• Is there a way to change the map data for the Android Google Map API?

  I need to use a different datasource inside a map in Android than the google provided data. Is there a way to change the datasource to a tile based service (openstreetmap.org for example)? Or are there other Android map APIs which are OpenSource and can be adapted (except Ericcson Mobile Maps - this doesn't work for me because of the licence)? It doesent have to have a server side part - a rich function library would be enough.

• Encrypt EC2 API call

  I have to host an AMI in the Amazon Marketplace. i need to get the type of instance, whenever some user launches the AMI., like if its small medium or large. based on that i need to make some changes in the AMI when its created. I can do this with Amazon API call, to get the instance type, but the problem is that the instances created with the AMI will be started by other users, and i cannot use my AWS Credentials in the Amazon API. Is there any way that i can create an anonymous readonly user to make only specific type of EC2 API Calls? Or can i encrypt my EC2 API credentials, so no one can use it?

  In an iPhone application I'm developing I need to get GPS coordinates to perform some actions based on the values received. Users should have two possibilities of giving the location: automatically from iPhone build-in GPS by finding a specific point on a map (Google Maps) I know how to user CLLocationManager to get current position coordinates and I know how to add Google Maps using JS API. What I would like to know if how can I get coordinates for a specific point on a map that user clicks. Is that possible with UIWebView or is there any other way of getting the values I need?

• z-Index overlay in google maps version 3

  Hi, I'm trying to get an overlay in google maps api v3 to appear above all markers. But it seems that the google api always put my overlay with lowest z-index priority. Only solution i've found is to iterate up through the DOM tree and manually set z-index to a higher value. Poor solution.   Hello again, I think the title says it all. I'm using Reminder fifteenMinReminder = new Reminder(); fifteenMinReminder.Minutes = 15; fifteenMinReminder.Method = Reminder.ReminderMethod.email; entry.Reminders.Add(fifteenMinReminder); on a brand new entry (where Reminder and Reminders are Nothing), but I cannot add a reminder using the above code (taken straight from the Google Docs), or set the entry.Reminder to fifteenMinReminder directly either. What am I doing wrong? I've had no trouble .adding When and Where's to the entry, but the Reminder doesn't want to follow the same pattern. Any ideas?

  I have an app in J2EE with a couple of projects. Got my .war project that communicates with a EJB business project which has access to some Data. I have an entity which has some information about places, and I want to show a collection of those places in a single map on a JSF page. I have a Collection of coordinates to be assigned as points on a polyline in Google maps, and I've got this collection as a return of a java function of the jsf page, but I dont know how to get this collection from jsf and then how to make the map work I'll be very greatful if someone can give me some jsf code as an example. (and if someone knows how to set the autoReshape attribute for maps in jsf using javascript, please tell me the secret!!!!) Thanks a lot.

• Google maps API : V2 : Custom infowindow with bindInfoWindowHtml

  The API documentation gave me hopes last night with "bindInfoWindowHtml". But it doesn't seem to replace the default infoWindow, even when you provide your own class etc. I have tried using other ideas like the labeledmarker. But it doesn't support draggable markers. Hence can't use it in my application. Here is the sample code which shows the info. window inside, the original bubble. I see that MVCArray has a method forEach which uses a call back, but I have no idea how to use this (I haven't done much js). My requirement is like I want to pass post codes to maps.google.com and it should return a related latitude and longitude of that pointed location, that I want to store in my database.   I'd like to use use maps in my application, so that there will be as less as possible traffic. Perfect solution would be caching of map slices. I know it's not possible with google maps (license). I took a look on OpenStreetMaps and it seems as good solution. The next: SDK. The only one I've found is from CloudMade. The problem is, I found no related API methods for caching/offline calls. Are there any alternative solutions?

