• Parsing Complex Text File with C#

  Hello, I need to parse a text file that has a lot of levels and characters. I've been trying different ways to parse it but I haven't been able to get anything to work. I've included a sample of the text file I'm dealing with. Any suggestions on how I can parse this file? I have denoted the parts of the file I need with TEXTINEED. • How to ensure that a Serialized object is completely read over a Socket ?

  Hi guys, I am trying to write a socket server and Client that communicate with each other via serialized Objects.eg:To Login, Client sends server a serialized Login object and then the server deserialises the object to read login details. Similarly for other types of request/response. I just wanted to be sure if Socket.receive() can read(untill) large serialized objects completely. • The best way to display data in a table view?

  Hey guys, I'm trying to display nutritional information in a table view but am struggling about the best way to show the info. I don't want to create unique views for each page as that would take up a lot of space. My ideal avenue would be like a website having links to data pages instead of individual views for each page. How would I best implement that? For example, I would want the first page to be a list of restaurants, then as you press the restaurant it would list the different types of food...the next page would be a list of those foods and then the final page would be the nutrition info itself. And i have particular classes public class Result : EntityObject, IDataObject .... public class ResultDataManager : BaseDataManager<Result> ... I want to implement service locator, which will return instance of IDataManager<T> for T But I stucked how to implement it in a neat way without a lot of castings. Any ideas?

• Only compiles as an array of pointers, not array of arrays

  Suppose I define two arrays, each of which have 2 elements (for theoretical purposes): char const *arr1[] = { "i", "j" }; char const *arr2[] = { "m", "n" }; Is there a way to define a multidimensional array that contains these two arrays as elements? I was thinking of something like the following, but my compiler displays warnings about incompatible types: char const *combine[][2] = { arr1, arr2 }; The only way it would compile was to make the compiler treat the arrays as pointers: char const *const *combine[] = { arr1, arr2 }; Is that really the only way to do it or can I preserve the type somehow (in C++, the runtime type information would know it is an array) and treat combine as a multidimensional array? I realise it works because an array name is a const pointer, but I'm just wondering if there is a way to do what I'm asking in standard C/C++ rather than relying on compiler extensions. Perhaps I've gotten a bit too used to Python's lists where I could just throw anything in them...

What I am curious about the impact of programming ability. I know you usually write a masters thesis on some topic, which I imagine forces you to specialize. Do your programming skills actually get rusty while getting a masters, or is there some benefit? Would it be more beneficial to work for the two years instead?

• Solr date field tdate vs date?

  So I have a question about Solr's field date types which is pretty straight forward: what's the difference between a 'date' field and a 'tdate' one? The schema .xml claims that 'For faster range queries, consider the tdate type' and 'A Trie based date field for faster date range queries and date faceting. ' Fair enough... but what's the precisionStep="6" all about? should i change this? does it change the way i would create the query in case I use the tdate? What's the real advantage or what does Solr do that makes it better? P.S went through google, Solr manual, solr wiki and the java docs without any luck so I'd appreciate a kind and explanatory answer :)...   Hi, see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/695752/product-table-many-kinds-of-product-each-product-has-many-parameters for similar topic. My question: i want to design a database, that will be used for a production facility of different types of products where each product has its own (number of) parameters. because i want the serial numbers to be in one tabel for overview purposes i have a problem with these different paraeters . One solution could be AEV, but it has its downsides, certainly because we have +- 5 products with every product +- 20.000 serial numbers (records). it looks a bit overkill to me... I just don't know how one could design a database so that you have an attribute in a mastertable that says: 'hey, you could find details of this record in THAT detail-table". 'in a way that you qould easely query the results) currenty i am using Visual Basic & Acces 2007. but i'm going to Visual Basic & MySQL. thanks for your help. Bob

  Hi Ladies and Gents. I'd like some help converting the following UML diagram: UML Diagram The diagram shows 4 classes and is related to a Loyalty card scheme for an imaginary supermarket. I'd like to create an object relational data base schema from it for use with Oracle 10g/11g. Not sure where to begin, if somebody could give me a head start that would be great. Looking for actually starting the schema, show abstraction, constraints, types(subtypes, supertypes) methods and functions.   I try to write a kind of object/record serializer with Delphi 2010 and wonder if there is a way to detect, if a record is a variant record. E.g. the TRect record as defined in Types.pas: TRect = record case Integer of 0: (Left, Top, Right, Bottom: Longint); 1: (TopLeft, BottomRight: TPoint); end; As my serializer should work recursively on my data structures, it will descent on the TPoint records and generate redundant information in my serialized file. Is there a way to avoid this, by getting detailed information on the record?

