• Unable to add CRM 2011's Organization service as Service Reference to VS project

  I have problem accessing Organization Service when I try to add it as a Service Reference in Visual Studio. However, I can Access the Service in browser. I have tried to add OrganizationData service and there is no issue with that. An Error occurred while attempting to find service at 'http://xxxxxxxx/xxxxx/XRMServices/2011/Organization.svc'. Error Details There was an error downloading 'http://xxxxxxxx/xxxxx/XRMServices/2011/Organization.svc/_vti_bin/ListData.svc/$metadata'. The request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://xxxxxxxx/xxxxx/XRMServices/2011/Organization.svc'. • Nested class with hidden constructor impossible in c#?

  I' ve been doing some programming lately and faced an issue which i found weird in c#. (at least for me) public class Foo { //whatever public class FooSpecificCollection : List<Bar> { //implementation details } public FooSpecificCollection GetFoosStuff() { //return the collection } } I want the consumer of Foo to be able to obtain a reference to FooSpecificCollection, even perform some operations on it. Maybe even set it to some other property of Foo or smth like that, but not To be able to CREATE an instance of this class. (the only class that should be able to instatiate this collection should be Foo. Is my request really that far-fetched? I know that people way smarter defined c# but shouldn't there be such an option that a parent class can create a nested class instance but nobody else can't. So far I created a solution to make an abstract class, or interface available through the property and implement a concrete private class that is not available anywhere else. Is this a correct way to handle such a situation.?

• python interactive web data/forms/interface communicating with remote server

  What's an efficient method (preferably simple as well) for communicating with a remote server and allowing the user to 'interact' with it (IE submit commands, user interface) via the web browser (IE a text box to input commands, and an text area for output, or various command-less abstracted interfaces)? I have the 'standalone' python code finished for communicating and working(terminal/console based right now). My primary concern is with re-factoring the code to suite the web, which involves establishing a connection (python sockets), and maintaining the connection while the user is logged on. some further details: currently using django framework for the basic back end/templates.

• How can a hacker put a file on my server root (apache, php, 1and1)

  Hi there, I have a site hosted on 1and1 and a couple of weeks ago I noticed a hacker had put a .php file on the server that when viewed in a browser exposed my DB schema, DB connection strings, FTP account (for file uploads using a form), etc, etc. Naturally I panicked and I wiped the server and reuploaded my files. Fortunatley I encrypt passwords using MD5 and I don't store things like credit card details, etc, etc. Now I checked my files and with all user input I use a clean function (htmlentities, sql_real_escape_string, etc, etc) that strips the input of any XSS or SQL injection. I have also made sure that the session key gets re-engineered when a user status changes (like they log into their account) to prevent session hijacking, my folder permissions are set to 755 and file permission are 644. Has anyone got any idea how this could have happened? Or if I'm missing something

• IE7,8 Alpha PNG fade

  Does anyone know what is causing this issue? http://i.imgur.com/z1pzh.png The div in question has a solid 1x1 alpha opaque png repeating in its background-image property, and it's supposed to be all one bg color, not that fading effect. It doesn't appear in FF, Opera or Chrome. If you need more details, I can provide some CSS, but I assure you the CSS is in order. If someone doesn't just out-and-out know why this is happening, they more than likely won't find an answer looking in the code.

• Exposing APIs - third party or homegrown?

  Parts of the project I'm currently working on (I can't give details) will be exposed as an API at some point over the next few months and I was wondering whether anyone could recommend a third party API 'provider' (possibly Mashery or SO advertiser Webservius). And I mean recommend in the 'I've used these people and they are good' sense because although I can google for an answer to this question it is more difficult to get truly unbiased opinions. As an addendum is there much mileage in creating a bespoke API solution and has anyone had any joy going down that road? Thanks in anticipation.

• Best way to store 3 pieces of data as a single entry

  For a game server, I want to record details when a player makes a kill, store this, and then at intervals update to a sql database. The part i'm interested in right now is the best method of storing the kill information. What i'd like to pass to the sql server on update would be {PlayerName, Kills, Deaths}, where the kills and deaths are a sum for the period between updates. So i'm assuming i'd build a list along the lines of {bob, 1, 0} {frank, 0, 1} {tom, 1, 0} {frank, 0, 1} then on update, consolidate the list to {frank, 14, 3}etc Can someone offer some advice please?

