  • How to build an easy Rails authentication with OpenID and OAuth1.0a-2.0?

    Hi, I'am looking for an easy authentication for my users mostly via facebook, but keeping OpenID and other OAuth alternatives as well. For the case if something will go very bad, I will ask my users to optionally provide their email address, which should be obtained via OpenID or OAuth if possible. The same thing is about their name. I am a newbie in Rails, so I started with Railscasts.com #160 (authlogic) and #170 (authlogic and OpenID), however, I had some problems trying to sign in with my Google Account. As I understand, it will take some effort to adjust #170 for my objectives. On the other hand, there is gem authlogic_rpx which will possibly provide me the needed functionality (see http://rails-authlogic-rpx-sample.heroku.com/signin). What would you do? Is it reasonable to put one more step (RPX) in the authentication logic?

  • Is there an easy way of obtaining the total page response time in ASP.Net?

    Hello, commonly on say PHP or other web frameworks getting the total response time is easy, just start the timer at the top of the file and stop it at the end. In ASP.Net there is the whole Page Lifecycle bit though so I'm not sure how to do this. I would like for this response time recording to take place in a master page and the response time show up in the footer of pages. What would be the best way of doing this? Is there something built in to ASP.Net for it? Is it even possible to include the OnRender time?

    I have a client requesting that his users can use their webcams to talk to each other. From what I've understood the main thing to use for this is Flash. However as I have not written flash I would like to have something really easy to implement. Of course preferrably free (or trial). The idea of this is that everything but the chat alone is in .net. So the users will not use flash until they are actaully going to talk to each other. So there is no use for rooms here. I've been looking into silverlight some as well. But it seems like silverlight does not offer streaming between users..? I know this question has been asked many times here. But I could not find a suitable answer which is why I post a new question.

  • Where can I find a free, easy to implement spellcheck component for .NET?

    This may be a tall order, but I'd like to find a spellchecker component that is easy to implement (I only need to spellcheck one TextBox). I've looked around and cannot seem to find anything that doesn't cost a fortune, or isn't overly complicated to implement. I did find a wrapper for NHunspell, but couldn't get it to actually display the spellcheck box for whatever reason. ComponentOne's spellcheck control is absolutely excellent, but of course, costs an absolute fortune since you can't buy just that component, you have to buy the whole suite. All the other ones I've found seem to be the same way. I liked the ComponentOne version the best because all you had to do way reference it, initialize, and when you called it you simply told it which control to check. It was lovely. Suggestions?

  • It's easy to set a breakpoint when debugging VBA, but how about a "startpoint" or a "skippoint"?

    I'm debugging a subroutine in my VBA code. I want to ignore the first half and just run the second half. So, is there a way to set a 'startpoint'? Also, is there an easy way to ignore a specific line of code other than commenting? If not, I'll just continue commenting out all the code I don't want run. The problem with this, of course, is that I have to remember to uncomment the critical code before I send it on to Production.

    hopefully the question doesn't sound stupid, but there are lots of examples out there of achieving certain things in javascript/dom using jQuery. Using jQuery is not always an option (or even a want) which can make understanding the examples of javascript solutions written in jQuery hard. Is there an easy way to convert jQuery code to regular javascript? I guess without having to access or understand the jQuery source code... edit (future readers): pretend there is a logical reason why jQuery isn't available! edit (almost 3 years since I asked this): there is no logical reason why jQuery isn't available :P

    I have a div with overflow:auto and a scroll bar, and I'd like to be able to drag the contents to scroll. I don't need to be able to select text. Is there an easy way to do this? A jQuery plugin would be good, otherwise plain old JavaScript would be fine. It seems I haven't made myself clear enough. There's a div with a fixed height that I want to scroll. Instead of picking up the scroll bar, I want to click and drag inside the text in the opposite direction. Like on an iPhone.   • C# app that uses Excel Interop, easy switch between 2003 2007?

    I have an app written that just does really basic I/O on a spreadsheet. Read in a bunch of cells, do some sorting, and dump the output back into another spreadsheet. Works great on my machine. I have Office 2003 installed. When it runs on someone elses machine with 2007, it bombs, presumably due to the different versions of the Interop assemblies. I was hoping someone knew a way to dynamically change which/where the assembly is loaded from depending on the office version (getting the office version is easy from the registry). Sifting thru the rest of the internet, i didnt see anything to indicate that was possible :( . I tried installing the 2007 PIAs, but when i try to add a reference, they dont show up and i have no idea where to browse for them (they arent in the c:\windows\assemblies\; maybe the install didnt work). Am I going to have to get a machine with 2007 installed to build on every time i need to make updates?

