  • Firefox extension file structure best practice

    - by user353969
Is it a good practice to put js files of the "content" folders in inner folders representing their logical module? For example have a "datalayer" and "view" folders? I looked into some well known extensions, such as Firebug, and saw no such devision. I'm a Java developer so its seems much more natural to divide the files logically.

  • [Java2D] Is this bad practice? Multiple Graphics2D Objects

    - by m00st
I've created a JPanel canvas that holds all graphics; namely JLabel. To get animated sprites to work you have to over ride the paintComponent of the extended JLabel class. I've successfully implemented animated sprites this way. Is it bad practice to have a Graphics2D canvas and then have multiple 'images' in their own Graphics2D?

  • Standard Practice for Continuous Integration of Maven Multi-module projects

    - by James Kingsbery
I checked around, and couldn't find a good answer to this: We have a multi-module Maven project which we want to continuously integrate. We thought of two strategies for handling this: Have our continuous integration server (TeamCity, in this case, but I've used others before and they seem to have the same issue) point to the aggregator POM file, and just build everything Have our continuous integration server point at each individual module Is there a standard, preferred practice for this? I've checked Stack Overflow, Google, the Continuous Integration book, and did not find anything, but maybe I missed it.

  • question about book example - Java Concurrency in Practice, Listing 4.12

    - by mike
Hi, I am working through an example in Java Concurrency in Practice and am not understanding why a concurrent-safe container is necessary in the following code. I'm not seeing how the container "locations" 's state could be modified after construction; so since it is published through an 'unmodifiableMap' wrapper, it appears to me that an ordinary HashMap would suffice. EG, it is accessed concurrently, but the state of the map is only accessed by readers, no writers. The value fields in the map are syncronized via delegation to the 'SafePoint' class, so while the points are mutable, the keys for the hash, and their associated values (references to SafePoint instances) in the map never change. I think my confusion is based on what precisely the state of the collection is in the problem. Thanks!! -Mike Listing 4.12, Java Concurrency in Practice, (this listing available as .java here, and also in chapter form via google) /////////////begin code @ThreadSafe public class PublishingVehicleTracker { private final Map<String, SafePoint> locations; private final Map<String, SafePoint> unmodifiableMap; public PublishingVehicleTracker( Map<String, SafePoint> locations) { this.locations = new ConcurrentHashMap<String, SafePoint>(locations); this.unmodifiableMap = Collections.unmodifiableMap(this.locations); } public Map<String, SafePoint> getLocations() { return unmodifiableMap; } public SafePoint getLocation(String id) { return locations.get(id); } public void setLocation(String id, int x, int y) { if (!locations.containsKey(id)) throw new IllegalArgumentException( "invalid vehicle name: " + id); locations.get(id).set(x, y); } } // monitor protected helper-class @ThreadSafe public class SafePoint { @GuardedBy("this") private int x, y; private SafePoint(int[] a) { this(a[0], a[1]); } public SafePoint(SafePoint p) { this(p.get()); } public SafePoint(int x, int y) { this.x = x; this.y = y; } public synchronized int[] get() { return new int[] { x, y }; } public synchronized void set(int x, int y) { this.x = x; this.y = y; } } ///////////end code

  • WCF Best Practice for "Overloaded" methods

    - by Nate Bross
What is the best practice for emulating overloaded methods over WCF? Typically I might write an interface like this interface IInterface { MyType ReadMyType(int id); IEnumerable<MyType> ReadMyType(String name); IEnumerable<MyType> ReadMyType(String name, int maxResults); } What would this interface look like after you converted it to WCF?

  • Best Practice: User generated HTML cleaning

    - by Martin
I'm coding a WYSIWYG editor width designMode="on" on a iframe. The editor works fine and i store the code as is in the database. Before outputing the html i need to "clean" with php on the server-side to avoid cross-site-scripting and other scary things. Is there some sort of best practice on how to do this? What tags can be dangerous? UPDATE: Typo fixed, it's What You See Is What You Get. Nothing new :)

  • Best practice to modularise a large Grails app?

