• Changing memory allocator to Jemalloc Centos 6

  After reading this blog post about the impact of memory allocators like jemalloc on highly threaded applications, I wanted to test things on a larger scale on some of our cluster of servers. We run sphinx, and apache using threads, and on 24 core machines. Installing jemalloc was simple enough. We are running Centos 6, so yum install jemalloc jemalloc-devel did the trick. My question is, how do we change everything on the system over to using jemalloc instead of the default malloc built into Centos. Research pointed me at this as a potential option: LD_PRELOAD=$LD_PRELOAD:/usr/lib64/libjemalloc.so.1 Would this be sufficient to get everything using jemalloc?

• ^C not working in zsh on Mac OSX

  Ctrl-C stopped working for me at the terminal when using zsh (on mac osx). I didn't notice the exact moment that it happend so I can't be sure what caused it. I didd't update zsh in a while though. and didn't touch .zshrc (I have it at a repo http://github.com/astrails/dotzsh) If I run bash, ^C works in it. If I run any command, like cat, ^C will work to stop it too. but inside zsh it just doesn't do anything. bindkey | grep \\^C gives "^B"-"^C" self-insert zsh 4.3.10 (i386-apple-darwin10.4.3), installed though ports (zsh-devel @4.3.10_0+doc+examples+mp_completion+pcre) mac os 10.6.6

• Is it easy to update ubuntu beta to ubuntu final release?

  At this moment I am preparing a virtual server to host a web application which needs php5.3 The virtual server base image is always Hardy (8.04 LTS). There is no php5.3 until the upcoming release in a few days: Lucid (9.04 LTS). I am seeing to options: - waiting until the final version is released and then start preparing this server - Now upgrading to the beta (do-release-upgrade --devel-release) and when the final release has come upgrading to that For time constraints I would prefer the second option. I only can't find whether it will be easy to upgrade from a beta to the 'clean' final release. Is this possible in an easy way. Will it have any drawback for security or will there be any traces left of it being ever a beta release? Note: the server will not go into production before the LTS is really installed.

  Hello, I try to install Mesa 7.8 for CentOS 5. During installation of Mesa I required to install librdm, and during librdm (v. 2.4.19) installing I got error about missing pthread-stubs: checking for PTHREADSTUBS... configure: error: Package requirements (pthread-stubs) were not met: When I try: yum provides *pthread-stubs* I get nothing In other place I found that libxcb-devel is what I need, but yum not find this too. During searching in Google, I found rpm's for Fedora only. Any one know whether there is some packege which provides pthread-stubs for CentOS, or other, less expensive way to install Mesa? First, i compile with : ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/sphinx --with-pgsql --without-mysql --with-pgsql-libs=/var/lib/pgsql/9.2/data/ --with-pgsql-includes=/usr/pgsql-9.2/include/ then it seems work, but after i run make errors appeared /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lpq I have installed postgresql92-devel and libs also libpqxxx and worked with that error all day long but i am not solve that yet.   I've done phpinfo() to see if it was installed but I see no mention of the gd libraries anywhere. In the past I have defaulted to using Cent OS 5, but I find this outdated difficult to upgrade the software to the versions we require. For example, we need PHP 5.3, but CentOS 5 has 5.2.   Hi, i need to build mapnik on freebsd 6.3, but port marked as 'broken', so i forced to build it from source. With boost 1.41 (which is in ports) mapnik doesn't build. somewhere in internet, i found that mapnik successfully builded with boost 1.42. • APC module causing strange error

  When I run php -v I get: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib64/php/modules/apc.so' - /usr/lib64/php/modules/apc.so: undefined symbol: php_pcre_exec in Unknown on line 0 This isn't my first rodeo. I've setup APC multiple times. This is a MediaTemple Dedicated Virtual 4.0 with Plesk 11. Plesk 11 is the only thing essentially different from the other servers I've set this up on. I've verified that pcre-devel is installed. I've compiled APC from source as well as used pecl to install it. No difference. I also tried downgrading to APC 3.0.19, with no love.

