• Optimal partition setup for Windows 7 on SSD

  Hello, I'm setting up my system with Windows 7 right now, with knowledge that I am going to be getting a SSD in the future. What optimizations/setup should I do now to make a smoother transition in the future? Should I created two partitions - one for the OS and one for the data? Assuming this is the case, I would be able to easily ghost my OS partition onto the SSD in the future. If so, what should go on the OS drive besides the OS? Program files? If I install games or Visual Studio, should it go on the OS drive or the data drive? I can see the SSD filling up fast if I install all my program files on there. I've seen a few posts where people talk about leaving a portion of the SSD unformatted - is this something I should do? Thanks!

• How do I configure Ubuntu Server as Primary Domain Controller for Windows 7

  I have a Mac server running OS X Server 10.5 Server and as a PDC for our Windows XP systems. I'd like to use the OS X Server as a PDC for our Windows 7 boxes but the version of Samba in OS X Server is not compatible with Windows 7. It appears that my best bet is to use Ubuntu Server as my PDC. I want the Windows boxes to obtain authentication information from the Mac Server's LDAP. Any suggestions are appreciated.

• ajax redirect dillema, how to get redirect URL OR how to set properties for redirect request

  First, I'm working in Google Chrome, if that helps. Here is the behavior: I send an xhr request via jquery to a remote site (this is a chrome Extension, and I've set all of the cross-site settings...): $.ajax({ type: "POST", contentType : "text/xml", url: some_url, data: some_xml, username: user, password: pass, success: function(data,status,xhr){ alert(data); }, error: function(xhr, status, error){ alert(xhr.status); } }); The URL that is being set returns a 302 (this is expected), and Chrome follows the redirect (also expected). The new URL returns a prompt for credentials, which are not being pulled from the original request, so Chrome shows a login dialog. If I put in the original credentials, I get back a response about invalid request sent (it's a valid HTTP request -- 200 -- the remote server just doesn't like one of the headers). When viewing the developer window in Chrome, there are two requests sent. The first is to the original URL with all settings set in the ajax request. The second is to the redirect URL, with a method of "GET", nothing from the "POST" field, and no credentials. I am at a loss as to what I can do. I either need to: Get the redirect URL so I can send a second request (xhr.getResponseHeader("Location") does NOT work), Have the new redirect request preserver the settings from the original request, or Get the final URL that the error came from so I can send another request. Ideally I don't want the user to have to put in their credentials a second time in this dialog box, but I'll take what I can get if I can just get the final URL.

• Cannot turn off autocommit in a script using the Django ORM

  I have a command line script that uses the Django ORM and MySQL backend. I want to turn off autocommit and commit manually. For the life of me, I cannot get this to work. Here is a pared down version of the script. It is a basic zip file, but a bit modified: "Cr24" + derkey + signature + zipFile And here comes the problem. There are only two CRX creators, written in Ruby or Python. • Optimizing code using PIL

  Firstly sorry for the long piece of code pasted below. This is my first time actually having to worry about performance of an application so I haven't really ever worried about performance. This piece of code pretty much searches for an image inside another image, it takes 30 seconds to run on my computer, converting the images to greyscale and other changes shaved of 15 seconds, I need another 15 shaved off. I did read a bunch of pages and looked at examples but I couldn't find the same problems in my code. So any help would be greatly appreciated. • Accessing WebKit Devtools JavaScript library

  I noticed something in Chrome the other day- I had opened Developer Tools, and then hit view source and was initially surprised to notice that apparently the developer tools window is coded in HTML and JavaScript- you can see that by putting the following into the Chrome address bar: view-source:chrome://devtools/devtools.html Two things struck me- first, the codes copyright belongs to Apple (considering their backing of WebKit, thats not too surprising), and secondly, it appears that you cannot access the JavaScript, CSS or Image files directly through Chrome by clicking on links in the source code. So two questions: Where are the DevTools assets stored on my computer or how can I otherwise access them? Or even better, can someone identify the library that is used and let me know how its licensed? I'm always on the look out for a well implemented UI toolkit- and Devtools looks great.

  I'm not a flasher, but i did a menu for site on flash i have about 10 buttons working like hyperlink using getURL. So, problem is: it works perfectly on my netbook (Win XP - Mozilla/Chrome/IE - last flash player) it works perfectly on my wife's laptop (Vista - Mozilla/chrome/IE - last flash player) But it does not work at all on my employer's computers (XP/Vista - Mozilla/Chrome - last flash player) I'm using swfobject (i'm not sure what version is, but i think it's 2.x) Do you have any ideas?

• Problem making local copy of a webpage

  I want to run this chrome experiment locally. I copied the .html and .js files, along with the two .jpgs that the demo uses. However, when I run it off my local drive, Chrome gives this error: light.js:89 - Uncaught Error: SECURITY_ERR: DOM Exception 18 Line 89 returns the image data from the canvas after drawing the image to it. What's causing this security exception? It seems to not be Chrome-specific, as Firefox gives the same error.

