  • How to show server errors in Rails 2.3.5 with JSON and jQuery

    - by Fortuity
    I've got in-place editing on a page in my app (using Rails 2.3.5 and jQuery). I want to know how to display an error on the page when the update fails. I'm using ajax (an XMLHttpRequest) to save an update to a Comment object. The controller has an update method like this: def update @comment = Comment.find(params[:id]) respond_to do |format| # if @comment.update_attributes!(params[:comment]) if false #deliberately forcing a fail here to see what happens format.json { render :nothing => true } else format.json { render :json => @comment.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end In Firebug, I can see the server returns a "422" (an appropriate validation error status code). But it's a response to an XMLHttpRequest so there is no redirect to an error page. I think I actually want to do this: format.json { render :json => @comment.errors} or maybe this: format.json {render :json => { :status => :error, :message => "Could not be saved" }.to_json, :status => 400 } and trigger some Javascript function that iterates through (and displays) any errors. I'm using a rails plugin http://github.com/janv/rest_in_place/ to implement the in-place editing. It doesn't appear to have any callback function to handle a failure. What are my options? Can I write some Javascript to respond to a failure condition without hacking the plugin? Do I have to hack the rest_in_place plugin to handle a failure condition? Is there a better plugin (for Rails or jQuery) that handles in-place editing, including failure conditions? UPDATE This post from Peter Bui (http://paydrotalks.com/posts/45-standard-json-response-for-rails-and-jquery) was helpful in showing how to handle an error message from the server using XMLHttpRequest.status. I looked at his implementation of a blog using ajax (http://github.com/paydro/talks). I'm surprised at the complexity required to handle a simple error condition. Usually Rails has all the goodness baked in but it seems server errors with JSON are out of scope. Can that be? I also looked at grimen's validatious-on-rails (http://github.com/grimen/validatious-on-rails/) which accommodates models validations when ajax XMLHttpRequest is used. It's not clear to me how I'd use it to handle the general case of a "save" failing when validations succeed. P.S. Please vote me up... so I can use more than one HTML link when I ask my question :-)

  • What does this C++ compilation error mean?

    - by devlife
    Does anyone have any clue as to what this might mean? (ClCompile target) -> C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Platforms\Win32\Microsoft.Cpp.Win32.Targets(147,5): error MSB6006: "CL.exe" exited with code -1073741515. It builds fine on my dev box but fails due to this error on our CI box. It's running on .NET 3.5. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

  • Weird Mono compilation error

    - by nubela
    Hi, I am using IKVM to get SVNKit on a Mono project I'm working with, I have a class that implements an interface from SVNKit, and I can't compile: On windows and on .NET, everything compiles fine, just getting this on Mono. /home/nubela/Workspace/subsync/subsync/Core/Subversion/PropGetHandler.cs(22,22): Error CS0535: Subsync.Core.Subversion.PropGetHandler' does not implement interface member org.tmatesoft.svn.core.wc.ISVNPropertyHandler.__()' (CS0535) (subsync) I googled _() method, and it seems to be the initializer method for the base class in the Java library compiled from IKVM. I have no clue how to proceed now, any idea guys? :)

