  I have a page where a product appears on the right side and the user can add comment so i have a user control which gets all the comments and a small text area where user can add new comment for that product. the link of the page is like http://localhost/Product/TestComment/1 Where 1 indicates the id of the product and I have been hard coding my AddNote function below and fourth argument you see has been hard coded, but i need to pass that as the id of the product.   Hi, I am having a requirement, where I need to have a pie-chart, i need text around pie-chart , the text should be a hyperlink. Ex: we have 3 three fields A,B,C. A's ratio is 30%, B's ratio is 40%, c's ratio is 30% So pie chart gets divided into 3 parts, outside the graph , we should get the label A(in A's area only), when we point on , tool tip should say "A's ratio is 30 %'.   I would like to know the easiest way to format a string as accounting style. I know how to format as currency using {0:c} but there are some differences in accounting style, for example, all the dollar signs will line up as well as all the decimal points, and negatives are expressed in parenthesis rather than with a "-" minus sign. • IIS7 ASP.NET Session drops in seconds

  For testing I have 1 isolated page - no masters, controls, …. My sessions are lost after about 30 seconds. I’ve tried setting timeout on the page itself, in web.config, both, and neither. Tried forms authentication with timeout and windows authentication. Recycle the AppPool after changes. I can response.write from the Session_Start , but I never get any response.writes from the Session_End. Some things I’ve tried: <sessionState mode="InProc" stateConnectionString="tcpip=127.0.0.1:42424" sqlConnectionString="data source=127.0.0.1;" cookieless="false" timeout="20" /> <sessionState mode="InProc" cookieless="false" timeout="20"/> <sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="20"/> <sessionState timeout="20"/> No luck. They all work slightly differently, but they all have essentially the same summary comments.   I've used the built-in wizard in Visual Web Developer 2008 to create a simple login system. I'd like to get hold of the logged in user's ID, but I'm not sure how. Peeking in the ASPNETDB.MDF in the table aspnet_Users, the column appears to be called "UserId". I gave it a go: Response.Write("ID: " + Session["UserId"]); but it's coming up blank. How do I do this? (This is not for a live project, no need to point out the sillyness in using the wizard.) Thanks

  I have a web page which brings 13K+ records in 20 seconds. There is a menu on the page, clicking on which navigates me to another page which is very lightweight. Displaying the data (13K+) took only 20 seconds whereas navigating from that page took much longer, more than 2 mins. Can you tell me why is the latter taking so much of time. I've stopped the page_load code execution on click of the menu. I've disabled the viewstate for that page as well.

• Solutions for working with multiple branches in ASP.Net

  At work, we are often working on multiple branches of our product at one time. For example, right now, we have a maintenance branch, a branch with code just going to QA, and a branch for a new major initiative, that won't be merged for some time now. Our web project is set up to use IIS, so every time we switch to a different branch, we have to go in to IIS Admin and change the path on the virtual directory, then reset IIS, and sometimes even restart Visual Studio, to avoid getting build errors. Is there any way to simplify this, other than not having our web project set up as a virtual directory? I'm not sure we want to make that change at this point. What do you do to make this easier, assuming you do this? Corey @RedWolves, virtual machines would definitely work, but I'm not sure it would be any simpler, especially for some of the other developers on my team, which is partly why I'm looking for more simplicity. @Dan, we're not able to change source control providers, unfortunately. @pix0r, that's something I'll try when I get back to work. Thanks for the suggestion. @Haacked, I'll have to give that a try too, but I think we have some issues with why that won't work (I can't remember exactly why right now; this application was originally written in .Net 1.1, pre-Cassini, and I can't remember if we tried it when we upgraded to 2.0 or not).   Hello Everyone, I have a view that uses a javascript callback to reload a partial view. For whatever reason the contents of the partial class do not refresh even though i can step through the entire process and see the page being recalled and populated. Any reason why the page would not display?   Hi there, Does anyone know of a good link to explain how to use the web.config...... For example, i am using forms authentication... and i notice there is a system.web and then it closed /system.web and then below configuration there are additional location tags here is an example, if you ntoice there is an authentication mode=forms with authorization i presume this is the ROOT....... It is also self contained within a system.web .... Below this there are more location= with system.web tags.... I have never really understand what i am actually doing.. I have tried checkign the MSDN documentation but still i don't fully understand up.... Can anyone help?   Hi! I'm exhausted. I have installed GnuPG and exported secret key, and two public keys (my own and one of my client) from another instance of GnuPG. I try to configure 'my encrypting/decrypting' method on the local machine. When I run encrypting method from a little console application it works good. When I run this (same! - with the same body) method from my webservice on my local machine ... I have an ExitCode = 2. Happy in fact of catching the error message, but unhappy with their body. "gpg: no default secret key: secret key not available gpg: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.xml: sign+encrypt failed: secret key not available" What should I do? Whats wrong? Best regards, Karol Bladek

