I'm running into a few problems with adding gae-sessions to a relatively mature GAE app. I followed the readme carefully and also looked at the demo. First, just adding the gaesesions directory to my app causes the following error when running tests with nose and nose-gae: Exception ImportError: 'No module named threading' in <bound method local.__del__ of <_threading_local.local object at 0x103e10628>> ignored All the tests run fine so not a big problem but suggests that something isn't right. • http://localhost/ not working on Windows 7. What's the problem?

  I have a big problem opening http://localhost/ on Windows 7 (beta). I installed this os and everything went great; when I installed Wamp I saw that localhost is not working at all. I just see this error: Failed to Connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost. in Mozilla and Explorer. I removed Wamp and after some weeks (that means two weeks from today) I installed NetBeans on Windows 7. I created a test PHP script and when I debug it, I get the same error again. I tried to access it with ip 127.... but still the same. What is the problem? When i installed NetBeans I installed it in port 8080.

  I have a big problem. I've made a simple Google Chrome plugin (based on the old Youtube Video Downloader) but I have some problems with it. The first problem is that it won't pop up a new save window on click, but opens a new page with the video in the default Chrome player. The second is, that when the user clicks right click-save, they won't get the video name but a standardized name. Is there any way to make a file save dialog with a specified file save name?

• Optimizing tiled maps in cocos2d-iphone

  My cocos2d-iphone game has tiled maps. The tilesets textures are rather big. I got around 5 tilesets and each one is 2048x2048 (retina). My maps are around 80x80. They have around 8 layers and each one is obviously using one tileset. The frame rate falls (it goes around 30 sometimes. I know 30 is rather aceptable, but still, I want 50+). So given that textures are huge I can't afford to make many layers (since each one loads a texture of these). So how about I divide my tileset textures into much smaller tilesets (like 1024x1024 each)? That will allow me to use many more layers for my maps, right? Are there any other tips for huge retina display tile maps?

  I wrote code that injects a function in Internet Explorer/Chrome but it doesn't work with these processes. Basically, it fills one big structure with all the APIs my function needs, strings, and other data, then it opens a process to get a handle, virtualallocex to allocate enough memory to store a function and structure there, and it writes the function and the structure in allocated memory. It then runs createremotethread there with the function as a starting address and structure as parameter. It works all great with calc/notepad/winamp processes but I have problems with browser injection. • SQL Server Express 2008 Stored Procedure execution time spikes periodically

  I have a big stored procedure on a SQL Server 2008 Express SP2 database that gets run about every 200 ms. Normal execution time is about 50ms. What I am seeing is large inconsistencies in this run time. It will execute for while, say 50-100 times at 40-60ms which is expected, then seemingly at random the same stored procedure will take way longer, say 900ms or 1.5 seconds to run. Sometimes more than one call of the same procedure in a row will take longer too. It appears that something is causing sql server to slow down dramatically every minute or so, but I can't figure out what. There is no timing pattern between the occurences. I have the same setup on two different computers, one of which is a clean XP Pro load with no virus checking and nothing installed except SQL server. Also, The recovery options for all the databases are set to "Simple".

  My program has two threads: Main execution thread that handles user input and queues up database writes A utility thread that wakes up every second and flushes the writes to the database Inside the main thread, I occasionally need to make reads on the database. When this happens, performance is not important, but correctness is. (In a perfect world, I would be reading from a cache, not making a round-trip to the database - but let's put that aside for the sake of discussion.) How do I make sure that the main thread sees a correct / quiescent database? A standard mutex won't work, since I run the risk of having the main thread grab the mutex before the data gets flushed to the database. This would be a big race condition. What I really want is some sort of mutex that lets the main thread of execution proceed only AFTER the mutex has been grabbed and released once. Does such a thing exist? What's the best way to solve this problem?

