• Is it possible to exclude folders from a web application project in vs 2010?

  I had previously asked this question. At the time I was working with VS 2008. To restate the question. I have a web application that generates 1000's of small xml files in a certain directory. I would like to exclude this directory from the web application project in visual studio 2010. With vs 2008 it was not possible. Has anything changed? Besides the general wait for VS to iterate through this directory and add an item in the solution explorer for each file, it also strains my system resources, so I would like to exclude it from the project, but the dir and files need to physically exist on disk, because they are part of the application. • What is an appropriate way to programmatically exit an application?

  I am evaluating user inputs as commands for my application. If the user presses Q, or q, and then hits enter, the application quits and execution terminates. Is there a proper context, or best practices on how to do that? I do not have any resources to release, or anything like that. Should I just use System.exit(0);? Is there a recommended way to do that? • Error in tunneling service on VMC

  I've push an app to my CF on cloud_controller paas.azure4j.us with uri yamashowcase.azure4j.us . • Two part form in Rails

  I have some two nested resources, so that a Product can have many Bookings. On one page in a different controller I want to create a new booking and since it's a "general" booking I want a select menu to appear in a modal window where the user is able to pick one of the existing products and then go to the booking page. How can I do this? I have no problem setting up the modal and the "New booking" page is already there. What I need is a form that generates a list of existing products, picks the selected product id and then gets /products/:product_id/bookings/new . Any help appreciated! I realize my title does not describe my problem very good so better suggestions are highly welcome!

• Secure way to run other people code (sandbox) on my server?

  I want to make a web service that run other people code locally... Naturally, I want to limit their code access to certain "sandbox" directory, and that they wont be able to connect to other parts of my server (DB, main webserver, etc) Whats the best way to do it? Run VMware/Virtualbox: (+) I guess it's as secure as it gets.. even if someone manage to "hack".. they only hack the guest machine (+) can limit the cpu & memory the process uses (+) easy to setup.. just create the VM (-) harder to "connect" the sandbox directory from the host to the guest (-) wasting extra memory and cpu for managing the VM Run underprivileged user: (+) doesnt waste extra resources (+) sandbox directory is just a plain directory (?) cant limit cpu and memory? (?) dont know if it's secure enough... Any other way? Server running Fedora Core 8, the "other" codes written in Java & C++

• Java concurrency - Should block or yield?

  Hi, I have multiple threads each one with its own private concurrent queue and all they do is run an infinite loop retrieving messages from it. It could happen that one of the queues doesn't receive messages for a period of time (maybe a couple seconds), and also they could come in big bursts and fast processing is necessary. I would like to know what would be the most appropriate to do in the first case: use a blocking queue and block the thread until I have more input or do a Thread.yield()? I want to have as much CPU resources available as possible at a given time, as the number of concurrent threads may increase with time, but also I don't want the message processing to fall behind, as there is no guarantee of when the thread will be reescheduled for execution when doing a yield(). I know that hardware, operating system and other factors play an important role here, but setting that aside and looking at it from a Java (JVM?) point of view, what would be the most optimal?

• Preventing the "[YourProgramName] has stopped working" dialog on unhandled exceptions.

  I have a WinForm application, with some dependencies on an external library that can on occasion cause an exception outside of the running threads context. As it stands now, this is completely OK behavior ( well, except of course the exception ) and we wired up AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException to simply restart the program. The only problem is, the [Your Program] has stopped working like the one below, appears: Is there a way to prevent this dialog from appearing at all, be it in the AppDomain unhandled exception handler or in a config setting, as no end users are going to be reading it and it just holds up resources until it is clicked.

• Eclipse and SVN: Missing .project file.

  Hi, I'm working on a uni project with a few other people using SVN. Much to my annoyance the .project file was removed from the repository since "it contains platform specific information". However, this has obviously broken my setup in Eclipse, giving me the error: Problems occurred opening the selected resources. The project description file (.project) for '___' is missing. This file contains important information about the project. The project will not function properly until this file is restored. Any suggestions? Thank you.

• Host unavailable when user is logged off

  I am facing a problem that I discovered while I was implementing a small client/host application. The client side runs Windows 7 64-bit and machine never turns off but user is automatically logged off after 30 minutes of inactivity. When user is automatically logged off the host becomes unreachable, first I thought the problem was isolated to my application, but after som investigation I discoverd that resources and vnc server is also unavailable. The question might be a bit off limit for this forum but I can't find any reasonable explanation somewhere else. Does anyone know how I can keep user being logged off automatically but with the host still reachable on the network?