  • Compilation problems with vector<auto_ptr<> >

    Consider the following code: #include <iostream> #include <memory> #include <vector> using namespace std; struct A { int a; A(int a_):a(a_) {} }; int main() { vector<auto_ptr<A> > as; for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { auto_ptr<A> a(new A(i)); as.push_back(a); } for (vector<auto_ptr<A> >::iterator it = as.begin(); it != as.end(); ++it) cout << (*it)->a << endl; } When trying to compile it, I get the following obscure compiler error from g++: g++ -O0 -g3 -Wall -c -fmessage-length=0 -MMD -MP -MF"src/proba.d" -MT"src/proba.d" -o"src/proba.o" "../src/proba.cpp" /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/ext/new_allocator.h: In member function ‘void __gnu_cxx::new_allocator<_Tp>::construct(_Tp*, const _Tp&) [with _Tp = std::auto_ptr<A>]’: /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/bits/stl_vector.h:606: instantiated from ‘void std::vector<_Tp, _Alloc>::push_back(const _Tp&) [with _Tp = std::auto_ptr<A>, _Alloc = std::allocator<std::auto_ptr<A> >]’ ../src/proba.cpp:19: instantiated from here /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/ext/new_allocator.h:104: error: passing ‘const std::auto_ptr<A>’ as ‘this’ argument of ‘std::auto_ptr<_Tp>::operator std::auto_ptr_ref<_Tp1>() [with _Tp1 = A, _Tp = A]’ discards qualifiers /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/bits/vector.tcc: In member function ‘void std::vector<_Tp, _Alloc>::_M_insert_aux(__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<typename std::_Vector_base<_Tp, _Alloc>::_Tp_alloc_type::pointer, std::vector<_Tp, _Alloc> >, const _Tp&) [with _Tp = std::auto_ptr<A>, _Alloc = std::allocator<std::auto_ptr<A> >]’: /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/bits/stl_vector.h:610: instantiated from ‘void std::vector<_Tp, _Alloc>::push_back(const _Tp&) [with _Tp = std::auto_ptr<A>, _Alloc = std::allocator<std::auto_ptr<A> >]’ ../src/proba.cpp:19: instantiated from here /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/bits/vector.tcc:256: error: passing ‘const std::auto_ptr<A>’ as ‘this’ argument of ‘std::auto_ptr<_Tp>::operator std::auto_ptr_ref<_Tp1>() [with _Tp1 = A, _Tp = A]’ discards qualifiers /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/bits/stl_construct.h: In function ‘void std::_Construct(_T1*, const _T2&) [with _T1 = std::auto_ptr<A>, _T2 = std::auto_ptr<A>]’: /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/bits/stl_uninitialized.h:86: instantiated from ‘_ForwardIterator std::__uninitialized_copy_aux(_InputIterator, _InputIterator, _ForwardIterator, __false_type) [with _InputIterator = __gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<std::auto_ptr<A>*, std::vector<std::auto_ptr<A>, std::allocator<std::auto_ptr<A> > > >, _ForwardIterator = __gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<std::auto_ptr<A>*, std::vector<std::auto_ptr<A>, std::allocator<std::auto_ptr<A> > > >]’ /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/bits/stl_uninitialized.h:113: instantiated from ‘_ForwardIterator std::uninitialized_copy(_InputIterator, _InputIterator, _ForwardIterator) [with _InputIterator = __gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<std::auto_ptr<A>*, std::vector<std::auto_ptr<A>, std::allocator<std::auto_ptr<A> > > >, _ForwardIterator = __gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<std::auto_ptr<A>*, std::vector<std::auto_ptr<A>, std::allocator<std::auto_ptr<A> > > >]’ /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/bits/stl_uninitialized.h:254: instantiated from ‘_ForwardIterator std::__uninitialized_copy_a(_InputIterator, _InputIterator, _ForwardIterator, std::allocator<_Tp>) [with _InputIterator = __gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<std::auto_ptr<A>*, std::vector<std::auto_ptr<A>, std::allocator<std::auto_ptr<A> > > >, _ForwardIterator = __gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<std::auto_ptr<A>*, std::vector<std::auto_ptr<A>, std::allocator<std::auto_ptr<A> > > >, _Tp = std::auto_ptr<A>]’ /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/bits/vector.tcc:279: instantiated from ‘void std::vector<_Tp, _Alloc>::_M_insert_aux(__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<typename std::_Vector_base<_Tp, _Alloc>::_Tp_alloc_type::pointer, std::vector<_Tp, _Alloc> >, const _Tp&) [with _Tp = std::auto_ptr<A>, _Alloc = std::allocator<std::auto_ptr<A> >]’ /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/bits/stl_vector.h:610: instantiated from ‘void std::vector<_Tp, _Alloc>::push_back(const _Tp&) [with _Tp = std::auto_ptr<A>, _Alloc = std::allocator<std::auto_ptr<A> >]’ ../src/proba.cpp:19: instantiated from here /usr/include/c++/4.1.2/bits/stl_construct.h:81: error: passing ‘const std::auto_ptr<A>’ as ‘this’ argument of ‘std::auto_ptr<_Tp>::operator std::auto_ptr_ref<_Tp1>() [with _Tp1 = A, _Tp = A]’ discards qualifiers make: *** [src/proba.o] Error 1 It seems to me that there is some kind of problem with consts here.   • Haskell simple compilation bug

