• Pull dynamic string out of embedded RESX

  I have a RESX resource file that I can retrieve the values out of using the strongly typed properties and assign to values in my Silverlight 3 app. However at runtime I need to generate the lookup key based on some values to avoid a ton of if/switch statements. I'm trying to use the ResourceManager, but it doesn't like .resx files. Searched far and wide... is this just not possible in SL3? Does anyone have another suggestion?

• Would it be smarter to setup a Linux development server at home, or to use a hosted server?

  I am in the process of learning as much as I can about LAMP. I was wondering if I should set a web server on my home network, or use a service like Rackspace (cloud space)? I need to have root access, to be able to access it remotely via SSH/FTP/HTTP, and to be able to install things like subversion, etc. I currently have Comcast so I have plenty of bandwidth, but I am not sure if this would violate the TOS, and/or compromise the security of my home network. Pricing for these cloud hosts, seems reasonable ($11 per month plus about $0.10 per GB of bandwidth), but I am not sure if I will have to control I am looking for.

• I'm an emacs user. How do I learn vim?

  Most of the time, I use emacs. However, I've decided to try to learn vim. I'm happy with emacs, I just am trying to avoid having it turn into Maslow's Hammer. I've seen a few tutorials, but I have yet to see a good one written from the standpoint of someone coming from emacs. Is there any general advice that someone who's undergone this learning process before can give me? Most importantly, what are some concepts in Vim that may not be intuitive to me coming from an emacs background?

  What is the best free software to learn touch-typing? Features it needs to have: should NOT display the keyboard layout on the screen! should give detailed statistics which actually measure progress (for which key do I have the highest error rate, graphs showing how typing speed improved over time, etc) should enable me to actually learn touch-typing in about one long weekend were I don't do much else than learning to touch-type. it would be very good if it were possible to load a text-file and the program will use words from the text-file for the exercises as well My goals are: at least same typing speed as I have now but which touch-typing, want to be able to look at the screen only when typing P.S.: EDIT: I forgot to mention, I'm using Win 7. And I know what the Dvorak and Colemak keyboard layouts are, but I'm not interested in them. My question was with respect to standard US keyboard layout.

I'm looking for alternatives to the Delphi suite (so don't give it as an answer), something that would allow me to write Windows GUI applications with ease. I don't care about the language, as long as it gets the job done, but I would appreciate if your suggestions avoid functional languages. Even better if it abstracts the windowing system with something more simple than the winAPI.

• Save simple data in Magento's DB w/o Model

  I'm looking to save some data in the Magento database without hassling with creating a new EAV object (or even a DB table if I can avoid it). Is there any place that you all know about that Magento will let you store serialized data? If it matters, the data is a serialized set of SKUs that I need to retrieve.   I'm trying to pick an IP telephony technology to learn. I heard of Asterisk, trixbox, freePBX, and my head was already spinning being not sure what to learn.   I'm completely new to the world of Xcode. Since my MacBook is too old for installing the newest Xcode version, I'm trying to learn with Xcode 3.2.6. Now I go through a book for learning Objective C with Xcode and I have problems to find several buttons. I already needed to let the green "Run"-button view manually via "customize toolbar", but the buttons to have access to the log navigator still do not appear and I don't know how to do it. That's how my Xcode looks like right now: That's what I'm searching: How can I view those buttons? Is there another way to access to the log navigator?
