I do not like to listen to authority such as having to code up software a certain way or following strict guidelines/formats. Do you think the software engineering/development field would be very tough for someone like me who prefers autonomy? If not, what fields of computer science do allow for that?

  • Screen corruption with 946G / 82945G/GZ [closed]

    Since version 10.04 I have problems with Ubuntu (I think) my graphics card. This problem arises especially when working with graphics or CPU usage much. The problem is that it breaks the GUI as you see in the image and the entire computer is very slow. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 and have a Intel graphics card 945G x86/MMX/SSE2. I used Unity and Gnome 3 with the same results. lspci returns 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

  • vgaswitcheroo - switch GPU based on load?

    Is it possible to make vgaswitcheroo switch between GPU based on load? For example, when computer would be in idle it would turn off discrete and use only integrated; when enough load would accumulate on it it would automatically turn on discrete graphics and disable integrated. My second question is whether there is any GUI applet or something that I could use to manually switch between GPUs - instead of manually echoing in switch file?   • Post 12.04 Update, stuck on splash screen

    I updated to 12.04 a couple of weeks ago and I haven't started up Ubuntu until now. On start up the computer gets stuck on the splash screen. I am a beginner in all of this linux mechanics.   • How could I shutdown, over my network, with one click?

    The question is simple. What would be the script I would have to use to shut down a computer in my network thru ssh. Normaly i would go to command line and: ssh desktop delik@desktop's password: delik@desktop:~$ sudo shutdown -P 0 To power on I created a file and wrote: wakeonlan xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx And gave it the executable bit That way to power on it requires only a double click. Would i be capable of doing the same to shutdown?

  • Can't Launch Ubuntu One

    Could not launch 'Ubuntu One' Just upgraded from 10.04--10.10 64-bit. When I try to launch Ubuntu One, I get a dialog that says: Could Not Launch 'Ubuntu One" Failed to execute child process "ubuntuone" (No such file or directory) I uninstalled, and reinstalled. I also followed a process outlined here to completely purge. Still doesn't work. Not sure how to trouble shoot this... I have logged in via the website and added my computer.

    Hello, Has anyone been able to get a TrendNet TEW-643PI Wireless N card working under UBUNTU, if so what drivers did you use and where did you find them. I have this card and would really like to be able to use it in my computer. I found drivers that may work but dont know how to get ubuntu to pick up the drivers. I have tried the Additional Drivers option but cannot seem to get ubuntu to pick up the drivers. Thanks.
