• Manage own framework

  I have developed my own little framework for webpages. And for different websites I had to change some parts of the framework respectively developed new features / improvements. But in some cases I missed to copy the changes in the original framework code. How do you manage your frameworks? I copy the complete framework to a library folder in my projects folder structure. So I have a copy of the framework in every project. I would like to have it on one place in order to modify / improve / bugfix it once and then distribute it on the projects.

• Why are downloads from Canonical Partners repository so slow?

  If I need Sun Java, Adobe Flash Plugin or anything else that comes from Canonical Partners the package downloads are painfully slow even small sized packages like the Flash plugin, to speed things up I have to go here: http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/pool/partner/ to find what I want, download the packages with a download manager (which is usually about 20 times faster than the package manager) and then place them in my /var/cache/apt/archives folder I run the package manager afterwards, as long as the right versions of the packages I ask to install are detected in the /var/cache/apt/archives folder they will be installed immediately. I would like to stop doing this, so I am wondering if anyone else has this problem, what could be the cause and if there is a fix. I am located in the Western Caribbean region. I think it would be helpful to note that all other packages coming from the repository I have selected with synaptic download at acceptable speeds.

• What are the differences between Bigloo and ECL from an embedding standpoint? [migrated]

  I've been looking to embed Lisp in some C++ code. Two options I'm interested in is Bigloo Scheme and ECL (Common Lisp). Reading through the docs they seem to support a very similar feature set. Obviously Bigloo is Scheme and ECL is CLisp, but what other differences do they have? In particular I'm interested in the following criteria: Ease of embedding (for C++, not just C). I don't want to write a bunch of boilerplate. Performance. Bigloo is performance based and has many compiler optimization options, although I can't find anything comparable for ECL. Style of coding. This one is more for Bigloo - is it more functional than ECL? I'm targeting this question towards someone who has used both.

• DNS no longer works after server reboot

  Strangely enough, when I reboot my Ubuntu 12.04 server, the DNS no longer works, which makes the domain unavailable to access to my site. Normally the DNS should be working after a reboot, but this doesn't happen anymore. I use nginx to serve content, but nginx is already configured to work with my domains. What are the typical practises must I do after a reboot and how can I solve this issue I experience? • php file upload problem [closed]

  This code works properly in my localhost. I am using xampp 1.7.3. but when I put it in the live server it shows Possible file upload attack!. 'upload/' is the folder under 'public_html' folder on the server. • Fixing a broken toolbox (In Visual Studio 2010 SP1)

  I was recently running into a situation where every time I opened Visual Studio 2010 SP1, the following message would appear for about 60 seconds or so: "Loading toolbox content from package Microsoft.VisualStudio.IDE.Toolbox.ControlInstaller.ToolboxInstallerPackage '{2C98B35-07DA-45F1-96A3-BE55D91C8D7A}'" After finally get fed up with the issue, I started researching it and decided that I’d share the steps that I took to resolve it below: I first made a complete backup of my registry. I then removed the following key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\Packages\{2c298b35-07da-45f1-96a3-be55d91c8d7a}] I went to the following directory: C:\Users\Your Name Here\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\ and created a folder called bk and moved the .tbd files to that folder (they are hidden so you will have to show all files). I then removed the .tbd files in the root directory. I then launched Visual Studio 2010 SP1 again and it recreated those files and the problem was gone. • "Failed to mount Windows share" error in Samba

  This is the situation. There are 3 machines in the office. The Operating systems on them are respectively, Linux mint Ubuntu 12.04 Windows Vista The Ubuntu (#2) machine is supposed to be the common file server between the machines #1 and #3. Machine #2 has two hard disks. One is a 500 GB NTFS empty drive and the other is a 160 GB ext4 drive. My plan is to make the 500 GB as the file sharing disk. When I share a folder like ~/Documents using Nautilus context menu on machine #2, I can access the files easily on both #1 and #3, but when I try to share some folder on 500 GB disk, I get an error on machine #1 that says Failed to mount windows share I do not mind formatting the drive to ext4 if needed, but I am sure that something simple is wrong. EDIT I took @Marty's comment as a hint and used ntfs-config to configure automount of that partition. It is working now. Thanks

In the same folder I leave a copy of the license. The listing of the folder looks like this: * codeName.js * LICENSE In the file LICENSE is the full text of the license my code uses. What I cannot find anywhere that says is this is enough to say my code is licensed (the case of open-source). Is something more required?

