• JSF: Cannot catch ViewExpiredException

  I'm developing a JSF 2.0 application on Glassfish v3 and i'm trying to handle the ViewExpiredException. But whatever i do, i always get a Glassfish error report instead of my own error page. To simulate the occurrence of the VEE, i inserted the following function into my backing bean, which fires the VEE. I'm triggering this function from my JSF page through a commandLink. The Code: @Named public class PersonHome { (...) public void throwVEE() { throw new ViewExpiredException(); } } At first i tried it by simply adding an error-page to my web.xml: <error-page> <exception-type>javax.faces.application.ViewExpiredException</exception-type> <location>/error.xhtml</location> </error-page> But this doesn't work, i'm not redirected to error but i'm shown the Glassfish errorpage, which shows a HTTP Status 500 page with the following content: description:The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request. exception: javax.servlet.ServletException: javax.faces.application.ViewExpiredException root cause: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException:javax.faces.application.ViewExpiredException root cause:javax.faces.application.ViewExpiredException Next thing i tried was to write ExceptionHandlerFactory and a CustomExceptionHandler, as described in JavaServerFaces 2.0 - The Complete Reference. • Calling Web Service with Complex Parameters in ADF Mobile

  Many of the SOAP based web services out there have parameters of specific object types - so not just simple String/int inputs. The ADF Web service data control makes it quite simple to interact with them. And this applies also in the case of ADF Mobile. Since there were several thread on OTN asking about this - I thought I'll do a quick demo to refresh people memory about how you pass these "complex" parameters to your Web service methods. By the way - this video is also relevant if you are not doing mobile development, you'll basically use the exact same process for building "regular web" ADF applications that access these types of Web services. One more thing you might want to do after you create the page is look at the binding tab to see the method call in there, and notice the parameters for it in the structure property. Go and look at their NDValue property to get the complete picture.

During this phase, the expression merely accesses the value of name from the customer bean, as is done in immediate evaluation. For a postback request, the JavaServer Faces implementation evaluates the expression at different phases of the lifecycle, during which the value is retrieved from the request, validated, and propagated to the customer bean. I am not sure I understand initial request vs postback request. Does the client browser make two different request to the webserver?

• Binding Contents of a ListBox to Selected Item from Another Listbox w/JSF & Managed Beans

  Hi there! I currently have a JSF application that uses two listboxes. The first, say ListBox1, contains a list of manufacturers; each option comes from the database (via a method getManufacturers in a class called QueryUtil), is populated dynamically, and its value is an integer ID. This part works so far. My goal is to populate a second listbox, say ListBox2, with a list of products sold by the manufacturer. This list of products will come from the database as well (products are linked to a manufacturer via a foreign key relationship, via a method getProducts in my QueryUtil class). How do I go about doing this? Please bear in mind that I've been working with JSF for under 24 hours; I'm willing to accept the fact that I'm missing something very rudimentary. • Rich text editor for JSF 2

  Hi, I searched around for a basic WYSIWYG rich text editor that I can use in a JSF 2 (VDL) application, but found nothing satisfactory.. in the sense that: The editor is very extensive, and not configurable (like PrettyFaces) The editor doesn't work with VDL (like RichFaces) Multiple instances of the editor cannot be used on the same page (like Tomahawk t:htmlArea) I actually don't need all the fancy things like Fonts, Indenting/justification, undo/redo... just Bold, Italic, Lists and Hyperlinks would suffice. Do you know of something that works well in this scenario, as well as gives out XHTML compliant markup, and works well with partial page refreshes(f:ajax), or would you recommend that I write my own? However when the user enter some data in the input fields and then click the submit button, the model is not correctly updated and therefore the mergeInput() method creates a sequence of empty strings which is rendered on the same page. I have added some logging to the decode() method of my custom component and I can see that the parameters entered by the user are being posted back with the request, however these parameters are not used to update the data model. If I update the encodeBegin() method of my custom component as follow @Override public void encodeBegin(FacesContext context) throws IOException { super.encodeBegin(context); } and I update the test page as follow <test:MatrixTest id="tb" var="row" value="#{MyManagedBean.model}"> <h:column id="c0"><h:inputText id="t0" value="#{row[0]}"/></h:column> <h:column id="c1"><h:inputText id="t1" value="#{row[1]}"/></h:column> <h:column id="c2"><h:inputText id="t2" value="#{row[2]}"/></h:column> </test:MatrixTest> the page is correctly rendered and this time when the user enters data and submits the form, the underlying data model is correctly updated and the mergeInput() method creates a sequence of strings with the user data. Why does the test case with columns declared in the facelet page works correctly (ie the data model is correctly updated by JSF) where the same does not happen when the columns are created at runtime using the encodeBegin() method? Is there any method I need to invoke or interface I need to extend in order to ensure the data model is correctly updated? I am using this test case to address the issue that is appearing in a much more complex component, therefore I can't achieve the same functionality using a facelet composite component. Please note that this has been done using NetBeans 6.8, JRE 1.6.0u18, GlassFish 3.0. Thanks for your help.

