• Get group key from bridge table

  I'm developing an ETL process, and need a bridge table for a one-to-many relationship between a fact table and a dimension table (MySQL database). There is a limited number of combinations (some thousands), so I want to re-use group keys from the bridge table to to limit the size. Any group of dimensions belonging to a fact row will consist of a number of dimension keys (1 to around 15), assigned to a unique group key, as below: group_key | dimension_key ----------------------- 1 | 1 1 | 3 1 | 4 2 | 1 2 | 2 2 | 3 3 | 1 3 | 4 How do I go about retrieving the unique group key for the dimensions 1,3,4 (ie. 1).

• Removing whitespace between HTML elements when using line breaks

  I have a page with a row of about 10 imgs. For readability of the HTML, I want to put a linebreak in between each img tag, but doing so renders whitespace between the images, which I do not want. Is there anything I can do other than break in the middle of the tags rather than between them? Edit: Here is a screenshot of what I have so far. I would like the book spine images to display in random combinations, using PHP. This is why I need separate img tags.

• How can I override an HTML "rules" attribute using CSS?

  The DITA Open Toolkit automatically inflicts some inline table attributes when one publishes to HTML, including frame="border" and rules="all". I need to override this "rules" attribute using CSS styles for cells, and while I can get the desired result in IE and Chrome, Firefox puts solid black gridlines in the table and refuses to budge on the matter. Obviously I can't edit the HTML, company policy is to not edit the XSLT, so how can I remove these gridlines using CSS alone? I've tried various cunning combinations of border-xxxxxx styles and given them !important declarations to no effect. Thanks, Andrew

• Record locking problem between linux and Windows

  I need to run a bunch of old DOS FoxPro / Clipper applications in linux under DOSEMU. The programs access their "databases" located on a network server (could be a Windows or Linux server) Actually, the programs ran fine, but I cannot manage to make the record locking work as supposed: I can run a program in two terminals (or the server and any terminal for instance) and lock the same record in both. Now, I'm using Tiny Core Linux as terminal and Windows XP as server, accesing the shared files via CIFS and the latest DOSEMU (1.4.0), but I tried with various combinations of server (Ubuntu 7 to 9, Damn Small Linux, XP) <- protocol (CIFS, samba, various versions of smbclient) <- client (same as server) with no luck I tried to configure the server part to work without oplocks in samba (after reading the entire O'Reilly Samba book locking chapter in http://oreilly.com/catalog/samba/chapter/book/ch05_05.html ) and in XP (\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\UseOpportunisticLocking = 0) but the problem persist.   I'm using session SaveHandler to persist session data in the database. How can I unserialize those objects and remove object I need? I suspect, that I don't have to write my custom parser, that Zend_Session already has a method to do this. I have tried different combinations of unserialize but it still returns false. I'm using autoloader from ZF 1.10.2 and Doctrine 1.2

• Perform manual test, automate after - or never?

  In my current company, we have one tester. Having spoken to this tester, she says that in testing, before implementing any automation systems, the scripts (steps to take) are manually written and performed (performed at least once). Is this the way things work in testing? To make me laugh, this has been done in this case, yet no automation. It makes me laugh to see the lead tester perform loads of different combinations of usernames and passwords for a login form (which she is not overly keen on having automated) when I could easily automate that (but politics in the company won't allow that). This doesn't seem like the environment where a junior tester (not me, I'm a SDET) cannot learn anything. Thanks

  This is a follow-up of this question on here http://iphonedevelopment.blogspot.com/2010/02/drawing-hud-display-in-opengl-es.html It tackles on the HUD (heads up display) which is based on this tutorial http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2681102/opengl-es-displaying-hud-display-has-no-color-on-top-of-textured-3d-objects I wanted to set the "Text" in color BLACK, but it is more complicated than what I thought. Setting it to some other color other than black "glColor4f(0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0);" is just fine. I assume that the culprit must be in the Blending function "glBlendFunc (GL_ONE, GL_ONE);" I experimented a lot of combinations with no luck. Has anyone experimented on this one on top of textured 3D in the backgrounds working?

• Why does my program occasionally segfault when out of memory rather than throwing std::bad_alloc?

  I have a program that implements several heuristic search algorithms and several domains, designed to experimentally evaluate the various algorithms. The program is written in C++, built using the GNU toolchain, and run on a 64-bit Ubuntu system. When I run my experiments, I use bash's ulimit command to limit the amount of virtual memory the process can use, so that my test system does not start swapping. Certain algorithm/test instance combinations hit the memory limit I have defined. Most of the time, the program throws an std::bad_alloc exception, which is printed by the default handler, at which point the program terminates. Occasionally, rather than this happening, the program simply segfaults. Why does my program occasionally segfault when out of memory, rather than reporting an unhandled std::bad_alloc and terminating?