    Possible Duplicate: Property Name and need its value Hi, This one should be easy for most people. I'd like to access a normal variable in an object (let's say example) by using a variable value. E.g.: I have a an array with a list of variable names and I want to get the information from the object by using them. Obviously this is wrong: string[] variable_names = new string[] {"name", "surname"}; myObject.variable_names[0] = 1; myObject.variable_names[1] = 1; In other languages (not C#) I use: myObject[variable_names[0]] = 1; I know the example looks stupid but it was just a way of explaining it.   • Easy way to compute how close an auto_increment is to its maximum value?

    So yesterday we had a table that has an auto_increment PK for a smallint that reached its maximum. We had to alter the table on an emergency basis, which is definitely not how we like to roll. Is there an easy way to report on how close each auto_increment field that we use is to its maximum? The best way I can think of is to do a SHOW CREATE TABLE statement, parse out the size of the auto-incremented column, then compare that to the AUTO_INCREMENT value for the table. On the other hand, given that the schema doesn't change very often, should I store information about the columns' maximum values and get the current AUTO_INCREMENT with SHOW TABLE STATUS?

  • The best approach to customize Bootstrap Less files and keep it easy to be updated to future versions

    I'm wondering what the best way would be to customize the less files in Bootstrap and, at the mean time, keep it easy to be updated to future Bootstrap versions. It's straightforward to just modify the less files, but the problem is that when the next version of Bootstrap comes out, it might be painful to upgrade (because all the changes are already deeply mixed with the original sources.) Another approach would be similar to the open closed principle, that is, keeping the original less files unchanged, and adding my customized less files to overwrite the CSS rules I need. When Bootstrap gets updated, (hopefully) I can simply replace the less files and everything would work magically. However, regardless of the correctness of my assumption, the same CSS rules would be scattered in even more places and hard to manage. Also, the more we overwrite the CSS (not for compatibility or other purposes), the more bandwidth we waste. I know this highly depends on how the author of Bootstrap would handle the structure of the framework or even the naming of CSS rules, but I'd still like to hear everybody's opinions. Thanks.

PAGES -id (Primary Key) -user Foreign Key(USER) -page -date COMMENTS -id (Primary Key) -user Foreign Key(USER) -page Foreign Key(PAGE) -comment -date FAVOURITES_PAGES -id (Primary Key) -user Foreign Key(USER) -favourite_page Foreign Key(PAGE) -date but now one of the most important page of website is observatory, when everyone can observe activity others users. So I need select all pages, comments and favourites pages some users and display it in one list, sorted by date. For better perfomance (I think) I changed my structure to this: table USER and PROFILE without changes ACTIVITY (additional table- have common fields: user,date) -id (Primary Key) -user Foreign Key(USER) -date -page Foreign Key(PAGE) -comment Foreign Key(COMMENTS) -favourite_page Foreign Key(FAVOURITES_PAGES) PAGES -id (Primary Key) -page COMMENTS -id (Primary Key) -page Foreign Key(PAGE) -comment FAVOURITES_PAGES -id (Primary Key) -favourite_page Foreign Key(PAGE) So now it is very easy get sorted records from all tables. But I have no only foreign key to PAGES, COMMENTS and FAVOURITES_PAGES in ACTIVITY table - there is about ten Foreign Key fields and in one record only one have value, others have None: ACTIVITY id user date page comment ... 1 2 2010-02-23 None 1 2 1 2010-02-21 1 None .... It is corect solution. When I display about 40 records in one page (pagination) I must wait about one secound, but database is almost emty (a few users and about 100 records in others tables). It is depends on amount records per page - I have checked it, but why it takes too long time, becouse of relationships? The website is built in Python/Django. Any advices/opinion?

But if I change a class and recompile it, the REPL continues with the old one loaded. Is there a way to get it to reload the class, rather than having to restart the REPL?   • How to keep multiple connectionString passwords safe, separate, and easy to deploy?

