  • How do I stop postfix from handling my mail?

    - by Tatu Ulmanen
Here's the situation: I have a domain, let's say domain.com. That domain has Google Apps for Business enabled, so all mail delivered to @domain.com will end up at Google (MX records point to Google). I have a PHP script at domain.com that I use to send mail to myself. But when the PHP script tries to send mail to [email protected], Postfix at that server decides that the recipient is a local user (because the address matches the domain Postfix itself is at), and tries to deliver the mail locally. But inevitably fails as the mailbox cannot be found. How can I instruct Postfix to not try to handle locally any emails to @domain.com and just send them forward so Google can pick them up? I have already removed $myhostname from mydestination field in Postfix's main.cf file, and I have restarted Postfix but Postfix still tries to deliver the mail locally. Here's a snip from mail.log that show the problem (addresses replaced): postfix/pickup[20643]: AF718422E5: uid=33 from=<server> postfix/cleanup[20669]: AF718422E5: message-id=<62e706bcca5a0de0bfec6baa576d88a5@server> postfix/qmgr[20642]: AF718422E5: from=<server>, size=517, nrcpt=1 (queue active) postfix/pipe[20678]: AF718422E5: to=<[email protected]>, relay=dovecot, delay=0.62, delays=0.47/0.03/0/0.13, dsn=5.1.1, status=bounced (user unknown) postfix/bounce[20680]: AF718422E5: sender non-delivery notification: 29598422E7 postfix/qmgr[20642]: AF718422E5: removed

  • How to prevent remote hosts from delivering mail to Postfix with spoofed From header?

    - by Hongli Lai
I have a host, let's call it foo.com, on which I'm running Postfix on Debian. Postfix is currently configured to do these things: All mail with @foo.com as recipient is handled by this Postfix server. It forwards all such mail to my Gmail account. The firewall thus allows port 25. All mail with another domain as recipient is rejected. SPF records have been set up for the foo.com domain, saying that foo.com is the sole origin of all mail from @foo.com. Applications running on foo.com can connect to localhost:25 to deliver mail, with [email protected] as sender. However I recently noticed that some spammers are able to send spam to me while passing the SPF checks. Upon further inspection, it looks like they connect to my Postfix server and then say HELO bar.com MAIL FROM:<[email protected]> <---- this! RCPT TO:<[email protected]> DATA From: "Buy Viagra" <[email protected]> <--- and this! ... How do I prevent this? I only want applications running on localhost to be able to say MAIL FROM:<[email protected]>. Here's my current config (main.cf): https://gist.github.com/1283647

  • Cloudfront - How to invalidate objects in a distribution that was transformed from secured to public?

    - by Gil
The setting I have an Amazon Cloudfront distribution that was originally set as secured. Objects in this distribution required a URL signing. For example, a valid URL used to be of the following format: https://d1stsppuecoabc.cloudfront.net/images/TheImage.jpg?Expires=1413119282&Signature=NLLRTVVmzyTEzhm-ugpRymi~nM2v97vxoZV5K9sCd4d7~PhgWINoTUVBElkWehIWqLMIAq0S2HWU9ak5XIwNN9B57mwWlsuOleB~XBN1A-5kzwLr7pSM5UzGn4zn6GRiH-qb2zEoE2Fz9MnD9Zc5nMoh2XXwawMvWG7EYInK1m~X9LXfDvNaOO5iY7xY4HyIS-Q~xYHWUnt0TgcHJ8cE9xrSiwP1qX3B8lEUtMkvVbyLw__&Key-Pair-Id=APKAI7F5R77FFNFWGABC The distribution points to an S3 bucket that also used to be secured (it only allowed access through the cloudfront). What happened At some point, the URL singing expired and would return a 403. Since we no longer need to keep the same security level, I recently changed the setting of the cloudfront distribution and of the S3 bucket it is pointing to, both to be public. I then tried to invalidate objects in this distribution. Invalidation did not throw any errors, however the invalidation did not seem to succeed. Requests to the same cloudfront URL (with or without the query string) still return 403. The response header looks like: HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden Server: CloudFront Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2014 15:16:08 GMT Content-Type: text/xml Content-Length: 110 Connection: keep-alive X-Cache: Error from cloudfront Via: 1.1 3abf650c7bf73e47515000bddf3f04a0.cloudfront.net (CloudFront) X-Amz-Cf-Id: j1CszSXz0DO-IxFvHWyqkDSdO462LwkfLY0muRDrULU7zT_W4HuZ2B== Things I tried I tried to set another cloudfront distribution that points to the same S3 as origin server. Requests to the same object in the new distribution were successful. The question Did anyone encounter the same situation where a cloudfront URL that returns 403 cannot be invalidated? Is there any reason why wouldn't the object get invalidated? Thanks for your help!

