• Overriding Magento Admin Controller, for Beginners

  In the Magento Admin section, I want to override the "Sales/Order/ShipmentController.php" controller file of the core Mage. I have tried rewriting the URL, using the "from" & "to" tags, but in vain. I don't know what is the actual & correct way of doing this, as I'm a newbie in Magento. Please anybody provide some good fundamental & correct answer, so that at least the concept gets clear. Also, if possible, please tell me, what is the actual purpose of the controller, for both the frontend & the back-end? Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Notepad++ regular expression find and replace $_REQUEST with $_GET but a more secure

  What I am doing is replacing, in a large program, all $_REQUEST['var'] and mysql_escape_string($_REQUEST['var']) with either the 1st or 2nd line below the dotted line. Now, I have figured out this much of the regular expression but I would like to make it simpler. Instead of having to run the top one first then the 2nd one I would like to just run one all together. I tried this but it did not work. (mysql_escape_string\()*$_REQUEST\[\'([^']*)\'\]\)(\)*) So below is what works but again have to do it twice. $_REQUEST\[\'([^']*)\'\] mysql_escape_string\($_REQUEST\[\'([^']*)\'\]\) (isset($_GET['\1'])?mysql_real_escape_string($_GET['\1']):false) (isset($_POST['\1'])?mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['\1']):false) ============================ Update: Yeah, after some research I figured out that Notepad++ does not support most regular expressions. I guess one additional step can not hurt a person. It's just laziness. *NOTE: BUT if anyone wants to try feel free to comment. At least it is just 2 steps and not 20.

  Hi guys, I am back in the field of programming for my Diploma-thesis now and stumbled over the following issue: I need to implement a thread-safe doubly-linked list for one thread writing the list at any position (delete, insert, mutate node data) and one to many threads traversing and reading the list. I am well aware that mutexes can be used to serialize access to the list, still I presume that a naive lock around any write operation will be less than optimal. I am wondering whether there are better variants. (I am well aware that 'optimal' has not much of a practical meaning as long as no exact measure/profiling are available but this is an academic thesis after all..) I am very gratefull for code-samples as well as references to academic granted these have at least a tiny bit of practical relevance. Thanks at lot

• Trying to get excel 2003 into already made windows form

  good afternoon everyone :) I got sucha dilemma! (hate being new at stuff!) What my problem is is that I have a project that is in full design mode swing right now. I built it using the Windows form.. Anyways, on one of my forms..that I already started building (very painstakingly).. Minds have changed and now what needs to be on that form is either a full excel 2003 workbook..or at the very least..excel worksheet. The problem is that I have not been using studio 2008 for long..and coding experience shows the same. Can someone please tell me how the heck I can put a worksheet or a workbook on that form without starting my whole project over using office forms? Please..go slow with this newbie cuz i really dont know anything and Jargon is confusing me even more :( thanxxXXX :)

• Browser-Incompatability with image alignment in CSS using YUI grid (Firefox + Opera)

  I'm having trouble with the alignment of two images on the footer of my temporary website (http://www.rotimioyewole.com). I'm new to the YUI grid, which I think may be a factor. It should look roughly like this (works correctly in Chrome and Safari, haven't tested IE yet): (http://cl.ly/44fH) But on FF and Opera look like this: http://cl.ly/44aO If I can have some sort of consistency then the website would at least be presentable. Ideally, I would also like to align both images on the same Y axis, as well as the text next to the icons. I had trouble figuring out how to search for a solution..can anybody help me? • MS DOS function like ipconfig to get system performance specs?

  I am aware of MSINFO32, but I'm wondering if there is a MS DOS command similar to ipconfig in order to get system specifications? I would like for the system specifications to be displayed in the MS DOS prompt. I would like to see at least: CPU RAM BUS speed Thanks for any insights. Edit: I am unable to install any other software, so just have to use existing DOS programming commands to extract this information. Thank you again. 2nd Edit: Whoops. • Log4J - Speed of resolving class/method/line references

  Does log4J still gather the class, method and line numbers by generating exceptions and inspecting the stack trace? Or has Java been optimized since Sun included their own logging framework. If not, why has there not been any optimizations made since. What is the main challenges in obtaining class, method and line numbers quickly and efficiently? Although I hate annotations and try to avoid them, has log4J not made use of this, such as: @log4j-class MyClass @log4j-method currentMethodOne At least this would avoid some companies bad habit of repeatedly writing/copying the method name as the first part of their logging message (which is seriously annoying). • A non-blocking server with java.io