  I build Apache httpd into an RPM using these sites: http://erikwebb.net/blog/compile-and-install-apache-24-red-hat-enterprise-linux-rhel-6-or-centos-6 http://ramblin-dude.blogspot.com/2013/04/compiling-rpm-for-httpd-on-rhel-57.html I was successful at building apr* and httpd*. However, when I try to install httpd using rpm -Uvh httpd-devel-2.2.25-1.x86_64.rpm httpd-2.2.25-1.x86_64.rpm mod_ssl-2.2.25-1.x86_64.rpm I get the following error: package mod_ssl-2.2.3-82.el5_9.x86_64 (which is newer than mod_ssl-2.2.25-1.x86_64) is already installed. I have httpd 2.2.3-82 installed. Do I need to remove it first? Seems counterintuitive.

• Can I compile mutt under cygwin?

  I've been trying to compile mutt under cygwin for a few days. The included version is outdated and does not include things I need like header caching. Anyways, I always get the message: "configure: error: no curses library found" I have all the curses + devel stuff installed + termpcap, which I heard might be related. • Trouble getting OS fingerprinting to work in iptables

  Everyone, As I understand it, OSF has been merged with the Kernel since 2.6.before-my-kernel-version. Yet when I do something like this: iptables -I INPUT -j ACCEPT -p tcp -m osf --genre Linux --log 0 --ttl 2 and I get an error like: iptables: No chain/target/match by that name iptables -L Shows no rules because I did an iptables -F at one point. ALSO, the following command: cat /proc/net/ip_tables_matches Does not show "osf" on the list. A google doesn't seem to help. I've also installed iptables-devel in hopes I'd be able to load the osf module. Sadly I haven't been able to get that to work. Centos 6.4 minimal Any guidance?

• WPF Binding Error reported when Binding appears to work fine

  I am trying to create a custom TabItem template/style in my WPF 4.0 application (using VS 2010 Pro RTM), but inspite of everything seeming to work correctly, I am noticing a binding error in the trace window. The resource dictionary XAML I use to style the TabItems of a TabControl is given in full here. (Just create a simple TabControl with several items and apply the given ResourceDictionary to test it out.) Specifically, the error is occurring due to the following line (discovered through trial and error testing, since Visual Studio isn't actually reporting it at design tim <TranslateTransform X="{Binding ActualWidth, ElementName=leftSideBorderPath}"/> The full error given in the trace (Ouput window) is the following: System.Windows.Data Error: 2 : Cannot find governing FrameworkElement or FrameworkContentElement for target element. BindingExpression:Path=ActualWidth; DataItem=null; target element is 'TranslateTransform' (HashCode=35345840); target property is 'X' (type 'Double') The error occurs on load and is repeated 5 times then (note that I have 3 tab items in my example). It also occurs consistently and repeatedly whenever for the Window is resized, for example - filling the Output window. Perhaps every time the TabItem layout is updated? And again, though it is not reported, the error very much seems to be due to the fact that I am binding to any element at all, not specifically leftSideBorderPath or the the ActualWidth propertry. For example, changing this line to the following fixes things. <TranslateTransform X="25"/> Unfortunately, hard-coding the value isn't really an option. This issue seems very strange to me in that the binding does appear to be giving the correct results. (Inspecting the X value of the TranslateTransform at runtime clearly shows the correct bound value, and the ClipGeometry when viewed is exactly what it hsould be.) Neither Visual Studio nor WPF seems to be giving me any more information on the cause of the error perhaps (setting PresentationTraceSources.TraceLevel to High doesn't help), yet the fact that things are working despite the error being reported inclines me to think that this is some fringe-case WPF bug. As a side note, the Visual Studio WPF designer and XAML editor are giving me a problem with the following line: <PathGeometry Figures="{Binding Source={StaticResource TabSideFillFigures}}"/> Although WPF (at runtime) is perfectly happy binding Figures to the TabSideFillFigures string, with the Binding enforcing the use of the TypeConverter, the XAML editor and WPF designer are complaining. All the XAML code for the ControlTemplate is underlined and I get the following errors in the Error List: Error 9 '{DependencyProperty.UnsetValue}' is not a valid value for the 'System.Windows.Controls.Control.Template' property on a Setter. C:\Users\Alex\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\Ircsil\devel\Ircsil\MainWindow.xaml 1 1 Ircsil Error 10 Object reference not set to an instance of an object. C:\Users\Alex\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\Ircsil\devel\Ircsil\Skins\Default\MainSkin.xaml 58 17 Ircsil Again, to repeat, everything works perfectly well at runtime, which is what makes this particularly odd... Could someone perhaps shed some light on these issues, in particular the first (which seems to be a potential WPF bug), and the latter (which seems to be a Visual Studio bug). Any sort of feedback or suggestions would be much appreciated!

