• Vim move cursor one character in insert mode without arrow keys

  This might seem a little too overboard, but I switched to vim and I so happy about the workflow now. I try to discipline myself not to use the arrow keys, as keeping the hands on the alfa-keys all the time is such a big thing when writing. So when I need to navigate I get out of insert mode, move in normal mode and get back in insert mode. There is an exception where this is actually more disrupting: I use clang complete with snippets and super tab which is great. Except every time I get a function auto completed after I fill in the parameters I am left with the cursor before ) so to continue I have to move the cursor one character to the right. As you can imagine this happens very often. The only options I have (as far as I know) are : Escla or ?, and I am not happy about neither of them. The first one makes me hit 3 keys for just a simple 1 character cursor move, the second one makes me move my hand to the arrow keys. A third option would be to map CTRL-L or smth to ?. • Why does 64-bit Windows need a separate "Program Files (x86)" folder?

  I know that on a 64-bit version of Windows the "Program Files" folder is for 64-bit programs and the "Program Files (x86)" folder is for 32-bit programs, but why is this even necessary? By "necessary", I don't mean "why could Microsoft not have made any other design decisions?" because of course they could have. Rather, I mean, "why, given the current design of 64-bit Windows, must 32-bit programs have a separate top-level folder from 64-bit programs?" There are plenty of questions on Super User and elsewhere that assert "one is for 32-bit programs, one is for 64-bit programs", but none that I can find give the reason. From my experience, it doesn't seem to matter whether a 32-bit program is installed in the correct place or not. Does Windows somehow present itself differently to a program running out of "Program Files (x86)"? Is there a description that shows exactly what's different for a program installed in "Program Files (x86)" instead of "Program Files"? I think it's unlikely that Microsoft would introduce a new folder without a legitimate technical reason.

• How to route 1 VPN through another on OS X?

  Hi everyone. Thanks a lot for your help! I've been tinkering with this for a while and have read many posts along with Googling for help, but my knowledge of TCP/IP is really weak... I have access to two different VPN servers. 1 Is set up in Network Settings and connects through PPP 2 Is set up through Tunnelblick and uses OpenVPN. I can connect to either tunnel #1 or tunnel #2, but not both one after the other... One of my major to-do's this year is study TCP/IP, but for now, would you be super-helpful and help me fix this really clearly? I have no experience with routing, DNS, gateways or any of that. If you tell me, "Set your gateway to XXX.XXX.XX.XXX" can you specify how I get that IP, off of what interface so I don't get messed up? I can figure out the terminal just fine if you let me know what to type, and I WILL read the man pages on everything you help me with. Thanks a million!

• Merging two separate DNS zones

  This is a hypothetical question. Let's suppose I have two networks, each with its own DNS server. Network A has names a1.local, a2.local, ... and network B has b1.local, b2.local, .... Zone file for each of the networks looks something like this: $ORIGIN local @ IN SOA .... blah blah blah a1 A 1.2.3.4 a2 A 2.3.4.5 ... for A, and $ORIGIN local @ IN SOA .... blah blah blah b1 A 3.4.5.6 b2 A 4.5.6.7 ... for B. Now I also have a regular internet domain example.com and I want to access the machines as a1.A.example.com, b1.B.example.com, ... How will I have to change the configuration of name servers in networks A and B? (in fact I am writing a super-magic DNS server, currently serving A and B separately, but there is a chance that I will have to add the ability to merge the networks; so I'm interested in knowing the problems which lie ahead of me and how to prepare for the possibility)

• Do email providers have to tell me which (inter)national agencies/institutes are requesting legal access to my account data?

  I know this question is not technical, but i did not find the "stackoverflow for legal issues" and I guess all you super users out there might know the answer. Here is my (potential) problem: I have a free email account at a (inter)national email provider. I used the words "wikileaks" and "twitter" lately in my email. Some over-ambitious national security organization legally requests access to all accounts that behaved similarly. Q1: Can I request the who-, when-, and why-information related to this legal request from my provider? Does he have to tell me which (inter)national organizations (legally) requested my account data? Q2: Does the situation change if I live in Germany (and have a German provider)? I guess here are some German users. And I know that such a legal policy exists for our national credit rating agency. I can request who got access to my data, they have to tell me. Please answer only if you know a good answer, I don't want to start a long discussion on this none-technical question. • OrientationEventListener not working properly