  So I have a complex form for an IncomeDeclaration. Its going to display a textfield GrossIncome for each Activity that the IncomeDeclaration is related to... this all gets done on the server and works just fine.... the problem is.   Following Post-Redirect-Get pattern as described in various spots but maybe in most detail here by Stephen Walter I want to use RedirectToAction but it does not accept a parameter for sending object to it. I can only send route values either as an object or as an RouteValueDictionary. So currently I send object ID and type and pull the object out of the datastore again in the action to which I redirected (like Results). // redirect to confirm view return RedirectToAction("ChangeSuccess", "Redirect", new { slug = tabgroup.Slug, contentType = tabgroup.ContentType }); But I would like to send an object there because I already have it in my updating controller action so I don't need to pull it out again. Is that possible somehow?

  Hi, I have an MVC view that contains a number of partial views. These partial views are populated using partial requests so the controller for the view itself doesn't pass any data to them. Is it possible to reload the data in one of those partial views if an action was triggered in another? For example, one partial view has a jqGrid and I want to refresh the data in another partial view when a user selects a new row in this grid. Is there a code example for this scenario (in C#) that I can look at to see what am I doing wrong? I am using ajax calls to trigger a new request but non of the partial views are refreshed so I am not sure if the issue is with the routing, the controller, or if this even possible at all! Thanks!

  I'm wanting to do a simple edit form for our Issue Tracking app. For simplicity, the HttpGet Edit action looks something like this: // Issues/Edit/12 public ActionResult Edit(int id) { var thisIssue = edmx.Issues.First(i => i.IssueID == id); return View(thisIssue); } and then the HttpPost action looks something like this: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Edit(int id, FormCollection form) { // this is the dumb part where I grab the object before I update it. // concurrency is sidestepped here. var thisIssue = edmx.Issues.Single(c => c.IssueID == id); TryUpdateModel(thisIssue); if (ModelState.IsValid) { edmx.SaveChanges(); TempData["message"] = string.Format("Issue #{0} successfully modified.", id); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } return View(thisIssue); } Which works wonderfully. However, the concurrency check doesn't work because in the Post, I'm re-retreiving the current entity right before I attempt to update it. However, with EF, I don't know how to use the fanciness of SaveChanges() but attach my thisIssue to the context. I tried to call edmx.Issues.Attach(thisIssue) but I get The object cannot be attached because it is already in the object context. An object can only be reattached when it is in an unchanged state. How do I handle concurrency in MVC with EF and/or how do I properly Attach my edited object to the context? Thanks in advance

Anyone know how to query Microsoft's Sys.Mvc.FormValidation to see if the form passed it's test so I can prevent the busy animation showing if the form hasn't actually been submitted? Or even some other work-around? • Debugging ASP.NET Strings Downloaded to Browser

  I'm downloading a vCard to the browser using Response.Write to output .NET strings with special accented characters. Mime type is text/x-vcard and French characters are appearing wrong in Outlook, for example Montréal;Québec .NET string shows as Montréal Québec in browser. I'm using this vCard code from CodeProject.com I've played with the System.Encoding sample code at the bottom of this linked MSDN page to convert the unicode string into bytes and then write the ascii bytes but then I get Montr?al Qu?bec (progress but not a win). Also I've tried setting content type to both us-ascii and utf-8 of the response. Apparently the vcard file downloads as unicode. If I save it as ASCII text and open in Outlook it's okay. So my assumption is I need to cause download of ASCII but am unsure if I'm doing it wrong or have a misunderstanding of where to start.