A problem occured so I cleared all the cache and tried to update once again this time in terminal, and it spat out: dpkg: error: parsing file '/var/lib/dpkg/status' near line 6449 missing package name After opening up 'status' with gedit and going to line 6449, I found that nothing was on that line but the following was before and after it. This package contains the Mono System.Configuration library for CLI 4.0.   My Drupal 6 site has been running smoothly for years but recently has experienced intermittent periods of extreme slowness (10-60 sec page loads). Several hours of slowness followed by hours of normal (4-6 sec) page loads. The page always loads with no error, just sometimes takes forever. My setup: Windows Server 2003 Apache/2.2.15 (Win32) Jrun/4.0 PHP 5 MySql 5.1 Drupal 6 Cold fusion 9 Vmware virtual environment DMZ behind a corporate firewall Traffic: 1-3 hits/sec avg Troubleshooting No applicable errors in apache error log No errors in drupal event log Drupal devel module shows 242 queries in 366.23 milliseconds,page execution time 2069.62 ms. (So it looks like queries and php scripts are not the problem) NO unusually high CPU, memory, or disk IO Cold fusion apps, and other static pages outside of drupal also load slow webpagetest.org test shows very high time-to-first-byte The problem seems to be with Apache responding to requests, but previously I've only seen this behavior under 100% cpu load. Judging solely by resource monitoring, it looks as though very little is going on. Here is the kicker - roughly half of the site's access comes from our LAN, but if I disable the firewall rule and block access from outside of our network, internal (LAN) access (1000+ devices) is speedy. But as soon as outside access is restored the site is crippled. Apache config? Crawlers/bots? Attackers? I'm at the end of my rope, where should I be looking to determine where the problem lies?

• Building gstreamer_ndk_bundle problems

  I'm trying to build gstreamer_ndk_bundle under Ubuntu 12.4 and I'm failing miserably! I have installed all "glib-dev" packages (packages that in their name have glib and dev), and also I have tried to compile/install glib 2.33.1 (latest) from source, but I always get this error: /home/marko/gstreamer_ndk_bundle/jni/../glib/gobject/gmarshal.c:149: undefined reference to `g_value_get_schar' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [/home/marko/gstreamer_ndk_bundle/obj/local/armeabi/libgobject-2.0.so] Error 1 This means that glib source doesn't have the definition for g_value_get_schar, and since that function was introduced in glib somewhere after version 2.30.0, my guess is that I am not using proper glib! I tried to force gstremaer_ndk_bundle to build with sources from the folder /home/marko/glib-2.33.1/ which I compiled/installed by exporting these env vars: GLIB_GENMARSHAL=/home/marko/glib-2.33.1/gobject/glib-genmarshal GLIB_COMPILE_SCHEMAS=/home/marko/glib-2.33.1/gio/glib-compile-schemas Also I changed gmarshal.h so it includes gmarshal.h from the installed glib folder: #ifndef _marko_glib_loaded #define _marko_glib_loaded #include "/home/marko/glib-2.33.1/gobject/gmarshal.h" #endif But failed in both cases. How can I know what glib is used while compiling gstreamer and install the proper one? How can I force gstreamer_ndk_bundle to use glib sources from the folder I have un-tared/configured/installed and not the system ones, or whatever ones it uses? I read somewhere that I need gstreamer-devel package if I keep getting this error while compiling. Where can I find that package?! Can't Google it out... Has anyone EVER built gstreamer_ndk_bundle and lived to tell the tale?

• Screen becomes black after pressing dash or alt-tab

  I did an upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10. Unity 3d becomes a black screen after pressing the dash-button or after pressing alt-tab to switch between open windows. I can see the panel on the top(lock,sound,..) and the panel on the left (launcher) but the rest is black. It looks like a maximised black window. The open Windows are active but I cant see them. I logout by pressing logout in the right top corner and pressing enter (because logout is default focused on the dialogue screen) and leave unity3d. Unity3d worked with 11.04 very good. If I press the dash button the dash looks like an 16-Bit or 8-Bit window and buttons for maximise, minimise and close are displayed and looks inverted. I have rebooted my notebook just now and log in to Unity 3D and tested some features of Unity and everything works well. The black thing is only a layer. I can use my desktop but cant see anything because of the layer, but everything works.