    - by Mulone
Hi all, A Grails app I'm working on is becoming pretty big, and it would be good to refactor it into several modules, so that we don't have to redeploy the whole thing every time. In your opinion, what is the best practice to split a Grails app in several modules? In particular I'd like to create a package of domain classes + relevant services and use it in the app as a module. Is this possible? Is it possible to do it with plugins? Cheers, Mulone

  • Best practice to include log4Net external config file in ASP.NET

    - by Martin Buberl
I have seen at least two ways to include an external log4net config file in an ASP.NET web application: Having the following attribute in your AssemblyInfo.cs file: [assembly: log4net.Config.XmlConfigurator(ConfigFile = "Log.config", Watch = true)] Calling the XmlConfigurator in the Global.asax.cs: protected void Application_Start() { XmlConfigurator.Configure(new FileInfo("Log.config")); } What would be the best practice to do it?

  • Good practice : compare a value with a boolean?

    - by NLemay
Most of the time, I prefer to write this : if(isWelcome() == true){} if(isWelcome() == false){} instead of this if(isWelcome()){} if(!isWelcome()){} Because I feel that it is easier to read (but I do understand that it doesn't make sense). I would like to know if there is a common agreement about this practice. What most developer do? And I'm wondering if the compiler is doing the extra comparaison, or if it understand that it is useless.

  • Spring @Transactional Annotation Best Practice

    - by Thomas Einwaller
We are currently discussing the Best Practice for placing the @Transactional annotations in our code. Do you place the @Transactional in the DAO classes and/or their methods or is it better to annotate the Service classed which are calling using the DAO objects? Or does it make sense to annotate both "layers"?

  • best practice when referring to a program's name in C

    - by guest
what is considered best practice when referring to a program's name? i've seen #define PROGRAM_NAME "myprog" printf("this is %s\n", PROGRAM_NAME); as well as printf("this is %s\n", argv[0]); i know, that the second approach will give me ./myprog rather than myprog when the program is not called from $PATH and that the first approach will guarantee consistence regarding the program's name. but is there anything else, that makes one approach superior to the other?

  • Best Practice: Direct SQL Access vs. Web Service

    - by phsr
With respect to an application that has both a web and desktop client version: What is the best practice for the desktop client which needs access to a SQL Server? What are the benefits of connecting to the database from the application vs using a web service? Which one provides better security? What type of scope would call for one vs the other (enterprise intranet vs. web app, etc) Are there any other considerations that are necessary when choosing on platform?

  • Good practice of using list of function in Python

    - by riskio
I am pretty new to python and I discovered by myself that I can create a list of function and call with a for loop. example: def a(args): print "A" def b(args): print "B" def c(args): print "C " + str(args) functions = [a,b,c] for i in functions: i(1) So, my question is: is there any good practice or elegant way to use list of functions and what is a good use of all this? (do have a particular name the "list of functions"?) thank you

  • heartbeat: Bad nodename in /etc/ha.d//haresources [node1]

    - by Richard
I'm trying to start heartbeat on Ubuntu 10.04 with service heartbeat start, but getting the following errors: heartbeat[24829]: 2011/11/22_19:31:07 ERROR: Bad nodename in /etc/ha.d//haresources [node1] heartbeat[24829]: 2011/11/22_19:31:07 ERROR: Configuration error, heartbeat not started. On on server uname -n produces loadb1, on the second server uname -n produces loadb2. The two servers can ping each other okay with those names. This is /etc/ha.d/ha.cnf on both servers: debugfile /var/log/ha-debug logfile /var/log/ha-log logfacility local0 keepalive 2 deadtime 10 udpport 694 bcast eth1 ucast eth0 my.external.ip ucast eth0 my.external.ip ucast eth1 10.0.0.5 ucast eth1 10.0.0.6 #udp eth0 node loadb1 node loadb2 auto_failback off And this is /etc/ha.d/haresources on both servers: node1 IPaddr::46.20.121.113 httpd smb dhcpd Authkeys is also set up. What am I doing wrong? The part where I'm least clear is the ucast/bcast lines.

  • rpmbuild on Cent OS 6: "cpio: bad magic"

    - by djhaskin987
When I try to run this command : rpmbuild -bb SPECS/software.spec I get an error when the WAR file (as in tomcat java web archive file) is being added to the rpm: error: create archive failed on file /<filepath>/<filename>.war: cpio: Bad magic This didn't use to happen. The only things that have changed since this worked was an upgrade. Further, no problems are happening like it on my CentOS 5 box. I compile and build the exact same code set on both machines, but CentOS 6 won't create an rpm. How do I troubleshoot this? I have already googled it and received few (if any) useful links. This appears nowhere in the user guide for RPM as far as I can see, and Maximum RPM has no section on this.

