  • Creating a simple command line interface (CLI) using a python server (TCP sock) and few scripts

    I have a Linux box and I want to be able to telnet into it (port 77557) and run few required commands without having to access to the whole Linux box. So, I have a server listening on that port, and echos the entered command on the screen. (for now) Telnet 192.168.1.100 77557 Trying 192.168.1.100... Connected to 192.168.1.100. Escape character is '^]'. hello<br /> You typed: "hello"<br /> NOW: I want to create lot of commands that each take some args and have error codes. Anyone has done this before? It would be great if I can have the server upon initialization go through each directory and execute the init.py file and in turn, the init.py file of each command call into a main template lib API (e.g. RegisterMe()) and register themselves with the server as function call backs. At least this is how I would do it in C/C++. But I want the best Pythonic way of doing this. /cmd/ /cmd/myreboot/ /cmd/myreboot/ini.py (note underscore don't show for some reason) /cmd/mylist/ /cmd/mylist/init.py ... etc IN: /cmd/myreboot/_ini_.py: from myMainCommand import RegisterMe RegisterMe(name="reboot",args=Arglist, usage="Use this to reboot the box", desc="blabla") So, repeating this creates a list of commands and when you enter the command in the telnet session, then the server goes through the list, matches the command and passed the args to that command and the command does the job and print the success or failure to stdout.     Hi there! I have an hierachical XML data, and I want to display it as a tree. The XML data is something like this: <services> <service name="TestService" endpoint=""> <method name="sayHi"> <parameter name="firstName" /> <parameter name="lastName" /> </method> <method name="sayGoodbye"> <parameter name="firstName" /> <parameter name="lastName" /> </method> </service> <service name="AnotherTestService"> <method name="getName" /> <method name="setName"> <parameter name="name" /> </method> </service> </services> However, I don't want to display the last elements (parameters) in the tree because, well, it is not meant to be displayed, but still it has to be there. Any advice on how can I achieve that? I am thinking of either extending DefaultDataDescriptor or create a class which implement ITreeDataDescriptor. Which approach will be suitable in this case?

    In my Android application, I use a bunch of open source libraries such as libyuv, libvpx, libcrypto, libssl, etc. Some of them come with Android.mk. For others, I hand-crafted Android.mk. The code is built only for arm for now. Here is my Application.mk: APP_ABI := armeabi-v7a APP_OPTIM := release APP_STL := gnustl_static APP_CPPFLAGS := -frtti I am looking for way to generate binaries that are optimized for neon. Browsing the net, I found the following setting that someone is using in his Android.mk: LOCAL_CFLAGS += -mfloat-abi=softfp -mfpu=neon -march=armv7 I wonder if I simply put this setting in Application.mk, will it automatically get applied across all the libraries? A step before each library is built is the following: include $(CLEAR_VARS) Is it better to include LOCAL_CFLAGS directive after this line (instead of including it in Application.mk)? Finally, why doesn't ndk-build automatically optimize for neon when it sees armabi in Application.mk? Regards.

    My application contains a set of model classes. e.g. Person, Department... The user changes values for instances of these classes in the UI and the classes are persisted to my "project" file. Next time the user can open and edit the project. Next version of my product may change the model classes drastically. It will still need to open existing projects files (I will know how to handle missing data). How is it best to persist my model classes to the project file? The easiest way to persist classes is Data contract serialization. However it will fail on breaking changes (I expect to have such). How to handle this? use some other persistence, e.g. name-value collection or db which is more tolerance ship a "project converter" application to migrate old projects. This requires to either ship with both old and new models or to manipulate xml, which is best?

There is a Textbox and I attached KeyDown event handler to it. when the user press the arrow key ( left or right) while the focus on the textbox, it will write . or -. When it is window form i used e.KeyCode and Keys.Right and its works great but when it is silverlight I used e.Key and key.Right and the program doesn't work good because the arrows do the 2 functions moving and write ./-. How I can work this out in Silverlight?     I´m trying to use an external XML file to map the output from a stored procedure into an instance of a class. The problem is that my class is of a generic type: public class MyValue<T> { public T Value { get; set; } } Searching through a lot of blogs an articles I've managed to get this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <Database Name="" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/linqtosql/mapping/2007"> <Table Name="MyValue" Member="MyNamespace.MyValue`1" > <Type Name="MyNamespace.MyValue`1"> <Column Name="Category" Member="Value" DbType="VarChar(100)" /> </Type> </Table> <Function Method="GetResourceCategories" Name="myprefix_GetResourceCategories" > <ElementType Name="MyNamespace.MyValue`1"/> </Function> </Database> The MyNamespace.MyValue`1 trick works fine, and the class is recognized. I expect four rows from the stored procedure, and I'm getting four MyValue<string> instances, but the big problem is that the property Value for the all four instances is null. The property is not getting mapped and I don't really get why. Maybe worth noting that the property Value is generic, and that when the mapping is done using attributes it works perfect. Anyone have a clue?   • Simple WCF question.

    So I am learning WCF and I have run across an issue that I believe has to do with Instance Control/State but I am not sure. Workflow is as follows, Basic client/server paradigm. The client calls a Method RetrieveBusinessObjects(criteria) and the server calls the datalayer and then puts them in an IList on the server side. It does not return this list to the calling Client. The client would then call a method say DisplayBusinessObjects() which would retrieve the IList from the Server, serialize them, bring them across the wire and display them. If i try this using the WCFTestClient it works. If I run it from an actual client then I get back an BusinessObject[] of size 0. Which to me indicates I had no objects to return. Is that a state mgmt issue or am I missing something?

Basically I have some XML like this: <countries> <country handle="bangladesh"/> <country handle="india"/> <country handle="pakistan"/> </countries> And some XSLT like this (which doesn’t work): <xsl:template match="/countries"> <xsl:param name="popular"/> <xsl:apply-templates select="country[count($popular/country[@handle = current()/@handle]) &gt; 0]" /> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="/countries/country"> … </xsl:template> I want to pass in a list of popular destinations like this: <popular> <country handle="india"/> <country handle="pakistan"/> </popular> …to the /countries template and have it only operate on the ones in the $popular param. At the moment this simply does nothing. Changing the selector to country[true()] operates on them all, so at least I know the basic structure is right. Any ideas? I think I may be getting confused by what is currently “current()”.

Now assume we're limited to HTTP GET. Is there some kind of a standard solution for encoding structured data in HTTP GET request parameters? I can easily imagine something like: Locale=en& Layout.Block.header=hide& Layout.Block.footer=hide& Layout.Block.navigation=minimize& Query.What=water& Query.When.Start=2010-01-01 But what I'm looking for is a "standard" syntax, if there's any. ps.
