• Making headers readable on a multi colored background

  So the client wants a multi-colored background (think 4 colors of paint splats randomly all over the page. Because of this the headers are a bit hard to read. I've currently got them set up as black text with some white drop shadow, but it's still pretty hard to read in IE. How can I make the headers legible regardless of what is behind them (it's a CMS so position on the page is liable to change regularly)?

  I'm just learning about public key cryptography and I want to make a public key certificate for my web server so that I can use https. My server is hosted on some random free webhost that is practically impossible for anything...and so my question is this: Is there any harm in making my private key, public key, and public key certificate on my computer using openssl and then transferring it to the server? Thanks in advance. Also if there's anything else I'm missing, any help would be appreciated.

• Long 'Wait' Time for three php/CSS files. Is something blocking them?

  I have been speed optimizing a Wordpress site to little effect. There are three files CSS-related php files from the Wordpress theme that are delaying page loads on the site. One of the three files is basically one line of custom CSS from the custom CSS feature in the theme. You can see what I am talking about with this Pingdom speed test: The yellow is 'Wait'. There are no slow items in the cut-off portion of the image. The full results are here: Pingdom Results Page 1. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? I understand that I have blocking CSS or JS files, but I don't see anything that would be causing that long of a wait. When I ran the P3 Plugin Profiler, Wordpress and all plugins appeared fine -- it is the theme that is taking all the time. GTmetrix recommends avoiding dynamic queries. I assume all the ver=3.61 references are to the version of Wordpress (which I am using). I noticed that my Wordpress sites using other themes don't make this query (at least not over and over). 2. Is this typical coding practice? 3. How much negative impact do these query-strings have -- a little or a lot? I tried searching for similar questions here, please excuse me if I missed something. Sometimes, I know just enough to be dangerous.

  I have a PHP Form with two different fieldsets and about 4 labels within each. The form mailer is one i found on a tutorial but I'm not sure how to set in all the variables. Should all the 'label for' names also be the name of the variable? • Redirect from domain to other one

  I deal with the following problem. I am customer of one domain reseller, which has fair prices, fine administration, and I have all my domains registered by it. Recently I've created a new webpage using a free web service (those sites where you can create a simple webpages with some template after few clicks). This new web page has default address in the following form: "pagename.provider.cz", but I want to use my own domain "pagename.cz". And that is the problem, because the provider would assign domain name to my presentation only if I registered mentioned domain by him. That wouldn't be a problem, but he is three times more expensive then my favorite one. So I am thinking about registering domain "pagename.cz" under my favorite registrator and then making 301 PHP redirect from it to "pagename.provider.cz". Shall this affect (negatively) my domain ranking? Are there any catches which I shoud care about?

• YouTube fullscreen not displaying

  For some reason YouTube videos in my website do not get the fullscreen button, even if I added the parameter allowFullScreen set to true both in the object and embed tag. The allowFullScreen param is there, but the button won't show. • Should I disallow(robots.txt) archive/author pages with links already available on the front page? [on hold]

  I am working on a simple Wordpress blog where when an article is published, it appears on ALL these pages: Homepage - Headline(clickable) + 3-line summary Parent category page - Headline(clickable) + 3-line summary Child category page - Headline(clickable) + 3-line summary Author page - Headline(clickable) sitemap.xml I've been told that I should add all author pages to my robots.txt, under disallow, so as search engine bots do not spider /author/* since all links on these pages are available elsewhere. Is this a good approach or maybe rel=nofollow is better, or maybe I shouldn't worry about this at all?

• How do I use Instagram to post to my business page but not my personal page?

  I tried asking this question on the Facebook forums but got no answer, maybe someone here might be able to help me with this. I have a Facebook account and within that same account is my Facebook page for my business. Problem is every time that I try to use Instagram to upload a photo it gets uploaded to my personal/primary Facebook page and not the business page which is under the same email address and password. Instagram ask for this email address and password but how can I just have Instagram upload it to my business page and not my personal page? Or at very least how can I do both?

• Create subdomains via C-Panel or via domain registrar?

  I am a novice, so excuse me if it sounds dummy. I read a few similar questions on this topic here but they did not answer my question. I have a personal website, hosted with C-panel control panel. Via C-panel I can easily create new subdomains and I do not need to apply any DNS settings or so. And the subdomian is good to go immediately and are working fine. I have unlimited subdomains option. When I check my DNS management control panel in my domain registrar's site, there is no record associated with my subdomains. Now I want to buy a new domain name from 1and1, and have it as an add-on domain in my prevouse host. 1and1 say they only allow 5 subdomains. What does this mean? Can not I create unlimited subdomains under my new domain name, just as I do for my old domain? How does C-panel create and manage subdomains that there is nothing about it in my DNS control panel? • Nameserver Problem

  I recently bought a new VPS , and i was trying to set private nameservers in my domain cpanel. I went ahead and added 4 A records ns1.mydomain.com - points to my ip ns2.mydomain.com - points to my ip www.mydomain.com - points to my ip mydomain.com - points to my ip and changed the nameservers to ns1 & ns2.mydomain.com the problem is that now while typing www.ns1.mydomain.com and www.ns2.mydomain.com in browser it points to the correct IP address but the www.mydomain.com is saying an Error The webpage at http://demiracles.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. Error message in chrome is above. Please help me.