    I'm trying to run this code: let coins = [50, 25, 10, 5, 2,1] let candidate = 11 calculate :: [Int] calculate = [ calculate (x+candidate) | x <- coins, x > candidate] I've read some tutorials, and it worked out ok. I'm trying to solve some small problems to give-me a feel of the language. But I'm stuck at this. test.hs:3:0: parse error (possibly incorrect indentation) Can anyone tell me why? I've started with haskell today so please go easy on the explanations. I've tried to run it like: runghc test.hs ghc test.hs but with: ghci < test.hs it gives this one: <interactive>:1:10: parse error on input `=' Thanks

  • CSharpCodeProvider: Why is a result of compilation out of context when debugging

    - by epitka
    I have following code snippet that i use to compile class at the run time. //now compile the runner var codeProvider = new CSharpCodeProvider( new Dictionary<string, string>() { { "CompilerVersion", "v3.5" } }); string[] references = new string[] { "System.dll", "System.Core.dll", "System.Core.dll" }; CompilerParameters parameters = new CompilerParameters(); parameters.ReferencedAssemblies.AddRange(references); parameters.OutputAssembly = "CGRunner"; parameters.GenerateInMemory = true; parameters.TreatWarningsAsErrors = true; CompilerResults result = codeProvider.CompileAssemblyFromSource(parameters, template); Whenever I step through the code to debug the unit test, and I try to see what is the value of "result" I get an error that name "result" does not exist in current context. Why?

  • Ignore SSL errors in Zend_Http_Client

    - by webdestroya
    In PHP curl there are two functions used to ignore all SSL errors (invalid cert, self signed, expired, so on): curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST, false); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, false); I am switching over to use Zend_Http_Client, but I can't seem to find a way to force it to ignore errors. (I don't have a way to test it just yet, I wanted to see if anybody has done this before) So, does anybody know the equivalent function/functions to do this in Zend_Http_Client?

  • Compilation issues using scalaz's MA methods on Set but not List

    - by oxbow_lakes
    The following compiles just fine using scala Beta1 and scalaz snapshot 5.0: val p1: Int => Boolean = (i : Int) => i > 4 val s: List[Int] = List(1, 2, 3) val b1 = s ? p1 And yet this does not: val s: Set[Int] = Set(1, 2, 3) val b1 = s ? p1 I get the following error: Found: Int = Boolean Required: Boolean = Boolean The signature of the ? method is: def ?(p: A => Boolean)(implicit r: FoldRight[M]): Boolean = any(p) And there should be an implicit SetFoldRight in scope. It is exactly the same for the methods: ?, ? and ?: - what is going on?

  • Partial compilation of openwrt project

    - by yosig81
    I would like to get an idea or reference to compile only subset on the openwrt project. i am aware of the menuconfig utility but this is not enough for my goal. i would like to compile only the tool-chain (binutils + gcc + glibc) for a specific target (ar71xx) and also the kernel. now, after looking in the makefiles etc, i have noticed that most of the work in actually patching the toolchain and the kernel and then compile it. is there any option to stop build process after the patching so i can have only the source code patched and i can write my own make file to compile it?