  • postfix smtp_fallback_relay for deferred messages to a single domain

    - by EdwardTeach
I use Postfix to send messages to a mail server outside my organization which frequently rejects/defers my mail. My Postfix server sees that these messages are deferred and tries again, eventually getting through. Final delivery can take up to an hour, which makes my users unhappy. In comparison, mail from my Postfix server to other hosts works normally. I have now found out about a second, unofficial MX for this domain that does not reject/defer mail. This second MX does not appear when doing a DNS MX query for the domain. Therefore, for the problem domain I would like to use this second MX as a fallback. That is: whenever mail is deferred by the primary MX, try again on the unofficial second MX. I see that there is already a postfix configuration "smtp_fallback_relay". However the documentation seems to indicate that I can not restrict usage of the fallback to a single domain. The documentation also doesn't mention deferred message handling. So is there a way to configure a single-domain, deferred-retry fallback host in Postfix? For reference, I am including my postconf output (the host names and ip addresses are fake): alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases, hash:/etc/postfix/legacy_mailman, ldap:/etc/postfix/ldap-aliases.cf append_dot_mydomain = no biff = no config_directory = /etc/postfix default_destination_concurrency_limit = 2 inet_interfaces = all inet_protocols = all local_destination_concurrency_limit = 2 local_recipient_maps = $alias_maps mailbox_size_limit = 0 mydestination = myhost.my.network, localhost.my.network, localhost, my.network myhostname = myhost.my.network mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8, [::ffff:127.0.0.0]/104, [::1]/128, 10.10.10.0/24 myorigin = my.network readme_directory = no recipient_delimiter = + relay_domains = $mydestination relayhost = smtp_fallback_relay = the.problem.host smtp_header_checks = smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name virtual_alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/virtual

  • Centos/Postfix able to send mail but not receive it

    - by Dan Hastings
I have set up postfix and used the mail command to test and an email was successfully sent and delivered. • will heavy network traffic affect other connections on HP ProCurve V1810-48G?

    - by nn4l
I have a HP ProCurve V1810-48G switch with a few servers connected to it (everything in one rack). The switch is practically in its default configuration. During copying of a few hundred GByte of data from server_a to server_b (using tar cf - data | ssh server_b 'cd myhome; tar xf -'), essentially saturating the network capacity between those two servers, I noticed network related error messages on the console of server_c - as if server_c is no longer able to send/receive traffic to server_d. After canceling the copy command everything was normal again. I would understand this if the network connection would use a shared resource, for example if server_a and server_c are in one datacenter, server_b and server_d are in another datacenter and both datacenters are connected with a 100 MBit line. But all of the mentioned servers are connected to the same switch and are located in the same IP network. I always thought that a connection between two servers on one switch will not affect any other server connected to the switch. It is also possible that the network related error messages are caused by something else - but I can't risk a network problem for any other system on this switch. Please advise.

  • sendmail on Snow Leopard

    - by Jay
    I'm trying to get sendmail working on my MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.4), so that I can send mail with PHP's mail() function. If you know how to do this without sendmail, I'd be interested in that also. The plan is to send mail through smtp.gmail.com using my gmail account, unless you have a better idea. I did this and that didn't work. In /etc/postfix/smtp_sasl_passwords I tried both:     smtp.yourisp.com username:password and     smtp.yourisp.com [email protected]:password The problem seems to be that google doesn't like me. I don't think my ISP is blocking it because Mail.app can send email through smtp.gmail.com just fine. $email is my gmail address. $ printf "Subject: TestMail" | sendmail -f $email $email $ tail /var/log/mail.log Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/master[8741]: daemon started -- version 2.5.5, configuration /etc/postfix Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/qmgr[8743]: CAACBFA905: from=<$email>, size=377, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/pickup[8742]: C2A68FA93A: uid=501 from=<$email> Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/cleanup[8744]: C2A68FA93A: message-id=<20101021233818.$mydomain> Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/qmgr[8743]: C2A68FA93A: from=<$email>, size=377, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8746]: initializing the client-side TLS engine Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8748]: initializing the client-side TLS engine Oct 21 19:38:49 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8746]: connect to smtp.gmail.com[74.125.157.109]:25: Operation timed out Oct 21 19:38:49 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8748]: connect to smtp.gmail.com[74.125.157.109]:25: Operation timed out Oct 21 19:38:49 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8746]: CAACBFA905: to=<$email>, relay=none, delay=1334, delays=1304/0.04/30/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to smtp.gmail.com[74.125.157.109]:25: Operation timed out) Oct 21 19:38:49 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8748]: C2A68FA93A: to=<$email>, relay=none, delay=30, delays=0.08/0.05/30/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to smtp.gmail.com[74.125.157.109]:25: Operation timed out) $ I also tried setting myhostname, mydomain, and myorigin in /etc/postfix/main.cf to $ nslookup myip (as displayed by http://www.whatismyip.com/) And still no luck.   • mysqld refusing connections from localhost