• Becoming better at Vim

  I've been using Vim for quite a long time, but I'm at a level where I use insert mode most of the time, and I still use the arrow keys to move around(!). I feel like I'm not getting the best out of my lovely editor, particularly regarding navigating (especially code), copy & pasting, and doing other manipulations of existing code. • Querying a smalldatetime's date and time seperately in SQL server?

  Imagine a table that has two fields, a smalltimedate and an int and about 1000 rows of data. What I'm attempting to do in query is to find the average of the INT field for rows between 3/3/2010 - 3/13/2010 and only if the entry is between 6:00am - 11:00pm. I tried between '2010-03-03 06:00 AND 2010-03-13 23:00' However that only restricts that very beginning and end times. I could do this with a loop but I'm going to need to have the same query run over much larger date ranges and this will quickly eat server resources. Is there a way to query date and time seperately?

• Low-overhead way to access the memory space of a traced process?

  Hello all. I'm looking for an efficient way to access(for both read and write operations) the memory space of my ptraced child process. The size of blocks being accessed may vary from several bytes up to several megabytes in size, so using the ptrace call with PTRACE_PEEKDATA and PTRACE_POKEDATA which read only one word at a time and switch context every time they're called seems like a pointless waste of resources. The only one alternative solution I could find, though, was the /proc/<pid>/mem file, but it has long since been made read only. Is there any other (relatively simple) way to do that job? The ideal solution would be to somehow share the address space of my child process with its parent and then use the simple memcpy call to copy data I need in both directions, but I have no clues how to do it and where to begin. Any ideas?

• J2ME polish problems when running on the phones

  I built an application with j2me polish,it works well on emulator but after installing on phones, I have some basic problems: At first why the size of application is big(in my case 1.5 mb),is there any way to decrease polish apps size(my resources are just 300 kb). For installing it on the phone, I copy the jar file from dist folder; Is my way correct?   I come across code such as "personObj=new Object();" where a new object called personObj is being defined. What I'm trying to find out is whether Object() is a prefined function in javascript, because I understand by using the mentioned code, a instance of a class is being formed but in the example code where I'm studying from, the class Object() is not being defined anywhere, so I was wondering if Object() was a predefined function in javascript and whether I can be directed to some online resources, as all that shows up in google when I try to find Object() are articles in general javascript object oriented programming.

  hi, My needs are very simple: I have a Tip table to receive comments and have comments to receive comments, too. To retrieve each comment that is stored in the same table (comments), I created another key for the comments on comments: "inverse_comments". I tried to use one comments table by using self-referntial association. Some resources seem to bring more than one table into the piture which are diffent from my needs. So I came up whth the following modeling for comments: class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :tip belongs_to :user has_many :mycomments, :through => :inverse_comments, :source => :comment end Apparently something is missing here but I cannot figure it out. Could some one enlighten me on this: what changes I need to do to make the model work? thanks.

Digging about it is simple like: @Path("/resources) public class MyResource { @GET @Path("{subResources:.*}/bar") public String get() {...} } But, I'm only capable of using regex if in my @Path contains a variable or text value, example: @Path("{SubResource1}/{subResources:.*}/bar") Or @Path("hardCodeString/{subResources:.*}/bar") Today I could run with this solution of a variable, but is not oK for my perspective. Question Does anyone have worked with something related? I'm doing something wrong? I think that this could be a bug, when working with more then one @Path, one in the Class and other in the Method. • C#: Resource file refactoring

  Does anyone know of a good tool for refactoring resources in a visual studio 2008 solution? We have a number of resource files with translated text in an assembly used for localizing our application. But they have gotten a bit messy... I would like to rename some of the keys, and move some of them into other resource files. And I would like those changes be done in my code, and the translated versions of the resource files as well. Maybe a some analysis on what strings are missing in the translated versions, and what strings have been removed from the original as well... Does anyone know of a good visual studio extension or ReSharper plugin that can help me with this? Right now it is kind of a pain, because I have to first rename the key in the base resource file, then in the localized versions. And then compile to get all the compile errors resulting from the key which now have a different name, and then go through and fix them all... very annoying =/

• Is object clearing/array deallocation really necessary in VB6/VBA (Pros/Cons?)

  Hello, A lot of what I have learned about VB I learned from using Static Code Analysis (Particularly Aivosto's Project Analyzer). And one one of things it checks for is whether or not you cleared all objects and arrays. I used to just do this blindly because PA said so. But now that I know a little bit more about the way VB releases resources, it seems to me that these things should be happening automatically. Is this a legacy feature from pre VB6, or is there a reason why you should explicitly set objects back to nothing and use Erase on arrays?

I've programmed in C for 3 years and C++ for a year and now I am moving to C#.