  Hi! I am having a hard time on this one, I have a folder over the network with public access (no credential restriction). I am trying to do a File.Exist or Directory.Exist and I keep on having a exception. Can someone tell me the good way to do IO over the network. EDIT 1 FOR DETAILS: if i do execture = \agoodip\Public\test.txt I get the file etc etc In my code it look like a basic Directory.Exist(@"\\agoodip\Public") or File.exist(@"\\agoodip\Public\test.txt") The exception I get is Path not found. • Can SHA-1 algorithm be computed on a stream? With low memory footprint?

  I am looking for a way to compute SHA-1 checksums of very large files without having to fully load them into memory at once. I don't know the details of the SHA-1 implementation and therefore would like to know if it is even possible to do that. If you know the SAX XML parser, then what I look for would be something similar: Computing the SHA-1 checksum by only always loading a small part into memory at a time. All the examples I found, at least in Java, always depend on fully loading the file/byte array/string into memory. If you even know implementations (any language), then please let me know!

  I'm working on a report in Visual Studio 2008 with their Report tooling and I'm not sure how to approach this conceptually. I have a report I want to generate. At the top of the report will be a bunch of information about a customer of our site (Name, Address, Phone). Then below will be a chart of the purchases that customer has each month. My problem is that I want the content at the top of the page to use a query that selects from my Users table in my database. But then I need another query that gets all of the purchases grouped by month. I've thought one way to approach this would be to place a subreport on the parent report that only contained the chart. The parent report would have the details of the account. Is this the correct approach?

• Customise a control in dynamics crm

  I've written code that can make a phone dial a number from a function call, that's done and dusted. What I would like to achieve is adding a Dial button to each phone number field on the forms in Dynamics CRM. Eventually this could also create a new phone record fill in the basic details and show it to the user to enter notes and an outcome for the phone call, and perhaps some other workflow bits to schedule the next call. Can I put a custom control on a standard form in place of the standard control. I'm assuming it would have to be an IFrame to an asp.net page, that pulls in the record id, and the field name, looks up the number to show in a text box, and passes the number to the DialNumber function. Hey presto... I assume its not going to be that easy... Has anyone tried this before, what's the process, what are the gotchas?

  Hello all. Here at work I have Visual Studio 2005 and Office 2007 installed. I'm trying to install the VSTO package to create a templated Word Document project. It's all fairly standard stuff (including basic authentication) but there seem to be several ways to achieve this using Microsoft technologies and I don't really know where to start.   I've been searching on how to solve this issue but could not find any real and working solution. User model: validates_attachment_content_type :avatar, :content_type = ['image/jpeg', 'image/pjpeg', 'image/x-png', 'image/png', 'image/gif'] Unnecessary error shows up when invalid file type is uploaded: Avatar /tmp/sample,23283,0.txt is not recognized by the 'identify' command. Server details: Ubuntu and Debian which identify results to /usr/bin/identify Specifying command path does not solve the issue: Paperclip.options[:command_path] = "/usr/bin" Any ideas? • Wanting to edit a google maps info bubble

  I have to edit an info bubble on a website to help someone out. The site is already online and i dont have the ftp login details so i cant download the files and use them locally to test it. So im having some issues with inserting a logo on the top of the bubble, like a header. Im also having problems with the code needed to add 'to here' and 'from here' directions at the bottom of the bubble. Everything else is plain text in the middle of these 2 objects, so thats easy.   I watched John Resig's Best Practices in JavaScript Library Design presentation; one slide suggested "tweaking" the object constructor so it instantiates itself. function jQuery(str, con) { if (window === this) { return new jQuery(str, con); } // ... } With that, new jQuery("#foo") becomes jQuery("# foo"). I thought it was rather interesting, but I haven't written a constructor like that in my own code. A little later I read a post here on SO. (Sorry, I don't remember which or I'd supply a link. I will update the question if I can find it again.) One of the comments said it was bad practice to hide new from the programmer like that, but didn't go into details. My question is, it the above generally considered good, bad, or indifferent, and why?