    - by Dennis Rardin
My mail server (Ubuntu 10.04) uses mysql for virtual domains, virtual users. For some reason, mysqld has started refusing connections from localhost. I see these in the mail server log: Oct 6 00:31:14 apollo postfix/trivial-rewrite[16888]: fatal: proxy:mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual_domains.cf(0,lock|fold_fix): table lookup problem and: Oct 7 13:39:15 apollo postfix/proxymap[25839]: warning: connect to mysql server 127.0.0.1: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 0 I also get the following in auth.log: Oct 6 22:33:31 apollo mysqld[31775]: refused connect from 127.0.0.1 Telnet to the local port: root@apollo:/var/log/mysql# telnet localhost 3306 Trying ::1... Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. Connection closed by foreign host. root@apollo:/var/log/mysql# I am not sure why this started happening, but there was a disk failure in a RAID 1 pair a bit earlier that day. So it's possible I have a damaged config file or something. But mail was working for at least an hour after the drive event, so who knows for sure? phpmyadmin works fine, and the databases themselves look like they're intact. I think/believe that selinux and iptables are disabled and not running. So ... why is mysqld refusing connections from localhost? What should I check? What processes might cause this if a .conf file or possibly a binary was damaged? Which other log files might contain clues? I've enabled "general logging" in /etc/mysql/my.cnf, but I get no interesting or informative entries there. Thanks, m00tpoint

  • Postfix message ID originating process?

    - by Anders Braüner Nielsen
Last night my postfix mail server(Debian Squeeze with dovecot, roundcube, opendkim and spamassassin enabled) started sending out spam from a single domain of mine like these: $cat mail.log|grep D6930B76EA9 Jul 31 23:50:09 myserver postfix/pickup[28675]: D6930B76EA9: uid=65534 from=<[email protected]> Jul 31 23:50:09 myserver postfix/cleanup[27889]: D6930B76EA9: message-id=<[email protected]> Jul 31 23:50:09 myserver postfix/qmgr[7018]: D6930B76EA9: from=<[email protected]>, size=957, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Jul 31 23:50:09 myserver postfix/error[7819]: D6930B76EA9: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=0.03, delays=0.02/0/0/0, dsn=4.4.2, status=deferred (delivery temporarily suspended: lost connection with mta5.am0.yahoodns.net[66.196.118.33] while sending RCPT TO) The domain in question did not have any accounts enabled but only a catchall alias set through postfixadmin - most emails were send from a specific address I use frequently but some were also sent from bogus addresses. None of the other virtual domains handled by postfix were affected. How can I find out what process was feeding postfix/sendmail or more info on where they originated? As far as I can tell php mail() wasn't used and I've run several open relay tests. I did a little tinkering(removed winbind from the server and ipv6 addresses from main.cf) after the attack and it seems to have subsided but I still have no idea how my server was suddenly sending out spam. Maybe I fixed it - maybe I didn't. Can anyone help figuring out how I was compromised? Anywhere else I should look? I've run Linux Malware Detect on recently changed files but nothing found.

  • Postfix "mail-to-script" pipe only delivers empty messages

i have a problem here. I want that a incoming email is piped to a php script in the system through postfix. My System is running with ispconfig 3, postfix and dovecot (< virtual mailbox users are saved in mysql). I looked already into this one: How to configure postfix to pipe all incoming email to a script? ... the script is executed, but no "message" is delivered to the script. But as you can see, i dont want to use external services. -rw-r--r-- 1 web2 client0 1959 Jun 21 16:19 mailtext_1340288377.txt So, whats wrong here? • Heartbeat/DRBD failover didn't work as expected. How do I make the failover more robust?

