• Excel chart won't update, based on calculated cells

  I have an Excel document (2007) with a chart (Clustered Column) that gets its Data Series from cells containing calculated values The calculated values never change directly, but only as a result of other cells in the sheet changing When I change other cells in the sheet, the Data Series cells are recalculated, and show new values - but the Chart based on this Data Series refuses to update automatically I can get the Chart to update by saving/closing, or toggling one of the settings (such as reversing x/y axis and then putting it back), or by re-selecting the Data Series Every solution I have found online doesn't work - I have Calculation set to automatic - Ctrl+Alt+F9 updates everything fine, EXCEPT the chart - I have recreated the chart several times, and on different computers - I have tried VBA scripts like: Application.Calculate Application.CalculateFull Application.CalculateFullRebuild ActiveWorkbook.RefreshAll DoEvents None of these update or refresh the chart I do notice that if I type over my Data Series, actual numbers instead of calculations, it will update the chart - it's as if Excel doesn't want to recognize changes in the calculations Has anyone experienced this before or know what I might do to fix the problem?   We have an environment that is based on an Active Directory domain (running Windows Server 2003 SP2), an internal email system using Exchange Server 2003 (internal mailbox, nothing online), and the clients run a mixture of MS Outlook 2007&2010, with the majority running 2007. Recently we noticed that Exchange server is taking so much space for mailboxes. We are examining some solutions to reduce space, and it seems that we could make use of the archiving feature to archive older messages. I can set the auto-archive option manually for every individual user, but is there any other easier way to automate that task? Is there any feature in exchange server or active directory domain that enables setting that as a kind of policy or something similar, or a script to be scheduled to run by all users?

• How can I VPN into a domain and act as if it is local?

  I've looked and looked and the internet seems to have finally failed me, there's no information on my specific issue. I have two locations, and one server (sbs 2008); I need them to act like one physical LAN. I know it's possible, I just know how to set it up, or anything about VPNs, etc. So, just to clarify a bit more: 1 Small Business Server 2008 ~30 Computers with varying systems from Windows XP to 7 2 Physical Locations I use redirected folders, but since that would consume a lot of bandwith over VPN, I have a machine over there that can be the workhorse for storage. Users need to access e-mail and shared databases from this server (or possibly some form of DFS with aforementioned workhorse) from the other building. Is there a nice tutorial (or I nice person that wants to write it) online that can explain how to set up computers from an external network to act like they were in the LAN?

• Translating Documents from a Foreign Language into English on my Computer?

  I am aware that websites can be translated from many languages into English thanks to Google Translate. If I receive documentation via email that is in a language other than English, how straight forward is it to translate into English on my PC or Apple Mac? (indeed is Google Translate involved or is it strictly for websites) Similarly if I receive documentation via the normal postal mail service (termed "snail mail" if I'm correct) which needs to be translated into English, what steps need to be taken for this documentation to be translated effectively & quickly on my PC or Apple Mac (I am aware of the term Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, and is this costly, or do free alternatives exist to carry out the translation process solely online? ).

• Inbound connections using Internet Connection Sharing in Apple/Mac/Leopard

  I have a Mac mini which I'm using to give some other devices wireless access, by sharing it's Airport connection with the local ethernet, and that is plugged into a switch. All devices can get online no problem. (See how: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20041112101646643 and http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071223001432304 ) The issue is that I need to be able to connect in to these machines as well (at least, for the Slingbox to work). All the devices have 192.168.2.* addresses, and the rest of my local network is on 192.168.1.*. I tried setting a static route so that the 192.168.2.* addresses would use a gateway of 192.168.1.50 (my mac mini's address) but that didn't seem to help. Does anyone know if what I'm trying to do is possible? I admit I'm not certain what Internet Connection sharing is really doing under the hood... perhaps it just does basic nat, and doesn't do the type of routing I'm looking for. If so, anyone know if this is possible?

• ctrl-c, ctrl-v not working on Windows 7

  I'm trying to use my Windows 7 PC, and for some reason, Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl-V to paste only work intermittently. I have a third-party clipboard viewer installed, so I can see when Ctrl-C doesn't copy to the clipboard (there's no new entry) and also when Ctrl-V pastes glarp (the cursor moves, sometimes several lines) instead of what's on the clipboard. I've checked the keyboard and mouse drivers, run a system scan, checked the event log and a bunch of other things I've seen online, and haven't found a resolution. Any other ideas for things to check or try?