  • Hard disk with bad clusters

    - by Dan
I have been trying to backup some files up to DVD recently, and the burn process failed saying the CRC check failed for certain files. I then tried to browse to these files in Windows explorer and my whole machine locks up and I have to reboot. I ran check disk without the '/F /R' arguments and it told me I had bad sectors. So I re-ran it with the arguments and check disk fails during the 'Chkdsk is verifying usn journal' stage with this error: Insufficient disk space to fix the usn journal $j data stream The hard disk is a 300GB Partition on a 400GB Disk, and there is 160GBs of free space on the partition. My os (Windows 7) is installed on the other partition and is running fine. Any idea how I fix this? or repair it enough to copy my files off it?

  • Using AuthzSVNAccessFile for controlling SVN Access produces HTTP 400 Bad Request

    - by meeper
I have a new repository on an existing subversion server that requires us to perform path based authorization within the repository. I found that the AuthzSVNAccessFile directive in apache is directly responsible for allowing this functionality. After fixing several other problems such as AuthzSVNAccessFile preventing SVNListParentPath from operating properly, I am left with one single problem. I can checkout, I can update, I can commit, BUT I cannot execute an SVN COPY for performing branch/tagging operations. The moment I comment out the AuthzSVNAccessFile line in the Apache config everything works as expected except the obvious path authorizations. Versions: The server OS is Debian 6.0.7 (Squeeze) Apache 2.2.16-6+squeeze11 Server Subversion 1.6.12dfsg-7 Clients are running windows Clients tried are: TortoiseSVN 1.8.2 Build 24708 64bit SVN CLI Client 1.8.3 (r1516576) Authentication is performed via AD to a Windows 2003 domain and appears to be operating normally. I have stripped out all other configurations and repository setups to produce this single configuration that reproduces the problem. Apache Configuration: <VirtualHost *:443> ServerName svn-test.company.com ServerAlias /svn-test ServerAdmin [email protected] SSLEngine On SSLCertificateFile /etc/apache2/apache.pem ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/svn-test_error.log LogLevel warn CustomLog /var/log/apache2/svn-test_access.log combined ServerSignature On # Repository Access to all Repositories <Location "/"> DAV svn SVNParentPath /var/svn SVNListParentPath on AuthBasicProvider ldap AuthType Basic AuthzLDAPAuthoritative Off AuthName "Subversion Test Repository System" AuthLDAPURL "ldap://adserver.company.com:389/DC=corp,DC=company,DC=com?sAMAccountName?sub?(objectClass=*)" NONE AuthLDAPBindDN "CN=service_account,OU=ServiceIDs,OU=corp,OU=Delegated,DC=na,DC=corp,DC=company,DC=com" AuthLDAPBindPassword service_account_password Require valid-user SSLRequireSSL </Location> # <LocationMatch /.+> is a really dirty trick to make listing of repositories work # http://d.hatena.ne.jp/shimonoakio/20080130/1201686016 <LocationMatch /.+> AuthzSVNAccessFile /etc/apache2/svn_path_auth </LocationMatch> </VirtualHost> SVN Access File: [/] * = rw The repository used (AuthTestBasic) consists of the following directory structure and contains no externals (this is a literal listing, not an example): / /branches/ /tags/ /trunk/ /trunk/somefile.txt Tortoise produces the following error during a tag operation in it's tag result window: Adding directory failed: COPY on /authtestbasic/!svn/bc/2/trunk (400 Bad Request) The svn.exe CLI client produces the following error: C:\Users\e20epkt>svn copy https://servername/authtestbasic/trunk https://servername/authtestbasic/tags/tag1 -m "svn cli client" svn: E175002: Adding directory failed: COPY on /authtestbasic/!svn/bc/2/trunk (400 Bad Request) The Apache error log has nothing in it, however the apache access log has the following in it (IP addresses and usernames changed obviously): 10.1.2.100 -