  • Compilation Error: "The modifier 'public' is not valid for this item" while creating public method o

    - by Lalit
    I am getting this error while creating public method on a class for explicitly implementing the interface. I have the workaround: by removing the explicit implementation of PrintName Method, But surprised why i am getting this error. Can anyone explain the error. Code for Library: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace Test.Lib1 { public class Customer : i1 { public string i1.PrintName() //Error Here... { return this.GetType().Name + " called from interface i1"; } } public interface i1 { string PrintName(); } interface i2 { string PrintName(); } } Code for Console Test Application: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using Test.Lib1; namespace ca1.Test { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { Customer customer = new Customer(); Console.WriteLine(customer.PrintName()); //i1 i1o = new Customer(); //Console.WriteLine(i1o.printname()); //i2 i2o = new Customer(); //Console.WriteLine(i2o.printname()); } } }

  • SVN Tree Conflict Errors

    - by John
    I seem to see such errors quite often in our SVN 1.6 repo. We got these quite a lot while we used to just work on /trunk so I don't think it's due to merge/branching confusion. It seems that a cleup and marking the conflict resolved always works, but it's a little concerning to see errors in your version control system when you're just adding/updating/deleting files. What causes it?

  • Get Doxygen to show XCode compile errors if documentation is missing

    - by Rob
    I have been successful with this in the past but now I can't seem to find the setting that tells XCode or Doxygen (or both) to display compile errors if documentation is missing. I have looked at the Apple documentation that tells how to create docsets and that works fine but XCode does not throw compiling errors on missing comments in the source code. Anyone know how to get this turned on? Thanks, Rob

  • QML 5.3 iOS compilation of pure QML app

    - by Nathaniel Johnson
    I have an application written in QML. Initially, I used the standard C++ bootstrap for the app. int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { QApplication app(argc, argv); // A bunch of components and data models written in C++ QQmlApplicationEngine engine; engine.load(QUrl(QStringLiteral("qrc:///main.qml"))); return app.exec(); } The bulk of the app is in QML and the more I work with QML, the happier I am with it and the more I feel comfortable converting the C++ pieces to QML. So, it comes to one risk that I wanted to ask about. If I convert the app to a pure QML application like the kind generated by the Qt Quick UI application wizard with no C++ and designed to be run with qmlscene will I be able to compile it for iOS when the time to port it comes or will I end up just converting it back to the C++ loader form? TL;DR Can pure QML (no C++) apps be compiled and run on iOS devices?

  • Resolve naming conflict in included XSDs for JAXB compilation

    - by Jason Faust
    I am currently trying to compile with JAXB (IBM build 2.1.3) a pair of schema files into the same package. Each will compile on it's own, but when trying to compile them together i get a element naming conflict due to includes. My question is; is there a way to specify with an external binding a resolution to the naming collision. Example files follow. In the example the offending element is called "Common", which is defined in both incA and incB: incA.xsd <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <schema xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" targetNamespace="http://www.example.org/" xmlns:tns="http://www.example.org/" elementFormDefault="qualified"> <complexType name="TypeA"> <sequence> <element name="ElementA" type="string"></element> </sequence> </complexType> <!-- Conflicting element --> <element name="Common" type="tns:TypeA"></element> </schema> incB.xsd <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <schema xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" targetNamespace="http://www.example.org/" xmlns:tns="http://www.example.org/" elementFormDefault="qualified"> <complexType name="TypeB"> <sequence> <element name="ElementB" type="int"></element> </sequence> </complexType> <!-- Conflicting element --> <element name="Common" type="tns:TypeB"></element> </schema> A.xsd <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <schema targetNamespace="http://www.example.org/" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:tns="http://www.example.org/"> <include schemaLocation="incA.xsd"></include> <complexType name="A"> <sequence> <element ref="tns:Common"></element> </sequence> </complexType> </schema> B.xsd <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <schema targetNamespace="http://www.example.org/" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:tns="http://www.example.org/"> <include schemaLocation="incB.xsd"></include> <complexType name="B"> <sequence> <element ref="tns:Common"></element> </sequence> </complexType> </schema> Compiler error when both are compiled from one evocation of xjb: [ERROR] 'Common' is already defined line 9 of file:/C:/temp/incB.xsd [ERROR] (related to above error) the first definition appears here line 9 of file:/C:/temp/incA.xsd (For reference, this is a generalization to resolve an issue with compiling the OAGIS8 SP3 package)