    - by Quinn Murphy
I had a scenario where a DRBD-heartbeat set up had a failed node but did not failover. What happened was the primary node had locked up, but didn't go down directly (it was inaccessible via ssh or with the nfs mount, but it could be pinged). The desired behavior would have been to detect this and failover to the secondary node, but it appears that since the primary didn't go full down (there is a dedicated network connection from server to server), heartbeat's detection mechanism didn't pick up on that and therefore didn't failover. Has anyone seen this? Is there something that I need to configure to have more robust cluster failover? DRBD seems to otherwise work fine (had to resync when I rebooted the old primary), but without good failover, it's use is limited. heartbeat 3.0.4 drbd84 RHEL 6.1 We are not using Pacemaker nfs03 is the primary server in this setup, and nfs01 is the secondary. ha.cf # Hearbeat Logging logfacility daemon udpport 694 ucast eth0 192.168.10.47 ucast eth0 192.168.10.42 # Cluster members node nfs01.openair.com node nfs03.openair.com # Hearbeat communication timing. # Sets the triggers and pulse time for swapping over. keepalive 1 warntime 10 deadtime 30 initdead 120 #fail back automatically auto_failback on and here is the haresources file: nfs03.openair.com IPaddr::192.168.10.50/255.255.255.0/eth0 drbddisk::data Filesystem::/dev/drbd0::/data::ext4 nfs nfslock

  • What are the replacement options for an IDE hard disk for a DOS based system?

    - by dummzeuch
I have got a few "embedded" systems running MSDOS 6.2 which boot from and store data to IDE hard disks. Since these drives are nearing their end of life, the question arises how we can replace them. The requirements are: DOS must be able to install and boot from these drives. They must be able to sustain heavy (mostly) write access. If possible, they should be able to survive moderate vibrations (not too bad since the current hard disks have survived several years of that) I considered the following options so far: other ide hard drives: Unfortunately modern IDE drives are too large so DOS cannot boot from them even if I create small partitions. Older IDE drives are just that: old, so they are probably not the most reliable ones any more. SSDs: There are a few SSDs with IDE interface available. I have not yet tried them. Does anybody have any experience with them? They look like the ideal replacement provided that DOS can boot from them and that writing speed does not deteriorate too much (the old hard disks are no race cars either). Compact Flash: There are adapters for using CF with IDE controllers and they work fine. DOS can boot from them and they have no problems at all with vibrations. What I am not sure about is their durability. DOS uses FAT so some very few sectors are written every time the medium is being written to. IDE to SATA converters: I have no idea whether they are any good. Has anybody tried them? It might be an option to use one of these to connect an SATA SSD to the system. Are there any alternatives that I have missed? (We are working on replacing these systems, but it will still take a few years.)

  • CloudFront with Custom Origin and ELB

    - by kmfk
We are using CloudFront for our static assets but also wanted to allow for Gzip. We set up a new distribution with a custom origin pointing back to our application servers which are behind a elastic load balancer. We manually keep the files in sync across the cluster and update them when we publish. However, with this set up, we get nothing but Miss and RefreshHits from CloudFront, which so far has defeated the purpose. Is there any additional settings in order to use an ELB as your custom origin? In the docs, it references this as a viable solution. It appears when we point the distribution to a single server in our production cluster, cloudfront properly caches our assets. Is it possible that the sticky sessions cookie and the subsequent header that gets added by it could be an issue? Cache-Control: no-cache="set-cookie" //Added by load balancer Any ideas? FYI - currently, we have our custom origin pointing to a single EC2 instance, so caching is working correctly - in case you try to curl the file below. • How do I prevent a tar pipe from causing swapping?

    - by Jeff Shattock
I have a rather large filesystem that I need to transfer from one Linux server to another. I figured the best way to do this was via a tar/netcat pipe arrangment, something like tar c . | pv | nc blah blah blah And it works great, the network stays fairly saturated, life is good. Until the source machine starts swapping. The files are on a raid on the source system, so the read speed is much faster than the write speed on the other end. Since the dest machine hasnt picked up the data yet, the source machine needs to stick it somewhere, so into RAM it goes, until there is no more free RAM. It then starts swapping, which is horribly painful since that machine has its OS installed on a somewhat slow CF card. Both machines have 4GB of physical ram, 64 bit Ubuntu 9.04 server. GigE link between them. How do I prevent this swapping? Can I put a "speed-limit" on the tar or netcat process so that the transfer speed doesn't overwhelm the write throughput on the destination end? The man pages didn't list anything, but there might be something I'm overlooking.