• Introducing Ajax support in a MyFaces (JSF) + Tomahawk application

  Hi, we have a project we we are using MyFaces + Tomahawk, recently I have been requested to provide enhancements to many of the existing screens by using AJAX and provide functionality such as partial refresh. As I see, Tomahawk's components don't have special support for Ajax, so it may be a lot of work to hack Tomahawk in order to use Ajax. Now, I have seen that there are other frameworks such as Trinidad, ajax4jsf, RichFaces, etc. I'm specially interested in Trinidad since it is also a MyFaces project and it has built-in Ajax support, but I'm not still convinced about Trinidad since the other frameworks also have very promising features. Considering that I have a MyFaces+Tomahawk application, what move would you suggest to take in order to introduce Ajax support? Hack with Tomahawk or directly with JSF/MyFaces? Use Trinidad? Use/Add a different framework? Thanks.

I'll try to demonstrate you what I need to make. inputField1 inputField2 inputField3 BUTTON1 inputField4 inputField5 BUTTON2 inputField6 inputFiled7 inputField8 inputField9 BUTTON3 I hope you understand me what I want to make. So I when I click on some of the buttons I have to collect the data from the input fields and do something with the data. If I click BUTTON1 I collect data from inputField1 inputField2 inputField3 BUTTON2 inputField4 inputField5, etc. Probably I should create the input fields programmatically and group them in forms. Any idea how to do it? Any idea?

  Hello, This is my messages_en_US.properties file in WEB-INF/classes folder :- Login=Login And then i created messages_fr_FR.properties :- Login=frenchLogin Then in my JSF page i wrote this :- <f:loadBundle basename="messages" var="msg"/> <h:commandButton id="btnLogin" value="#{msg.Login}" actionListener="#{IndexBean.doLogin}"/> I can correctly see the Login text by default. But when i go in firefox and change my default language to fr-fr, my text still remains the same i.e i can't see frenchLogin. I don't have anything in my faces-config.xml What am i doing wrong? • JSF, actionlistener at facelets

  Hi there, I'm using JSF (Mojarra 1.2) with Richfaces (3.3.2) within some facelets which are used as portlets (I'm using the Jboss Portlet Bridge 2.0 here). Now I'm facing something strange: I've got an actionlistener on my <h:commandButton> which is triggered, when the button is clicked but when I simply reload the page, the action is executed everytime I load the page again. This happens only if I already triggered the action before. Is this behaviour normal? I should notice that Spring 2.5 is used to manage my beans, the mentioned beans are session-scope beans, maybe this is a interessting point?!

• Adding a row to an existing datatable in JSF

  Hi, I have a requirement of changing an existing JSF 1.1 project where I need to add an additional row to a datatable on click of a button. Currently the datatable loads 3 rows from the backing bean and this new button should add additional rows to the datatable on each click. Using the suggestion provided by http://balusc.blogspot.com/2006/06/using-datatables.html I was able to display the additional row on the UI but I could not save the new data back to the database because the backing bean is in request scope and I cannot change the scope of this bean as it would create other issues. Can somebody provide me a solution to display the new row and also to save the data back to the database when the backing bean is in request scope. Thanks Shyam

• JSF hiding exceptions?

