• Fixing/Extending Standard Windows File Open/Save Dialog [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Change left side link of the Save As Dialog for a DropBox one? Almost every time I use the standard Windows (XP) File Open/Save Dialog I get frustrated in how long it takes me to navigate to where I want to go. :-( (I won't even get into the MS Office dialog that makes things even worse) This is the dialog I'm referring to (with some notes) Notes: Wouldn't a Drive list be handy in here? C:\, D:\, E:\, etc. What about a breadcrumb URI? (the magenta list of links) Why isn't Program Files one of the icons on the left? (green) I'm always going in there for something Why can't I type "../../../" to navigate up multiple directories in the File name box? (blue) There has got to be some utilities out there that can "hijack" or "overwrite" this core windows dialog to provide a much better set of options. I'm looking for any/all solutions to help fix this dialog.

• BGP Router reccomendations for simple redundancy [closed]

  We have two sites that each have an internet connection and have a dedicated dark fibre between them. Each site has it's own IP space and we have an AS number. We're looking to be resilient to failure of the internet connection to either site and so need to buy a pair of approriate routers. Requirements are: Able to run 2 bgp sessions (one with the ISP, one with the other site router) Option to take a full table from the upstream ISPs would be nice. Able to provide HA gateways on the LAN side (e.g. 192.168.0.254 will automatically migrate if it's host router lost power) A dedicated device rather than a server running Linux / BSD Not crazy expensive. Any help / advice much appreciated.

We have two solutions: Use phpsass which is a php script(but it has some bugs) Use Ruby Compiler which most of wordpress plugins use this I noticed that plugins which use Ruby need to have PHP proc_open function enabled on server. My question is what are Pros and Cons of using Ruby compiler on servers? and are most of shared web hosts support Ruby and have PHP proc_open function enabled by default?

• How do you get around security warnings when redirecting AppData?

  I've recently set up folder redirection for my user profile in a domain. For now, I've redirected AppData, Desktop, Pictures, Documents and Favorites. So far, so good. But now I've noticed a quite disturbing side effect of the whole thing. Whenever I click any of my pinned elements on the task bar, I get the following warning: The shortcuts get synced as well and are no longer trusted. They're located at \\DFS\UserData\Profiles\OliverSalzburg\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar That seems like it could be a problem when rolling it out to the whole company.

  I have setup some rules in which subdomains (my users) will default to where I have located the robots.txt, favicon.ico, and crossdomain.xml therefore if a user creates a site say testing.mywebsite.com and they don't make their own favicon.ico at testing.mywebsite.com/favicon.ico, then it will use the favicon.ico I have in /misc/favicon.ico This works perfect, but it doesn't work for the main website. If you attempt to go to mywebsite.com/favicon.ico it will check if "/" exists, in which it does. And then never redirects to /misc/favicon.ico How can I get it so both instances redirect to /misc/favicon.ico ? # Set all crossdomain (openpalace file) favorite icons and robots.txt doesnt exist on their # side, then redirect to site's just to have something to go on. • Safari on Mac OS X lasts beyond Empty Cache

  So, I broke a website with some server changes oops. I roll back the changes I made, hit cmd-R, and oh noes, it is still broken. But I relax thinking, there must be something held in safari's cache so I press the handy 'Empty Cache' button. Hit cmd-R for refresh it is still broken. I'm really worried that I've done it and broken something bigtime. But first decide to check on a hand win xp computer, and voila it works. So the question is how do you "really" clear the cache w/o restart safari, I have many browser windows open a restart every time I make a server side change will ruin me. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  Hi there, Layout: i have at customer side a server (win2003 R2 SP2 standard edition 32-bit) with a sql-server 2005 and some databases. This system starts with the /3GB-Switch. The system reports 3.25 GB RAM and taskmanager reports the process of sqlserver.exe with 2758255 K as the process with the highest consumption. The OS separates RAM for applications and for itself, normaly 50:50. But here we have the /3GB-Switch aktivated and i think the part for the applications is more than 50% of RAM. Knowledge (or better not knowledge): Somebody told me that if the OS runs out of memory within his part of RAM, the server runs into pressing mode. Questions: What is this pressing mode? Is pressing mode possible at all in this szenario? What should be done to get more performance out of this sql-server, beside optimizing the database and all this stuff.

• Windows 7 dual monitor setup: Wallpaper alignment

  I have the following dual-screen set up on my Windows 7 PC: [2][1], that means my secondary monitor is on the right side of my primary monitor. Now I have a dual-screen wallpaper that should stretch across the monitors. I have set it to "Tile" mode. Problem: The wallpaper invariably starts at [1] (left edge of the image being on the left edge of [1]), and then continues on [2]. It basically splits the wrong way, producing a rather awkward look. How can I make the wallpaper appear correctly (i.e. left edge of the image being on the left edge of [2])?