• Using PCIe and onboard together

  I'm currently using my PCI Express card to run 2 monitors and my onboard to run another. It works fine despite people saying it won't. I use a gadget to monitor my PCI card but would also like to monitor my onboard GPU as well. I play a game called Eve Online and when I'm running my accts I can only get 20 fps. Before, when I was using just my PCI card, I was getting 60+. To solve this, I set the display options to interval immediate, it was set to one before. My computer handles it no problem at all, but I was always told this was immpossible. I was hoping someone could explain how and why this is working. Thanks! • System Restore Points

  Currently I am investigating how to schedule an automatic initiation of a system restore point for all of the workstations in my office. It seems that Task Scheduler already has some nice defaults (screenshots below). Even the history for this task verifies that it is running successfully. However, when I go to Recovery in the Control Panel it only lists the System Restore Points one for every previous for only 3 weeks back even if I check the show more restore points box. Why don't the additional ones appear? Would there be a better way to implement a solution, like via group policy or a script? Is there any documentation on this online? I've been having a hard time tracking anything down except how to subvert group policy disabling this feature.

• Laptop gets really hot then turns off, suspect it is overheating. How can I reduce this?

  My laptop keeps overheating and turning itself off. Underneath it gets really hot. Even playing 3D online poker is impossible, it just overheats. If it is on my lap, I try and balance it so it's sitting just on my legs and has loads of free space under it. This seems to help a bit (it's never turned itself off in this position) but even being on a desk can result in it overheating. There is a lot of dust, etc that I've cleaned it out (as much as I can easily take apart anyway), but it never used to happen. Any ideas? The laptop is a Lenovo 3000 N200.

• Google Drive desktop client not updating existing files from other users

  I've looked around and there doesn't really seem to be any troubleshooting information for the Google Drive desktop client. It all assumes you are using Google Docs on the web. Anyway, my team is trying to use Google Drive like Dropbox, where multiple people are editing files shared amongst them through the desktop, such as images. Dropbox is really good at noticing when a checksum for a file is changed, and syncing it. Google Drive's desktop client seems not to do this at all. Google Drive desktop client seems to only sync newly created files and not giving any notification at all that there is a modified version, it will never sync it, even though going online and opening that file will show the modified version. Is there any way to fix this? and the answer has nothing to do with proxy or firewall configurations. Team is using computers running OSX and Windows.

• Why is hg fetch a deprecated extension? [closed]

  Mercurial's fetch extenson conveniently pulls and merges from a remote repository. Recently, this feature has been deprecated by the developers. They recommend avoiding it and it is on the unloved features list. It is useful in many cases to be able to pull and initiate a merge with one command (which hg pull -u doesn't do). I assume there is a reason behind the deprecation but I haven't been able to find one in the documentation or online. What is the reason behind deprecating it? I'm not looking for opinions, but rather the factual reason behind its deprecation (which might be that the dev team's opinion is that it should not be used).

I've create that and it works when I access it on local network, but when I access it from outside of local network (internet) the www.mysite.com:502 can't accessed but the www.mysite.com can accessed. what should I do to make www.mysite.com:502 goes online? I use windows server 2008 standard

• Install Trac Without Setting Up a VirtualHost in Apache?

  I'm trying to set up Trac to test out it's functionality, and the only guides I can find online talk about setting up a VirtualHost. Right now I am under the impression that I need access to a DNS server to properly use the VirtualHost directive, and for various reasons I don't have access to one. Is it possible to set up Trac without setting up a VirtualHost? I haven't had any luck. If I run the site with tracd, it works - which means that at least part of it is set up properly. Right now all I have is an Apache Directory directive pointing to /pathToTracSite/htdocs/, and when I visit the trac location, all I get when viewing the site from a browser is an empty directory (which makes sense, because htdocs/ is empty). My server is running Apache2 I know I'm missing a lot here, because I don't understand Apache the Trac system very well - any help would be appreciated.

  Hi all, I have one webserver and one Application server. Webserver1 have FreeBSD 8.1, Apache, MySQL and PHP. Application1 server have Centos 5.5, Apache, Mysql and PHP. Both server running fine independently. My webserver1 is hosting my company website www.azrim.com which running good. Besides I have 2 online application which requires me to host them as a subdomains. My questions is I want to make subdomains such as abc.azrim.com and xyz.azrim.com is accesscible from Application1 server. Can anyone pls help me on this. What should I do on apaches configuration on both webserver1 and Apps1 server. I only have 1 NIC card on my Apps1 server. Really appreciate anyone who got the solution. Thanks Azrim

• Colors less saturated in Snow Leopard Finder, Preview & Safari than in Chrome -- why?