I tried to insert a time.sleep(2) after each cmdprocess.stdin.write in case Python is just too fast for the cmd process, but it doesn't help. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

  hello ol. I have a div having two buttons inside it as |Add| and |Cancel|. I didnt set any width to that div intially and as a result they were displayed vertically not in horizontal.then i add width in % to 11.5%.now the display is ok in moz but not in chrome and ie.i cant use pixels neither in height nor width.problem explanied by example |_______| // a textbox |Add| //initially with no width |Cancel| //after width to 11.5% in moz |_______| |Add| |Cancel| //after width to 11.5% in chrome and ie |_______| |Add| |Cancel| so u can see that in moz it is aligned to the above textbox but not in ie and chrome.hope sum ie hack or chrome hack may lead to correct result..or ONLY a MOZ hack..

• Assign click event to addon icon on navigation bar

  We have created a chrome extension for our app. Where we call a METHOD from a "js file" on CLICK event of the "extension icon" placed on the navigation bar. For this we use message passing between the app.js (file containing the METHOD to be called on icon click) and background.html (using a js file included in this html). The script used to pass message is:(from background.html) chrome.browserAction.onClicked.addListener(function (tab) { chrome.tabs.sendMessage(tab.id, "showPopup"); }); and to listen the message :(in app.js) chrome.extension.onMessage.addListener(function(request) { if (request === "showPopup") { showPopup(); } }); The click event works as expected. But now we want to do same thing in mozilla extension. and we can't pass message to app.js on the click of the icon,so that it can execute the containing methods. • Why is Firefox so bloated? [closed]

  First off I am a developer who loves firebug and other development tools (and no Chrome firebug lite does not cut it) and am just utterly frustrated when I have been using Firefox lately. It is at the point where I use Chrome for absolutely everything but web development but am still frustrated that I had to switch where half a year ago or more Firefox was fine. Why can't there be a Firefox lite? One that is free from all the bloat that has been plaguing Firefox recently. Also if there are any tools or tips that I can free up my Firefox that would be great. I am using the newest version + as few add-ons as possible. EDIT: I have tried Chrome Developer Tools and I do like them...but I can't get passed the firebug lite extension of Chrome. Some of the developer tools are great but sometimes they just have too much information. I extensively use Firebug/myphp admin. Both of these work much much better in Firefox then Chrome. But I hate that it takes me so much longer to load and use everything.

• Grep expression with special file names

  i am a real beginner in csh/tcsh scripting and that's why i need your help. The problem is I have to go through some regular files in directories and find those files, that have their own name in its content. In the following piece of script is cycle in which I am going through paths and using grep to find the file's name in its content. What is surely correct is $something:q - is array of paths where i have to find files. The next variable is name in which is only name of current file. for example: /home/computer/text.txt (paths) and: text.txt (name) And my biggest problem is to find names of files in their content. It's quite difficult for me to write correct grep for this, cause the names of files and directories that i am passing through are mad. • Dynamic script addition should be ordered?

  Hi, I'm adding some <script> tags dynamically to the head element after page load. I understand the scripts are loaded asynchronously, but can I expect them to be parsed in the order they are added? I'm seeing the expected behaviour in Firefox, but not in Safari or Chrome. Looking at the document in Chrome developer tools and Firebug, both show the following - <html> <head> ... <script type="text/javascript" src="A.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="B.js"></script> </head> ... </html> However looking at the resource loading view, chrome seems to parse whichever is returned first from the server, while firebug always loads them in the order the script tags were added, even when B is returned first from the server. Should I expect Chrome/Safari to parse the files in the specified order? Using Chrome 5.0.375.29 beta on OS X 10.6.3

• Java conditional compilation: how to prevent code chunks to be compiled?

  My project requires Java 1.6 for compilation and running. Now I have a requirement to make it working with Java 1.5 (from the marketing side). I want to replace method body (return type and arguments remain the same) to make it compiling with Java 1.5 without errors. Details: I have an utility class called OS which encapsulates all OS-specific things. It has a method public static void openFile(java.io.File file) throws java.io.IOException { // open the file using java.awt.Desktop ... } to open files like with double-click (start Windows command or open Mac OS X command equivalent). Since it cannot be compiled with Java 1.5, I want to exclude it during compilation and replace by another method which calls run32dll for Windows or open for Mac OS X using Runtime.exec. Question: How can I do that? Can annotations help here? Note: I use ant, and I can make two java files OS4J5.java and OS4J6.java which will contain the OS class with the desired code for Java 1.5 and 1.6 and copy one of them to OS.java before compiling (or an ugly way - replace the content of OS.java conditionally depending on java version) but I don't want to do that, if there is another way. Elaborating more: in C I could use ifdef, ifndef, in Python there is no compilation and I could check a feature using hasattr or something else, in Common Lisp I could use #+feature. Is there something similar for Java? Found this post but it doesn't seem to be helpful. Any help is greatly appreciated. kh.

  Hi All, What would be the ultimate web application browser compatibility test machine be? The testing environment would be (XP: IE6,FF3.6), (XP: IE7,Chrome), (XP: IE8,Safari), (MacOsX: Safari, FF3.6, Chrome), (Ubuntu: FF3.6, Chrome) Of course I want it all in one machine, my initial thought was Using a MacOsX as a host machine and use virtual box to install 3 xp and one ubuntu on it. Do you think it is an optimal solution? Do you have any better solution to achieve the above?