• 404 code/header for search engines, on removed user content?

  I just got an email, from a former user on my website He was complaining that Google still shows the contact page he created on my site, even though he deleted it a month ago This is the first time in many years anyone requests this I told him, that it's almost entirely up to Google what content it wants to keep/show and for how long. If it's deleted on the site, I can't do much, other than request a re-visit from the googlebot The user-page already now says something like "Not found. The user has removed the content" TL;DR: But the question is: Should I generally add a 404 header (or other) for dynamic user content that has been removed from the site? Or could this hurt the site (SEO)?

  Possible Duplicate: Why don't TITLE tags get indexed in google? Hello there, I have a h1 element on my page which is working great. I have also been using the title attribute on this element which I don't think has been causing much harm at all. My h1 title is "The Great Ocean Road" and the title attribute on that is "Great Ocean Road" - so it's a variation of the h1 text. These are both keywords for the site so i'm hoping it's a good thing for seo. Is that a bad idea do you think? I'm not sure what Search Engines think about using a title attribute or even if they would 'mark me down' for doing it in such a way. Do you think if the h1 text is "The Great Ocean Road", the title attribute should be "The Great Ocean Road" aswell? Thank you in advance

  I am a web developer that is starting to look into hosting his own website. I would like to showcase my programming skills (PHP, MySQl, C#, Wordpress). My knowledge of languages I am OK with but the actually hosting site is where my knowledge starts to get a little shaky. I know the basics (bandwidth, sub-domains, re-write rules) but I would love your input, to help me formulate a check list of certain web-hosting services that I should be on the look-out for. Also I was wondering if there were any reliable hosting providers who give you the option to host both c# code-behinds and PHP code. As I would like to have two versions of my site, one in C# and one in PHP the hope is that if I need to look for another job this website will help me show possible employers my server side knowledge. I hope this is enough info, I did some researching online but found a bunch of unless articles and I've always have had luck on the StackExchange sites. So hopefully you, can help me. Thanks alot.

• My website google index suddenly increase and also suddenly reduced

  Yesterday before i sleep, i check my site index. i get about 50 index on google. today morning when i wake up, i get 250 index on google. and my page ranking better on several keyword. than i add 1 page and 2 canonical link, add 404 page header, and resubmit sitemap. and after 2 hour, its going down to 50 index again. and my page ranking just rolled back to previous day. what is actually happen? is it because i resubmit sitemap? until now, google still crawl my website. do they try to refresh the index?

  I'm a web developer. When I start designing a site, I use a framework to handle templating for me, even if it's just rack + erubis. What do non-developers do? If you want to implement a site in HTML and CSS without a framework running on a webserver, without frames, and without WYSYWIG tools like Dreamweaver... how do you avoid copy-and-pasting the HTML of your navigation (for example) on every single page you're writing?   I'm currently using godaddy for all of my company domains, and I'm very unsatisfied with their service, specially with their site, so we are trying to migrate those domains to another provider. The question is, How do I transfer my domains to another domain registrar? I'm not talking about transferring domain records (A, MX...) but to use the same domains with another provider, and redo all the configuration again. For example, one of our blogs is hosted in Slicehost and we feel very confortable with their record editing tool.   This is the case: My site is getting a lot of trafic from an image (a company logo image) because this image is ranked 1.st in google search results for a company's title. • Problem on application with asp in IIS 7.5 with oracle 11g

• How accurate is header information received?

  Please see What could keep a javascript from loading properly on a page? In the header it shows that it is coming from IIS 6.0. How accurate is this information? Also this vendor (which is the worst I have worked with) made us go through a huge server switch process. Did they "upgrade" to W2003 IIS6.0? What would be the reason for a "new" server to be running this old of a version of IIS? Am I missing something?

• Webmatrix fails to connect PHP website to MySQL

  I downloaded the latest versions of Webmatrix and MySQL. I downloaded a PHP-MySQL Connector: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/php-mysqlnd/ In the "Databases" Workspace I pressed "New Connection" button and choose "MySQL Connection" In the Dialog box I filled-in all connection details -- It looks like the database was added. But then when I double-click on the database, I get a short error message saying it cannot connect. I tried everything, searched the web... I'm sure it's a very simple question, so please whoever can help I'll be grateful. I think best solution for me would be if someone could please just give me a link to download of: Webmatrix,MySQL,Connector; and instructions on how to install and then how to connect. This would be the safest way to help me.

• Remember me or not?

  I was told to post this on webmasters instead of stackoverflow. Is it safe to have the remember me feature? Would it be somewhat safe (knowing it won't be 100% safe) to allow users to close their browser and come back still logged in? I am not exacting sure which way I should go after reading different things about safety. I learned about session fixation and implemented security to add more protection. From experience, if remember me is checked then only your username/email appears and requires you to re-enter your password. Other sites allow you to come in and out as much as you way without logging out after the browser has closed.