I'm receiving draggingEntered: and returning an appropriate value, but I'm never receiving prepareForDragOperation: (nor any of the methods after that in the process). • Ideas for building vulnerabilities into your site?

  I'm trying to create a programming challenge that would require developers to hack into the MVC site I create. The idea is obviously to teach them about preventing these types of attacks. The current idea I have is to build multiple vulnerabilities into the site - but the second vulnerability would require the first to be completed, etc. So I was thinking the first could be a sql injection attack, the second would require a modified GET request, etc. Exploiting the final vulnerability would reveal a specific piece of information which is proof that you have completed the entire challenge. This will not be deployed on a public site - it's simply a learning tool for developers at my company. I'm not looking for MVC-specific vulnerabilities - I'm simply using MVC because it allows me to work with the 'raw' HTML. Any ideas on the different vulnerabilities I can use?

  So this is more of a generalized question about MySQLs data types. I'd like to store a 5-digit US zip code (zip_code) properly in this example. A county has 10 different cities and 5 different zip codes. city | zip code -------+---------- city 0 | 33333 city 1 | 11111 city 2 | 22222 city 3 | 33333 city 4 | 44444 city 5 | 55555 city 6 | 33333 city 7 | 33333 city 8 | 44444 city 9 | 22222 I would typically structure a table like this as varchar(50), int(5) and not think twice about it. (1) If we wanted to ensure that this table had only one of 5 different zip codes we should use the enum data type, right? Now think of a similar scenario on a much larger scale. In a state, there are five-hundred cities with 418 different zip codes. (2) Should I store 418 zip codes as an enum data type OR as an int and create another table to reference?

• Why don't Domain class static methods work from inside a grails "service"?

  I want a grails service to be able to access Domain static methods, for queries, etc. For example, in a controller, I can call IncomingCall.count() to get the number of records in table "IncomingCall" but if I try to do this from inside a service, I get the error: org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'incomingStatusService': Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method: static ms.wdw.tropocontrol.IncomingCall.count() is applicable for argument types: () values: [] How do these methods get injected? There's no magic def statement in a controller that appears to do this. Or is the problem that Hibernate isn't available from my Service class?

• Are indivisible operations still indivisible on multiprocessor and multicore systems?

  As per the title, plus what are the limitations and gotchas. For example, on x86 processors, alignment for most data types is optional - an optimisation rather than a requirement. That means that a pointer may be stored at an unaligned address, which in turn means that pointer might be split over a cache page boundary. Obviously this could be done if you work hard enough on any processor (picking out particular bytes etc), but not in a way where you'd still expect the write operation to be indivisible. I seriously doubt that a multicore processor can ensure that other cores can guarantee a consistent all-before or all-after view of a written pointer in this unaligned-write-crossing-a-page-boundary situation. Am I right? And are there any similar gotchas I haven't thought of?

Can it somehow convert 2 to 1.999 and then to 1 if I call MyConvert<int>("2") ? I was wondering why the Convert class isn't templated in the first place? (That would let me call Convert<T> instead of Convert.ToDouble() for all types) This is C++/Cli so I can use any convert methods in c++ or .net, but I only know Convert.ToDouble()|ToString()|ToInt32()) Thanks

What is more flexible and "right" to work with one huge DataTable in Cache with whole data from all users and then loop thought DataTable to find certain user data or to cache each user ie. cacheObj + userID... User can filter his own results by dates and types which is why i need flexible and reliable solution thanks...

If the row is not there, add it to the result with Amt = 0. For example: - PJ00001 have 2 rows of type 1,2 in 2012 -- OK. But in 2011, it only have 1 row of Type 1 -- We add one row:PJ00001 2011 2 0 - PJ00002 have only 1 row of type 1 -- add:PJ00002 2012 2 0 Is there a way to easily do it.