  I finally got this google maps page working however, it seems that everybody except the client can see it? They're saying the following error message appears "This web site needs a different Google Maps API key. A new key can be generated at..." Here's the page: http://www.sportingemporium.com/google-map.htm When I sign-up for a new key Goggle gives me exactly the same one that I am already using!   Hi, I'd like to display a highlighted polygon using Google Maps. The idea is that the polygon in question would be displayed normally and the rest of the map should be darkened a little bit. Here's an example image what I would like to accomplish with a polygon from Austria: Unfortunately, I'm a complete rookie when it comes to Google Maps API's and map stuff in general. So, is this even possible do this with Google Map API's? If yes, with what version (v2, v3)? Would it be easier to do it with other map toolkits, like openlayers? PS: One idea I had, was to build an inverse polygon (in this example, the whole world minus the shape of austria) and then display a black colored overlay with transparency using this inverted polygon. But that seems to be quite complicated to me.

• Question about finding third party website APIs.

  I have a client that works with several well established 3rd party sites to sell his product (in this case hotel rooms, but the question is more general). Every time he gets a reservation he has to go to each site and manually make changes. I've done a quick search to see if there are APIs or any developer resources for these sites but have come up with nothing. I've emailed his contacts for each site but have yet to receive a response. I don't have a lot of experience working with third party sites like this but in the past when I've looked for APIs I usually come up empty handed. Are these types of APIs rare or am I just looking in the wrong places? It seems like an obvious thing to have for a company that has an affiliate program. Any suggestions on where to look for APIs or am I at the mercy of my "contact"?

• Google maps event problem with flex actionscript

  I am able to render a google map on a flex canvas. I create the map using the code below and then place markers on it in the onMapReady method (not shown) var map:com.google.maps.Map=new com.google.maps.Map(); map.id="map"; map.key="bla bla"; _mapCanvas.addChild(map); map.addEventListener(MapEvent.MAP_READY,onMapReady); It all works fine. However, if I remove the map and then set _mapCanvas to null, then run exactly the same code again, the onMapReady event does not fire. It is weird, but once a map has been created and deleted, the onMapReady event never seems to fire again. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

  I'm loading my google maps into div class="extra" style="display: none;" /. As soon as the AJAX request is complete, the map_canvas div is placed inside the hidden div and the hidden div will be vissible with the toggleDown jquery effect. In FF it's working perfect, but in IE the Google maps (map_canvas div) is already visible before the toggleDown effect is started. I think the z-index and the relative position of the map_canvas div wich is loaded into the hidden div will place the map_canvas div on top of the hidden div. What do i have to change to make sure the map_canvas div is not on top of the hidden div?   Hi, We have a database which has location-based search using Google Maps API. However searching by state or territory in Australia is problematic because Google Maps locates these at the centre of the states and most population centres in Australia are on the coast. We need to hand code in the latitudes and longitudes so that when someone searches for the state 'NSW', for example, the database returns relevant results. Does anyone know where to find a list of the coordinates for the boundaries of Australian states & territories to code into the database? This will save our busy programmer a lot of time. • Tips on designing a .NET API for future use with F#

  I'm in the process of designing a .NET API to allow developers to create RoboCup agents for the 3D simulated soccer league. I'm pretty happy with how the API work with C# code, however I would like to use this project to improve my F# skill (which is currently based on reading rather than practice). So I would like to ask what kinds of things I should consider when designing an API that is to be consumed by both C# and F# code. Some points. I make fairly heavy use of matrix and vector math. These are currently immutable classes/structs. The API currently defines a few interfaces with the consumer implements (eg: IAgent), using instances of their implementations (eg: MyAgent) to construct other API classes (eg: new Client(myAgent)). The API fires events. The API exposes a few delegate types. The API includes several enums. I'd like to release a version of the API as soon as possible and don't want to make major changes to it later if I realise it's too difficult to work with from F#. Any advice is appreciated.

• How to return a value from facebook javascript connect api fucntions

  I am trying to create wrapper functions on facebook javascript connect api methods. My problem is that i can not return a value within the facebook api FB_RequireFeatures method. i want my isFBConnected() function to return true or false based on if i'm logged into facebook or not. What is happening is that when i return true it returns it to the child function, which makes sense however, my global "login" variable does not get set to true.