  • compilation error: request member in something not a structure of union

    - by Fantastic Fourier
    Hi everybody, I'm having the above error request member rv in something not a structure of union. I've googled it and several answers told me it's when working with a pointer but tries to access it as a struct, where I should be using -> instead of . int foo(void * arg, struct message * msg) { struct fd_info * info = (struct something *) arg; int * socks[MAX_CONNECTION]; socks = &(info->_socks); // where int * _socks[MAX_CONNECTION] in struct info // do other things rv = sendto(socks[i], &msg, sizeof(&msg), NULL, &(csys->client_address), sizeof(csys->client_address)); ... } The problem is all of the arguments i have are pointers. i'm confused as to what is wrong. thanks to any comments/thoughts.

  • Mocking a concrete class : templates and avoiding conditional compilation

    - by AshirusNW
    I'm trying to testing a concrete object with this sort of structure. class Database { public: Database(Server server) : server_(server) {} int Query(const char* expression) { server_.Connect(); return server_.ExecuteQuery(); } private: Server server_; }; i.e. it has no virtual functions, let alone a well-defined interface. I want to a fake database which calls mock services for testing. Even worse, I want the same code to be either built against the real version or the fake so that the same testing code can both: Test the real Database implementation - for integration tests Test the fake implementation, which calls mock services To solve this, I'm using a templated fake, like this: #ifndef INTEGRATION_TESTS class FakeDatabase { public: FakeDatabase() : realDb_(mockServer_) {} int Query(const char* expression) { MOCK_EXPECT_CALL(mockServer_, Query, 3); return realDb_.Query(); } private: // in non-INTEGRATION_TESTS builds, Server is a mock Server with // extra testing methods that allows mocking Server mockServer_; Database realDb_; }; #endif template <class T> class TestDatabaseContainer { public: int Query(const char* expression) { int result = database_.Query(expression); std::cout << "LOG: " << result << endl; return result; } private: T database_; }; Edit: Note the fake Database must call the real Database (but with a mock Server). Now to switch between them I'm planning the following test framework: class DatabaseTests { public: #ifdef INTEGRATION_TESTS typedef TestDatabaseContainer<Database> TestDatabase ; #else typedef TestDatabaseContainer<FakeDatabase> TestDatabase ; #endif TestDatabase& GetDb() { return _testDatabase; } private: TestDatabase _testDatabase; }; class QueryTestCase : public DatabaseTests { public: void TestStep1() { ASSERT(GetDb().Query(static_cast<const char *>("")) == 3); return; } }; I'm not a big fan of that compile-time switching between the real and the fake. So, my question is: Whether there's a better way of switching between Database and FakeDatabase? For instance, is it possible to do it at runtime in a clean fashion? I like to avoid #ifdefs. Also, if anyone has a better way of making a fake class that mimics a concrete class, I'd appreciate it. I don't want to have templated code all over the actual test code (QueryTestCase class). Feel free to critique the code style itself, too. You can see a compiled version of this code on codepad.

  • printing long compilation lines with MS NMAKE

    - by Elazar Leibovich
    I have a legacy MS NMAKE Makefile I need to fix a few bugs in. There are some very long command lines I wish to debug that are being executed using the NMAKE trick of "inline files": dep: cmd @<<tmpfilename cmd_args.. << When changing the line to dep: echo cmd @<<tmpfilename cmd_args.. << NMAKE complains that the line is too long. Is there any other trick I can apply in order to view the command line NMAKE is actually executing?