  Everybody knows that java IO is blocking, and java NIO is non-blocking. In IO you will have to use the thread per client pattern, in NIO you can use one thread for all clients. Now my question follows: is it possible to make a non-blocking design using only the Java IO api. (not NIO) I was thinking about a pattern like this (obviously very simplified); List<Socket> li; for (Socket s : li) { InputStream in = s.getInputStream(); byte[] data = in.available(); in.read(data); // processData(data); (decoding packets, encoding outgoing packets } Also note that the client will always be ready for reading data. What are your opinions on this? Will this be suitable for a server that should at least hold a few hundred of clients without major performance issues?

• Open Source .NET embedded web/http server

  I am working on a project where I need to embed a web server into my C# application so the application could display it's status via HTTP. I suppose I'll want to configure it through the http also. I am looking for an open-source library written in C# and with a licensing scheme that will allow me to link it into my existing closed source code (LGPL). Any suggestions of specific products or where to look first? It would be great if that product could have some kind of scripting, at least templates. All html output would go from the application, only resources would be stored on the disk (images, icons, ...) EDIT: I would like it to run under .NET 2.0, however.

  Currently I have varchar field. The delimiter is "$P$P$". The delimiter will appear at least once and at most twice in the varchar data. Eg. Sample Heading$P$P$Sample description$P$P$Sample conclusion Sample Heading$P$P$Sample Description If the delimiter appears twice, I need to insert a text before the second occurance of the delimiter. Eg: Sample Heading$P$P$Sample DescriptionINSERT TEXT HERE$P$P$Sample Conclusion If the delimiter occurs only once, then I need to insert a text at the end of the field. • Should we develop code on a local machine in a VLAN?

  Because of security reasons, we will not be able to use IIS on our local machines. I'm sure that many of you have faced the same problem, so how did you solve it? Here are the options that we're looking at: Create a VLAN that is isolated from the network for development. This will allow us to use any software, including IIS, that we want. A disadvantage is testing Web services with external organizations, which can be overcome by using stubs. Not use a VLAN and use only the ASP.NET Development Server that comes with Visual Studio, and then deploying that code to the development server. This has the disadvantage of not being able to replicate the production environment during local development. In addition, at least one developer needs IIS for GIS development, so he couldn't develop locally. Thank you for comments or suggestions that you may have!

• Get the selected file in an Explorer window

  I'd like to know how, if possible, to get the path of the selected file in an open Windows Explorer window. If not, would it at least be possible to get the folder path of an open Windows Explorer window? The end reason I'm doing this, is a software tool I'm writing requires a user to select a file. I figure if they're already moving the file around with Windows Explorer and then start my tool up, it'd be good not to have to make them navigate to the folder again in the file open dialog box. My software would then be able to identify if it's got the right file extension and if so, just ask the user if they want to import that file. Thanks.

• How to convert searchTwitter results (from library(twitteR)) into a data.frame?

  I am working on saving twitter search results into a database (SQL Server) and am getting an error when I pull the search results from twitteR. If I execute: library(twitteR) puppy <- as.data.frame(searchTwitter("puppy", session=getCurlHandle(),num=100)) I get an error of: Error in as.data.frame.default(x[[i]], optional = TRUE) : cannot coerce class structure("status", package = "twitteR") into a data.frame This is important because in order to use RODBC to add this to a table using sqlSave it needs to be a data.frame. At least that's the error message I got: Error in sqlSave(localSQLServer, puppy, tablename = "puppy_staging", : should be a data frame So does anyone have any suggestions on how to coerce the list to a data.frame or how I can load the list through RODBC?

• minifying patched javascript files

  I'm writing a Rails app and I've partially integrated in this nice little patch to the in line ajax editor: http://inplacericheditor.box.re/ The problem is, on that page I have tinymce, prototype and scriptaculous included. In Firefox at least there's a big lag when all this stuff is loading. I was hoping to fix it by compressing the files so I checked out a plugin for rails called Smurf. It seemed to do what it was supposed to do nicely, but it choked on the little patch files that are included with the Ajax editor thing. THe patch files look like this: Object.extend(Ajax.InPlaceEditor.prototype, { handleAJAXFailure: function(transport) Alternatively, should I just be catching them instead of worrying about minfying them? I know I'm running on development and that Apache would maybe be handling serving the js files differently..It just seems like a lot of things to serve on one page.