  Hi all, I am able to work with NSTokenField, it is easy to use.. but I want your suggestions on how can I customize it just like it is in "To/ CC" fields in mac mail ie. when no. of tokens in a token field increases height of "To" field gets increased to a certain limit then a vertical scroller starts appearing! By default when we use a token field neither its height gets increased nor a vertical scroller appears! I tried different combinations in IB but I could not obtain mac mail like functionality. • What is the maximum number of controls that a VBA form can hold?

  I'm currently building an Excel 2003 app that requires a horribly complex form and am worried about limitations on the number of controls. It currently has 154 controls (counted using Me.Controls.Count - this should be accurate, right?) but is probably only about a third complete. The workflow really fits a single form, but I guess I can split it up if I really have to. I see evidence in a Google search that VB6 (this usually includes VBA) has a hard limit of 254 controls in a form. However, I created a dummy form with well over 1200 controls which still loaded and appeared to work just fine. I did get some 'out of memory' errors when trying to add specific combinations of controls though, say 800 buttons and 150 labels, leading me to think that any limit might be affected by the memory requirements of each type of control. Does anyone have any information that might help ensure that I or, more importantly, other users with differing environments don't run into any memory issues with such a large form?

  I'm curious whether many of us who do design or take design decisions have ever heard of this problem. I'm aware there are dangerous color combinations, like green + red. This is probably one of the most popular cases of color blindness. If you have green text on a red background and vice versa some people won't see anything. I've also seen in practice that green text on a blue background was not seen by one guy. What other color compositions should be avoided, and how often these cases are to be expected? Let us make some ranging by encounter probability who has the numbers. Addition: I've just remembered one very bad example that causes problems to just about everyone - blue text on a black background. It's unreadable for all intents and purposes. Never could understand what could possibly compel a web master to use this color combination...

• Issuing native system commands in Scala

  I want to issue a native system command from a Scala program, and perhaps trap the output. ("ls" comes to mind. There may be other ways to get directory information without issuing the command, but that's beside the point of my question.) It would correspond to os.system(...) in Python. I've looked in "Programming in Scala". I've looked in O'Reilly's "Programming Scala". I've Googled several combinations of terms. No luck yet. Can someone out there give me an example, or point me at a resource where I can find an example?

• ASP.NET MVC 2 - Checkboxes

  I'm using string[] roles = Roles.GetAllRoles() to get a string[] of all the ASP.NET membership roles for my application. I'm sending the roles to my view in ViewData and using a foreach to create a set of Checkboxes using <%: Html.CheckBox("RoleCheckBox") %>. There are 3 roles and my view does render 3 checkboxes. When I do a View/Source, I see the checkboxes and their corresponding hidden tags. They all have the same, so there are 6 tags with the name "RoleCheckBox" - 3 that render the checkboxes and 3 that are hidden. The problem comes when I post the form back to my controller and bind the results - something like public ActionResult Create(Person person, string[] RoleCheckBox). I get FOUR strings and I have no idea where the fourth string ("false") is coming from. I could do some testing by trying various combinations of checks to see which one (hopefully) doesn't change and ignore it but that's just ugly. Does anyone know why this would be happening?   I am learning about the Convolution Matrix, and I understand how they work, but I don't understand how to know before hand what the output of a Matrix will look like. For example lets say I want to add a blur to an image, I could guess 10,000+ different combinations of numbers before I get the correct one. I do know though that this formula will give me a blur effect, but I have no idea why. float[] sharpen = new float[] { 1/9f, 1/9f, 1/9f, 1/9f, 1/9f, 1/9f, 1/9f, 1/9f, 1/9f }; Can anyone either explain to me how this works or point me to some article, that explains this? I would like to know before hand what a possible output of the matrix will be without guessing. Basically I would like to know why do we put that number in the filed, and why not some other number?

• Syntax error in SharePoint calculated column formula

  Is it possible to debug SharePoint calculated column formulas? I am trying with a really simple SharePoint calculated formula =IF([YTD]<[Budget], "OK", "Not OK"). This being a Danish installations of SharePoint I believe the fomula should look like this: =HVIS([YTD]<=[Budget]; "OK"; "Not OK") But this just leaves with the same syntax error or not supported error. I have tried all combinations of IF/HVIS, with/without the square brackets, comma/semicolon, single quotes/double quotes, but nothing works. The formula =YTD<=Budget works.

• Which collation should I use to store these country names in MySQL?

