Requirements: Very quick to load and run Allows saving to a compact sound format (e.g. MP3) Allows long recordings (1+ Hours) Free Runs on Windows XP Would be nice but probably not essential: Saves along the way (in case of crashes) Allows simple edits (trim start and end and maybe remove chunks in the middle) Before anyone suggests it, I'm aware of (and have used) Audacity but I'm really after something as simple and lightweight as possible.

    I was just going through some all-in-one desktop PCs (Dell Studio One, HP Touch Smart, Lenovo IdeaCenter, etc.) and their specs really look good (4 GB RAM, 2.x GHz Core 2 Duo, etc.) Are there any disadvantages of such PCs as a developer machine? I mostly do Java (Eclipse + MySQL + Tomcat / JBoss) or .NET (Visual Studio + MsSQL) development. Edit: One common question I could see is harddrive size and that's around 320 GB 7200 RPM.

    I would assume that most User-defined Exceptions are for Business Logic level exceptions, but what are some good reasons to use a User-Defined Exception and what are some good examples? Is a user-defined exception's only advantage that you can define a consistent Error Message? What logic can be written inside exceptions to make them truly more useful? I am particularly worried about having to run the cache client as a single-thread / singleton bean. Is that the case? If so, is that an issue?   • Good policy to force all developers in a company to use the same IDE?

    In my organization they are thinking about rolling out Eclipse company wide but I prefer using another editor (UltraEdit). I do not have any good arguments against this except subjective opinions that a developer should get to use whatever he/she wants as long as he's productive enough. This to make the developer a happy employee :-) Do you guys think its a good policy to force all developers in the same company to use the same IDE? Would there be any technical (dis)advantages of this decision?

    It is known that the halting problem cannot have a definite solution, one that a) returns true <== the program does indeed halt, and b) handles any input, but I was wondering if there are good enough solutions to the problem, ones that can maybe handle certain types of program flows perfectly, or is able to identify it when it cannot correctly solve the problem, and so on.... If so, how good are they, and what ideas/limitations do they rely on?