  Hi all, I need to handle orientation changes in my Android application. For this purpose I decided to use OrientationEventListener convenience class. But his callback method is given somewhat strange behavior. My application starts in the portrait mode and then eventually switches to the lanscape one. I have some custom code executing in the callback onOrientationChanged method that provides some additional UI handling logic - it has a few calls to findViewById. What is strange is that when switching back from landscape to portrait mode onOrientationChanged callback is called twice, and what's even worse - the second call is dealing with bad Context - findViewById method starts returning null. These calls are made right from the MainThread @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); listener = new OrientationListener(); } @Override protected void onResume() { super.onResume(); // enabling listening listener.enable(); } @Override protected void onPause() { super.onPause(); // disabling listening listener.disable(); } I've replicated the same behavior with a dummy Activity without any logic except for one that deals with orientation hadling.   hi, I get null pointer exception at line mService.start() when i try to bind to an already started service. I do the same thing from different activity(where the service gets started) everythig goes right. All these activities are part of one application. I have a tab bar controller with 5 navigation controlls, in one of the navigation control, i have a view, with a table view inside, and when i click that item i push a new view, that view have view -webview -view i create that second view(is transperant) because i need to handle a single tap to hide my toolbar and navigation bar, and the webview was eating all the touches!   Hi I've subclassed UITableView (as KRTableView) and implemented the four touch-based methods (touchesBegan, touchesEnded, touchesMoved, and touchesCancelled) so that I can detect when a touch-based event is being handled on a UITableView. Essentially what I need to detect is when the UITableView is scrolling up or down. However, subclassing UITableView and creating the above methods only detects when scrolling or finger movement is occuring within a UITableViewCell, not on the entire UITableView. As soon as my finger is moved onto the next cell, the touch events don't do anything. • Problems when handling orientation changes

  Hi all, I need to handle orientation changes in my Android application. For this purpose I decided to use OrientationEventListener convenience class. But his callback method is given somewhat strange behavior. My application starts in the portrait mode and then eventually switches to the lanscape one. I have some custom code executing in the callback onOrientationChanged method that provides some additional UI handling logic - it has a few calls to findViewById. What is strange is that when switching back from landscape to portrait mode onOrientationChanged callback is called twice, and what's even worse - the second call is dealing with bad Context - findViewById method starts returning null. In the admin, TranscriptPages is a StackedInline of the Transcript Admin. To do this I’m overridding Transcript’s save method: def save(self): if self.doPagination: #do stuff super(Transcript, self).save() else: super(Transcript, self).save() The problem = When Transcript.doPagination is True, I want to manually delete all of the TranscriptPages that reference this Transcript so I can then create them again from scratch. I made transition drawable and set it as item's background. I tried to implement SimpleGestureListener and started animation on onDown and reversed it on onSingleTapUp events, but it doesn't give me any results (works fine, but items don't turn into red). I want A's Foo to be of type A , and B's Foo to be of type B or a superclass of B. So in effect, So I only want this: Foo<X> bar = new Foo<X>; new B(bar); to be possible if X is either A, B, or a both subclass of A and superclass of B. So far this is what I have: class Foo<? extends A>{ //construct } class A(Foo<A> bar){ //construct } class B(Foo<? super B> bar){ super(bar); //construct } The call to super(...) doesn't work, because <A> is stricter than <? super B>. Is it somehow possible to use the constructor (or avoid code duplication by another means) while enforcing these types? Edit: Foo keeps a collection of elements of the generic parameter type, and these elements and Foo have a bidirectional link. It should therefore not be possible to link an A to a Foo.

• Storing same type but still getting an ArrayStoreException

  I have strange problem. I have three classes. Book ( abstract ), and two subclasses ( Fiction, Nonfiction). I have created array of Book references. That array can hold both subclasse's objects. I'have following code for Fiction class. public class Fiction extends Book{ public Fiction(String title) { super(title); setPrice(); } public void setPrice() { super.price = 24.99; } } And the "same" code for Nonfiction class public class Nonfiction extends Book{ public Nonfiction(String title) { super(title); setPrice(); } public void setPrice() { super.price = 37.99; } } And this is Main program. import javax.swing.JOptionPane; public class Main { public static void main(String[] args) { Book[] book = new Fiction[6]; for(int i = 0; i<book.length; i++) { if(i<4) { String title = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter fiction book, no "+i); book[i] = new Fiction(title); } else { String title = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter non fiction book, no "+i); book[i] = new Nonfiction(title); } } for(int x = 0; x<book.length; x++) { System.out.println("Book named "+book[x].getTitle()+" costs "+book[x].getPrice()); } } } For any reason i'm getting ArrayStoreException on this line.. book[i] = new Nonfiction(title); But same code works for Fiction class. I checked java documentation and it says that this exception is thrown when i'm trying to store different objects in array ( like String and Int ), but in this case they are all the same objects. Both classes are children of superclass, that means, they are of the same type. I'm confsued. A little help here please?