  I am trying to store a list of countries in a mySQL database. I am having problems storing (non English) names like these: São Tomé and Príncipe República de El Salvador They are stored with strange characters in the db, (and therefore output strangely in my HTML pages). I have tried using different combinations of collations for the database and the MySQL connection collation: The "obvious" setting was to use utf8_unicode_ci for both the databse and the connection information. To my utter surprise, that did not solve the problem. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

• Having trouble with post-commit hook

  I am following this tutorial that is like the hello world for post-commit I am using unbuntu 10.04. I installed svnnotify and ran $ which svnnotify which output: /usr/bin/svnnotify so I changed the path in the turorial from /usr/local/bin/svnnotify to /usr/bin/svnnotify I also tried changing the line: #!/bin/sh to #!/bin/bash since bash is the login shell in ubuntu 10.04. I tried to run it the way the tutorial originally had it, with my changes, and combinations of the two. Everytime the commit is successful but I get Warning: post-commit hook failed (exit code 1) with no output. The original way had output not found I am very new to linux and shell scripting and have exhausted everything I can think of. What am I doing wrong?

• I need to know how to create a custom webform template in ASP.NET that allows me to pick a master pa

  Using Visual Studio 2008, I need to create a custom web form that when picked acts like the web content form, by providing a dialog that lets you pick a master page. I have looked through the webform.zip template and thought I had a clue, but trying different combinations has baffled me as it either doesn't appear or doesn't work. Also when you set the project type to Web and sub project type to CSharp it doesn't appear, so I don't know if this part of the cause, because I would of hoped that the SupportsMasterPage element would of caused this dialog to appear, if it is a web item, but no luck. Frown Any ideas? p.s. I have used my googling resources to the maximum so unsure what to do.

  Hi, Just wondering what the best way to build a NSPredicate is if some filters are optional? This is basically for a filter, so if some options aren't selected I don't to filter by them eg. If I have option1 and option2 set for the filter. NSPredicate* predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"option1 = %@ AND option2 = %@] .... otherwise if just option1 NSPredicate* predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"option1 = %@] .... The key being there are 10 different options to filter, so I don't want to have to code for the 10x10 possible combinations. Thanks

• Can't get ellipsis to work on Android

  Hi, I have a TextView. I want it to ellipsize if longer than its available width. This does not work unless the input string has no spaces... can anyone provide an example of this working? I've tried different combinations of: singleLine="true" maxLines="1" scrollHorizontally="false" none of these have any effect. Again, if I supply a string that has no spaces in it, then the ellipsis appears correctly. What am I missing? I've tried this on 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, all same problem. Thanks

• How to get X,Y,Z rotations of vertices on a sphere at the origin?

  Hey, I have a sphere in my game world and i would like to place a plane at each vertex on this sphere for debugging purposes. The planes should be orientated so that they lie flat against the sphere (perpendicular to the normals). The sphere is located at the origin, so all the vertices are relative to that. If my thinking is correct, i should be able to do this using the positions of the vertices and some simple trigonometry. I have tried a few combinations but have had no joy yet. I would greatly appreciate some help on this. Thanks. • What do you do when you feel you need a variadic list comprehension?

  I would like to make a method where I could give it a list of lengths and it would return all combinations of cartesian coordinates up to those lengths. Easier to explain with an example: cart [2,5] Prelude> [ [0,0],[0,1],[0,2],[0,3],[0,4],[1,0],[1,1],[1,2],[1,3],[1,4] ] cart [2,2,2] Prelude> [ [0,0,0],[0,0,1],[0,1,0],[0,1,1],[1,0,0],[1,0,1],[1,1,0],[1,1,1] ] A simple list comprehension won't work because I don't know how long the lists are going to be. While I love Haskell's simplicity for many problems, this is one that I could write procedurally (in C or something) in 5 minutes whereas Haskell gives me an aneurysm! A solution to this specific problem would help me out a lot; I'd also love to hear about your thought processes when tackling stuff like this.

• In Node.JS, how do I return an entire object from a separate .js file?

  Thanks for looking. I am new to Node.js and trying to figure out how to request an object from a separate file (rather than just requesting a function) but everything I try--exports,module-exports,etc--is failing. So, for example, if I have foo.js: var methods = { Foobar:{ getFoo: function(){return "foo!!";}, getBar: function(){return "bar!!";} } }; And now I want to call a function within an object of foo.js from index.js: var m = require('./Methods'); function fooMain(){ return m.Foobar.getFoo(); }; How do I do this? I have tried all sorts of combinations of exports and module-exports but they seem to only work if I call a discrete function that is not part of an object. Thanks!