He claims that *NIX is for real Java geeks, whereas WIN is for dummies (and I'm one of them, according to him) and girls. When I ask him to argue his position, and explain, what's so good for Java developer on *NIX, he starts talking about console, wget, curl and grep. But sorry, wget and curl analogues exist for the WIN platform as well. As for the console - I'm using FAR Commander, and have access to the command line when I need. Moreover, even if I decide moving to *NIX, I will certainly use Netbeans or Eclipse on it, so there will be no big difference. Guys, who use Java on *NIX, could you please give me some real killer examples, when *NIX (any util or technique) dramatically increases Java development productivity (in the way the hints are given in "The Pragmatic Programmer"), or, which is also important, gives more fun from the process.   I have a long text and I'd like to offer the user a reading help: The current line should be highlighted. To make it easier, I'll just use the Y coordinate of the mouse (this way, the mouse pointer isn't going to get in the way). I have a big DIV with the id content which fills the whole width and a small DIV with the class content for the text (see here for an example). I'm using jQuery 1.4. • Most efficient way for a lookup/search in a huge list (python)

  Hey guys, -- I just parsed a big file and I created a list containing 42.000 strings/words. I want to query [against this list] to check if a given word/string belongs to it. So my question is: What is the most efficient way for such a lookup? A first approach is to sort the list [list.sort()] and then just use the if word in list: print 'word' -- which is really trivial and I am sure there is a better way to do it. My goal is to apply a fast lookup that finds whether a given string is in this list or not. If you have any ideas of another data structure, they are welcome. Yet, I want to avoid for now more sophisticated data-structures like Tries etc. I am interested in hearing ideas (or tricks) about fast lookups or any other python library methods that might do the search faster than the simple 'in'.   I am working in .Net 3.5, looking at all the various constructors for Activator.CreateInstance. I want to create an instance of a class, calling a particular constructor. I do not have the class type, only its name. I have the following, which works, but actually winds up calling the parameterless constructor first, then the one I want. This is not a terribly big deal, but the parameterless constructor calls a rather busy base constructor, and the constructor I want to call does, too. In other words, given a type, calling CreateInstance with parameters is easy (only the last two lines below), but given only a type name, is there a better way than this?   This is my assembly program which is just a function to swap *x *y. So first argument from main is address of x which is in 8(%ebp) and second one is address of y is in 12(%ebp). The program does swap x and y. I need 7 lines for doing this. can you make it 6 lines and there is a condition you can use only %eax, %ecx, and %edx 3 registers. I think about it so much, but I can't make it 6 lines. There must be a way, isn't it? • C# StringBuilder question

  in a C# file i have a class Archiver { [DllImport("Archiver.dll")] public static extern void archive(string data, StringBuilder response); } string data is an input, and StringBuilder response is where the function writes something the archive function prototype (written in C) looks like this: void archive(char * dataChr, char * outChr); and it receives a string in dataChr, and then does a strcpy(outChr,"some big text"); from C# i call it something like this: string message = "some text here"; StringBuilder response = new StringBuilder(10000); Archiver.archive(message,response); this works, but the problem, as you might see is that i give a value to the StringBuilder size, but the archive function might give back a (way) larger text than the size i've given to my StringBuilder. any way to fix this?

  Hi, I have a system for the users to be able to post comments. The comments are grasped into a textarea. My problem is to format the comments with br tag to replace \n In fact, i could do something like that s.gsub(/\n/, '<br />') But the xss protection including in rails escapes br tags. So i could do this s.gsub(/\n/, '<br />').html_safe But then, all the tags are accepted even script.... causing a big security problem So my question is : how to format text with br safely ?   I'm trying to port some of my c++ code into c. I have the following construct class reader{ private: FILE *fp; alot_of_data data;//updated by read_until() method public: reader(const char*filename) read_until(some conditional dependent on the contents of the file, and the arg supplied) } Im then instantiating hundreds of these object and iterate over them using several 'read_until()' for each file until allfiles is at eof. I'm failing to see any clever way to do this in c, the only solution I can come up with is making an array of FILE pointers, and do the same with all the private member data from my class. But this seems very messy, can I implement the functionality of my class as a function pointer, or anything better, I think I'm missing a fundamental design pattern? The files are way to big to have all in memory, so reading everything from every file is not feasible Thanks

  A polymorphic inline cache works by caching the actual method by the type of the object, in order to avoid the expensive lookup procedures (usually a hashtable lookup). How does one handle the type comparison if the type objects are mutable (i.e. the method might be monkey patched into something different at run time). The one idea I've come up with would be a "class counter" that gets incremented each time a method is adjusted, however this seems like it would be exceptionally expensive in a heavily monkey patched environ since it would kill all the PICs for that class, even if the methods for them weren't altered. I'm sure there must be a good solution to this, as this issue is directly applicable to Javascript and AFAIK all 3 of the big JS VMs have PICs (wow acronym ahoy).