  This is a variation on an existing question in SO about securing/obfuscating .Net applications in general. I'm developing an API in C# that includes some algorithms I'm keen to protect. I understand no method will be perfect, but what's the generally accepted method for doing this? I'd like my clients to be able to code against the API but I don't want them to reverse engineer what's inside (at least I don't want to make it easy for them). If I obfuscate the code, won't that also obfuscate the API? We're looking at smartAssembly any thoughts comments on the product would be appreciated.

• Can you Borrow a PDF?

  What are the legalities of letting someone borrow a book that you have purchased that so happens to be in PDF format with no DRM? I know that I can lend a printed book to someone and this not infringe copyright, but a pdf? I know that the thought police are going to be on my case about "no one here is a legal expert" or the "question can't be answered" or "controversial", But I would like to have the opportunity to at least surface the issue, and allow people to comment. • Java generic Interface performance

  Simple question, but tricky answer I guess. Does using Generic Interfaces hurts performance? Example: public interface Stuff<T> { void hello(T var); } vs public interface Stuff { void hello(Integer var); <---- Integer used just as an example } My first thought is that it doesn't. Generics are just part of the language and the compiler will optimize it as though there were no generics (at least in this particular case of generic interfaces). Is this correct?

• Is there a way to only have StyleCop documenation requirements SA1600 on public methods/properties?

  I've been using XMLDoc for a few years now, and have definitely grown into the mindset for supplying quality documentation for public methods and properties. However under StyleCop (and particularly its Resharper highlighting) I've noticed that the documentation requirements apply to identically to public, internal, protected and private methods. This seems a little counter-intuative to me, so I would ideally like to suppress it down to suggestions at least for private methods. Unfortunately it does seem as if the suppress setting is only across all public, internal, private, etc. Am I missing something or is this by design?

  Here's an interesting one for you folks... I have a HABTM (has_and_belongs_to_many) relationship between "Dogs" and "Trips". My goal is to find two result sets: 1) Dogs that have been on at least 1 of the last 3 trips and call that @dogs_current 2) Dogs that have NOT been on any of the last 3 trips and call that @dogs_old I found that I can find what the last 3 trips are by doing this in the Trip model: named_scope :last3, :order => 'date DESC', :limit => 3 But not sure how to use that list get 1 and 2. This hack works, but it seems ugly. There must be a better way! :) @dogs_current = [] @dogs_old = [] @dogs.each do |dog| if (Trip.last3 - dog.trips).size < 3 then @dogs_current << dog else @dogs_old << dog end end Any ideas?   I have a ListView in WPF, and I want to hide the headers for the ListView when the List the ItemsSource is bound to is null, and display the headers when the ItemsSource is not null and has at least 1 item in the collection. There are two different ways (at least) to set the DataContext. One can use XAML or one can use the code behind. What is the 'best practice' and why? I tend to favor setting it in XAML because it allows a designer to define collections on their own but I need 'ammunition' on why it's a best practice or why I'm crazy and the code behind is the bomb...

  In c# you can use as to convert a type or get null: Object o = Whatever(); String s = o as String; Is there a similar easy way to achieve this in c++? I'm using Visual Studio 2010, if thats important. [update] Remember, there is a very important difference between casting and using as. Casting (at least in c#) will throw an exception if the type does not match: Object o = null; String s = (String)o; // will crash.

• Is there any way that I can draw fast a chart with too many series? [on hold]

  I have a project that need to draw a fast chart with many series. I must change start position of drawing to a favor position when user want. .Net Chart is slow in lots of series. I wanted to use this library: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/32836/A-simple-C-library-for-graph-plotting?msg=4109664#xx4109664xx but loading speed is too slow when count of series increases. When I plot the chart, I must invalidate the chart for updates, drawing speed will be too slow if there are too many series. I need at least 900 series in a chart for this project. I wanted to use multiple layer series to decrease invalidate rate with the idea: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/84833/Drawing-multiple-layers-without-flicker I do not know this idea would be helpful. I tested LightningChart control but it could not help me.