    I know there are plenty of questions here already about this topic (I've read through as many as I could find), but I haven't yet been able to figure out how best to satisfy my particular criteria. Here are the goals: The ASP.NET application will run on a few different web servers, including localhost workstations for development. This means encrypting web.config using a machine key is out. The application will decide which connection string to use based on the server name (using a switch statement). For example, "localhost" and "dev.example.com" will use the DevDatabaseConnectionString, "test.example.com" will use the TestDatabaseConnectionString, and "www.example.com" will use the ProdDatabaseConnectionString, for example. Ideally, the exact same executables and web.config should be able to run on any of these environments, without needing to tailor or configure each environment separately every time that we deploy (something that seems like it would be easy to forget/mess up one day during a deployment, which is why we moved away from having just one connectionstring that has to be changed on each target). Deployment is currently accomplished via FTP. We will not have command-line access to the production web server. This means using aspnet_regiis.exe is out. (I could run on localhost, however, if this would still work.) We would prefer to not have to recompile the application whenever a password changes, so using web.config (or db.config or whatever) seems to make the most sense. A developer should not be able to decrypt the production database password. If a developer checks the source code out onto their localhost laptop (which would determine that it should be using the DevDatabaseConnectionString, remember?) and the laptop gets lost or stolen, it should not be possible to get at the other connection strings. Thus, having a single RSA private key to un-encrypt all three passwords cannot be considered. (Contrary to #3 above, it does seem like we'd need to have three separate key files if we went this route; these could be installed once per machine, and should the wrong key file get deployed to the wrong server, the worst that should happen is that the app can't decrypt anything---and not allow the wrong host to access the wrong database!) I know this is probably a subjective question (asking for a "best" way to do something), but given the criteria I've mentioned, I'm hoping that a single best answer will indeed arise. Thank you!

    Essentially I want a wrapPanel, but I would like items to snap to a grid rather than be pressed up to the left, so I can get a nice uniform looking grid, that automatically consumes available space.     i have a file which will be used across many app projects. the only difference of these files is the webserice referrence name. code like this: public void Test(){ Kevin.ServiceReference1.Service1Client client = new Kevin.ServiceReference1.Service1Client(); // do something.... } like code above, the 'Kevin.ServiceReference1' will be replace by specified app project namespace. so, according to DRY(dont repeat yourself), i shouldn't just copy the file to many projects and rename the specified part manually. is there any way i can easily replace some parts of my template file to something related to the project?

  • How does a debug build make reverse engineering easy?

    Some answer here stated that debug info would make it easier to reverse engineer the software. When I use Visual C++ and distribute an executable with debugging information but without other files (.pdb), will it contain any interesting things? I looked to the executable with a hex editor and found nothing like symbol names, for now I assume the .exe file just links to information in the .pdb files, right? Do you know whether it contains variable names? function/member names? line numbers? anything interesting? Thanks!

  • TRibbon's large button's image is not centered...any ideas? easy to demonstrate at design-time.

    Hi, I'm going through the Stanford iPhone course. I'm on the second Paparazzi assignment. I'm getting this error: * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'executeFetchRequest:error: A fetch request must have an entity.' I've copied a lot of the code from this walkthrough site. Running his source code works perfectly, and at this point my code is pretty much exactly the same as his. But it throws that error. See below for the relavent bits: // Create FetchRequest NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Person" inManagedObjectContext:context]; [request setEntity:entity]; // Set the sort descriptor NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"personName" ascending:NO]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:sortDescriptor, nil]; [request setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; [sortDescriptors release]; [sortDescriptor release]; // set up NSFetchedResultsController to hold the fetch NSFetchedResultsController *frc = [[NSFetchedResultsController alloc] initWithFetchRequest:request managedObjectContext:context sectionNameKeyPath:nil cacheName:@"personCache"]; // execute the fetch NSError *error; NSLog(@"Prints Here"); [frc performFetch:&error]; NSLog(@"Doesn't Print Here"); I'm clearly setting the entity with [request setEntity:entity]. So the error has me stumped. Is there something I'm missing? Maybe in another file? I don't know. I'm still so confused with Objective-C.... Thanks.

  • Is there a more easy way to create a WCF/OData Data Service Query Provider?

    I have a simple little data model resembling the following: InventoryContext { IEnumerable<Computer> GetComputers() IEnumerable<Printer> GetPrinters() } Computer { public string ComputerName { get; set; } public string Location { get; set; } } Printer { public string PrinterName { get; set; } public string Location { get; set; } } The results come from a non-SQL source, so this data does not come from Entity Framework connected up to a database. Now I want to expose the data through a WCF OData service. The only way I've found to do that thus far is creating my own Data Service Query Provider, per this blog tutorial: http://blogs.msdn.com/alexj/archive/2010/01/04/creating-a-data-service-provider-part-1-intro.aspx ... which is great, but seems like a pretty involved undertaking. The code for the provider would be 4 times longer than my whole data model to generate all of the resource sets and property definitions. Is there something like a generic provider in between Entity Framework and writing your own data source from zero? Maybe some way to build an object data source or something, so that the magical WCF unicorns can pick up my data and ride off into the sunset without having to explicitly code the provider?