• kill SIGABRT does not generate core file from daemon started from crontab.

  I am running CentOS 5.5 and working on server application that sometimes I need to force core dump so I can see what is going on. If I start my server from shell and send kill SIGABRT, a core file is created. If I start same program from crontab and then I send the same signal to it the server is "killed" but no core file is generated. Does any one know why is that and what need to be added to my code or changed in system settings to allow core file generation? Just a side note I have ulimit set to unlimited in /etc/profile I have set kernel.core_uses_pid = 1 kernel.core_pattern=/var/cores/%h-%e-%p.core in /etc/sysctl.conf Also my server app was added to crontab under same login id as I am running it from shell. Any help greatly appreciated

• How to integrate Thunderbird with SpamAssassin running on the server?

  I'm trying to integrate SpamAssassin running on a server with Thunderbird. Basically I need to be able to select several emails in Thunderbird and send them back to SpamAssassin for training, either as spam or ham. I tried several approaches: Tried "Report Spam" plugin, which is able to send message back to server either as an email attachment or via HTTP post. However, the plugin is rather buggy... Does not support sending several messages at once, "report as ham" is not working at all, etc. Wanted to make a custom button that will copy selected messages to a separate IMAP folder (I could create "LearnAsSpam" and "LearnAsHam" folders in IMAP that will get processed automatically on server), but don't even know how to approach this in Thunderbird, don't want to learn Thunderbird extention authoring... Server-side, I'm prepared to do some custom programming or integration needed (can receive a message via HTTP / SMTP / whatever), my stumbling block is Thunderbird... So, how can I send emails from Thunderbird back to SpamAssassin running on email server for Bayesian training, with as few keystrokes as possible?

  I am currently a high level consumer break/fix technician responsible for about 300-400 repairs a month. I am good at my job, but bored, and I want to move into the enterprise side of my company, dealing with Server 2008 R2 and exchange and switches and routers that cost more than I make in a month. How do I make this transition? Whats the best thing to learn first? Is there a standard trajectory for making this leap from consumer to business? I am full time employed, so going back to school is not a great option, but I have no life, so spending my nights and weekends reading and practicing is totally within my realm. I am basically overwhelmed by the number of things to learn, and looking for any advice you may have on the best way to proceed. • How can I reduce the CPU usage of Offline Files?

  Whenever I have the Offline Files service running, there is a constant 25% CPU usage on svchost.exe (this is a quad core, so that means it's using up one core). This, in turn, triples the power consumption and keeps the machine hot... I do have several GB synchronized (music collection), but they are not changing at all, in either side. Am I misusing this feature? Is there anything I can configure to keep it down when there's nothing to do? Or should I forget about it and synchronize big folders manually?

• Postfix, saslauthd, mysql, smtp authentication problems

  Trying to get authentication on my mail server (ubuntu 10.04) running but am having trouble. I have a server with postfix for smtp setup, imap server with courier setup. My postfix authentication is using cyrus (I haven't tried dovecot really) saslauth. The user name and password is stored in a MySql database. Logging in with imap-ssl works on a remote client (thunderbird), and I can read my mail. I can't get the SMTP side working, and have focused the issue down to saslauth. Testing with testsaslauthd -u 'username' -p 'passowrd' -s smtp returns connect() : Permission denied the password in the database is encrypted and I guess this testsaslauthd will take a plain text password and encrypt it. Looking for someone to walk me through getting this working. Im new to the mail server, and have never got one fully working. Thanks. Ask me which log files I should look at/post, which tests to run, permissions to check.

• Is SATA bandwith per Port or per Controller?

  I always assumed that it was per Controller channel, and that If I have 4xSATA 3.0Gb/s ports on my Motherboard then I should have a potential 12.0Gb/s of bandwith. However, after doing some searching I found conflicting information suggesting that if I had 4xSATA drives connected to my MB and were using them simultaneously each drive would get only 3.0Gb/s /4 = 768 Mb/s max bandwith. So I wanted to clear up my understanding. Side question: Are there other hdd/ssd bandwith bottlenecks to be aware of? (Links to already answered questions are more than welcome)

  I'm trying to share a directory on my NAS device(WD Mybook WE) with NFS to another machine on my local network. The directory on the NAS device looks like this: drwxr-x--- 15 git git 4096 Nov 17 01:05 git/ And id's of the user git on the NAS device is like this: [root@myhost DataVolume]# id git uid=505(git) gid=505(git) I played with many different parameters in the /etc/exports file and this is what I got there currently: /DataVolume/git 192.168.0.20(async,rw,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check) On the client side I have the user git and group git with the same id's to match the ones on the server. user@myclient:~$ id git uid=505(git) gid=505(git) groups=505(git) I mount the directory with: sudo mount myhost:/DataVolume/git -t nfs git/ and the mounted directory looks like: drwxr-x--- 15 git git 4096 Nov 17 01:05 git After these steps I can't seem to cd to that directory with any user, including git and root. I am getting a Permission denied error. Thanks in advance for any help.