  • How can I configure myhostname to work with Postfix?

    - by John Kelly Ferguson
I'm going through the process of setting up a Discourse forum on my server (Ubuntu 12.04 x64) and am getting stuck at the point where I have to configure mailers. I'm following Discourse's instructions and am stuck trying to configure postfix for Mandrill. It is says to check my fully-qualified domain name by typing hostname -f When I enter in hostname -f, I get localhost. As far as I know, entering in hostname -f should return mydomainname.com. When I just enter in hostname, I get mydomainname which is correct because that is what I set my hostname to in /etc/hostname. Looking at some of my other settings, my /etc/hosts file reads: 127.0.0.1 localhost mydomainname # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts ::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback fe00::0 ip6-localnet ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix ff02::1 ip6-allnodes ff02::2 ip6-allrouters And in my /etc/postfix/main.cf file, I have myhostname set like this: myhostname = mydomainname.mydomainname.com (Should this be myhostname = mail.mydomainname.com instead?) And mydestination is the following: mydestination = mydomainname.com, localhost, localhost.localdomain, localhost I'm not that familiar with configuring hostnames. I've been reading Postfix's instructions, but haven't been able to figure it out yet. Any help on how to get this to work would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Coldfusion:-Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost

    - by Fransis
I installed Coldfusion 8 trial version on my system (XP Professional sp3). I created an Folder in the “C:/Coldfusion8/wwwroot” called “buildProject” containing an Index.cfm and some other .cfm files. But I am unable to access the Neither my project files or CFIDE/Administrator I tried the following URLS http://localhost:8500/wwwroot/buildProject/ http://localhost:8500/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm http:// 127.0.0.1:8500/wwwroot/buildProject/ http:// 127.0.0.1:8500/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm http://localhost /wwwroot/buildProject/index.cfm http://localhost /CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm http://localhost /wwwroot/buildProject/ http://localhost /CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:8500. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. • I cleared the browsing “History” from both IE and FF. • I have restarted the CF server in the Control Panel Administrative Tools Services • Even restarted the IIS Getting the same error. Further I was trying to access IE/FF via CFbuilder But still I am getting the error “The connection was refused when attempting to contact [URL].” My inetpub is in the D rive where as CF8 is in C drive Also when i check IIS-5 Control Panel Admin tools Services I do not find the Localhost under web sites or FTP sites. Kindly help me with a fix.

  • Nginx Ubuntu Postfix Config - Can't connect to incoming IMAP server 'server not responding' but can send mail via outgoing using same details?

I'm pretty to new server admin and especially nginx but seem to be getting ok fine apart from accessing my mail via my iPhone? I recently moves servers and the host has set the primary domain on the service as new-domain.com so this may be the issue? Like I said, it works to connect to outgoing server, but incoming gets the not responding error? Any idea would be much appreciated!

  • Can sendmail be configured to discard routed email that has been rejected by the next hop?

    - by Guy Bolton King
Background: We have a handful of hosts (running sendmail) acting as the MXs for a few domains each. Each domain is handled via the sendmail/cf /etc/mail/virtusertable, with a set of known recipients and a catch-all reject rule. Mail to postmaster on each host is aliased to root, and root is aliased to root+<host>@ourdomain.com. The MX for ourdomain.com is Google Apps, and [email protected] is a simple group that forwards to the admins. Google Apps will reject some emails at the SMTP stage, usually because of illegal attachments (instead of accepting them and filing them as spam). Problem: Given a particular spam email sent to a domain in a virtusertable entry: If the recipient address rejects the mail, then sendmail will try and send a DSN to the sender. If that sender also rejects the mail (because it's a falsified sender, and the MX for the sender rejects the mail as spam), then sendmail sends a DSN to the postmaster. The routing detailed above takes place, and...Google Apps rejects the mail as well. sendmail now gives up with a "savemail panic", and leaves the mail in the queue forever. Our mail queue fills up with garbage Is there any way I can get sendmail to discard messages that have been rejected by the next virtusertable hop (i.e. after step 1 in the Problem description)? Or does anyone have any other solutions to this?

  • Postfix: How to configure Postfix with virtual Dovecot mailboxes?

