  • How can I locate .NET Library property/function that return a particular type?

    Occasionally I will know that there is a .NET Framework function that returns a particular type of object, but I can't recall the property or function name. It would be really nice to be able to somehow scan the Framework or other DLL for functions that return a particular type of object. (For example, it would have helped when I asked this question, and I have a similar question again.) Can anyone suggest how I might do this?

  • ASP. NET MVC2: Where abouts do I set Current.User from a Session variable?

    Hi, I'm trying to get authentication and authorisation working in an ASP .NET MVC2 site. I've read loads of tutorials and some books which explain how you can use attributes to require authorisation (and membership in a role) like this: [Authorize(Roles="Admin")] public ActionResult Index() { return View(); } I've made classes that implement IIdentity and IPrincipal, I create a userPrincipal object once the user has successfully logged in and I add it to a session variable. When the user goes to another page I want it to set the HttpContext.Current.User to the object that I stored in the session, something like this: if (Session["User"] != null) { HttpContext.Current.User = Session["User"] as MyUser; } My question is: Where abouts do I put the code directly above? I tried Application_AuthenticateRequest but it tells me Session state is not available in this context. Many thanks.

    Hi I have one sharepoint custom page application which is rendering from a user control. In the user control page, i had used SPGridview for displaying data. My first column is Title Column (link button column), when the user click on the link, then one popup window will open with corresponding data. But the problem is the link button is not working properly. But this application is working as fine in asp.net application.   • Best practice for submits redirecting to another page in MVC2?

    I have a situation with my MVC2 app where I have multiple pages that need to submit different information, but all need to end up at the same page. In my old Web Forms app, I'd have just accomplished this in my btnSave_Click delegate with a Redirect. There are three different types of products, each of which need to be saved to the cart in a completely different manner from their completely different product pages. I'm not going to get into why or how they're different, just suffice to say, they're totally different. After they're saved to the cart, I need to "redirect" to the Checkout view. But it should be noted, that you can also just browse straight to the Checkout view without having to submit any products to add to the cart. Here's a diagram of what I'm trying to accomplish, and how I think I need to handle it: Is this correct? It seems like a common scenario, but I haven't seen any examples of how I should handle this.   • In MVC2, how do I validate fields that aren't in my data model?

    I am playing with MVC2 in VS 2010 and am really getting to like it. In a sandbox application that I've started from scratch, my database is represented in an ADO.NET entity data model and have done much of the validation for fields in my data model using Scott Guthrie's "buddy class" approach which has worked very well. However, in a user registration form that I have designed and am experimenting with, I'd like to add a 'confirm email address' or a 'confirm password' field. Since these fields obviously wouldn't exist in my data model, how would I validate these fields client side and server side? I would like to implement something like 'Html.ValidationMessageFor', but these fields don't exist in the data model. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    We've started using the ASP.NET recaptcha control and it works fine. but one of the requirements we have is that all outbound traffic goes over Https. I know that recaptcha supports https, but It's not clear how to configure (or even if it is configurable) when using the ASP.NET plugin option. has anyone got any experience of this? I'll expand a little on what I've found so far.... The Recaptcha package contains 3 public classes RecaptchaControl, RecaptchaValidator and RecaptchaResponse RecaptchaControl is an Asp.NET control, the recaptcha specific methods on there seem to be concerning themes/look and feel. An instance of the Validator has a RemoteIP field (which I presume would represent the verification server), but I can't a way of binding that to the control. RecaptchaResponse seems to more or less represent an enum with possible responses (valid/invalid/failed to connect).

    I am looking for solid non-console examples of how to use ASP.NET MVC1 or MVC2, NHibernate, Fluent NHibernate & Castle. I looked at Sharp Architecture and its just too much to digest for my newbie mind. I need a clean, clear, concise Step A, Step B, Step C tutorial or a solid example that is a web application and not a console application. I have searched and searched and searched and I have found incomplete examples (examples with just enough information to make me say where does that code go), console applications and no good web application examples. Does anyone know of a COMPLETE web example? If I see another console example, I'm going to scream....

    Hi, I see it all over the place, yet, I could not find one example about this (maybe I don't know the proper wording), I am trying to build using ASP .Net MVC2 (but any example on just ASP .Net would be also helpful) a process that will send a link to the user at the end of the registration process to let him confirm his registration. Also, a similar process to let the user to reset his password, with the typical "forgot password" and send a link/url so that the user can click and type a new password. Can someone help me to either find an example or at least to let me know how to "google" it? Thanks, Mark

Error Message : `Unhandled exception at line 86, column 11 in http://localhost:1706/Home/About 0x800a01b6 - Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object doesn't support this property or method` And give me two options, Continue or Break . If i continue, the page loads with features as i mentioned earlier. If i Break, then it stays in the jquery.tinymce.js file with a yellow text-background. I have no experience with Javascript/jquery. And new in ASP .NET MVC 4.0, actually this is my first try of web application in .net. I updated jquery from nuGet. What could be the possible ways to solve it?

  • Access Controller Context/ TempData from business objects

    I am trying to build a session/tempdata provider that can be swapped. The default provider will work on top of asp.net mvc and it needed to access the .net mvc TempData from the business object class. I know the tempdata is available through the controller context, but i cant seem to find if that is exposed through HttpContext or something. I dont really want to pass the Controller context as an argument as that would dilute my interface definition since only asp.net based session provider needs this, other (using NoSQL DB etc) doesn't care about Controller Context. To clarify further, adding little more code here. my ISession interface look like this. and when this code goes to production, the session/tempdata is expected to work using NoSql db. But i also like to have another implementation that works on top of asp.net mvc session/tempdata for my dev testing etc. public interface ISession { T GetTempData<T>(string key); void PutTempData<T>(string key, T value); T GetSessiondata<T>(string key); void PutSessiondata<T>(string key, T value); }

    The ASP.NET MVC2 templates feature is a pretty nice way to quickly scaffold objects at runtime. Be sure to read Brad Wilsons fantastic series on this topic starting at ASP.NET MVC 2 Templates, Part 1: Introduction. As great as this feature is, there is one template thats conspicuously missing.   • Adding an ASP website in IIS7.5 on Windows 7

    enter preformatted text hereI'm trying to add an ASP website under IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 and am having no luck so far. This site is just for me to hit locally. I need to make some changes to some of the HTML in some of the ASP files and I just need to be able to test my changes as I make them. I installed IIS and checked the box for ASP. Next, I added an Application Pool which I called ASP and which has "No Managed Code" and "ASP" set. Next, I added the website by right-clicking "Sites" then clicking "Add Web Site...". I gave it a name, set it to use the ASP app pool, pointed it to the path where the ASP code is (I left it at pass-through authentication), and typed in 5555 as the port, so as to not interfere with the default website. The code is sitting on my server and the path simply uses the mapped drive that I always use to access files on that drive array. When I type in http://mysite:5555, I get "could not find mysite:5555". I don't really know if all these settings are correct or what else I should try. What am I missing? Thanks, Jay