  I'm running sites on two Cpanel accounts on my VPS on WHM. I'm using DSO php handler and Apache server on my Web server. After recent intrusion attacks I've chowned to root with permission 555 on $HOME and public_html folder. I'm on VPS with Cpanel on Centos. I'm running CMS based software like Joomla Drupal etc. Will this cause any problem to my VPS installation or server side processes? Drupal, Joomla, MyBB etc will not be affected by this. Some files will not be created like error_log. At least hackers will not be able to place any malicious code within home folder or the public_html folder.

• Disable mouse hotkeys in Chrome

  Does anyone know how I can get Chrome to stop using my mouse buttons as hotkeys for a Logitech MX518 gaming mouse? I have the mouse driver and software suite (SetPoint) installed. Unfortunately, SetPoint does not provide per-application settings, so that route is not an option. No matter what I do in SetPoint, Chrome captures my side mouse buttons and uses them as a forward/back hotkey. I want to turn this off because I use those buttons for my push-to-talk in Mumble/Ventrilo. Any idea how I can do this? edit: my set-point does not have a way to create per-application settings.

  I am trying to redirect /folder to / using .htaccess but all am I getting is the Apache HTTP Server Test Page. • Remove Outlook 2007 Calendar from Calendars List

  In our company, we use personal folders with Outlook 2007 and make it the default method of downloading messages to keep our mailbox size on the server side small. Under calendar view, i see both calendars, my personal folder one and my server one. How can I remove from the list of calendars my server one since I do not use that one and it only creates confusion and problems such as adding entries onto that one instead of the other or disabling one and not getting alarms?   I'm looking for a solution that allows multiple persons to put plan and notify their vacation by putting it in their electronic calendar and invite a dedicated "robot" email. On the other side I should be able to get a quick overview of the vacation for each person and do a print out that allows me to put it on a board. Example: John puts his winter vacation for week 7 into his calendar and invite [email protected]. Ben does the same thing for week 4 and 5 and invites [email protected]. Dilbert host the [email protected] and prints out and overview for the next 3 months. Each person's vacation is either stated by name or/and color on the print out. I would like to do the thing with standard business software like Outlook 2010 without installing too many softwares. But at the same time it should be easy and quick to make the print outs without too much fiddling Am I dreaming ?

• How to reliably synchronise file servers between London and Shanghai?

  We have two offices, one in London and one in Shanghai, each needing to be able to access the same set of files. This means we need a solid, speedy means of synchronising a set of folders between servers at either office. They're likely to be Windows servers, but we could look at Linux boxes if the software side makes more sense on *nix. We've considered Rsync, Unison, Gluster, and a few other options, but none of them seem capable of reliably keeping the servers in sync between such distant office locations. Each office is on DSL connectivity over the open internet, so encryption is also a factor. Does anyone have any hints for getting the servers synchronising in as close to real time as possible, without dying constantly? Andy

• Is there a way to have a working search bar in Explorer with Windows Search Service disabled?

  I had to disable Windows Search Service (turn it off in Windows Features) for the reason that it was constantly using the hard drive in an excessive way (maybe because I've got very large quantities of files on my PC), noticeably slowing down my computer, and the Windows.edb database file grew way too large, about 2.5 GB in size. But the side-effect of it is that now the search bar is gone from any Explorer window and I miss this useful feature. So my question is, is there a way to stop Windows Search Service torturing my hard drive and still being able to search for files and folders directly from Explorer, perhaps using some third-party software?

  On my Debian Linux machine Ctrl+Alt+F1 is bound to a virtual terminal. I can see the corresponding entry by running xmodmap -pke keycode 67 = F1 XF86_Switch_VT_1 F1 XF86_Switch_VT_1 Per this thread, which I might add is consistent with what I've read elsewhere, the columns on the right hand side of = correspond to key, Shift+key, AltGr+key and Shift+AltGr+key. Given that, I don't understand how the keycode mapping for F1 (above) works for Ctrl+Alt+F1. It seems it should really be either Shift+F1 or Shift+AltGr+F1?