• How do I sync music to my Sony Walkman (Z Series) using Rhythmbox?

  I have recently purchased the new Walkman Z from Sony. I can transfer music by mounting it as a drive, but I would prefer to use Rhythmbox to do so. My other Android devices and MP3 players from the past have always just shown up without any tweaking. Using Nautilus to transfer the files is possible but for some reason Nautilus still makes a trash folder on removable drives. Deleting the trash folder anew is really annoying to do every time I delete music from the device. How can I use Rhythmbox to transfer and remove songs instead?

• Play Framework Plugin for NetBeans IDE (Part 2)

  After I published part 1 of this series, the first external contribution (i.e., not by me) to the NetBeans plugin for Play Framework 2 was committed today. Yann D'Isanto added support for creating new Play projects: That completely solves a problem I was working on, in a different way altogether. I was working on creating a new wizard that would call "play new" on the command line and pass into the command line the entered name and application type (1 for Java and 2 for Scala). However, Yann's solution is better, at least in the sense in that it works, as opposed to mine which didn't, because of problems I continually had with the command line, since one needs to press Enter multiple times on the Play command line when creating new projects, which I wasn't able to simulate in my new wizard. Yann's approach is simply to follow the approach taken in the Project Type Module Tutorial, which explains how to register a project sample in the IDE. I was inspired by Yann's contribution, especially when he mentioned that one needs to build Play projects on the command line. So, I added a new menu item on the right-click of a project for building Play projects, which simply passes "play compile" to the command line for the current project: Via the IDE's main menu bar, you can also Build and Run the application, though the code for the Clean function needs to be added still, which would be a cool thing for anyone out there to add, by using all the existing code and then passing "play clean compile" to the command line. Something else that Yann added is an Options Window extension, thanks to the Options Window Module Tutorial, for registering the Play installation, which is a step forward from my hard coded solution. I changed things slightly so that, when Build or Run are selected, without a Play installation being defined, the Options window opens, displaying the tab that Yann created, shown below. Notice that there's no Browse button, which would be a simple next step for anyone else to contribute. A small tip is to use the FileChooserBuilder from the NetBeans IDE APIs when working on the Browse button: Looking forward to more contributions to the Play Framework 2 plugin for NetBeans IDE. • Encryption password

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS I thought that everything in my Documents folder was being backed up by Ubuntu1, as everytime I put a file in my documents folder a box popped up stating backing up file. When I looked at the Left hand list of programmes on my desktop screen there was an extra Box in the list. Clicked the Box and it stated encryption Password required. It seems the latest files have not been backed up as an Encryption Password is required. Can anyone explain for me, what is this Encription Password and how do I get it.

• Strange right click problem?

  Last night I installed some applications and updated my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS,since then I encountered a strange right click problem, that is my right click is not working but when I open home folder from launcher right click works again. Actually problems starts last night when my desktop wallpaper changes suddenly to Ubuntu default, when I tried to change wallpaper I find that my right click is not working. I tried to reboot system but that also not solved my problem,i clicked here and there but when I opened the home folder my wallpaper changed again to previous one and when I checked the right click it is also working. Now the problem is that this problem comes back again whenever I turn on my system,and also whenever this problem occurs the Ubuntu desktop menu bar also disappears from unity top panel. Don't know what is really going on, please can anybody help me.

• App for finding icons easily?

  Occasionally I need to use a custom icon for something - a launcher created with alacarte, a custom .desktop file, or just a particular folder viewed in Nautilus. I know there are LOADS of cool icons installed on my system at /usr/share/icons but browsing them is really awkward. Everything is scattered around, duplicated in different sizes (or symlinked to .svg) etc. So, say I'm looking for a text file icon, or a purple folder or such, searching is a faff, and then when you do find results you need to work out what the best quality one is. Made me think that someone might have written an app for this?