  I have a managed bean for a JSF page which is doing JPA calls in the constructor to populate fields in the bean. I'm having a bit of trouble with another call to persist an entity (to populate data for testing). I'm expecting it to throw some sort of exception since it's not working, but I'm not getting anything. Just of the heck of it I tried the following: Query newQuery = em.createQuery("Bad Syntax"); List newList = newQuery.getResultList(); I'd expect an IllegalArgumentException here since the query string is completely invalid, but the page still loads and I don't see any exceptions anywhere. Am I right in expecting this exception? If so, why am I not seeing it?

• JSON ARRAY and JSF

  Hi, Im working with JSF and EXT js. I have a JSONArray created in the server-side and I want to pass it to client-side. I used to get the array and put it in javascript var. but this tag adds a html tag (span) which make an error in javascript var ! this is the code I wrote : var data1 = <h:outputFormat value="#{actorBean.newactors}" /> and this is the code of my page after running : var data1 =<span>[[&quot;aaaaaaa&quot;,&quot;bbbbbbb&quot;]]</span> so do u have any idea how to get the array without all the tags added ? thanks

• Using Web Flow 2 in JSF application

  Hi, I created a JSF cart application which runs just fine. I am using 'redirect' to fix the problem with refresh. The problem is when there is multiple page flow logic like if you haven't signed up you need to sign up or create an account, and once you do that you need to be redirected back to where you were when you were asked to sign up in the first place. So my goal is to use Web Flow 2 in order to make navigation rules easier to code. I have been working on them separately but I don't know how to merge so that Web Flow can handle navigation instead. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks.

• JSF - Session Bean restart on logout and login

  Hi, I have a web application with a backing bean which has the context of the current logged in user. It is implemented on JSF. When the user logs out he is forwarded to a login screen (in another JSP page). I would like the current session to be erased when that happens and a new one to be created the next time the user logs in and enters the application. My question is - how do you delete a session? (I guess the new session will be created automatically the next time the user enters the link) This is kinda newb i guess, but I couldn't find a solution for this. Thanks for the Help!

• immediate=true is set on a jsf command button but still seeing validation

  I have the following command button set up in a facelet: <h:commandButton action="#{addressAction.deletePreviousAddress}" value="#{bundle['button.deleteAddress']}" styleClass="deg-form-button" immediate="true"> <f:setPropertyActionListener target="#{addressAction.addressActionForm.previousAddress}" value="#{address}"> </f:setPropertyActionListener> </h:commandButton> In AddressAction, the following code gets run to delete a previous address on the form: public Enum<NavigationConstants> deletePreviousAddress() { addressActionForm.getPreviousAddresses().remove(addressActionForm.getPreviousAddress()); return NavigationConstants.addresses; } Before I made the address input components "required=true", this code worked fine and removed the previous address from the jsf form successfully. Right now, I can't successfully delete a previous address because validation is occurring and stating that the input components need to be filled in on the previous address record on the form. How can I bypass this validation? I thought the "immediate=true" attribute on the command button would have accomplished it but that's not cutting it in my case...

• Parent Page becomes ‘frozen’ in Safari after commandLink with target=“_blank” is pressed in JSF 1.2

  On my webpage when i press command link its opening a new page perfectly on IE7/Firefox 3/Chrome/Safari 4.0.4 but after this none of the parent page's command buttons are not working ,this happens only in safari.I am using JSF 1.2 mojara. Following is the my command link code: <h:commandLink onclick="submitPrint('selectedAttributes',criteriaGrid,clauseGrid)" action="#{reportBacking.print}" target="_blank"></h:commandLink> I have seen several fourms regarding this problem but they are suggesting the use of new mojara version which solves the some famous javascript problem document.forms Vs document.getElementByID().but my final javascript is fine (its using document.getElementById thing).
