  • Is there some performance issue between leaving empty ListProperties or using dynamic (expando) prop

    Is there a datastore performance difference between adding dynamic properties of the expando class when they are needed for an entity or the simpler (for me) framework of just setting up all possible properties I might need from the start even though most instances will just be left empty. In my specific case I would be having 5-8 empty ReferenceList properties as 'overhead' that will be empty when I skip using expando class.

    I have a simple Java program which reads a file directory and outputs a file list. I sort the files by name: String [] files = dirlist.list(); files = sort(files); My problem is that it sorts by name in a different way than Windows Explorer does. For instance if I have these files: abc1.doc, abc12.doc, abc2.doc. Java will sort like this: abc1.doc abc12.doc abc2.doc When I open the folder in Explorer, my files are sorted like this: abc1.doc abc2.doc abc12.doc How can I make Java sorts my files like in Windows Explorer? Is this a Windows trick?

  • setup lowcost image storage server with 24x SSD array to get high IOPS?

    I want to build let's name it a lowcost Ra*san which would host for our social site the images (many millions) we have 5 sizes of every photo with 3 KB, 7 KB, 15 KB, 25 KB and 80 KB per Image. My idea is to build a Server with 24x consumer 240 GB SSD's in Raid 6 which will give me some 5 TB Disk space for the photo storage. To have HA I can add a 2nd one and use drdb. I'm looking to get above 150'000 IOPS (4K Random reads). As we mostly have read access only and rarely delete photos i think to go with consumer MLC SSD. I read many endurance reviews and don't see there a problem as long we don't rewrite the cells. What you think about my idea? - I'm not sure between Raid 6 or Raid 10 (more IOPS, cost SSD). - Is ext4 OK for the filesystem - Would you use 1 or 2 Raid controller, with Extender Backplane If anyone has realized something similar i would be happy to get Real World numbers. UPDATE I have buy 12 (plus some spare) OCZ Talos 480GB SAS SSD Drive's they will be placed in a 12-bay DAS and attached to a PERC H800 (1GB NV Cache, manufactured by LSI with fastpath) Controller, I plan to setup Raid 50 with ext4. If someone is wondering about some benchmarks let me know what you would like to see.

  • C++ return a "NULL" object if search result not found

    I'm pretty new to C++ so I tend to design with a lot of Java-isms while I'm learning. Anyway, in Java, if I had class with a 'search' method that would return an object T from a Collection< T that matched a specific parameter, I would return that object and if the object was not found in the collection, I would return a NULL. Then in my calling function I would just check if(T != NULL) { ... } In C++, I'm finding out that I can't return a NULL if the object doesn't exist. I just want to return an 'indicator' of type T that notifies the calling function that no object has been found. I don't want to throw an exception because it's not really an exceptional circumstance. class Node { ....     In C# I am trying to get an instance of an Excel.Application object from a Process object. This seems like it should be really simple yet I cannot figure it out and cannot find an example. To repeat, I have a System.Diagnostics.Process object that I know refers to a running Excel instance. I now need to recover a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application object that refers to the process so that I can go about manipulating the Excel application from C#. In case it makes it any simpler, I also have the HWND id and window text associated with the active Excel window. Thanks.

I'm looking for the following: Benchmarks (including response times/pageload times et al) Links or results to similar benchmarks One (possible) method of testing Google Analytics (GA) on your site: Serve ga.js (the Google Analytics JavaScript file) from your own server. Update from Google Daily (test 1) and Weekly (test 2). I would be interested to see how this reduces the communication between the client webserver and the GA server. Has anyone conducted any of these tests? If so, can you provide your results? If not, does anyone have a better method for testing the performance hit (or lack thereof) for using GA?

    When you have a domain object that needs to display as an interface control, like a drop down list, ifwdev suggested creating an extension method to add a .ToSelectList(). The originating object is a List of objects that have properties identical to the .Text and .Value properties of the drop down list. Basically, it's a List of SelectList objects, just not of the same class name. I imagine you could use reflection to turn the domain object into an interface object. Anyone have any suggestions for C# code that could do this? The SelectList is an MVC drop down list of SelectListItem.     I am using the TCP/IP Adapter for BizTalk Server 2006 which was obtained from codeplex: http://www.codeplex.com/BTSTCPIP Once the application was deployed in production, we started to experience choking in the performance of the application. The more the requests, the more the performance degradation. Sometimes, it happens that the receive ports become non-responsive and we have to forcefully restart the host instances to temporarily let the services respond again but we experience the same problems again and again. I would like to ask if any of you have used the same adapter and have you ever experienced the similar issues? If yes, how can we overcome theses issues. Thanks.