• HP 655 notebook (ubuntu 12.04) keeps consuming energy after closing the lid

  I am unable to change power settings so that when I close the lid the battery stops consuming energy. There are three options in the power settings menu: When the screen is closed: 1 Do nothing 2 Pause 3 Sleep First I could not change anything. I see all the options but I could not click on option 2 and 3. (grey text instead of black) I already made it possible to put in to sleep mode. But I can't pause (suspend) the laptop. Anyone an idea?

• How do I implement a "sliding out of / into" effect on a settings menu similar to that in Angry Birds?

  I'm trying to implement a settings menu component similar to that in Angry Birds - a button control that makes an options menu slide out of it and back into it when clicked on. I use scene2d.ui to build the UI components: a Button in a Table to implement the button control, a Table to implement the options menu, and a Stack to lay these out one on top of the other and at this moment I have the following behavior: When the user hits the button control for the first time, then the alpha of the table component is set to 1; When the user hits the button control the second time, then the alpha of the table component is set to 0; And so on. Any ideas how I can get the sliding out of and into effect on user clicks with libgdx? Similar to what Angry Birds provides. Maybe using the TweenEngine, actions, interpolations, combinations of these? Thanks in advance.

  So I know this is a problem that has been asked around a lot, but I've tried a bunch of solutions with no success. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit), and I just installed it yesterday. This is my first time working with linux. The error is: You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run: libc.so.6 Things I've tried. First, I had downloaded from the steam website. I uninstalled it, and tried again from the ubuntu software centre. sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install ia32-libs sudo apt-get upgrade This installed a bunch of the 32 bit libraries, but did not fix the issue. This seems like the major fix for most people. The direct approach of sudo apt-get install libc.so.6 returns this: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package libc.so.6 E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'libc.so.6' I guess libc.so.6 isn't a package, just a single file or something? I also tried gksudo gedit /etc/ld.so.conf.d/steam.conf Added these two lines, those the second one was all ready in the file, but copied over: /usr/lib32 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa Then executed: sudo ldconfig But nothing seemed to happen, steam still doesn't work. So, I feel like it is more likely that I have the library and steam isn't looking in the right place. One thing I've seen is people usually reference /usr/local/lib/ for your library locations. However, I can't find where to cd into /usr/, it isn't in my home folder. If /usr/ is the home folder, there is only a /.local folder which only has /share, no lib anywhere. Sorry for my linux ignorance. I appreciate any help, I honestly have no idea how to confirm I have the library and point steam to it, or if that is even the right thing to do. • Changing to PHP 5-5.5

  I've been using PHP-5.4.3 for about a month now, and today, I decided to make a switch to PHP-5.5.5, I downloaded the source code, and placed it in C:/php (also renaming the folder php-5.5.5 to php) and I added server variables, as usual C:/php/ <-- but here I got stuck. Because, usually I appended the php.exe at the end, which was found inside the PHP folder so, I could be able to access PHP from the command line, or start the built-in server, but now, I can't find this file, and I can't find a way to start the server from the command line either. Anyone help.

• Are there good replacements for client-side java in web programming? [closed]

  Now since the latest java exploit, and many others in the past, people are again recommended to get rid of java on their computers for good. I, as a java web applications developer, am think about possible alternatives. Many seem to have gotten rid of java, so I would not like to develop for an environmet, that users do not have on their computers, and that they are not willing to install for security reasons. Are there any other real options that HTML5 + JS? (Don't take me wrong about not wanting HTML5+JS, I just want to know the options)

• Webmail with option to change password for email account?

  Been testing out different webmail options to use (so far AfterLogic, Horde) And it seems that there is no options to change password for user. It's really bad thing that i have to go to server and manually change passwords for users. Is there any webmail solution that will allow me to change password, that also changes on server (as client). Or is it server setting i must use before? Or it is not possible? • Website creation preparation [closed]

  I am in the pre-coding phase of creating a website. I know that it will be account based (users have to register/login to use the features). I also know that the server will have to do certain operations that are timer based, that is to say that user will have events that will trigger at a point chosen by the user and do something. I am searching for a good choice in server-side technology, and was wondering what my options are and what the best choice is. I would prefer open technology and something that doesn't use interpreted languages (Java, .net). My first thought is PHP + PGSQL for serverside and HTML+CSS+JS for clients, but I am still looking at my options.