    - by user75247
I have configured a Postfix mail server for two domains: domain1.com and domain2.com. In my configuration domain1 has both virtual users with Maildirs and aliases to forward mail to local users (eg. root, webmaster) and some small mailing lists. It also has some virtual mappings to non-local domains. Domain2 on the other hand has only virtual alias mappings, mainly to corresponding 'users' at domain1 (eg. mails to [email protected] should be forwarded to [email protected]). My problem is that currently Postfix accepts mail even for those users that don't exist in the system. Mail to existing users and /etc/aliases works fine. Postfix documentation states that the same domain should never be specified in both mydestination and virtual_mailbox_maps, but If I specify mydestination as blank then postfix validates recipients against virtual_mailbox_maps but rejects mail for local aliases of domain1.com. /etc/postfix/main.cf: myhostname = domain1.com mydomain = domain1.com mydestinations = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost virtual_mailbox_domains = domain1.com virtual_mailbox_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/vmailbox virtual_mailbox_base = /home/vmail/domains virtual_alias_domains = domain2.com virtual_alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/virtual alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases virtual_transport = dovecot /etc/postfix/virtual: domain1.com right-hand-content-does-not-matter firstname.lastname user1 [more aliases..] domain2.com right-hand-content-does-not-matter @domain2.com @domain1.com /etc/postfix/vmailbox: [email protected] user1/Maildir [email protected] user2/Maildir /etc/aliases: root: :include:/etc/postfix/aliases/root webmaster: :include:/etc/postfix/aliases/webmaster [etc..] Is this approach correct or is there some other way to configure Postfix with Dovecot (virtual) Maildirs and Postfix aliases?

  • Setting up logging for a remote backup script

    - by Brian Dainis
So I wrote up a short script that I am planning to run via a cron job daily to package up my site files and send them to a remote location. I also plan to incorporate DB dumps, but I have not gotten that far yet. My issue today however is that Im am uncertain how to log the output of each command for errors, warnings, or other pertinent information the command may output. I would also like to install sometype of fail safe so if something goes horribly wrong the script will stop dead in its tracks and notify me via email or something. Ok the email thing is not as critical, but would be nice. Does anybody have any ideas for that? Here is what I have so far. By the way, both servers are CentOS 6.2 running standard LAMP. #!/bin/sh ################################# ### Set Vars ################################# THEDATE=`date +%m%d%y%H%M` ################################# ### Create Archives ################################# tar -cf /root/backups/files/server_BAK_${THEDATE}.tar -C / var/www/vhosts gzip /root/backups/files/server_BAK_${THEDATE}.tar ################################# ### Send Data to Remote Server ################################# scp /root/backups/files/server_BAK_${THEDATE}.tar.gz user@host:/home/bak1/ftp/backups/ ################################# ### Remove Data from this Server ################################# rm -rf /root/backups/files/server_BAK_${THEDATE}.tar.gz

  • if I define `my_domain`, postfix does not expand mail aliases

    - by Norky
I have postfix v2.6.6 running on CentOS 6.3, hostname priest.ocsl.local (private, internal domain) with a number of aliases supportpeople: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] requests: "|/opt/rt4/bin/rt-mailgate --queue 'general' --action correspond --url http://localhost/", supportpeople help: "|/opt/rt4/bin/rt-mailgate --queue 'help' --action correspond --url http://localhost/", supportpeople If I leave postfix with its default configuration, then the aliases are resolved correctly/as I expect, so that incoming mail to, say, [email protected] will be piped through the rt-mailgate mailgate command and also be delivered (via the mail server for ocsl.co.uk (a publicly resolvable domain)) to [email protected], user2, etc. The problem comes when I define mydomain = ocsl.co.uk in /etc/postfix/main.cf (with the intention that outgoing mail come from, for example, [email protected]). When I do this, postfix continues to run the piped command correctly, however it no longer expands the nested aliases as I expect: instead of trying to deliver to [email protected], user2 etc, it tries to send to [email protected], which does not exist on the upstream mail server and generates NDRs. postconf -n for the non-working configuration follows (the working configuration differs only by the "mydomain" line. alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases command_directory = /usr/sbin config_directory = /etc/postfix daemon_directory = /usr/libexec/postfix data_directory = /var/lib/postfix debug_peer_level = 2 html_directory = no inet_interfaces = all inet_protocols = all mail_owner = postfix mailq_path = /usr/bin/mailq.postfix manpage_directory = /usr/share/man mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost mydomain = ocsl.co.uk newaliases_path = /usr/bin/newaliases.postfix queue_directory = /var/spool/postfix readme_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.6.6/README_FILES sample_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.6.6/samples sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix setgid_group = postdrop unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 550 We did have things working as we expected/wanted previously on an older system running Sendmail.