  If I look at the picture here in Safari, Preview or the finder, the shades of blue are significantly different than if I look at the picture in Google Chrome (they are less saturated than in Chrome). Since I am a photographer and need to prepare pictures for publication online, I need to know what a jpeg should really look like, in order to color-correct it. I have an excellent Eizo monitor that is correctly calibrated. If I open the same image in Photoshop CS3, I get the Chrome colors if I use Monitor RGB under view proof setup, and I get the Safari colors if I use Macintosh RGB. Can anyone explain the difference between these two settings, and the difference between Safari and Chrome? Which colors are correct? Photos that I prepared under Windows (during the past five years) now seem washed out in the Apple Finder and Preview, even though I had correctly prepared them. Is there a setting on the Macintosh for color calibration, besides the monitor calibration control panel?

• harddrive problem (usb external)

  Hey guys I am using a Maxtor One Touch 3 given to my by my uncle. It is connected through USB2.0 When I plug it in, XP installs it and says "the device is ready to use". But it dosnt show up on my computer. It dosn't even show up in disk mangement. I then install Acronis Disk Director (which detects it) but marks it as offline. if i try to change it to online, nothing happens. (actually the lights on the HD blink - meaning communication and goes back into offline mode). The lights on the HD return to a solid which mean "working properly". • Remote Desktop Software - TeamViewer comparison?

  Preliminary Note: After reading what I wrote below, I would like to stress that this ain't a TeamViewer ad. It's just that all other tools that I checkked online seem to miss one feature or the other. :-) OK, so I'm currently trying to get a picture of available solutions for remote desktop software. I have found (through personal usage) that TeamViewer pretty much ticks all boxes that I personally would want from any remoting tool. (Specifically it's setup is amazingly trivial.) It supports a wide range of platforms and it's even free for private use, so I'm really quite OK with it. I would be interested if anyone knows of other tools that ticks as many boxes as TeamViewer seems to do.

• Cisco Aironet 1200 Series AP Configuration

  I am attempting to configure a new CISCO Aironet 1200 Series Access Point to have a fixed IP. I have been searching online and I have come to the conclusion that the default IP address of this device is 10.0.0.1. These are the steps I have taken: My machine is plugged directly into the Ethernet port (not the Console port) of the AP. My Ethernet adapter is set to 10.0.0.2. I have reset the AP by holding the Mode button while powering up the device. The issue remains that I can not access 10.0.0.1 through the web, nor can I ping that address.

• How Exchange integrates with DC

  This probably is a very open ended question, but really I'm only looking for a specific aspect I suppose. It relates to a reboot question I posted earlier, relating to restart orders of servers, Server Restart's and Respective Orders. Please take a look if you get a second for input! Basically - in relation to how Exchange integrates with AD, what would happen in two scenarios: 1). The Exchange server is booted up before the DC is online 2). • Windows (7 & Vista) laptop monitor does not come back after closing lid

  I'm experiencing an issue with Windows Vista (and now Windows 7) with my laptop. When I close the laptop lid the monitor goes blank but will not come back on after I re-open the laptop. The screen stays blank and nothing that I do will get it to come back. The laptop is an HP DV9000 series. Has anyone else ran into this issue? One of the solutions I've seen online is to go into the device manager and replace the lid driver with something nonsensical (the website suggested pointing the driver at the sound recorder). This does solve the problem by disabling the lid but doesn't really resolve the root issue. I'm asking if anyone has any method I can use to debug what's going on. How do I tell if it is an operating system issue vs. a malfunction within the lid itself. I'd actually like the lid to function as it's meant to. Thank you!

• How to check if redis master is OK?

  On the documentation, they advice the monitor command. But it has a 50% performance penalty for the whole system, and how should I do that ? Whatching the ouput using SSH until I don't see anything ? Let's say I have 3 servers: 1 with a redis master, 1 with a redis slave, and one with my website querying the redis master. How can I, from my website server, make cleany the decision to fallback to the slave by sending the SLAVEOF NO ONE command ? My first step would be to put some kind of timeout check with a simple ping, just to be sure the server is online. But for redis specifically, I have no clue.

• Ubuntu 11.04: No Audio Output

  I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 11.04 earlier this week and I'm having trouble getting my audio online. It was working fine in 10.04 and all the resources I can find on troubleshooting seem to be fairly dated so I'm not sure if they apply. CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio] Analog Stereo Duplex Playing a WMA file shows 0.00db output when I mouse over the sound controller in the status bar. Obviously, no output from my speakers. I tried adjusting the profile, thinking I might have the wrong one. That seems to have made things worse. Where mouse over originally said something along the lines of "Oxygen HD Audio," it now reads "Dummy Output." Selecting "Test Speakers" in sound preferences crashes the dialog. Any pointers would be great.
